Just a basic look over the Wild Country Terra Nova Zephyros 1 and our recently purchased Helm 1. We've been asked to receive our shelters in the past so here's a quick review and comparison of these 2 by Wild Country, if you have any questions or future gear review video please ask and we'll do our best to put something together for you as soon as we can.

I've got the Zepyros II (old model) and after seeing a particularly negative review on YT I was looking for others who like this tent. In my opinion, it's a good balance between features and price; quality brand's budget range. I wouldn't take it up Everest with me but then again, when was that EVER in my diary :-). As you two showed very well, you get a good tent for your money so thanks very much for that. Subbed.

Em and Stu ,I’m retiring in a month and hope to do some backpacking up the lakes ,I did the pennine way in 1977 in a van go make 2 LW cotton fly and inner (great tent back then ) but things have come on so much since .👍

I've owned the Helm 1 for about 6 months and found it very good so far.
Thank you for this video. I’ve got a Helm 3 which is great for me and 1 or 2 of the children, but I’m looking at getting a 1 man for bike packing. I was initially thinking the helm 1, but I think the size and weight savings of the zephyros are worth it and you’ve shown it’s still a great useful size. Thanks again
Thanks! They are both great tents depending on your requirements, the Zephyros is a great all rounder especially with it being so lightweight.. some say the sleeping space is a little tight but as u can see Stu is a big 6'3 guy and has never had a problem.. the Helm 1 gives you more sleeping space and height but porch area is smaller and of course its around 25% heavier..
I guess it really comes down to your personal priorities 👍
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu well I went with the Helm 1 in the end! I managed to pick up a new one on eBay with the footprint and a spare blue pole for £150. In the end it came down to which could I get for less!
Next year, I’m going to be doing a multi day tour so I’ll be looking for a tent with a really big porch like the Hoolie ETC or the Robens Pioneer.

Cheers guys, having not been camping for over 20 years I have been looking for a decent tent for the last 6 months but thanks to this review I am finally going for the Wild Country Helm 1.
Omg what a tent but to be honest the zephyros is just as good between both the zephyros is the best start off tent 👍😊

Comprehensive review there guys! I own and love my Terra Nova laser competition 1. It looks near identical to the Zephyros , just a bit lighter. The helm 1 looks a solid bit of kit, would be interested to see how well it performs in Wintertime. ATB Anthony

Can't beat a Terra Nova! I've been buying their tents since 1997 😂 I owned a Zephros 1 back when it first came out and used it from early spring to autumn before selling it on for a good price on eBay after I bought my polar lite 2 micro 👍🍺😎

Great video really useful thanks so much! Couple of questions, does the helm have noticeably more headroom when setting inside? Also i heard the helm inner can sag quite a lot did you find that is the case?
I would say yes, most people could comfortably sit up in the Helm unlike the Zephyros which is noticeably lower.. Being a fairly short woman I don't find it too much of a problem but with Stu being 6'3 I know it would be a little difficult to sit up in the Zephyros without hunching over. As for the Helm sagging I can't say we've noticed this being a problem. Hope that helps abit, any further questions please don't hesitate to ask 😊👍
Great vid gonna do some beach camping in the zephyros myself.can you tell me what sand stakes you use and where from.I'm in colchester so gonna be mersea st osyth etc.
Hi I'm Colchester too and we have done both places, we use aluminium sand ground stakes they're very good, got them off ebay I think for 6 £11.99 if that helps 😊
Looking to go on a backpacking trip through southeast Asia, starting in India and ending in Indonesia. Would either of these tents fair well in a hot climate? I was leaning towards getting the helm once it comes back in stock.
The tents are great in total but we would suggest the lanshan as its more ventilated in the heat in the cold it's not so good.... But if you setting up late and getting up early when it more cooler the helm will love it and you will love the helm... This is my personal opinion... And I stand by terra nova 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I know what you mean about cant get hold of a helm I have been looking for there new helm compact 1 but cant get one fingers crossed one will pop up! Not in a rush now as in isolation but wish they would make more! Great video!
Yes I believe they sold out very quickly once they were released, it seems to have been quite hard to get hold of most of the terra nova and wild country tents this year maybe the lockdown effected the production rates. Hopefully next year it will be abit easier. We've not been able to get out camping much this year either which has been a shame. 😞

I don't think that I would have the confidence to cook in the porch area of the Zephros 😢
We have had to do it a couple of times and not had any problems, it's actually quite spacious, but of course it's always better not to if u can get away with it..

