Since 1988, Cannibal Corpse have been at the forefront of death metal, shaping and defining the genre, creating a seminal, incomparable body of work over the following decades. In 2021 they raised the stakes again with their 15th album, Violence Unimagined, growing ever more complex and intense, and in 2023 they return with its successor, the equally monstrous Chaos Horrific, starting a new chapter in their legacy. Written shortly after the conclusion of the Violence Unimagined sessions (due to the pandemic keeping them off tour), echoes of that album exist in Chaos Horrific, but this is a whole new beast of its own. I sat down with bassist Alex Webster to discuss the album and much more!

A historic moment: "Hammer Smashed Face" belonged to a number of Cannibal Corpse titles, that were banned to be performed in Germany for many years. In 2007 Corpsegrinder and his fellow band mates finally were allowed to bring this madness on stage - with no better place than the 18th edition of Wacken Open Air to do so!

Alex Webster is the Geddy Lee of death metal: he's humble, approachable, appreciates his fans and will take the time to talk to them/sign autographs, above all, though, like Geddy Lee, he's the legendary bass player of a legendary band. I'm always psyched for new Cannibal Corpse. Have been since 1996. 🤘😎🤘
Thanks for sharing that!
Hail @nickfoster9350 for recognizing the legend that is Geddy Lee! And in comparison to Alex Webster. Extreme opposites on the music spectrum, but both incredible bands in their own right.
I've met Alex a thousand times by now. And the reason is he's mostly the only one who takes the time to connect with fans. Always enjoy exchanging a few words with him.
thanks for sharing that!
Absolutely the best interview ever! Thank you so much for this!
@@tommyandrews4992 thanks! I hope you'll like other interviews on the channel as well!
Opened for Cannibal in 93? Alex took the time to talk the realities of musician life with us when we were young upstarts. Never forgot the honesty with which he spoke and his demeanor. Class act
Was lucky and met George Fisher after a show in a bar that was near the venue. The dude was super humble and a big nerd of music and gaming, in a good way. Every story you hear of anyone who runs into these guys is very positive.
Said this before so many times: Alex comes across as the nicest guy and seems articulate and intelligent. He's also a totally badass bassist
Agreed, agreed, and agreed!
Alex is such a humble dude.. Lots of great insight.
He was a pleasure to talk to for sure!
Realest person in death metal. Always has been, always will be. Alex and of course good ole Danny lilker
🤘🤘🤘
Cannibal Corpse are like the AC/DC of death metal lol. Nothing ever really changes, they stick to the same formula but still come up with original, awesome music. Instantly identifiable, too. I personally am a drummer, but I've always been drawn to and been a fan of Alex Webster. He's always been my favorite member of Cannibal.
Thanks for sharing that 👊
I had the privilege of meeting and talking with Alex on the CC tour bus around 2001. He is by far the nicest, warmest, most humble musician I've ever met. His kindness was disarming as I was expecting a stern and slightly-morose Death Metal Guy and instead got an intelligent, soft-spoken, engaging conversationalist who treated everyone with dignity and respect. I got to meet Paul and George as well (but not Ringo or John 😢). All of them are class acts. And Cannibal Corpse will forever be legends.
👊👊👊
Man, I camp full-time and was in Oregon this year. I would have lost my mind to have ran into Alex out in the woods.
:) that would be fun!
Sasquatch would hit him up for an autograph!
I would be waiting in line right behind him, nibbling on some trail mix trying to keep myself from being such a gushing fanboy...lol.
Alex Webster is a super cool guy.
Iron Maiden and Cannibal Corpse. Yes.
@@saltpeter7429 🤘😁
If I could pick a band to hang out with the members, it would definitely be Cannibal Corpse
🤘🤘
Album is absolutely fantastic.
🤘🤘
I met Alex one time as he was walking into the Mohawk in Austin, it was a passing meet as he was trying to make his way inside but he was kind enough to stop, shake our hands and wish us a good evening. Class act.
👊👊👊
Vince Locke is an amazing artist. I'm still awaiting to get my painting sent here and cannot wait. Definitely is the best artist for the job of CC.
👊👊👊
CC and Opeth are my fav metal bands. Both different, both incredible.
🤘🤘🤘
Wish all musicians were like him. He is incredibly skilled, but lets it just show through his performance. Also, speaks so articulately and passionately answers questions.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I had a chat and took photos for people with him up near the stage at Brisbane Arena for the kill tour in Australia. Being a big Cannibal Corps fan growing growing up I thought it was a surreal moment. He seemed real happy to be chatting with everyone after the show
Thanks for sharing that memory!
Crazy good interview!! And Alex you're a legend .
Thank you!
Great video!!
Thank you so much for this great interview!
I've always been a fan of behind the scenes stuff like this.
CANNIBAL CORPSE!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you!
Massively underrated bass player.
🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
He's the most famous member of the most famous death metal band. People who don't know what metal even is, know who Cannibal Corpse is. "Underrated" would be some guy in a local band with no money to release a CD because like 9 people show up to his gigs and he's gotta worry about paying for bills and a car and diapers for his kid first before pressing merch. You're a goose.
