    Removing the deck yesterday was a first for me. Your video was the perfect "manual" for getting the job done. Thank you.

    I was able to back the video up and see the wrench that you used to loosen the pulleys, but it would be a good idea, in the future, if you would always tell us what size wrenches or sockets are required for the bolts. I think I will be able to replace my deck belt without removing the whole deck. Time is of the essence on this task this time.

    Your video is a comprehensive straight forward instruction that was very helpful to me. A bonus was that your mower was clean and the video lighting was bright and crisp.

    I'm out of shape and 57 and I did this without removing the deck or loosening pulleys.
    1. Lower deck all the way and remove side guards (covers) over the blade spindles as he shows you at 3:21 minutes in.
    2. Remove old belt by whatever means necessary. Use gloves if you need to and pry the belt out of the idler guards. (not sure what the formal name is) I used a large screwdriver for leverage to expand the gap. My belt broke so it was not problem.
    3. Skip ahead to 4:45 minutes into the video and route your new belt.
    4. To get the belt past the idler, pry the guide away from the idler and slip in the new belt. Use that large screwdriver again. Hint, if you spray the area with window cleaner it might make this easier. Window cleaner will evaporate and not leave a slippery residue but will lubricate the area temporarily.
    5. Finish up by folding the belt through the front guard and attach. It should be loose. If it looks like you have no slack you either got the wrong size belt or you have not pulled through the excess all the way.
    6. Fire up your mower and engage the blade to make sure it works. Shut it down and take a look to make sure everything looks good.
    Done. No need to put those side guards back on. All they do is collect debris. OK if you are concerned go ahead and put them back on. I did not.

      Thank you so much. I am a 65 year old out of shape woman and was able to fix the belt on my rider by myself. Thanks to you.

    Don't forget to connect the PTO spring first, like it shows. It's very difficult once it the deck is connected.
    Rant: I can't believe you have to do all this work to change a belt. I'm tempted to remove the guards, as one of the other commenters says he has. Here's hoping the belt last a LONG time.

    My blade belt comes off within 5 seconds of setting the PTO to anything less than level 3. So frustrating.

    Where does the PTO spring hookup on the deck. No way see where you are hooking it. I bought this troy bilt in pieces. I had a lot of things to rebuild, carb, valve adjustments, steering gear. I have the cable with the spring on it but no idea where to hook it. My deck is black but appears the same as the one in this video.

    Great video. I replaced my belt on my Troy Pony. I followed the directions on my owners manual and I got the belt number part from my owners manual too. After replacing the belt I noticed that it is too loose, now the blades won’t engage. I’m I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi Mauro, unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer technical support. I would suggest contacting the manufacture for further information. I sincerely apologize.

    Thanks for the video. I have this same lawn tractor and I made sure to buy the correct part. I replaced the belt as the video said, but the belt seems very loose. I'm sure I have the right part (matched it up by the serial number), and I know that the belt is routed the correct way. Any suggestions?

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you may want to look at it again and make sure that you have the belt keepers and tension spring in the correct positions.

  • @frizzlei

    When I attempt to install the replacement belt (from Lowes), the belt will not fit around the drive pulley.... what am I doing wrong... the belt it routed correctly, but seems like it needs to be stretched to reach over that pully. Whereas the existing belt fits around the pulley, but is loose to the point of almost falling off....

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double check to make sure the lever for the blade is disengaged and that the routing of the belt is correct around the
      idler. This one this causes alot more stress and headaches than almost anything else. If these are correct and the new belt is too small you may want to take the numbers off the old belt and try to match it that way. You don't want to install the belt and have it too tight because it will cause the new belt to fail but more important, it causes tensions on the mandrels and
      bearings shortening their life. If the recommended belt is too short for your deck, you may want to take the old belt into an automotive parts store and ask for a belt a little smaller. Most stores and quickly match it for you.

    That's a lot of unnecessary work to change a belt. It can be changed while still on the mower.

    • @FIXTechGuides

      Hi Peter, if I was changing the belts on a three blade mower, I would take pictures of where the belts were located on the mower. Then remove the deck, then replace the belts.
