But we certainly know our own bodies and what has worked in the past. Good on you! I have to take steroids myself as one of my anti-rejection medications for my kidney transplant.

    I find this interesting as normally, we don't even realise we are using muscles to breathe, it's only when we really stop and think about it. I know when I stop to think about it I am scared that I'm going to stop breathing together. I wondered now what muscles actually Be are using to breathe? I just can't imagine not using muscles and just having the air come and go. Wow! I'm really loving listening to all these videos. They are teaching me so much. Thanks.

    Happy New Year! I like seeing how other ventilators work. I used to have a Newport, but they are no longer serviceable, so now I have an Astral. Very fancy. It has a touch screen, but in order to use that, you have to unlock the screen, so there is no accidental touches. Are you not able to use an HME (Heat Moisture Exchange)? I would think that would be 1000 times better than lugging another device around!! 💜

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for sharing. I am sorry they not longer service the Newport. How do you like the Astral? I can use an HME, but when i use HMEs, my airways often dry out. This leads to mucus clogging my trach tube. Additionally, my throat becomes so dry, I often lose the ability to speak when I use an HME. Also, whenever I use HMEs for any extended time, I almost always get sick. While using an HME, the inhaled air is colder than using a heated humidifier. The colder air decreases the temperature of the airway, which in turn inhibits the immune system from functioning. This allows for a person to more easily get sick because the immune system is not operating at its optimum. Lastly, when using an HME, I become extremely cold. I have to wear about five layers of clothing, and still I am often shivering.

    • @saulithyia
      @saulithyia วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@LifewithaVent Ha! I'm the opposite with the HME. We joke that's I'm a "hot mess" because of how hot I am. I create so much condensation, I have to be careful not to "drown" myself. Before the trach/vent, I had chronic respiratory illnesses... sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia... it was awful, on top of the then undiagnosed disease that was causing my shortness of breath. But, since the trach/vent 6 years ago, I have not had anything, not even a cold. We credit the filters on the vent and the fact that I cannot breathe through my nose/mouth, so my chance at catching cooties is drastically decreased. I love the Astral! The Newport was such a dinosaur and was very limited in options beyond settings the settings. With the Astral, I can set the alarm volumes and frequencies so it's not alarming every time I move. It's also easier to read, it saves data so you can go back and look at readings, like how often my breathing changed in volume while I was asleep, and that info can be downloaded as well. And, it's MUCH quieter! That's because the Newport ran on pistons, so you could hear the harsh "woooo pssssh" it made with every breath. The Astral is run on a fan, so it's also more continuous air flow and really no louder than say, a computer fan. And, I can run this one off my chair battery and it hardly draws much power, so I can go all day and not need to recharge anything until I go to bed. Suits my busy lifestyle much, MUCH better. No more constant "Where's an outlet?" hunts! 💜

    Why do two same drugs of the same formula, the same compound, from two different pharmaceuticals produce different therapeutic responses? Why do the same compound and the same dose from two different companies produce different therapeutic results?

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your question. I am going to give you a very extended answer to hopefully shed light on this topic. In many families, they have family recipes. They are passed down from generation to generation. It is a common occurrence that a child tries to duplicate the mother’s or grandmother’s food item. Even with having the recipe with the exact ingredients, most of the time the child or grandchild cannot exactly recreate the cherished food. The taste, texture and/or appearance of the food will be different. Why is that? Even though the same ingredients are used, they are added in a certain fashion. Also, the ingredients come from a particular source, specific implements (mixing bowls, oven, cooking dish, etc.) are used and other variables also affect the outcome of the recipe. All these slight differences change the outcome of the recipe. The same happens for medicines. The way a medicine is mixed, the quality of ingredients used, the order the ingredients are added, etc., all significantly affect the final product. Please also note, most drugs have unique formulas which are patented. While the drug is patented, no one else can make the drug. However, once the patent expires, the medicine can be made by different companies. When the patent expires, the ingredients are made public. What is often kept a secret is the formula (i.e., the exact recipe) of the medicine. So while the medicines may have the same ingredients, the amounts of each ingredient can vary greatly. Also, the quality of ingredients and the source from where the ingredients are obtain can be very different. All these differences can alter the way a medicine functions in the body.

    Im sorry i have to ask this question. I have watched a few of your videos but i still didnt quite grasp what illness or condition you exactly have. Your symptoms go beyond POTS, you had periods of ME/CFS if i recall correctly. Have you ever done antibody testing for things like EBV, RSV, lyme? Im asking because i too mysteriously fell very very ill in the last 6 months (after 29 years of rock solid health) and while im in remission for 4 weeks now, i have a chronic inflammation and damage to my lung vessels that no doctor can explain.

    Thanks for your help ,my grandfather got tracheostomy 2-3 days back , can you please help me with some doubts below 1. Is it necessary to deflate the cuff with fenestrated tube as well while using the speaking valve or the fen hole is enough ? 2. How do you speak without speaking valve ?

    • @LifewithaVent
      @LifewithaVent 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your questions. 1. Yes, it is necessary to deflate the cuff on a fenestrated tracheotomy tube when using a speaking valve. 2. To understand how to speak without a speaking valve, please watch this video where I explain how a traceheosotmy tube affects speech and how.a person can speak wihtout a speaking valve: th-cam.com/video/V66IcKphxp0/w-d-xo.html

    I love how informative your channel is. Love learning about others with different disabilities. My mom passed from COVID, she had Lupus, RA, Chrons , Depression , Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, multiple surgeries for hernias and back issues, and so many other health issues but she was the ROCK for EVERYONE she knew. Ive noticed the most battered of us and those of us that are SERIOUSLY tested by god are the strongest people. I wish you a healthy 2025 ❤

      @LifewithaVent Thanks for the reply. I remember years ago visiting my uncle, who was in tbe hospital, they had him in a geriatric unit of the hospital. The nurses actually didn't want us to wear masks because it made the place feel like a hospital, and they wanted it to feel more like home.

      That is great that they did that. I am sure it helped your uncle and everyone in the unit to feel at ease.
