    I sometimes answer, "The box is for us humans. Sheep wandering outside the pen are in danger of attack so God tells us to stay inside where we're safe. The Shepherd may come and go as he pleases, but our instructions are to stay put where he designates."

      Saying "God is in a box" is basically saying 1 Corinthians 4:6 is a lie and that the canon isnt closed

    It’s me with the comments. At least you know I’m listening to what your discussing. I really love you two Kozarz. I was in Charismania for 50 years. It was so hard seeing the craziness (Rodney Howard Browne) and not knowing where to turn. I stayed in my denomination and turned to Moody Radio. Then I found out most radio preachers are Calvinists. I did not know there was such a thing. Then I found out Calvinists are Determinists and God chose the damned before the foundation of the world. Leaving my denomination was hard. Finding a non Calvinistic church was hard. Im having a tough time. I wouldn’t sit under Calvinist teaching any more than I would sit under Joseph Smith teaching. I was married to my denomination and it took years to walk away from it. I just want truth.

      I can sure understand where you are coming from - in the Charismania camp, the focus is on us. As I listened to RC Sproul, first, then others, like the Kozars, I discovered that I had no view of God- who He is. Pretty much I thought that Jesus died so I could live better. Justin Peters pointed out the silliness of "Kings Kids Parking". I do believe that every good and perfect gift is from God and I am grateful for all the good in my life, including parking spaces, but I no longer believe that He is interested in the minute details of my life, He cares, yes, but what He cares most about me is that I worship Him in spirit and truth. He is God and why He does what He does is beyond my ability. Who would want to serve a God we can fully understand? We don't understand one another, even our children, so how can we understand a sovereign God. We want to, yes, but He reveals things in His own time. (I am here trying to put my beliefs in a nutshell). I am responding to your comment "God chose the damned before the foundation of the word". We are all damned because of the fall; He chose, in His sovereignty, those He chose to be His sons and daughters. Some people say this same truth in a different way - He looked across time and saw those that would choose Him. But I believe that God calls us - we aren't looking for Him. I'm not very good at expressing my thoughts, but wanted to give you a different view of what God chose before the foundation of the world. We will both find truth in our reading of the Word of God - something we did before with preconceived notions about what it said, at least I did - Hagin, Copeland, etc. They sounded so sure and I believed them. Now I have to unlearn everything.....but it's so precious, isn't it?, being in His Word with freedom?

    Listening to your convo tonight makes me think of how we have seen a “dumbing down” of what is taught in many American churches at the same time as the “dumbing down” of the government education system. Both institutions have gone after what’s “new”.

    "If you say you don't want an interpretive framework, that means you simply want to use your own interpretive framework." Gold!

    • @lindajohnson4204
      @lindajohnson4204 ปีที่แล้ว

      But our basic interpretive framework is more like the stuff we are born with. We use an interpretive framework to learn to walk and speak; this is why we are said to "construct" our reality. We have to build a framework for storing memory, in the basic memory storing system God has given us. There's nothing wrong with that. But that doesn't mean that we have to give ourselves to any, or every, framework that comes down the pike, and the more authoritarian, the more dangerous. Jesus called the boxes built by Pharisees the "traditions of men", which He said they had elevated over the word of God: they "made the word of God of no effect", because of their human traditions. This is a danger signal, but we will always be herded toward whatever human tradition has been established, even if it's a Hillsong extravaganza.

    • @restorative-waves
      @restorative-waves ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lindajohnson4204 Since a very young age we are building our interpretive framework along with the help of others, consciously or not. So, if we rely only on our own (especially as adults reading the bible), we can fool ourselves into thinking our interpretive framework is pure/100% our own/100% of the Holy Spirit. Since God wants us to have a sound mind (as well as the Holy Spirit), we should be careful about only relying only on our own interpretive framework and perspective and understanding. Because like it or not, we are all taking in information from all of our surroundings.
      That said, as a critical thinker and so on, I agree that we must then weigh what we're told internally, not just accept or reject external concepts/words/ideas.

