@@ic3man669 the problem I'm having with the shield is that its 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage is getting old as you said, and it's a CPU speed is been slowly taken over by some of the recent models. However the GPU side of its APU(CPU and GPU in one chip) no other box can match the performance of that GPU component to date. So it's a Catch-22 situation when deciding if all not to go with the Nvidia shield. This is a solid TV Box with more features than Nvidia shield, however its GPU component of the CPU is not going to outperform the Nvidia shield. So if you decide to go this one is a good buy.
dear nick, sometimes when i on the homatic box the volume isn't loud and need power off and on again the sound will be back to normal, is it problem when i connect to G20S pro BT?
Could be an issue where you have more than one remote connection via Bluetooth. For example, you can try unpairing the Homatics remote or removing the batteries so that it disconnects via Bluetooth. Or disconnect the G20S and use the stock remote to see if the problem persists
The USB-C port is meant for their DVB-T2/C dongle. You can simply upgrade this box to feature basic free TV channels. It is the best solution and it works seamlessly.
At that price , I'd stick to the Shield......another thing I don't like is that when you click" Other Payment Options" it still goes to PayPal....I don't know about you guys but credit card protection is a lot better than PayPal!!!!

It's actually the best one yet for Android TV (not for gaming). Too bad the price is $150, which is exactly like the new 2022 Apple TV 4K. But the Apple TV streamer is better and has a much more fluid interface, if you don't mind getting into the Apple eco-system. Were the price for this Homatics streamer around $70, I'd buy a couple units right now.

I was almost going for Chromecast 4k, but then discovered this brand and model. It was way pricier than Chromecast 4k, but totally worthed. But mine has a top metal plate of copper color, not silver one.
Good choice. This is the best Google certified S905X4 to date. While others are limited to 2GB 16GB this one has 4GB 32GB, it's got USB type C which are no other box have, and it supports Dolby vision with regular updates.

When I connect a touchscreen monitor you don't get touchscreen functions, you do however get auto screen rotation. If the USB C port was a display port you would've gotten touchscreen function.

@@tvboxstop after looking into it more and reading all the negative reviews and faults it has on amazon I think I will stick to the KM6 deluxe there's not even an 4K upscaling, one of the reviews says, "if you are considering buying this box then be aware that BBC iPlayer and ITVX will not work. It's very expensive to be limited in the app department so think carefully." its a lot of money for a tv box that has so many faults quite glad I read up about it all
Yes it has HDMI pass-through for TrueHD however it's not processing DTS HD-MA and DTS X. I cannot say for sure if it passes through PLEX as I'm not a Plex user.

On Dunes website it said it supports DTS-HD and DTS:X, have you updated your device since you uploaded this video and tried to play those files again? If so does it work now? If not do you think it will come in an update further down the line?