Great review and nice comparison. However as far as the Zephros goes it leaves a lot to be desired in spec.. I recommend the Robens Starlight 1. or 2 Bomb proof 4 season tents.. for around a 100 quid... The bath tub on the Zephros has tiny walls.. and 4000hh Robens 10,000mm Basically a fucking canoe .. Stability tested to 170 kph...No brainer gezza...

Have you ever stayed in the helm 1 over night ? I’m 6 foot and it was way too small for me. Couldn’t lay down flat without my face being covered.
I love my helm 1 I'm 6ft 2 I don't have much of a problem... But I agree the inner tent does smother u abit lol its good but so is the zephyros 😊
Hey both! Great video.. Im actually looking at these 2 tents. Well the Zephyros 1 will be the new compact V2 that was 'upgraded' for 2020 and the only helm 1 I can get at the moment is the Helm compact 1. But without being picky they're basically those tents you have right there.
So, haha even tho you are impressed with both. If you could only have one which one would you choose? Going to be for the Peak District / Lake District / Wales / Scotland etc so thinking the helm 1 might be a little 'better' or 'stronger' with wind? Although ive spoke to people with the Zephyros 1 who have done the West Highland Way in crazy weather and been ok.

Hi Chris if I was to choose it would be the helm 1 only because its bigger ie hight its a really great tent my tent of choice if I'm honest but love them both all in different ways but it's up to you I know this is vague but there both so good... But I close my eyes now and say helm lol 😊
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu Haha cool.. THANK YOU!! I have had my heart set on a Zephyros 1 for a couple if months but didnt bother rushing to get it with the circumstances. But, saw the helm 1 and there are things I love about it which the Zephyros doesn't have. Think you have confirmed my mind lol. Might aswell get this helm while I can as I can alwsys get a Zephyros too at a later date I suppose as they're 'easier' to get hold of as you know.

What are you like lying down in the zephyros? I’m 6’2 so would be handy to know how you get on with it. I’m struggling to find a good lightweight tent for my height

How do you find the length stu of these two when you are sleeping? Can you stretch out without getting the inner flapping in your face?
There both brilliant I find them plenty of room highly recommended these two I'm 6ft 3 and that's saying something lol 😊

Have to agree the Helm 1 is like gold dust, can't find one anywhere. You would think Terra Nova would be knocking out as many as they could if there's such a demand.
I know it's such a reliable tent and spacious when you can get one I really would 😊
Zephyros needed the promotion, I guess.
It's really not a bad tent I quite like it but as you know tents are a matter of opinion what's your tent of choice 🙂
Anyone thinking of buying at the minute cotswolds outdoor are selling the Zephyros for £85 cheaper than anywhere else. Iv'e just ordered one after my msr elixir 2 badly let me down in the lake district 2 weeks ago (tore in the wind like tissue paper and snapped a pole spearing both inner and outer) .
We always joke about the msr we really don't rate them not at the price they are... The wild country tents are brilliant in our opinion... Its not everyones taste but we swear by them... Terra nova has a very good reputation and we stand by it... And the cost of £85 is just fantastic and defo go for it... Big cooking space easy to put up don't leak and plenty of room can't go wrong at all 😊👍
@@ExploringWithEmAndStu Funnily enough i always thought the msr would let me down if the wind ever got bad the lack of practical guy points , stupid not fit for purpose pegging points and tissue thin material . Iv'e had cheaper tents that have stood up to way worse including a vango banshee and the much famous pro action tiger paws £15 tent that i should never of sold. The zephyros has everything i'm looking for and is not a million miles away from what i'm used to so fingers crossed. On a side note a friend has owned and used the terra nova laser for years and its bullet proof .
We totally agree we have both zephyroses and a helm 1 absolutely brillent in our opinion you have made a great choice 😊👍
