Since this was your Grandpa's, I would keep it as close to OEM as possible. You are preserving great memories and preparing it make many more in the future . I look forward to this series and seeing how it comes together.
GREAT content. Awesome car. Keep it OEM. It will be so much more worth. The "abs/traction control after marked looking thing" is original Porsche charcoal canister - fuel tank vent.
I might be as emotionally invested in this build now as I am with my own car for Christ sake 😂😂😂😂. Keep it all together man don’t gut her. $500 should get you a full carpet kit brand new, $60 for an Amazon dash cover (for the time being) Parts are actually not as unavailable as you might think there’s a lot you can get readily and relatively inexpensively. Once you get her up and running go for a MAF kit and throw that AFM back to the depths of hell. Clark’s garage and rennlist will be your best friend. That paint is gonna clean up amazing. 100% powder coat the cam housing and the intake. You can even get brand new wiring harnesses NOS from Porsche.
Great car and would love to see you restore back to original. If you replace the carpet, I would be interested in buying the rear hatch carpet side pieces to help you fund the replacement. I know it’s not in great but it’s better than the one I have in my car.
If you make a beater race car or something less than your best effort out of your grandfather's car you will regret it someday, badly. I have had my e30 for 13 years and it's still not done, because I realized it was too special to me to become a racecar. I have my whole life to finish it, I am MUCH older than you (36), so you got nothing but time. Do not rush it. DO not be dissuaded by work, or time, or lack of skills tools or money. It all comes with patience. You can make the car whatever your best vision for it is. Just do it a step at a time. Big difficult projects are just very large collections of tiny easy jobs. Break it down, plan it out, then stop looking at the big picture until you cross off a dozen tiny snapshots. I subbed just to see your progress and the resurrection of this car. Yes. A random nobody on the internet believes in you. If I were local I would help you make it happen.
I'd say keep it as original as you can, you can always make it into a race car but it's much harder to turn it back once it's done. Also with 944s being relatively cheap at the minute I think a lot of people will be buying them to race. Then again it's your car so go wild
@@oliversanson6207 I’m going to do my best to save it to OEM. Talked to a buddy who cleans upholstery. Probably going to bleach bath all carpets then re-dye them with a spray can. Just need it to warm up a little bit 🤞

Older cars get cross-generational views, that’s why your views are up on the Porsche.
@@InspiredJJ that makes sense
@ just a note on 944’s you may have to clean the fuel injector rail and replace the fuel pump. Good luck to you, my friend.👍
Probably 43k miles (actually 143k) old speedometers would roll over at 100k to 0k
awesome vid! i think you should try to save the interior and keep it oem
