NO DOWNS! That's the most basic thing to know coming from NFL. Play is continuous until someone scores or infringes and causes a penalty. The rules after a tackle are quite complicated, but the basics are: - Tackler has to let go of the ball - People can only play the ball if they first push the other team off it. Only players on their feet can participate in this mini wrestling match. At 14:37 the defending player number 2 managed to get over the ball and stop the attacking player from releasing the ball, this caused a penalty and got the defending team out of jail.
Scrum - the 8 forwards from both teams pack down in a formation. In the front row #1 to #3 (prop, hooker, prop). Second row #6, #4, #5, #7 (flanker, lock, lock, flanker), at the back, #8 (eight man). The idea is To push the other team off the ball. If the ball goes out of bounds, the game restarts with a Line Out. The forwards jump to compete for the ball. The Locks and the Flankers are normally the tallest players in the team. It is their job to take the ball in the line out. In rugby the number denotes a position. Not a specific player. The object is to ground the ball behind the oppositions try line. This is called a Try (5 points). The. The scoring team attempts to “Convert” the try by kicking the ball between the posts for 2 more points. You can also kick a “ Penalty” for 3 points, or, a “drop goal” for 3 points. You move the ball forward by carrying the ball, passing the ball BACKWARDS to a team mate, or, by kicking the ball forward. When you kick, all the players on your team that were behind the kicker are allowed to chase the ball and to compete for possession. Hop that helps a little.
As far as the athleticism, keep in mind, the game is 80 minutes long and the only significant stop is halftime, like soccer. In most of those clips, the players had been running around, giving and taking hits for half an hour or more!
@@roycep1737 I'm not sour. Just telling the honest truth. Everyone already knows this. Especially the last one. That was the biggest tin arse in rugby history. The Springboks were never gonna beat this All Blacks team unless they were a man down for 50 minutes. And it happened..

Players dive to touch tbe ball down as it is far harder to tackle them and prevent scoring. You have to touch the ball down in the end zone to score. @7:12 - thats called a SCRUM ..A scrummage, commonly known simply as a scrum, is a method of restarting play in rugby that involves players packing closely together with their head ...
