I’ve had my trach for 10 days now and I bought some pretty scarves from the Dollar Tree, and ordered some from Temu that I’m very pleased with. I worry about getting stares, glares, and questions. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your videos. It sucks you had to deal with that woman like that, and I’m happy you didn’t have her on your other flight.
I don't doubt that some people rudely stare, but be aware of what's called the spotlight effect. We all overestimate the extent to which others notice/pay attention to us, especially things we're self conscious about. The reality is, most people don't care and some may just instinctively look cause it's out of the ordinary till they understand what's going on. I have sleep apnea which means I have to wear a CPAP mask every night for the rest of my life. They're not comparable, but looks-wise I'd argue it looks way more weird/uncomfortable to others than a tube in your neck. Imagine your SO thinking you're Bane from batman every night basically. But I don't care, I own it. P.S. You're a beauty.
I have a trach for 7 yrs now . I don't mind going in the public with the tube in. For me the people have the most respect for me . Sometimes kids look at me funny because they don't know what they are looking at
great video. Glad the airport person didn't delay your getting to the gate. I'm sure flight attendants have seen trachs before the reason they said nothing....when is your next trip?
Wonderful:) my dad currently doesn’t have the tube or venti attached so we need a really thin cloth so he can breathe through it / but he has extreme weight loss so I don’t take him out
I have so many questions I would love to pick your brain lol I got a trach 6 months ago and it has been so hard I spend more time in the hospital then at home . You are an inspiration to me if you have any free time I would love to hear from you I could use as much help as I can thank you

A little off topic but I was wondering how you cope when your POTS symptoms flare up when you’re traveling ?, or have you had some improvement over the last few years ? It seems as though you are able to start your day much earlier than you used to - in your earlier videos you seemed quite debilitated by the POTS and your Chronic Pancreatitis.
Hello. Thank you for your question. When traveling, I usually get up around the same time as I do at home. When on a cruise ship, on sea days, my days are nearly identical to at home. I get up around 10 or 11 a.m. When we are in port, I get up around 9 or 10 a.m., depending on when the cruise gets into port. (If the cruise does not get into port until 11 a.m. or noon, I sleep in longer.) Also on a cruise ship, we book inside cabins. There are no windows in an inside cabin. We usually get done with supper around 6 or 6:30. I then go back to the cabin. With no internet access, no windows to tell my brain what time it is and no energy to leave the cabin to go to the numerous activities on the ship, I am often in bed by 9 p.m. Cruise ships tend to be night oriented. With that, I mean food is served until 10 p.m. and many activities go until midnight. In the mornings, there are few activities (because most people are sleeping) and breakfast is served until 11 a.m. (And if you miss breakfast, lunch begins at noon.)
I need to block off my tracheostomy tube so air will travel up my airway and through my vocal cords. If I do not put my finger over the tracheostomy tube hole, then the majority of the air will go out the tracheostomy tube, bypassing my vocal cords, which makes it very hard to speak.
hi i have bilateral vocal cord paresis and my ENT drs insist that i need a trach as its difficult to breathe and i tire easily. i am scared to get one especially taking care of it so i wont get an infection. how do you eat? Do you hace difficylty swallowing too?please tell me how you manage to cope i really admore you and you are so young too.
@@estherboodoosingh4786 Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I eat by mouth. I do not have difficulty swallowing. Taking care of a trach tube requires a little bit of learning, but on the whole, it is not too challenging. Please also note, getting a tracheostomy tube is a reversible procedure. If after getting a tracheostomy tube, it is too much work or you simply do not like having a tracheostomy tube, the tracheostomy tube can be removed and the hole will close up. You will then go back to breathing the way you are now. For me, it was either get a tracheosotmy tube and live, or don't get a trach tube and die. My only regret about getting a trach tube is that I did not get one sooner. I struggled for a long time to breathe. I wish a doctor would have told me I needed a trach tube sooner. It would have saved me from spending many days in bed not being able to do anything because I was struggling to breathe.
I adore watching your videos and if let’s say one your subscribers saw you in public how would you handle that? If I saw you in public I would love to stop and talk to you. I have know idea were you live and I’m obviously not going to say were I live and the chances of me ever seeing you in public in very low but if I do ever see you in public I would want to know how to handle seeing you and not hurt your feelings❤❤❤
Thank you for your question. A woman (who is subscribed to my channel) was visiting a friend in the area. I happened to be in the grocery store, and the woman saw me. She ran up to me and tapped me on the shoulder. She introduced herself, and we talked for a short while. It was really nice. If you or anyone else recognizes me, please feel free to come up to me and introduce yourself. I always enjoy meeting people.

@LifewithaVent do you get the hiccups some times 😊

I like how you hid you trach with the scarf. How do you hide the ventilator?
To hide my ventilator, I often place it on the back of my wheelchair. People usually do not see it on the back of my wheelchair.

Thank you for your comment. I am not sure when I will next travel.
Marie, book your flight to buffalo ny. There are lots of things that you need to try.
Thanks for the tip!

Does he have dysphagia?
@@vijayak7308 he had cancer and then aspirational pneumonia. He is on a nose tube since 8-9 months now.
Is it possible for a patient with a tracheotomy to do exercises to improve breathing while the tracheotomy is closed?
That is a great question. Please ask a medical provider or respiratory therapist to get the best ask to your question.

🤩💟🤍You can't tell you have one when you style it like you did. Has anyone ever bumped into your trach area?
No, no one has ever bumped into my trach area.

@@LifewithaVent Got it, Thanks
You are are awesome love your channel
Thank you so much.
Why do you have to hold your finger on the hole when you talk
I need to block off my tracheostomy tube so air will travel up my airway and through my vocal cords. If I do not put my finger over the tracheostomy tube hole, then the majority of the air will go out the tracheostomy tube, bypassing my vocal cords, which makes it very hard to speak.
@LifewithaVent thankyou for letting me know, it's very interesting.
@@rowenawilson2323 You're welcome.
Will you ever get the tracheotomy out?
No, I will never get the tracheostomy tube out. It is permanent.
