The thing about Rugby is that although there are specilaist positions for scrums etc, all players - ALL 15 players - have to be able to kick, tackle, run, pass, take a tackle, catch a kick, drive in a maul, defend a ruck and generally work their bollocks off for two 40 minute halves. Play doesn't stop when a player is tackled. If his or her team retain or regain possession it continues in pahse 2. Sometimes there can be 6. 9, 13 phases of attack or more. No rest, no hiding. Your comment about everybody having to be involved is why I LOVE this sport and appreciate the level of skill required over football. My partner is from Ireland, is a big rugby fan and she has gotten me into it as well since we met (while I have gotten her interested in basketball). Last year we went to France to go see a few games of the Rugby World Cup, and it's slowly becoming a new favorite of mine :) The rules seem a bit convoluted and hard to understand at times, but it's usually way more fun to watch a rugby game than most other sports (especially football, no matter if it's the american or global version, I dislike them both).
If you are continuing on this rugby train, you must watch video of Jonah Lomu. Kind of the Marshawn Lynch of rugby, but bigger, and faster…. Considered the greatest player of all time.
The key breaking point between nfl and rugby is the fact that in the nil players have set roles for their skills: qb, rb, etc. because thats what they are good at. In rugby every single player has to be able to do everything at 100% for a full game. There are no set stoppages in rugby unlike the nfl. It is a full 80 minutes of hitting brick walls again and again with one break at 40 mins. You will often see players bleeding or with bandages across their entire bodies because they get hit by rhinos but continue to play at full capacity. It takes a beast to play rugby.
The Haka is definitely pre game smack talking. But, the reality of it is the intimidation factor. When you understand that the Maori warriors, who were headhunters and to some extent cannibals, that performed Haka as they confronted other warrior tribes before engaging in hand to hand combat with clubs studed with sharpened sea shells and other crazy weapons, and the stomping and facial expressions were used to envoke the warrior spirits of their dead ancestors to give them spiritual power to fight the best fight, that's when you really understand the Haka and that it isn't just some dance to pump up the crowd and to taunt the other team. 'That's some serious heritage tribal death dance. Hahahahaha
He signed somewhere in Houston or dallas dont care saffa here. He left because he saw Walsh had no future and also that he cant play on international level for another country that is why he changed
Since you are a NFL fan I'd like to point out that Rees-Zammit, the guy in a couple of these races around 11"30 is now on the roster of the KC Chiefs. It's unclear what they are going to do with him. Wide receiver or running back are possibilities. I'm unsure about the new kickoff but he can be quite dangerous there too.
Hey, thanks for introducing me to an appreciation of rugby. That was fun...some of the running gave me chills! Having known some rugby players, though, I gotta say, I never thought of it as a classy version of football; on the contrary, I've always seen it as a brutal, thug version of football. But I see what you mean...and there's a lot of beauty to it.
@@hbrew9348 Thanks--I will, now. And now that you mention it, I think that's true of most sports, no? Basketball, baseball...even boxing (sorry for the"even"-- I know it's called "the sweet science," meaning, in part that is involves a lot of strategy; I just don't like watching people punch each other...esp. given how some of them end up). Maybe even golf has strategies, though I wouldn't know.
Rules basically. NO forward pass even a slight forward off your fingers considered forward and then theres a Scrum for Apposing team. If ball is out theres a Line out for team that defended. 3. A try is 5 points. And a extra 2 for converting that try which make a Converted try 7 points. And if you tackled as long as you get rid of ball backwards play continues until you knock ball forward or pass forward play stops and thers a Scrum for defending team. Panalties is for High tackles or playing the ball off your feet. And if you kick a penalty its 3 points.
At 10:00 where you said you don't know the rules, the try (touchdown) was disallowed because the ref determined that the tackle was completed, meaning the tackling player was able to hold onto the guy running with the ball. As the ball carrier, if you just get knocked down then you can get up and carry on running, but if you get tackled and held then you have to immediately give up possession of the ball. So the ball carrier in that clip was penalised for not doing that.