Alex is so chill and down to earth.
🤘🤘
Ive met Alex twice now and both times he couldnt possibly have been more down to earth. Talked to me for over an hour like we had been friends for years. He even remembered me from the first time I met him. An absolute encyclopedia of knowledge and the most fun person to talk to. Words don't do this man justice.
Thanks for sharing those memories!!
Great interview 🔥
Thanks!
Killer interview!
Thanks!
Thank you, good questions, great guest!
Thanks!
Alex is my idol, met him few times, and he's such a down to earth guy.
👊👊👊
Great interview Jasper. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Great interview, can´t wait for that 40th anniversary haha 🤘🤘
Thanks!
Great interview, interesting questions that most interviewers wouldn't even think of.
Thanks for sharing that 🤘
Great interview!!!!!! Alex is the best!!!!
Thanks!! 🤘
Well done on a great interview man. Asked some really interesting questions. Alex must be an easy guy to interview
Thanks! He's definitely very easy to talk to 🤘
American death Metal,, Is The Heaviest and the most exquisite Bar none Because of Bands like Cannibal Corpse ! We absolutely want that reputation to Continue!! Sopprt the American legacy Death Metal !!!!
KEEP UPPP PUTTING OUT AWESOME HEAVY METAL MUSIC!!! I MYSELF AM 72 AND I REALLY LOVE YOUR MUSIC... I'M A BASS PLAYER MYSELF...
AleX is like the Steve Harris of Death Metal.
Cannibal Corpse and Iron Maiden are in my short list of greatest metal bands ever.
Great music, continuous output, legendary live shows, consistency of " sound" while always sounding like themselves...
I could listen to Alex Webster all day.
🤘🤘🤘
One of the best bassists on planet Earth and a fucking quality human being-love ya Alex🤘🏻
💯
Alex is a national treasure
My mother gave me a "Best of Queen" CD in 1996, I was 9, That solidified my love for Rock N Roll... I 2001 at age 14 I went to my 1st show: Ozzfest! Not long after I saw footage of Dimebag, from PanterA play a Gig on T.V, It blew me away! I Bought an Electric Guitar and started learning the ropes... (Lots of Nirvana for starters), here I am, 22 years later.. a Die Hard Metal Fan and Guitarist/Musician...making my own Metal / Death Metal Tracks, recording/Mixing...ECT, now, I just play a lot Heavier and faster.. Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura, Fear Factory, PanterA....for some. I have progressed well.. Rock N Roll will never Die, Long live the 6-string! 🤘🏻
Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
Yes art work and lyrics do bring controversy but their talent speaks volumes to who they are as a legend in the industry 🤘
🤘🤘🤘
Alex is such a cool dude man! He'll go back to the stage after the show finished to shake hands and talk to Cannibal fans, he rules!!
🤘🤘🤘
I met Alex and Rob in El Paso in 2014 and hung out at the bus for awhile. Super cool dudes. A lot of times it's cooler to just hang out with the band, rather than listen to the music and see the show. Even though the music rules too.
That's awesome 🤘
Great Interview, actually letting him answer the questions. Nice. Seems a good dude, but a beast of a bass player.
Great to see these dudes still ripping...I remember them in the late 80s when I was dedicated metal head...don't think I'm going into the mosh pits tho.... great presentation
🤘🤘🤘
The sheer talent and dedication from these guys putting out 16 horror albums for us to enjoy....words can't even describe the amount of respect and appreciation I have for this band. I have never seen them, or any other band live, but I'm a huge fan of their music since I found out about them around Gore Obsessed. May Cannibal Corpse continue on toward metal godhood...
👊👊👊
I've always found his bass sound and Korn's Fieldy's bass sound to be the most instantly recognizable on a heavy record. Both those tones work so well with super low, massive distortion guitars.
🤘
I’m the same way as Alex. All the music from the 80’s I can remember but the new stuff now I’m aware but not able to retain. Damn being in my mid 50’s. Saw cannibal corpse for the first time in ‘89, been a fan ever since.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Album release this Friday and then seeing then this Saturday here I’m Charlotte. Damn I can’t wait!!!
👊
I would suggest to Alex to jam the latest Obituary album “Dying of Everything”. It has become my favorite of theirs, and I have been into them since 1991. I saw them this past June, and every new song was killer live \m/
As an adult I respect this guy. He's a true professional. I've been a fan for almost 30 years! /,,/
👊👊👊
Fingers cross for "From skin to liquid" at the show!
🤘
Alex Webster - the Barrister of Metal!
I fell asleep in a cannibal corpse mosh pit in the early 90's ,thats how tired i was ,trying to get to the concert ,guy with a big mask was yelling 4 feet from my head & big huge dudes were shoulder checking me ,left & right & i could barely even stay awake ,good times i used to have when i was younger 😂 😅
😁😁😁
Cool to hear Alex give a shoutout to Undeath and Frozen Soul. Real recognize real. 🤝🤘
👊👊👊
Insane, Because when I first heard undeath I was reminded of the Barnes Era of Cannibal! You can really feel the influence. Good shit
Good interview.
Thanks!
These guys are the AC/DC of death metal , love em.
👊👊👊
Total respect 🤘
👊
CANNIBAL CORPSE FOREVER! WRAGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Paul is also a totally cool guy! I'd love to hang out with all of these guys along with the guys in Obituary!
🤘🤘🤘
I'm so glad this dude is so cool.

