Life with a Vent
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 มิ.ย. 2016
Trach Tubes, Ventilators & medical challenges are my life! I love to share info I have gained and tips and tricks which are helpful. I have been using a ventilator since 2016 and got my tracheostomy tube in 2017. Having chronic medical conditions such as Mitochondrial Disease, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, etc., keeps me at home and in bed most of the day. Despite all this, I continue forth with a cheerful heart and always looking for the good in everything. May this channel be a blessing to others.
Tracheostomy Tube Size CONFUSION! How the Error Nearly KILLED a Girl. Life with a Vent
Tracheostomy tubes use two different sizing systems called International Organization of Standardization (ISO) and Jackson sizing. These two sizing systems are NOT interchangeable and cause a lot of confusion in the medical community. One girl nearly died when her doctor switched tracheostomy tube brands and unknowingly changed the diameter of her tracheostomy tube! #lifewithavent #trach #medicalemergency

When going to the emergency department, and the doctor decides to admit me to the hospital, it is often a challenge to get a room in the hospital. Yes.
@LifewithaVent antibiotics like Metronidazole and Doxycycline cause mitochondria dysfunction. Mitochondria looks like bacteria under a microscope. I have some mitochondria dysfunction and nutrition deficiency from taking antibiotics. Wishing a continuous healing journey. It took me 9 years to figure out the root cause.
Man I'm so proud of you <3

Insane, how the therapist just left without monitoring the patient or leaving someone on call who could monitor the patient. That is actual negligence.

Unlucky with the ovarian cyst. I had a large ovarian cyst but it was found in time. I was told if it burst I would have died.
Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I am so sorry to hear you had a large ovarian cyst. I am so glad it was found in time. All my best to you.
I am liking and sharing it, so as to gain more attention. This is one of the multiple reasons why I seriously mistrust the medical profession nowadays. Just yesterday, it was revealed that a man received a terminal cancer diagnosis from a renowned hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece's second biggest city, one year after he went to that hospital for appendicitis.
Thank you for sharing and liking it. I appreciate your support. I am sorry to hear about the man in Greece. How heart breaking.
it's great that you could find something motivates you.
Thank you.
I hope you're recovering ok. Sounds like it's awful
Thank you. I am feeling better.
You might have a blood clot in your left leg too, please get it checked, my Dad had that....
Thank you. I appreciate the suggestion. I am sorry to hear your dad had that.

Thank you.
I hope u are feeling better. Hospitals are terrible for sleeping and recovering. I have experienced a huge asthma attack due to a virus thankfully I was already in emergency. You handled being so breathless and feeling terrible so well. Weird thing to say but unless u have ever truly experienced it, it's terrifying. U are truly amazing and hope u are feeling better
Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I am sorry you experienced a huge asthma attack. I cannot image everything you endured. Thank you for all your kindness. I really appreciate it.
You are an inspiration and a warrior. ❤❤
Thank you. I appreciate your kindness.
You could take notes on observations regarding your condition from your perspective , details that could help in the future perhaps. Somehow being a doctor that way as well...
Thank you. I appreciate the suggestion.
Try carnivore diet and high doses of vitamin A. I had the same issues, almost died this year (also a med student also had to drop out) and turns out i have a gene that causes me to not be able to convert beta carotene to retinol efficiently(BCMO1 GENE) and makes me obly able to use animal sources of vitamin a, so i had an extreme vitamin a deficiency that no doctor could diagnose, i did it myself with elimination diet. Its been a week since i discovered that and this is what works for me: 100.000 uis of beta carotene capsules as my body will convert only a small amount, bovine colostrum, meat, dairy, eggs, and other supplements like multivitamins, NAC, omega 3, etc My heart was at 140bpm at rest, now its 90bpm, had tinnitus, memory loss, fatigue, breathing issues, gi issues, diarrhea, etc now im slowly recovering but also struggle with the same depression as you described... my story is very long and the way i came to my diagnosis took me several years... but i feel so validated by your story as it reminded me of what ive been through
Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I am sorry you have been through so much. I cannot imagine everything you have endured. I am glad you have found things which have helped improve your life. Thank you for sharing this information with me. I really appreciate it. All my best to you.