The try (=touchdown) at 3:20 was scored by Jona Nareki of my local team, the Highlanders, from here in the far south of New Zealand. Rugby's the national sport her. It's like AFL on steroids, and is full action - no long stoppages, just running and collisions all match long. These highlights are from two different forms of the game - rugby union and rugby sevens. The full version of the game (union) has 15 players a side and is 40 minutes per half; sevens is a cut-down - and very fast - seven-a-side version lasting around 10 minutes per half. There's also a related sport called rugby league, with considerably different rules. An average score, in all versions of the game, would be about 50 points across the two teams (e.g., 30-20).
Most of the clips here - or more than half of them - were from Rugby Sevens, which is a different game to Rugby Union. With only seven players aside there's a lot more space on the field and defences are far more stretched. Sevens favours out-and-out speedsters, because you don't really need all the other power and tactical skills required for the 15-man game. That's why guys like Conroy (Ireland), Norton (England) and Senatla (South Africa) really shine in Sevens. And of course the two American speedsters, Baker and Isles, who were both accomplished track sprinters before converting to Sevens.
Rugby is a great sport to play I only played at school boy level But there’s no greater feeling than running with the ball bullying players out of your way or bringing down a player. Now i get to watch my youngest son play Seeing how he’s quick on his feet with the ball
Only the ball carrier can be tackled by an opposing player. A completed tackle occurs when the ball carrier is held by one or more opponents and brought to the ground. This could mean the ball carrier is sitting on the ground, has one or both knees on the ground, or is on top of another player who is on the ground. A tackle is not complete if the tackler is not in contact with the ball carrier when he is classed as on the ground, and the ball carrier can then carry on instead of having to release the ball.
Called a scrum cap but a bit of a misnomer now as in the early day only forwards wore them to stop cauliflower ear like wrestlers. Only some wore them though. Now back line players wear them to help prevent concussions in collisions rather than ear protection. Example Cheslin Kolbe of South Africa.

8:56 This is why Rugby is my game. The best team wins. Sure you can get games won by moments of individual brilliance. However, those moments are always borne from the hard graft of the team. The fly half or winger juking through holes in the defence may look impressive but those defensive holes are only there because the forwards have just spent 10 phases battering down the walls. Most games though are won through attrition. Slowly and painstakingly grinding out the yards until either the defence creaks and gaps appear or your opponents are forced to give away kickable penalties just to stop you scoring a try. Unlike some other team sports, I've never seen a team win or lose that didn't deserve it.
Rugby is an international game played by many many countries, Northern & Southern hemisphere. The first global superstar of Rugby union disputed by no one was Jonah Lomu. I would love to see your opinion on one of his vids. Brief stats: 6 feet 4inches (1.93m), 119kgs (262lb), here's the kicker....100m sprint - 10.7 secs and yes he new how to exploit every aspect of his size and speed. An absolute devastating recking ball!!!!!
Louis Rees-Zammit or LRZ as he's more commonly known in the US. A former rugby union star who is signed to the Kansas City Chiefs. He's making people over there sit up and take notice. There's a lot on this channel about him.
The thing about the kick forward is that, in principle, the ball is free, in open play. Whoever gets to it first can have it. Yes, that DOES mean that you can in principle kick the ball forward to yourself, which is not the same as a fumbled pass, a 'knock-on'. There are even examples of an attacker chipping the ball over the head of a defender in front of him, and catching it on the other side.
you need to react to the greatest rugby team!! the South African national team is called the springboks. they have just won the rugby world cup back to back. the toughest and best team!!
I hope you noticed that the first few examples featured Norton the USA rugby player. Yes. USA have a national rugby team! He also scores for the USA in the final clip of the video.
React to Jonah Lomu, the greatest to ever do it. Luck my enough to have met him in Hong Kong he was the friendliest giant you could ever meet. Rest in peace big man.
Watch Rugby, & focus on the Scrumhalf. Hes the Quarterback of the sport. The guy who gets the ball after the scrum 💩s it out. I think he's also the guy who rolls it into the scrum. And often the one taking the scoring kicks. I think. Played 1 season 35 years ago in College in Wisconsin.
It’s funny when you the guy is on something (5:54) Dyantyi the guy that intercepted was actually on something and was suspended from rugby for quiet a while
It’s easier to run looking forward without the ball than with the ball looking back half the time… brother or no brother… I know it from having played it for years. Also you want to manage your speed because the game is 80min. You can’t hold if you run 110% on each run… you just need to run fast enough to score and make the others run faster to drain their energy for the rest of the game…
The first clip the guy in yellow did score but that was just show you how fast Carlin Isles is in my opinion the fastest Rugby player ever (the guy that almost chased yellow down)
There is a short video on youtube about the rules of rugby union called Rugby for beginners. It is not boring and a few reactors reacted on it.American football is an offshoot of rugby.
