    People have warped expectations of crowd numbers, second league Italian sides, French sides will often have grounds that can only house 8-25k supporters. Same as championship teams that haven’t made it to the premier league. The a league needs to fix one thing, commercial revenue from viewership rights.

    I was dismayed by the reaction on social media. As someone from the NSL days, i think the A-league unintentionally made a new generation of entitled supporters. They were just given the A-league - they didn't have to work for it, build it up, it was handed to them. Now they expected to be given a 2nd division - complete and ready to go. it's not the format you want? ok. Well support it and we can grow it into something more, one step at a time. I think promo/relegation in 5 years is entirely possible but only if Aussie's make it happen.

    Agree that it's the expiry of the A-League licenses that is the earliest deadline for Pro/Rel. I think that the only way it could work otherwise would be Pro without Rel - but this would also have to wait until A League expansion was finished, otherwise the value of the licenses would plummet

    The FA were always going to struggle to get corporate backing for a second division, so no surprise of the revised format.
    The new format is better than nothing, so I will support this as a step in the right direction.

    i think the goal for a 2nd divison should be 8 teams runs the same time as the 1st division lower salary cap. gives you 4 more games a week you have to sell on paramount. 1st place automatic promotion than could do a playoff for the next spot. 2 up 2 down. will have to wait for licensing stuff. but you could probably find a loop hole saying the 1st and 2nd division make up the a league you are still apart of it.

    Could the failure of FFA to get a NST right be to the benefit of the Oceania Pro League? Would top second-tier clubs outside of the old boys club choose OPL instead?

  • @OldmanGamer9999
    @OldmanGamer9999 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes & No.
    Yes in that every fan wants a season long league with pro/rel.
    No in that its obvious the clubs who want the "Ä2" cant afford it. Hence why we have an eastern seaboard cup comp.

    Australia doesnt have the fan support for a second tier, and adding one will only dilute what we have, it will not grow the game.

    • @HahaDamn
      @HahaDamn หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I don’t think this is true, the issue is the stadiums, championship teams in the UK have grounds between 10-25k. You can’t have any atmosphere in these massive NRL grounds where you can sit 45-55k

    • @falconmclenny7284
      @falconmclenny7284 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @HahaDamn yeah that's a fair point.
      But when second tier clubs inevitably drag 500 people through the gate on a good day (south Melbourne the possible exception), even a small stadium is still gonna look empty.

    • @shottskies
      @shottskies หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spot on! We do not have the fan support for a fully fledged, fully professional second tier. It will just lead to a potential dilution of eyes on the a-league (a small one mind you, but nevertheless a distraction). That’s the last thing we need in this country 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

    so its the original idea that Eruopean Super League tried to pull that most australians fought against? i don't like the fact there are 8 founding members and 8 invited. i don't like that its a group stage but only 16 could compete. if they're going to do this there needs to be a full on tournament with the other teams in the NPL compition that would featue about 24-32 teams in a group stage. this feels like a POST NPL Finals series that should of been implimented to see the NPL teams play off in to see who is the NPL Champion. this i feel would do nothing for the 2nd division.

    • @ALeagueCouchCritics
      @ALeagueCouchCritics  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is nothing like the European Super League. The ESL was for already wealthy clubs eager to make more, while rebelling against their respective countries. The OG 8 have pumped heaps of their own money to try and start up this second division, with the support of state federations (well maybe not QLD).

      @@ALeagueCouchCriticsand therein lies the problem. All that money and a whole lot more will leave the game to build a league that is debatable whether is needed or not. Some of the things that were proposed as being required were obviously stadiums but also upgrading lighting, media facilities, medical, having players on contracts etc etc. it's a lot of money that goes towards the wrong things in the game imo. Those resources should be improving the already established NPL.

    One A-League, two conferences- one for the "franchise" or multicultural clubs (Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory etc) and one for the "ethnic" or monocultural clubs (South Melb Hellas, Marconi etc). The top group of clubs from each conference play off to decide the national champion.