    • @lindajohnson4204
      @lindajohnson4204 ปีที่แล้ว

      @restorative-waves For all the damage the fans of authoritarian religion say results from every person reading his or her own Bible and asking the Holy Spirit to guide them, it is nothing like the damage that has been created by authoritarian religion, and is still being created by them. People who make arguments against our personally seeking God's truth and believing thst the Holy Spirit will guide us, neglect to give what Jesus said any credibility. Apparently, He didn't know what He was talking about. He said the Spirit would guide us into all truth? But if people want to call just any spirits the Holy Spirit, refusing to test the spirits to see if they are of God, is the doctrine that Jesus spoke, that the Holy Spirit would be sent to guide us into all truth, a lie? If what Jesus said was a lie, why bother pretending to believe in Him? He didn't tell us to believe that just everything that comes into our head is the Holy Spirit. Just the opposite. If we push His wisdom out of the way, His wisdom is not to blame. I do not see that we are better off just kowtowing to whatever has a gloss or appearance of learning. So often today people follow everything that gives them the look of a person of learning, caring little that the authority they are believing in is nothing but the imprimatur of Rome, or some other worldly appearance of authority that they think will rub off on them. I would rather believe in the guiding into all truth by the Holy Spirit, and honestly seek it, than just kowtow to
      doctrines taught by people who don't even believe the things they teach. That is true of Rome, and that also the mainline denominations. I think they are the blind leading the blind into the same trap people have fallen for repeatedly, not because they believe in the Holy Spirit, but because they do not. And if the devil has done the Wily Coyote thing again, and has plastered detour signs all over the truth, and has labeled his own lies as the truth, why give in and believe him, when a little testing the spirits to see if they are of God would reveal that his way is the lie, so easily? I find that this appeal to human authority always leads to the pit, where no one but Gid will care thar we fell in, and I've already been there, and I find nothing trustworthy about these religious leaders at all. I didn't get out of the pit because I became a religious partisan in these dialectical games they play. I got out because I looked to the very real Holy Spirit to lead me out. I took God to be real, and His word as real.

      @@StevenKozarMessedUpChurch The confessions of Reformed Covenant Theology do not contain the term "New Covenant". Why not? The term does come from the Bible.
      Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary.
      What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
      New Covenant Whole Gospel:
      Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
      He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
      Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
      Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
      Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
      Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
      Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
      Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
      Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
      We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
      1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
      1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
      1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

    The hardest part of a Christian’s journey is figuring out which teachers truly understand how the Bible is meant to be taught. Life is tough being a practicing Christian nowadays. For many reasons. The Confessional Lutheran church seems to be a good option though. God bless you all on your journey and may you find the true Gospel ❤

    I've always thought something was wrong with my conversion because, unlike other Christians, I can't tell you exactly when I was saved. Because it wasn't because of a prayer I prayed. It was because over a period of time, the gospel was revealed to me by God drawing me and the Holy Spirit giving me understanding, and at some point I understood and embraced Jesus and began to repent of sin in my life and follow Him.

      Amen! The American church has misled many people regarding being "born again." In John 3, Jesus makes it clear that the birth from above is a mysterious work of the Holy Spirit. We see the results of it, but the process is a mystery. We are born of water (baptism) and the Spirit, as Jesus told Nicodemus.

    My main takeaway from this excellent discussion is a strengthened view of the value of the gift of salvation. If salvation is 100% from and because of God, and nothing of my own effort or action, doesn't that increase the value of that gift to me?
    And understanding that, is both freeing and constraining. Well, maybe constraining is too strong a word - compelling? I am freed from the weight of having to do anything to earn my salvation, but am compelled, because of my heightened sense of the value of God's gift, to "work out [my] salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who works in [me] to will and to act according to His good purpose" (Php 2:12-13)... meaning I treat that gift with respect and treasure it to the point where I would never willingly do anything to reject it or ruin it or lose it or ...

I hated God and He saved me. If I give myself 1% of credit than I lower God as your friend said. Once I began to understand that I noticed John MacArthur sermons made more sense, some of your topical discussions made more sense, reading the Bible made more sense.
    I’m currently reading “The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit” By R.A. Torrey and the first chapter talked about our zero contribution to our salvation.

    Thanks for this video it is great. Doctrine, objective truths of the Bible, history, grammatical understanding, proper hermeneutics ... It's only dry and dusty to someone who doesn't understand it or is ignorant (takes one to know one). Steve (and Daryl), Great Courses is still around, and anything that is offered that pertains to Christianity is absolutely of the liberal persuasion. Not that some thing could be learned, but when it comes to the theology of their teachers, it is not Scriptural (in the classic Protestantism) nor Confessional. BTW: Anglicans (I am one in America) are not confessional; they are creedal (which is good) but creedal only. So many of the problems that the various Continuing provinces experience would be relieved if they were confessional. In England, pastoral candidates used to be required to hold to the 39 Articles. In the US, after independence, Anglicans were not required to do so. Anglo-Catholics here have rejected some of the Articles.
    This was a excellent video! You two are an excellent team.

    "Psalm 107 is about God's goodness and delivering men, the psalmist uses natural instances to not only show that God has power over nature, but also to show that God will deliver us from our or through our distresses. Does God only deliver us from wandering in the wilderness, only from a storm on the sea? " Whoever is wise will observe these things and they will understand the loving kindness of the Lord." Yes, the church I grew up in was a Calvary Chapel church which is non denominational, but all the people that attended often said they would only go to a Calvary Chapel church because they knew it was a church where they would hear solid biblical teaching. I heard people say this at Calvary Chapels n several different states, to me it was almost cult like how adamant they were about only attending Calvary Chapels.

    It's whatever you get from the Church in its teaching office. Some protestant sects have more shared ancestry some less. Some groups that claim to be Christian don't even follow the Church on the trinity because even where the Bible is "explicit" that means there is a lot implicit knowledge in your tradition that is right, and the former groups have diverged so far from the Church they don't even have that on the most fundamental things

For example, Jesus never said anything about driving a car. Does that mean we shouldnt drive cars?
