Companies are clinging to obsolete port standards such as 10/100 Fast Ethernet and USB 2.0. Those two standards should have been phased out years ago. No excuse for these types of devices to not have at the bare minimum USB 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet ports. At least this box has a USB 3 0 port.

I used to have a Roku streaming Stick and it would get really hot to the touch so I would unplug it when not in use because it concerned me. Also thanks for the video I'm trying to decide whether to buy one of these or not. I just found out on another video that this pro version runs cool!😊

They told me they had them in the back but would not sell me one. That kind of crap is that??
I've used each generation of ONN box (not that awful stick) and this is my favorite. It's a seemingly small thing, but I really like that someone got a clue and put ALL the ports on the rear of the device and made it look better. It just fits nicely now where I have it, rather than the previous design having HDMI and power on opposite sides of the device- it was such terrible placement. Love that this has ethernet and dedicated USB 3 port. The only issue I had was initial setup. I don't know why, but I've just never had any luck setting these things up through Google Home as they recommend. On previous ONN boxes, it would just fail and never set the box up. On this one, the setup through GH worked- but there were strange irregularities. Like it defaulted to some sort of highly limited mode- I couldn't click into settings. NONE of the voice features worked. I finally had to factory reset it and do the setup on-screen, and everything works great. This has been a great device and the family is already used to using these.
I just got a small question. I guess I’m a little slow when it comes to certain things like this. It looks like it would be great. I would love to have one, but you still have to keep your Internet on or can you do without your Internet or Wi-Fi with this.

Can it be used offline after the initial setup if you're playing videos from the USB port? Basically, could you take it to a hotel and use it as a media player without connecting it to wifi?
Is this faster than the $20 Onn box? I have one of those and it’s very laggy for me when navigating the screens and opening/closing apps. I’m overall disappointed it, but I guess I can’t complain for $20.
Sounds like an animation issue. Reduce it to .5 or turn it off all together. Might want to use a custom launcher as well. That being said and to answer your question it is definitely faster. Better CPU, More ram (always improves performance) and more storage (also helps).
What internet speed do you pay for? I am wondering if it is possible to get 800 plus Mbps using a usb to gigabit Ethernet adapter. 16 Gb storage, gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.0 port would make much more sense than the combination on this device.
Great stuff, Melvin. Very detailed and exhaustive presentation. It would be a good idea to share your recording hardware, if you wish. I am one of the guys who is curious. The fact that extra usb drive can increase the storage to install apps is a great feature. I have Tivo and is restricted by space. So i will be interested in this device. Also how did you record the TV screen?
Great video that benchmark told me that we should wait and see what google is going to bring to the table. This device is more of a plus then a pro device after see this video thnaks this helped me out a lot
The Operating System alone makes it better than any amazon device. Comes with only a 10/100 LAN port BUT can purchase an external 3.0 USB dongle 10/100/1000 to make it 1GB
I have a Fire Cube and I have never come close to running out of storage. I have been using it for at least 3 years and have never had a storage problem.
@@lamb88ertSame rules apply to the 3rd gen fire cube's similar Ethernet port. I got a 3.0 USB Gigabit Ethernet hub hooked up to it and I'm getting increased speeds as well.
@@Triple_Mah, but what CODECS are supported? Because sbc is low quality, and many Android devices do not support aptx, and maybe ldac if lucky. Also, what's the CPU and RAM? These devices half the time are using super outdated specs that only meet the bare minimum for limited 4k, and some 4k services don't work at all. Onn has done this before btw, so the track record isn't stellar.
Do you need a Google TV to use this my daughter's disabled on a very small income we're trying to figure out the cheapest way for her to get her entertainment the internet but what's a good system for people who are disabled on a very limited income
No you don't need a "Google TV". You can connect this to any TV that has an hdmi port which in this day and age they all do. I bought a regular onn stick (not 4k) for $14.99 for my mom's "dumb" samsung TV from 2009. Works great, and now she can watch her favorite TH-cam cooking channels on the tv. Hope this helps. Ps. You do need to have or create a Google account. Which is easily done online.
Do the mute lights stay on all the time or can you turn them off if you just don't want to use the hands free voice assistant or you place this under your TV?
The ONN devices prior to this model have a big problem... it is their remote control that continually loses the link, it is deconfigured with the device and you have to configure it frequently, which happens to people who don't know about technology, it's already a big problem.
Can you tell me how good the wireless internet is on it on the Onn 4K Pro meaning I have a TV out in my detached garage in my router is inside my house just curious as to how far it will reach the wireless internet do you know anything about that?
Can it read and WRITE to an usb drive formatted in exfat? I want a streaming box that can do both so i can download large videos directly from the device.
@@Triple_M I am finally seeing them coming into stores . Luckily the Walkart closest to me happens to have some . I'll be picking up one in the morning , gonna compare it to my Firestick 4k Max