Does it ever make you sad to know that little kids have to use a tracheotomy. It makes me sad
I’m a lot older than you and watch your videos for inspiration. You’re a tough fighter. Health care in 2024…very sad how disconnected and broken. You’re beautiful no matter how your hair looks 🙏
Please dont talk hun Dont stress .get well ❤❤❤❤
Thank you.
God bless you.
Thank you.
If you took the convid shot, that could be why?so sorry your suffering. Get off the internet and relax.
I am sorry what happened to you and glad you made it through the dark tunnel. I think it is important that you take some action against the doctor in order to save other lives. This was not her first time nor will it be the last. How many lives need to be taken by her until someone does something. I think because of your experience it is partly your responsibility to do something, what ever is possible. Whether its a letter to the hospital, an oversight board, health department, taking legal representation, or whatever means you can think of. Please don't let this slide. Use your voice and save others...
❤
Thank you.
God bless you❤
Thank you.
Hello. My name is Herbert. I have just said a prayer for you. God's will is perfect, even if we don't understand it sometimes. I just want you to know that someone is out there that cares about you.
Sounds like you've had a really "rough go of it." I like your sarcastic humor. Blood clots can definitely be scary. My sister had a blood clot that traveled from her calf to her lungs to her heart and then her brain. She was revived 4 times but didn't survive long enough to have the clot busting drug. She was 53 years old and left behind 3 daughters. It was such a tragedy. I hope things improve as much as possible for you.
2:10 No thanks to the surgeons who *actually did the surgery.* I thank God for saving your future patients, you probably would've told them to just pray to God.
Thank you for sharing. I appreciate the insight. I am sorry you misheard my words. I said, "God allowed me to live." I am very grateful for the surgeon. However, many, many things happened which should have killed me. For example, the surgeon was doubtful I would live through the surgery. Then there was a VERY SERIOUS complication during the surgery, which the surgeon said she does not know how the issue resolved itself. If the issue would not have resolved itself, the surgeon said I would have died. God was indeed given credit for saving my life...as one doctor emphatically exclaimed this to me when he saw me after surgery. The surgeon did the best she could, but Divine Intervention is what ultimately spared my life. I always tell people to pray to God. We need all the help we can get.
I am a nurse inpatient and you have been so nice for all those interruptions. I was admitted once and had a do not disrurb order immediately. Get well soon and get some rest. Tell the nurse to put sign on your door!!!!! 😠 😡 unbelievable. They can clustet care!!!!
You ssid you're allergic to morphine and they DISMISSED IT???????? sue the eff out of them
Thank you for sharing. I appreciate the insight.
I listened to first symptom of yours which is rapid heart rate when you stood up and immediately my brain jumped to POTS. I am a doctor with four years post grad clinical experience only. I am so surprised and disappointed they couldnt catch that. It's literally the red flag symptom. I wish you the best and its so amazing that you're spreading more information than most doctors. Sending love xx
Thank you so much. I appreciate all the insight and kindness. All my best to you.
I was in the Class of 1995 at UC Irvine College of Medicine. Four of us didn't make it, including myself. 1) Lack of career compatibility (me). 2) Serious brain injury after getting hit by car while walking across the PCH 3) Self deletion 4) Severe Depression. It's sad indeed but there is more to life than the grueling career of MD. I taught public school for 25 years, and now finishing up my working life as a Nurse Assistant on a more manageable 36 hrs a week schedule.
Such a beautiful person. Keep doing what you’re doing. I think you should write a book and have a movie written about your life
Thank you. I appreciate your kindness. Those are great ideas.

Thanks for making these videos! I'm glad your out of the hospital. Question, what does a ventilator do? Since you can breathe without the machine, can you go without it for a long time? Or is it something you need 24/7? I see you can push air around with your lungs without the machine attached. I am sorry if my question seems silly, I don't know how these machines work, they fascinate me though!
Thank you for your question. My ventilator pushes air in and out of my lungs. I can breathe for a short time without my ventilator, but soon my breathing muscles tire. If I do not connect back to my ventilator, my breathing muscles stop working, and I stop breathing. I stay connected to my ventilator for most of the day. I hope this answers your question.
@LifewithaVent That explains it, thanks! I really hope your lungs recover!
Maybe all your health issues were triggered by too much stress in the medical school? Well, it is water under the bridge now. But we are souls locked in these bodies and we go on forever after we die. Everyone has a purpose on this Earth. You just need to accept your life the way it is and find a silver lining in whatever happened to you. With whatever is going on right now in the medical field, your karma is better off without participating in what all the doctors are required to participate. I used to feel just like you when I wanted to become a CPA and I said I would rather die than not to become a CPA. And 12 years later I left profession totally disappointed. I loved the school but work was not what I thought it would be, it was brutal, cut throat environment. Same goes for medical field. It is cut throat and you have 15 minutes per patient and you just follow the protocol not to get sued. My daughter is RN, she used to want to become a doctor but seeing what she sees now, she changed her mind. Too much responsibility, too much stress and not much money. Maybe your purpose is to inspire other disabled people to keep going and never give up. Good luck to you and stay strong.
Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I am sorry you went through so much. I cannot imagine how heart-breaking that must have been. Thank you also for telling me about your daughter. I appreciate all your kindness and insight. All my best to you and your daughter.
I am so moved by you and your struggles. I will pray God’s mercy be given to you each day. Forgive me, I will call you “Lily” when I pray for you and when I ask others to pray for you to. Bless you Lily. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much. I appreciate your kindness and prayers.
