Surprisingly after so many years no one has mentioned how insane it is that he is lowering the volume with his pinky at 3:48 while he transitions out of the shred zone
I always thought it was common knowledge that on high end tube amps, you can control your distortion fairly well with the volume knob and pick attack as opposed to solid states.
@TWDub Thanks for the infos, didn't know this one, I always thought it was just the EVO played as is. Whatever it's not a robot that plays the record, it's him and it's almost even more impressive the synchronization with the visual for the rendering of sound to image.
:) Sure. What I meant was: his imagination is flawless as well as his technique. Sometimes, he get stuck in his "mystical" stuff or "Vai Church" thing. That's when I switch to Mozart. :D
Indeed, Chris. The mystic thing is less to my taste, but it is HIS thing, and what makes him so special and unique. Vai is remarkable and an example to many of what an artist is.
👍🎸👏 I’m almost 70 now and sadly admit that I only very recently (few months ago +/-) heard of Steve Vai, thanks to searching for videos by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I hit a ‘play’ button on YT by accident, but what a great one it was! Since then I’ve been looking for as many of his other videos and performances I could find, and so far haven’t come across a single one that I didn’t like enough to play it every single day! Though he has a unique style of playing and expressing himself both with the guitar and facial expressions, it goes to show just how much he ‘feels’ the music imo. Looks don’t matter, and never have, one bit to me - just the fact that an artist is able to convey ‘something’ to the souls of those people who listen! Steve is one of the best examples I can think of who can do this for me - regardless of WHAT he plays! Would have ❤’d to see him play in a live concert!
the reason why I started learning electric guitar after seeing steve live… this performance is just simply intricate yet unique with a tender touch to your heart ♥️ can’t explain in any words!!!
Waves of energy coursed through my entire body and I really could feel the emotion that guitar was trying to sing out. That was uncomparable. Thank you for your dedication and talent and sharing it with me.

We were at an exquisite villa for my birthday celebration having the best high smoking weed. It was then this played and I am going to be completely honest, I was in another space/dimension. I had not felt so surreal/alive. It was after that day, not a day goes by without listening to this masterpiece. PS : Play this while you’re stoned, highly recommended.

I did that in my dreams last night it's easy man
wow wow wow wow, i just noticed that!
I think I will mess up my one-note-per-second playing even if I think of doing it
I always thought it was common knowledge that on high end tube amps, you can control your distortion fairly well with the volume knob and pick attack as opposed to solid states.
You can seem slowly build the volume up too, Ive never noticed either of these details until you pointed it out. He is fucking wild lmao
for me this is the best performance of Tender Surrender ever!
its studio recording over a video

He can do anything with his guitar.
He's free. Absolutely free as an artist.
ok but do bear in mind this has been dubbed over :D
but I'm sure the original when he played it sounded almost as perfect!

Ricardo Mena I love this mystical and church stuff he can easily express with his unique technique !

Steve vai was sent for hendrix to keep planet earth rocking!
is he using the middle pickup or neck pickup during the intro? It doesn’t sound like the neck pickup but I always see videos of him using it…

When he pulls off a string he basically plucks it at the same time, also his pedals are really good for sustaining notes
Very common in electric guitar players... For decades