Anybody having trouble with soundbar pairing? Mine pairs ok but it doesn't power off with the tv when I hit the power button on the remote. I have to manually turn it off. Volume controls work fine. BTW - great video I saved it for future reference.
Thanks for that link .What I actually need is the link for the single black Ethernet adapter that you used in the video to plug in the Ethernet cable into the back of the box that was giving you the speeds over 400 Mbps. If you could post that link it would be appreciated.
I'm a new subscriber who enjoyed this review. I have the 1st Google Onn and was about to replace it with a Fire Stick 4K Max, because there are some things I don't like about it; like disabling my Flix Vision or not able to install other 3rd Party Apps, but it looks like they're more open to allowing this. I like quite a few new features that you displayed; so, I think I'll try the Pro. Thanks for sharing this info.
@@Triple_MI really like this one. It addressed the issues I had, like the storage space. Now I have no problem installing 3rd Party Apps and them not being disabled later. I still made the adjustment in security that Troypoint suggested. I have more than enough to watch between Google, Kodi and 3rd Party Apps-with 19 GB remaining. I also like how quick and smooth it moves through apps and functions. The wired connection has removed the buffering in Kodi Live. Troypoint said you only need a 25 download speed to run the Fire Stick; so, I guess the Ethernet connecting at a 100 speed is taking care of the buffering in Kodi. Although, I did have to go back and forth with connecting and disconnecting wired and wireless and connecting and disconnecting my VPN. I finally got it to work with good results being Ethernet connected with VPN. Enjoying the other added features too. Thanks again for your review, it stopped me from switching back to Fire Stick before trying this new version of Onn.
@@Triple_M Thank you. I also thought that the remote was backlit? I saw other early reviews about this. And and showed it with a remote that lights up.
Please put a warning way ahead of time on any products you are reviewing where you say the trigger word to activate your and potentially anyone else's personal assistant.
when i plug my usb into my hub and into the back of my box it does nothing is there a setting because it's driving me crazi i tried everything and mines won't reckonize?
So I have all the othered on the benchmark and then some. But with the talk of Amazon stopping the side loading on the firedevices I might give it a go just for tv apps.
I would think that it would be just as good. They're both 4k. But I think the Apple device caters to Apple users. This product seems to focus on Android users. The Network Interface Card (NIC) seems a little low for today's technology. But if it can do 4K, I would choose this one and save some money Hope you find this useful.