You should watch Antoine Dupont. He’s comfortably the best player in the world right now, and arguably the greatest of all time. He can run, pass, tackle, kick with both feet, and compete at the breakdown - all at a world class level. He’s the complete Rugby player, and just an incredible athlete.
@13_13k Yes they do, it's never been referred to as rugby - ever. Just to confuse you even more, there are two different codes of rugby, rugby union and rugby league. Both codes were created in England, rugby union in England is governed by the RFU (Rugby football union) and rugby league in England is governed by the RFL (Rugby football league) . It's not uncommon to refer to both as "footy" or football especially in Australia and New Zealand, but they also call Aussie rules "footy" and football. Then there is Gaelic football in Ireland (brought to Australia by Irish immigrants and evolved into Aussie rules) which is also referred to as football in Ireland - but never rugby. Obviously all across the British isles football is called football too. I I hope that clears up any confusion 😂
If you are into rugby this is the weekend for you. England play New Zealand, Wales play Australia and the big guns, South Africa world Champs vs Ireland world number 2 in a grudge match at the cathedral of rugby Loftus Versveld in Pretoria..... I don't know which channel or service will carry this in the USA but I'm sure you will find a stream....
It broke away from rugby union in the late 1800's by working class players in the North of England for very good reasons if you were one of the working class players. For many years it was played exactly the same as union but there was a conscious effort to change the way the game was played . Saying that league was "inspired" by union isn't really correct mate. As I was taught growing up in the rugby league heartland of Yorkshire, to look at it as essentially the same game just played in two different ways. Expecting very angry and snotty responses from some union fans about that lol
@stoneagepig3768 inspire, as a verb - to give rise to. So to say that rugby union gave rise to the creation of rugby league seems pretty correct to me, given league emerged from the schism from union, through a process of rule changes over time?
To all the rugby fans. You just aren’t going to turn a NFL fan into a rugby fan. It looks like a soccer/rugby hybrid thing. Polo is being paid to watch.
Americans need to be less focussed on Baseball and American Football and watch real sport. Baseball would be 10 times better if they didnt have gloves… watch cricket to see how catching is amazing
Here is a better idea How about non Americans needing to be less focussed on Rugby and Cricket and watch real sports like American Pro and College football or at the least taking time to learn and try playing before making asinine judgments and ignorant statements
What the hell is this "WE lead the league in..." nonsense? You haven't done anything so how can it be "WE"? You know I'm just playin...love yer videos.

Loving the rugby content dude. Watching from Brighton, England
Rugby. Tool. Zeppelin. Dylan. Good taste good content
I think the hats, or headbands are to protect ears from being ripped off
The thing about the kick forward is that, in principle, the ball is free, in open play.
You should check out women's rugby, ruthless
you need to react to the greatest rugby team!! the South African national team is called the springboks. they have just won the rugby world cup back to back. the toughest and best team!!
11:35 That Rees-Zammit has joined the NFL. Dunno what team or position but he'd be interesting for you to look up.
😂 5:53 no, the guy in front was on something 😂
I hope you noticed that the first few examples featured Norton the USA rugby player. Yes. USA have a national rugby team! He also scores for the USA in the final clip of the video.
Norton is English, Carlin Isles and Perry Baker are American
Can you imagine Derrick Henry playing rugby in his prime? It would be scary
React to Jonah Lomu, the greatest to ever do it. Luck my enough to have met him in Hong Kong he was the friendliest giant you could ever meet. Rest in peace big man.
love watching fiji 🇫🇯 in the irb 7s
Calling the Fijian Sevu Reece "another brother" :D
Great ! You should react to "Rugby Explained for American Football Fans"
If you enjoy broken ribs, a crushed head, multiple gashes and bruising, breaks and fractures…I suppose rugby is a lot of fun to play. 😂😂
Polo, check out Rugby '7's with 7 players per team with 2 seven minute halves with a 2 minute break between halves @ the Paris Olympics in July.
7's rugby has both men's and women's.
The hat is called a scrum cap it there to protect the ears in a scrum.
