    That "horse collar" tackle is legal in "LEAGUE". League and Union are two separate codes of Rugby. The only requirement when dragging someone out of bounds is that it's done in one single motion. Two efforts results in a penalty, because the tackle was completed after the first effort.

    What's missing from these clips is what happens directly after the hard hits most of the time. The tackled player is usually on his feet within seconds and back in the game. I have been to many games where a player has completely dislocated or broken fingers, one of the medical team will go on the pitch to straighten the fingers and tape the broken one to a none broken finger usually within a few seconds.

    Since you're enjoying these Rugby reactions, I thought I'd mention America is set to host the Rugby World Cup for this first time in 2031. It only happens every 4 years, so it seems a long way off yet. But that gives heaps of time to save if you would wanna go see some of the best games live! 😁 Hopefully the USA Eagles team has a good while to improve too! 😅 Perry Baker is great but he's getting up there in age. Hopefully he makes it to experience it! ❤

    I love watching Rugby more than I ever liked American Football. It's like a weird ballet. They toss the ball backward while running forward. It's beautiful to watch. I also love the fact the play doesn't stop every two seconds. They dig the ball out and keep it in play. I hate play stoppages for hang nails. American football is annoyingly slow compared to this.

    My roommate in college (50 years ago) played on a club team. The guy was impervious to pain LOL. One of his prized and most coveted possessions was a T Shirt that said "It Takes Leather Balls to Play Rugby". That summed it up pretty well for me. The most interesting part of the whole club rugby thing was that both teams would usually get together for a kegger after beating the crap out of each other all day and just have a great time. Very few lasting hard feelings.

    3:17 This is an iconic "State of Origin" moment. The game is rugby league (a different game to rugby union). Definitely worth watching a compilation of State of Origin moments. It's an annual 3-game series played between two Australian states (Queensland and New South Wales). Pinnacle of the sport and one of the toughest arenas in any football code.

    To get a try you have to be touching the ball when it is on the ground past the goal line. Comes from 'a try at kicking a goal', but is now worth points in itself. The goal kicker has to kick the same distance from the sideline the ball was, so its beneficial to get a try(touchdown) in the middle of the field to make the conversion (field goal) easier. In rugby you have to physically take the ball from the opposing team, in rugby league you have to turn it over after a set amount of downs. There are other ways to get the ball back into play if it goes out, Lineouts and Scrums. Its all fun and games.

    A try is only scored when the opponent has the ball under control and places it on the ground in the in-goal area. If a player falls short of the try line (goal line) then he is allowed to slide over the line, if his momentum carries him. A player is allowed to place or pass the ball immediately after the player contacts the ground (not with his feet). If such a placement is in the in-goal area then it is a score.

    There are two games of Rugby. Rugby Union and Rugby League. This is a mixture of both. Rugby League is the most brutal. The bit where the guy was thrown around after being grabbed by the collar of the shirt is rugby league. Tackler was Gordon Tallis playing for Queensland against New South Wales in State of Origin.

      @@edithdriver2094really ? League has far far more brutal tackling due to the defensive offside rule , 90% of union tackles happen with the defensive line lined up at the ruck , maybe 5 yard max for attacker momentum before contact, there’s a few massive open field collisions. Rugby League has defender by rules rushing up from 10 yards behind scrimmage line every play meeting an attacker with full momentum, every play hurts

    My country (New Zealand)'s national sport. The hardest man in rugby was probably Wayne "Buck" Shelford, but if you're squeamish, you probably don't want to read about his injuries! Some of the moves in this video (like the ones at 5:20 and 10:37 ) were illegal, but most of them were perfectly acceptable rugby tackles and fends! If you want to see a top match, look for coverage of an internationsal between any two fo Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa - you won't be disappointed. BTW, the guy at 12:12 was former French international Sebastien "The Caveman" Chabal. Not someone you want to get on the wrong side of on the pitch!

    The biggest misunderstanding I see with Americans discovering rugby is thinking that there are offensive and defensive teams (like there are in American football). Rugby is one team, playing almost non-stop, against another team. I think it has a lot more in common with basketball than American football in terms of the speed of play, how quickly things change and having to adapt, and awareness of where both your side and the opposition are on the field.