Can it be used offline after the initial setup if you're playing videos from the USB port? Basically, could you take it to a hotel and use it as a media player without connecting it to wifi?
Sure, as long as you have a USB Stick loaded with your content
@@dgperforms1 thank you. I got mind this week and figured it out.
Could you let us know or link which USB ethernet adapter you used. I know most will probably work, but its good to know which one you tested.
Thanks
You don’t need a USB to Ethernet adapter, it has a 1 Gb port built in.
@@philiprobar It's only 10/100
Wonder if remote will control volume on soundbar ?
Yes, it should. That’s all done in the setup.
Is it still hit or miss on boxed remotes? Seem they have 3. The best one is back lighted.
What internet speed do you pay for? I am wondering if it is possible to get 800 plus Mbps using a usb to gigabit Ethernet adapter. 16 Gb storage, gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.0 port would make much more sense than the combination on this device.
For some reason it doesn't support Sling TV unless you sideload it. Hopefully it's because it's still new and Google will catch up with it soon.
That’s weird!! I’ll double check some other devices to see if sling was pulled from Google play.
@@Triple_M my old Onn box received a Sling TV update today so I looked for it on the new box in the Play store again and it's there now. 👍🏻
Is it come with the internet chrome browser ?
Great stuff, Melvin. Very detailed and exhaustive presentation. It would be a good idea to share your recording hardware, if you wish. I am one of the guys who is curious.
The fact that extra usb drive can increase the storage to install apps is a great feature. I have Tivo and is restricted by space. So i will be interested in this device.
Also how did you record the TV screen?
Your external USB Ethernet device you used. Which one was that? Did the USB power it up, or did you use a a charging cord like the Firestick uses.
The usb powered it up. It is the urgreen adapter. I’ll see if I can send you a link.
Great video that benchmark told me that we should wait and see what google is going to bring to the table. This device is more of a plus then a pro device after see this video thnaks this helped me out a lot
Yes, I was a bit surprised at the scores as well.
thanks for the review.
A question: does it support NTFS and/or exFAT? or jus FAT32... thanks!!!
I will check and let you know.
@@Triple_Mfollowing, please respond.
Whats this for ? What does it replace ??
I like mu 2023 onn. Is it worth to upgrade? On your test the Ethernet seems useless.
I would say no if you are happy with what you currently have. But if you are in the market, this a great device to have.
@@jleechadwicknot storage. The comment is in regards to Internet speed
@@lamb88ertSame rules apply to the 3rd gen fire cube's similar Ethernet port. I got a 3.0 USB Gigabit Ethernet hub hooked up to it and I'm getting increased speeds as well.
10/100 is more that good enough for streaming 4K video.
It's also wifi 6 which is plenty fast already for streaming.
Does this have the actual Play Store.?
Is there an Internet app? Can you download any app to it, like Kodi or is it limited to apps of their own?
You can download any app including 3rd party apps.
Do you have access to local channels?
I’ll check
Does this have the bluetooth headphones option for quiet tv listening
Yes, you can connect bt headphones
@@Triple_Mah, but what CODECS are supported? Because sbc is low quality, and many Android devices do not support aptx, and maybe ldac if lucky. Also, what's the CPU and RAM? These devices half the time are using super outdated specs that only meet the bare minimum for limited 4k, and some 4k services don't work at all. Onn has done this before btw, so the track record isn't stellar.
Does this support Atmos TrueHD and DTSX:MA?
If connected with HDMI to a computer monitor with no audio output, can we get audio from the box built in speakers itself?
It has issues moving data if you format storage for internal use..
Does it? I’ll test out
Definitely liking the specs except the 10/100 ethernet port. If it was 1000 mbps it would be next to the nvidia shield
But the shield is four times the price
@@Triple_M thats true. I might just get two of them as a back to my shields
Have you ever exceeded 100mbps streaming video?
~25 Mb is all that is needed for streaming 4K video.
Where i can buy it. Thanks🙏
Check description
What’s the item you used the little usb extender ? Where can I buy
Sorry for the late reply, here is the link amzn.to/3wWcRN9
@@Triple_M thank you for the information- I appreciate your reply -
Do the mute lights stay on all the time or can you turn them off if you just don't want to use the hands free voice assistant or you place this under your TV?
subscribed when i saw your air mouse, really neat!
The ONN devices prior to this model have a big problem... it is their remote control that continually loses the link, it is deconfigured with the device and you have to configure it frequently, which happens to people who don't know about technology, it's already a big problem.
Does it have the TH-cam AV1 encoding?
I’ll check
The CPU is the Amlogic S905X4 which has support for AV1
Have you tried testing the USB to Ethernet connection from the USB hub and not directly into the device? If so what kind of speed did you get?
Great video btw. Very good tests.
Can you tell me how good the wireless internet is on it on the Onn 4K Pro meaning I have a TV out in my detached garage in my router is inside my house just curious as to how far it will reach the wireless internet do you know anything about that?
Any ideas for it too work in Ireland keeps saying restricted region
Where can I purchase it ? They’re out of stock in store and online.
Yeah, just keep checking. Also, check inventory in your area
I have a xiaomi tv box and I love it. This type of android tv devices are so good!
How do u get one
Can it read and WRITE to an usb drive formatted in exfat? I want a streaming box that can do both so i can download large videos directly from the device.
Hi, how about a performance comparison with the Google Chromecast with Google TV
I can't find this available anywhere ? Just the regular plain black plastic style 4k box ... Weird
Yeah, they’re sold out
@@Triple_M I am finally seeing them coming into stores . Luckily the Walkart closest to me happens to have some . I'll be picking up one in the morning , gonna compare it to my Firestick 4k Max
great review! having had quality issues with the previous Onn streaming box, I'll look forward to your follow up review after you've used it for a while. and thanks for the info on the wireless mouse/keyboard combos....
What issues you had. I had none. Please share.
Can the volume be set to change the TV volume instead of the devise volume?
Please what about audio spouting dts master audio true hd?
Does sound come out of the unit when you are watching something? This would be a great device for one of my computer monitor without speakers.
I plan on making follow up video on this.
Anybody having trouble with soundbar pairing? Mine pairs ok but it doesn't power off with the tv when I hit the power button on the remote. I have to manually turn it off. Volume controls work fine.
BTW - great video I saved it for future reference.
Can you provide a link for the external usb adaptor that you used?
I got you - amzn.to/3wqGMwW
Thanks for that link .What I actually need is the link for the single black Ethernet adapter that you used in the video to plug in the Ethernet cable into the back of the box that was giving you the speeds over 400 Mbps. If you could post that link it would be appreciated.