October 15th, baby.... GET HERE!
🤘🤘🤘
This guys is awesome
🤘
Nice shoutout to frozen soul!
🤘🤘
Such a great band
👊
What an awesome dude
It's crazy to hear him talk about how Cannibal Corpse being 35 years old and how Heavy Metal itself had only been around arguably 25 years at that point and then realizing the first time I met Alex Webster 27 years ago when I was 12 years old.
As far as listening to newer bands and retaining their music and knowing the song titles etc. I tend to use Apple Music as well but I download the albums themselves and listen to them start to finish. Especially if I am really digging what I'm hearing I make a point to look at the titles as the album progresses because I discovered I was kind of doing what Alex is describing and zoning out and not really retaining anything.
Digital is just different. It was one thing when I would flip through the booklet in a cassette or a CD, now it's not really like that.
There is one image, being the cover and then you have to actively seek out information about bands yourself and at the end of the day do you actually care that much as an adult or have that kind of free time? In my case, I'm 39, have a career, kids, all of that. It's a different world then it was when I was in Middle School discovering Death Metal, or Grade School discovering Metal in analog with physical copies with band photos with all their names, song titles, lyrics and thanks lists.
Thanks for sharing that with us!
Love this Band! Please support them
👊
Let's support fckng Death Metal!

born in the 60s, here is what it looks like
re-recorded classic cc hits with george, its have been perfect gift for 35 years of band.
Alex is just so great.

Webster is God, killer interview 🤘
🤘🤘🤘🤘
🖤🤘
You'd never think this guy is apart of the most brutal band ever lol, he's so chill
🤣
How bout a "past, present, future" show...Corpse (past), Cattle Decapitation (present) and Lorna Shore (future)
I saw them in 2006 in france, i was drunk af and acting like an idiot and were cocky with the band members after the show... and they act like gentlemen, very kind guys !
😅😅😅 thanks for sharing that memory!
@@BelgianJasper i can't tell the rest of the story cause it's wayyy more embarassing !

would like to ask a question to Alex . Is there other kind of music that you thrive to ?

If Death and Chuck schuldiner was still around, CANNIBAL would only be, 2nd best selling act.
I want his Apple Music username now lmao😭
😁😁😁
I miss Pat,and his influence on the band.
My band had the privilege to practice next to corpse in Tampa back in the late 90s early 2000s . Top notch guys from top to bottom!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼. Absolute legends!!