Yes it can install third-party apps but listen. Copy the app to its internal storage and install it from there. I discovered that you to Google security installing APKs from external storage gets blocked. If copy APK to its download folder it installs from there.
If you play a self hosted Dolby vision video through Kodi the video will play smoothly but it will not activate the Dolby vision feature on your TV. However if you have full access to Netflix through Kodi and you have an HD or 4K account I am still not sure if it will activate a Dolby vision on your TV. Reason being Kodi itself needs to have Dolby certification to access the Dolby vision feature on your TV. That is why Dolby vision is only activated on your TV when you use the official Netflix apps and others. With that said this box does activate the Dolby vision feature on your TV using the official streaming apps only.
Hi Yes Downloader is available on the Play Store. It installs without issues and it works well with the included remote to navigate the browser with the on-screen cursor and to enter search phrases.
Interesting and attractive product. Thank you for the thorough review. A few things: The Homatics site lists the price of the Box R 4K Plus as $150 US as of today. Also, I see there's a 4k (non-Plus) model that is available for pre-order at $90 US. While the non-Plus model features 8gb instead of 32gb storage, unlike the Plus model it DOES have a micro-SD card slot. Otherwise, same processor but no Dolby Atmos, etc. One other thing I noticed: power supply is 12v, not 5v. I often run my Android TV boxes off a 5v power bank or common USB power supply. The 12v requirement means this won't be the replacement for my aging Mi Box S.
Yes you are correct as the have some variation models to suit your price and hardware requirements. Also you need to be careful with that power requirement as the jack is the size and fit of other models of 5V 2A so you can end up damaging your unit as I nearly did one time.
Great video. I just had a quick question. Why not try using Coreelec media player to test audio formats? For instance, I have a Beelink GT Pro which when I use Coreelec it plays All lossless and lossy audio files ( passthrough to my Yamaha receiver). But Kodi, VLC and the native Movie player will only play some audio files ( no TrueHD Atmos). The only tv media boxes that will passthrough all audio formats are the Zidoo Z9x, Nvidea Shield tv and Amlogic tv boxes using Coreelec.
You forgot about Dune and Zappiti, which all share the same RTD1619DR CPU. I own the Dune and while these are amazing for local media, there streaming is limited as they are not fully certified and use AOSP. I only get UHD HDR with TH-cam and that's only because it's using a non official TH-cam app. Most streaming boxes don't do DTS because Dolby won the streaming wars so it's not worth the licensing to most.. Below is from the Zidoo forums. It's a shame because all three support WineVine. They also support more Dolby Vision profiles and let you choose between STD (display led) and LLDV (player led) as STD is better for video content like movies. One question, were you able to test Atmos embedded in a Dolby TrueHD signal? Atmos isn't technically a format. It's object based metadata embedded into a DD+ (lossy) or Dolby TrueHD (lossless) signal. All streaming services use DD+ and typically only support Dolby Vision Profile 5 and 8 which are both LLDV and can't read dual layers like Profile 7, which is what UHD disks use. The Dune supports Dolby Vision Profile 4, 5, 7, 8 and I believe 9 (Dolby has made DV WAY too complicated). For example, Kodi can playback a UHD ISO file but only in HDR. UHD disks have a second 1080p layer with the DV profile 7 info and players like the Shield can't play ISO files in DV. Vanilla HDR is on the UHD layer so that's why you only get HDR. These 3 players are probably the best players for local media but they are terrible for streaming services. The below is what you will get with all 3 of those players. The VS10 engine is amazing but it doesn't work with the android streaming services, only the native Linux player does for local media. They are not Google certified and come with APKPure and not Google Play. Google Play Movies Full HD (1080p) / stereo Netflix Full HD (1080p) / stereo (Netflix 4K en Android) HBO HD (720p) / stereo, needs mouse (HBO en Android) Disney+ HD (720p) / stereo includes Dolby Digital Plus (Disney+ en Android) Amazon Prime Video SD (480p) / stereo, needs mouse (Prime Video en Android) etc

Even though it is a certified model it all boils down to what decoders are needed to decode the ISO format. I have never done it before because the file sizes involved are too large to download. From what I read the VLC player is capable of reading the ISO file, and I guess its certification with Dolby license should accommodate the audio format. The VLC player however does not have a license to Dolby Vision. It will play HDR/HLG with Dolby Atmos, but it does not have the license to output Dolby Vision like you have on Netflix. This is all speculation as it will actually need testing.
Yes it is working perfectly for Dolby Atmos that's the first video I played in the surround sound section 10:04 look at the receivers display. What he should know is that on this box certain media players give different results. I got Dolby Atmos when using the MX player.

Yes 4TB HDD via USB 3.0 Yes plays Dolby Atmos / DD+ / Dolby Sur / Dolby TrueHD / DTS Neural X. No DTS HD-MA and DTS-X Not sure about the BD file I don't use those sorry.

why are you trying dolby DTS through VLC player and dolby atmos through MX player. Have you tried everything through MX player when dolby atmos also works there. Maybe VLC does not process DTS and mx player does
Not all the formats are working to the MX player or the VLC player. You're better off using Kodi nexus is what I discovered recently with settings set to expert expert, audio channels set the 7.1, and audio passthrough enabled with all surround sound audio below enable

With this box, it will detect and play data such as videos images and music off of external storage such as HDD. Even copy and paste is a function. However, to execute/install APKs you will have to copy the file to its internal storage and execute using its internal file browser. I prefer this box's performance over the fire TV stick.

