  • Recently, I woke up and was in severe pain. The more I moved, the more pain I had. I decided I needed to get medical intervention. I went to the Emergency Department, where I was diagnosed with pancreatitis and pneumonia. #lifewithavent #emergencydepartment #pneumonia

    Sorry you went through this but thank god it worked out for you. Your experience is very typical of what's happening everywhere with staff shortages and the high demand for respiratory team.

    I’m so glad that resolved fairly quickly. It’s crazy how you’re supposed to rest in the hospital but someone’s always coming in and interrupting. Of course, if you need something, then it takes forever. Or it seems that way. All the best, regardless.

    So sorry you had another hospital stay. ER room waits for a room always seem so long. I never realized a person with a vent needed a different bed than a regular hospital bed. Could you explain why and what the difference is? I am so glad you are back home again and thank you for the detailed explanation and video coverage of your stay. Take care, God Bless-Russ

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many hospitals have policies for people who use a ventilator. They have to be admitted to the ICU, step down ICU or a special section of the hospital where a respiratory therapist is present. Most of the regular wards do not have a respiratory therapist on staff. If something goes wrong with my ventilator, it can take hours for a respiratory therapist to respond.
      The hospital where I am at in this video, I do not know if they have a hospital policy about ventilators. I have been placed in the regular medical unit before. The issue comes in when I am being transferred, the nurse is told I am on a ventilator. Without even looking at me (or talking to me), the assumption is made that I require EXTENSIVE medical care. The nurse can refuse to take me as a patient.
      That is a great question. I think I will make it into a video.

    So sorry it took so long... you know, you don't want to be off in a corner somewhere! A worse nightmare than hours in the ER. Poor pancreas. Feel better 💗.
    (Sometimes you can ask them to write an order for vital signs q6 or q12, instead of the standard q4.... probably you know that. It can help decrease all the interruptions)

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I did not know that orders can be written for vitals. I will ask if I am ever hospitalized again. Thank you for the information.

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not recall for this emergency department visit. Usually they do not give pain medicine. If they do offer me anything, it is ibuprofron (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