  • @bradleysmith4317
    @bradleysmith4317 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So for rules, if the ball goes thru the “end zone” like the clip where the player got hit and the ball flew into the end zone, it’s basically like a turn over. If you control the ball then it’s a try (like a TD). As far as rules, you can’t hit someone in head. Shoulder to head, forearm to head and such can result in a red card which means your kicked out. But yes you could grab someone by shirt and toss them out of bounds. That’s legal.

    • @WarrenBridges-um5cg
      @WarrenBridges-um5cg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bradleysmith4317 It is. Don't know about "Union" but in "League" it's only okay if you only do it in one single effort without losing momentum. Otherwise, it's a penalty as the loss of momentum in league constitutes a tackle depending on the ref's judgement.

      @@kidcolin oops, I missed American football. So yeah, except for basketball and American football (which is a derivative of rugby).
      The first record of baseball is in the 13th century in England. Call me ignorant, but I don’t think the USA existed in the 13th century (for the Americans reading this what I just said is what we call “sarcasm”). Oh, while I’m at it I should also explain to the Americans that the 13th century means in the 1200’s, which is over 800 years ago.
      The word “baseball” is first shown in an English kids illustration from 1744. It shows some people standing around bases with the following transcript in poem form:
      “BASE-BALL: the ball once struck off, away flies the boy, to the next destin’d post and then home with joy. Moral: the Britons of Lucre fly over the main; but with pleasure transported, return back again”.
      As for golf, again, for the benefit of you Americans: Britain consists England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They’re all part of Britain, so if you’re from Scotland your passport says “British”. Just like if you’re from Texas, your passport says you’re from the United States. To say Scotland is not British is like saying Texas is not American.
      So please - go back to school, but pay attention this time.

I suppose the same goes for actual football (soccer) cricket/baseball, like the greatest sports people in America throughout time are known for sports more or less only played in the states not nationwide. And as Brit it’s a shame to see it like that, they have so many naturally talented sports players in there country and would be among the best in the world at any sport they decide to play but the ones the world plays America tend to not get involved in, would love to see America be competitive in the most popular sports nationwide. Please, enough with the Rugby is more brutal than football--they tackle in Rugby at easy angles and occasionally have a hit, but in football it is all about the hitting, not just getting the guy down. Actually the clip has some union and some league in it. I have played both and league definitely is the most brutal but rules are making both games softer now. Go and watch some of the early State of Origin games in Rugby League.

    Welcime to rugby. These tackkes are normal to us. Rugby is a massive international sport. South Africa are the current world champions. We have a world cup every four years. No disrespect to NFL but rugby and rugby league are far superior.

    "And you can kick the ball forward and anyone can get it" No: your team-mates have to be BEHIND you as you kick the ball. If they are in front of you, they are off-side and are not allowed to touch the ball or they get penalised.

    Cool video with a NFL fan explaining rugby. I've just finished watching all your rugby reactions. In all the clips you watched, 75% of the action was "Rugby Union" (the main type of rugby, 15 men per team + subs), 20% was Rugby 7s (almost the same game, but only 7 players on the field per team,)and 5% would be Rugby League (a different game, like softball is different from ballball). th-cam.com/video/TeTB9NdA_F8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9PQIZ9b_l6sFo3Qn

    Three types of penalties are shown here. You are not allowed to hit a player in the head, particularly with the head or shoulder. You cannot pick up a player and intentionally throw him on the ground or hit a player in the air. You have to try to make a tackle and not just lower your shoulder to knock them down.

    for rugby anything above the shoulders is illegal, hits must be beneath kind of armpit height and even those can be penalised - especially for the older clips in these videos you can pretty much count those all as illegal because rugby tackling precautions and safety have been raised and tightened highly since back in the day due to many older players having developed early onset dementia, and other premature life-ending diseases that were linked to multiple concussions and brutal head hits that were once legal

    You're not quite right about who can go after a kicked ball. You must be onside to play a kicked ball. if you are in front of a ball when it is kicked you are offside.

    If you can't take the hit don't play the game. A good rule of thumb .

    4.49: look how the white player protects his tackled opponent because his immediately realize he is K.O. Rugby is a rude sport but mutual respect is a fundamental notion for players and supporters.