@@tvboxstop on latest Beta build 3696 - Homatics Box R 4K Plus 1. fixed the issue of the pressing the "device preference->storage->cached data"can't clean the cached data isssue. 2. fixed the dobly truthHD can't output the correct format under the AUTO mode. 3. delete the menu "smart control" which is not wrongly put there before. 4. correct the typo, passthrough with the letter R missing. 5. live tv when apk recording issue, when the device in standby mode, recording will be going under standby mode. 6. added the double click on home button will revoke the recent tasks function. 7. added the LED light switch with the whitebox LED light control functions. 8 fixed the issue that Anker soundbar no sound when connected to the box. 9, added the latest google security patch.
There is no reason why Real Debrid wouldn't work as it's installed inside Kodi and Kodi is available on the Play Store. Sycler on the other hand can be installed via APK but my advice would be to copy the APK to the box's internal storage and install it from there as some certified models tend to block the installation of external APKs. I have not experienced that on this model but if you encounter any issues that's what you have to do.
Hi sorry for taking the tree weeks to answer your question. I just connected to my living room TV that features Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos and I can confirm that in Netflix you get Dolby vision, Dolby Atmos, and HDR. So this box is indeed an official Google certified streaming device with the right hardware.

If the apps you are using are compatible with Android TV OS then it would work fine. If they are more suited to the mobile version of Android, then you will have some navigation issues with the remote.
OK true, but that will be for those where the Nvidia shield is available with low shipping costs. This company is based in the East so shipping is a lot lower for those looking for a certified Android TV device.

Most of the time on Android TV OS you can't. What you have to do is install the app from the play store called Sideload Launcher and add that app as a shortcut. What this does is list all your sideload applications in a window.

No it's not. What some people don't understand is that the manufacturers develop SOC's based on certain versions of Android. So the new versions of hardware will only be compatible with Android 11 or 12 and not backwards compatible
If i search for this box on the official website it says it only has 2GB ram.. how comes yours has 4Gb ram? Also how did you get Geekbench and Antutu to work?as this device is supposed to be limited only to work with 32bit apps? Please need answers
This model is currently sold out and they are taking preorders for the second batch using the link in my description. Also Antutu and Geekbench 5 are not 64bit apps. You can sideload them easily by first copying the APKs to its download folder, and executing the installs from there. There is a block installing APKs directly from external storage. You can also sideload APK app stores using the same process, and was installed the APK app stores will install all your APKs for you without issues.
@@tvboxstop I couldn't get Antutu and geekbench to work on the Nvidia Shield (tube) 2019. I did sideload geekbench and antutu and installed them fine but when opening the apps i couldn't do anything, even used a mouse pointer but no response to start the benchmarks🫤

Does this have passtrough of TrueHD and DTS-HD MA trough PLEX?
Yes it has HDMI pass-through for TrueHD however it's not processing DTS HD-MA and DTS X. I cannot say for sure if it passes through PLEX as I'm not a Plex user.

If you play a self hosted Dolby vision video through Kodi the video will play smoothly but it will not activate the Dolby vision feature on your TV. However if you have full access to Netflix through Kodi and you have an HD or 4K account I am still not sure if it will activate a Dolby vision on your TV. Reason being Kodi itself needs to have Dolby certification to access the Dolby vision feature on your TV. That is why Dolby vision is only activated on your TV when you use the official Netflix apps and others. With that said this box does activate the Dolby vision feature on your TV using the official streaming apps only.

Hi Yes Downloader is available on the Play Store. It installs without issues and it works well with the included remote to navigate the browser with the on-screen cursor and to enter search phrases.

Interesting and attractive product. Thank you for the thorough review. A few things: The Homatics site lists the price of the Box R 4K Plus as $150 US as of today. Also, I see there's a 4k (non-Plus) model that is available for pre-order at $90 US. While the non-Plus model features 8gb instead of 32gb storage, unlike the Plus model it DOES have a micro-SD card slot. Otherwise, same processor but no Dolby Atmos, etc. One other thing I noticed: power supply is 12v, not 5v. I often run my Android TV boxes off a 5v power bank or common USB power supply. The 12v requirement means this won't be the replacement for my aging Mi Box S.
Yes you are correct as the have some variation models to suit your price and hardware requirements. Also you need to be careful with that power requirement as the jack is the size and fit of other models of 5V 2A so you can end up damaging your unit as I nearly did one time.