why 10/100 MB ethernet port? why?
I'm a new subscriber who enjoyed this review. I have the 1st Google Onn and was about to replace it with a Fire Stick 4K Max, because there are some things I don't like about it; like disabling my Flix Vision or not able to install other 3rd Party Apps, but it looks like they're more open to allowing this. I like quite a few new features that you displayed; so, I think I'll try the Pro. Thanks for sharing this info.
Let me know how you like it.
Can you please do a video with music playing over the speaker?
I can
@@Triple_M Thank you. I also thought that the remote was backlit? I saw other early reviews about this. And and showed it with a remote that lights up.

I did on the follow up video.
In the firestick u have to disable a couple of settings. Is there any settings on the onn that we have to disable?
Which settings are you referring to?
Privacy related stuff. Like "do not sell my personal info"
when i plug my usb into my hub and into the back of my box it does nothing is there a setting because it's driving me crazi i tried everything and mines won't reckonize?
Looking for a streamer for my RV that is 12 or 5 volts. What is the voltage of the new onn?
It’s 12 volts
So can you pick up local channels from other states?
Is the netflix on this one going to work in Nigeria? The netflix on amazon's firestick doesn't work in nigeria.
Good review. May want to reduce the "go ahead's".
Can you delete all of the apps or use downloader..to install apps? Thanks!
That’s also what I want to know.
Not available in UK at the mo
So I have all the othered on the benchmark and then some. But with the talk of Amazon stopping the side loading on the firedevices I might give it a go just for tv apps.
The news came a long time ago right ?
Is there any update related to it about removing the other app installing/side loading?
Is the new onn streaming device better then the Apple 4K streaming device? Please tell me ASAP
I would think that it would be just as good. They're both 4k. But I think the Apple device caters to Apple users. This product seems to focus on Android users. The Network Interface Card (NIC) seems a little low for today's technology. But if it can do 4K, I would choose this one and save some money Hope you find this useful.
I was planning to buy G Chromecast 4k tv, but now, I am looking for an alternative. :) guess the G is a bit out of date. Glade to know.
🎉 Question 🎊
Will An OTA Dongle Work On This Device To Get OTA Channels and Hopefully Integrate Into Channel Guide and Picture In Picture Features ???
Thanks For The Awesome Reviews..
If you have a tablo, will the channels appear under live TV?
don't use built in Lan use a USB adapter to plug a 1 gig adaptor
can install a hard drive as well to backup movies
Why not use the built in NIC?
@@philiprobar because its slow and you really need the 1 gig connection especially when using back loaded apps