When Rugby Steppers humiliate opponents. Steps are jukes.
REES ZAMMIT a White rugby player who has speed to burn just signed for Kansas City Chiefs... played for Wales rugby. Look him up
Why feel the need to mention his skin colour? What does it have to do with anything?
what's his skin colour got to do with anything?
Too many. Brothers in this World 😳
It looks like more fun than football.
Bro check out the Flying Fijians , they're known as th Harlem Globetrotters of Rugby, both in the 7's and 15's game.
You won't regret it! Bless Up❤️
The first clip the guy in yellow did score but that was just show you how fast Carlin Isles is in my opinion the fastest Rugby player ever (the guy that almost chased yellow down)
I had right around 10sec for 100yds..not quite straight
Yes, they can kick the ball. Also you will notice the ball has to be touched down to score.
The first clip the guy in yellow did score but that was just show you how fast Carlin Isles is in my opinion the fastest Rugby player ever
No he’s not, he’s good but “comfortably the best” is woefully ignorant! Just ignoring plenty of other players
@@kurupt7154 Name one who comes close?
Love Rugby. Especially Aussie Rules.
Aussie Rules is not rugby!
@@lindascott6902 --- what do you call it Australian Football?
I hope that clears up any confusion 😂
@@stoneagepig3768 --- thanks for making my head hurt first thing on Monday morning.
Sorry brother lol have a coffee and I hope you have a good day. All the best from Yorkshire
7:15 Laumape reminds me of Jerome Bettis
If you are into rugby this is the weekend for you.
England play New Zealand, Wales play Australia and the big guns, South Africa world Champs vs Ireland world number 2 in a grudge match at the cathedral of rugby Loftus Versveld in Pretoria.....
I don't know which channel or service will carry this in the USA but I'm sure you will find a stream....
you need to checkout rugby league highlights too.
Marketing? Rugby existed decades before American Football, the biggesting marketing machine of all time.
lets have some more rugby videos
Take a look at most feared rugby team,Springboks of South Africa. Current World Champions
Unlike gridiron, in rugby only the ball carrier can be tackled
In fact your thumbnail shows a pic from an NRL game.
I'd love to see you check out some rugby league (NRL) - its a separate sport to rugby union, inspired by it, but much faster!
Go Ravens. Go Jane's Addiction
To all the rugby fans. You just aren’t going to turn a NFL fan into a rugby fan. It looks like a soccer/rugby hybrid thing. Polo is being paid to watch.
I'd go to a Rugby game in heartbeat! I gave up my love for watching sports for youtube. I couldn't tell you who won the last Super Bowl.
@@poloreacts27 Yeah well that’s sad.
Amerivan footbal has its origin from rugby.
What hurts american footballers the most is their protective gear, believe it ot not...
Your watching two different versions of the same game 7's and 15's, 7's is usually where the speed boys have the space to let rip less players!
In the first two cases 'the brothers'?!
All Americans seem to be obsessed with skin colour.
This is Rugby Union, equally as fast in Rugby League, not shown
This is 7 a side rugby 7v7 normal rugby 15v15 Rugby league is 13v13
Rugby is 🔥
Try rugby league far better game fitter players
Should watch Cheslin Kolbe
Americans need to be less focussed on Baseball and American Football and watch real sport. Baseball would be 10 times better if they didnt have gloves… watch cricket to see how catching is amazing
Here is a better idea How about non Americans needing to be less focussed on Rugby and Cricket and watch real sports like American Pro and College football or at the least taking time to learn and try playing before making asinine judgments and ignorant statements
Want speed ? Watch Cheslin Kolbe from South Africa
Please react to the NRL biggest hits etc or anything from the NRL it’s rugby but a bit different and wayyyy better
Bro check out Jona Lamo "Lord of the Wings" the GOAT of all time.
😢 see that tackle!
What the hell is this "WE lead the league in..." nonsense? You haven't done anything so how can it be "WE"?
You know I'm just playin...love yer videos.
Where is Jonah Lomu and Brian Habana?
Try passing a Rugby ball on the run. Not easy. Ever tried it? No, you haven't.
To be honest I went through your channel Playlist did not see much of rugby reactions. You really should watch more because rugby ain't no football or nfl or arl. You should watch rugby union. You won't regret it you will be like most Americans watching compilations and fall in love with the game especially with South Africa springbok rubgy