Great video. I just had a quick question. Why not try using Coreelec media player to test audio formats? For instance, I have a Beelink GT Pro which when I use Coreelec it plays All lossless and lossy audio files ( passthrough to my Yamaha receiver). But Kodi, VLC and the native Movie player will only play some audio files ( no TrueHD Atmos). The only tv media boxes that will passthrough all audio formats are the Zidoo Z9x, Nvidea Shield tv and Amlogic tv boxes using Coreelec.
I am quite sure that CoreElec will allow the passthrough of these formats however LOL the new this there is no microSD card port?
You forgot about Dune and Zappiti, which all share the same RTD1619DR CPU. I own the Dune and while these are amazing for local media, there streaming is limited as they are not fully certified and use AOSP. I only get UHD HDR with TH-cam and that's only because it's using a non official TH-cam app.
Most streaming boxes don't do DTS because Dolby won the streaming wars so it's not worth the licensing to most.. Below is from the Zidoo forums. It's a shame because all three support WineVine. They also support more Dolby Vision profiles and let you choose between STD (display led) and LLDV (player led) as STD is better for video content like movies.
One question, were you able to test Atmos embedded in a Dolby TrueHD signal? Atmos isn't technically a format. It's object based metadata embedded into a DD+ (lossy) or Dolby TrueHD (lossless) signal. All streaming services use DD+ and typically only support Dolby Vision Profile 5 and 8 which are both LLDV and can't read dual layers like Profile 7, which is what UHD disks use. The Dune supports Dolby Vision Profile 4, 5, 7, 8 and I believe 9 (Dolby has made DV WAY too complicated). For example, Kodi can playback a UHD ISO file but only in HDR. UHD disks have a second 1080p layer with the DV profile 7 info and players like the Shield can't play ISO files in DV. Vanilla HDR is on the UHD layer so that's why you only get HDR. These 3 players are probably the best players for local media but they are terrible for streaming services. The below is what you will get with all 3 of those players. The VS10 engine is amazing but it doesn't work with the android streaming services, only the native Linux player does for local media. They are not Google certified and come with APKPure and not Google Play.

Hello, thank you very much for the video. I have a question. In my case, I have my Blu-ray ISO files backed up on an external hard drive. Is this TV box capable of playing these files from an external hard drive, just like the old Asus O!Play used to do? Thank you very much in advance.
Even though it is a certified model it all boils down to what decoders are needed to decode the ISO format. I have never done it before because the file sizes involved are too large to download. From what I read the VLC player is capable of reading the ISO file, and I guess its certification with Dolby license should accommodate the audio format. The VLC player however does not have a license to Dolby Vision. It will play HDR/HLG with Dolby Atmos, but it does not have the license to output Dolby Vision like you have on Netflix. This is all speculation as it will actually need testing.

Yes it is working perfectly for Dolby Atmos that's the first video I played in the surround sound section 10:04 look at the receivers display. What he should know is that on this box certain media players give different results. I got Dolby Atmos when using the MX player.

why are you trying dolby DTS through VLC player and dolby atmos through MX player. Have you tried everything through MX player when dolby atmos also works there. Maybe VLC does not process DTS and mx player does
Not all the formats are working to the MX player or the VLC player. You're better off using Kodi nexus is what I discovered recently with settings set to expert expert, audio channels set the 7.1, and audio passthrough enabled with all surround sound audio below enable

With this box, it will detect and play data such as videos images and music off of external storage such as HDD. Even copy and paste is a function. However, to execute/install APKs you will have to copy the file to its internal storage and execute using its internal file browser. I prefer this box's performance over the fire TV stick.

There is no reason why Real Debrid wouldn't work as it's installed inside Kodi and Kodi is available on the Play Store. Sycler on the other hand can be installed via APK but my advice would be to copy the APK to the box's internal storage and install it from there as some certified models tend to block the installation of external APKs. I have not experienced that on this model but if you encounter any issues that's what you have to do.

I just connected to my living room TV that features Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos and I can confirm that in Netflix you get Dolby vision, Dolby Atmos, and HDR. So this box is indeed an official Google certified streaming device with the right hardware.

If the apps you are using are compatible with Android TV OS then it would work fine. If they are more suited to the mobile version of Android, then you will have some navigation issues with the remote.

Most of the time on Android TV OS you can't. What you have to do is install the app from the play store called Sideload Launcher and add that app as a shortcut. What this does is list all your sideload applications in a window.

No it's not. What some people don't understand is that the manufacturers develop SOC's based on certain versions of Android. So the new versions of hardware will only be compatible with Android 11 or 12 and not backwards compatible

This model is currently sold out and they are taking preorders for the second batch using the link in my description. Also Antutu and Geekbench 5 are not 64bit apps. You can sideload them easily by first copying the APKs to its download folder, and executing the installs from there. There is a block installing APKs directly from external storage. You can also sideload APK app stores using the same process, and was installed the APK app stores will install all your APKs for you without issues.

I did sideload geekbench and antutu and installed them fine but when opening the apps i couldn't do anything, even used a mouse pointer but no response to start the benchmarks🫤
