I LOVED my M-14 in the Army. Went in when I was 19, never had any firearm experience before. Just followed instructions, and one day decided to see if I could cover my shot group with a quarter. But I didn't have a quarter in my pocket, only a nickel. And covered the group completely. Was totally shocked when during our final testing, I could hit my target at 500 meters, with just that "peep sight."
We used the M14 at summer camp ROTC training in 1968. Pop up targets from 50 meters, a head only, out to 500 meters (547 yards) thighs and up targets. With the peep sight on the M14, I hit out to 500 meters very consistently.
When I was a recruit in the Swedish National Homeguard, at age 15, I had a Mauser m/96, 6.5 mm, with ammunition, in my closet. At age 17 I was transferred to the regular troops at the Swedish National Homeguard and had a Swedish made, KG m/21 - 37, with ammunition, in my closet. The Swedish BAR:s are quite similar to the U.S. BAR M1918, calibre .30 Automatic Rifle (BAR), except that it has a separate pistol grip and are all made in the Swedish m/94 6.5 mm calibre. The Swedish modification was developed by the Swedish government arsenal, Carl Gustaf Stads Gun Factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden. When I did my mandatory military service, in the Swedish Marines, we had the Ag m/42B. The AG m/42 was designed by Erik Eklund of the AB C.J. Ljungmans Verkstäder company of Malmö around 1941, and entered production at the Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in Eskilstuna in 1942. We also had kpist m/45B, 9 x 19 mm SMG (Submachine Gun), and produced by the Carl Gustaf Stads Gun Factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Other ordnance weapons were the Light Machine Gun m/58 - Technical data: GP MG - Kulspruta 58, KSP 58. Calibre, 6,5x55 or 7,62x51. Ammunition, 6,5 mm m/94 or 7,62 mm ptr 10. V0, 830-850 m/s and Granatgevär, Grg m/48, Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle, or the Gustaf Bazooka or M2CG, is an 84 mm man-portable reusable anti-tank recoilless rifle produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics (formerly Bofors Anti-Armour AB) in Sweden. Now I am retired and living on memories!

Enfield Pattern 14... I can reliably put a round through the center of a spent casing at 25yds with the iron sites. Most accurate rifle I have ever fired.

Here's a fact about the SMLE. Because the action locks in the rear, the bolt compresses, and tends to shorten over time. This increases the headspace, and after a while, you'll experience case separations. But the Britts had a solution. The bolt head screws onto the body. So they produced a series of bolt heads, of gradually increasing lengths. When you started to get excessive headspace, you just installed the next longer head. When you reached the maximum length, the rifle was returned to the armory, where the barrel was screwed into the receiver another turn. Unfortunately, most of the SMLEs I've encountered have had excessive headspace, and had the longest bolt head.
Yes, we still use the old Mosin actions in our TKIV 85 sniper rifles. Also, about Simo Häyhä: he racked 505 kills with his rifle and about 200 to 250 with his Suomi SMG. There is no accurate number to how many he killed with the SMG but it is generally accepted that he had 505 kills with the rifle. Greetings from Finland.

I picked up M91-30 hex at cabelas years ago. Had been refinished, red paint in the lettering and factory stamp, and the bore pristinely shines. All but the stock looks brand new. That thing performs great. If only I could find SP ammo for it now.
Wow, I am impressed, you guys have a wealth of knowledge. In the Marines, I trained with the M1 and I packed an M14. Aa a boy, I bought 8MM Mauser from 42, for $60. I mainly hunt moose, because I love the taste. Eventually, I converted it to a 8X06 with a stainless barrel and a fiberglass stock. We call it a poor man's Magnum. I guided a few rich hunters who turned up their nose at my rifle, but it bailed out a few of them. I've hunted with the same rifle for nearly 70 years and that's the sum total of my rifle expertise, but I look forward to your videos in the future.
K-31 is King Kong for accuracy. A K-31 is a target rifle in wolf's clothing. The Swiss could not help themselves. Very high precision build. Lapped barrels, target grade trigger, excellent sights, match grade service ammunition The M96 is Queen Kong for the stated reasons in video. 6.5x55 and the 7.5x55 are cartridges of superb design as well, even by today's standards. Excellent video !
FWIW: Because the Swiss Army was comprised of citizen soldiers, the soldier placed a small tag under the rear buttplate with his personnal info. I had a brief communication with the soldier until I never heard from him again. An interesting guy.
You are correct @ 12:10 , the Finnish 7.62 TK 85 (tarkkuuskivääri = marksmanrifle) is basically a Mosin-Nagant on steroids. It uses a substantially heavier barrel and has a beefier wooden stock, but still uses in some cases literally antique Mosin receivers and bolts. If I'm not mistaken those rifles were modified by Valmet. I've shot with those quite a lot, during my time as a military police NCO in Pori Brigade, in Kosovo (along with the awesome SAKO TRG 42) and during my military refreshers. One of the problems with those rifles is that since they use the basic Mosin-Nagant action, you can't use stripper clips to load them since the telescopic sight is in the way and it's a pain in the ass to load each shot individually. If the FDF still wants to keep using those (since the TRG42 is waaaaayyyyy more expensive rifle to procure and maintain), I'd like to see a switch to a stock that would allow the use of detachable magazines, something like the Mosin-Nagant stock produced by Archangel. Using a polymer stock would also reduce the weight quite substantially, the rifle weighs like 7kg which quite a bit more than a rifle like that would actually require.
The more I learn about Finnish firearms and the modified Mosin's they produced it makes me appreciate even more the gun culture that my grandfather and great grandfather tried to instill in myself as a young man. Trust your hardware, know it was made to the best abilities of the time, and to take your time and make one shot count.

7.62 Tkiv 85 is the sniper rifle that is based on the russian mosing-nagant. The Tkiv 85 is the standard sniper rifle for finnish defence forces and it is really nice to shoot aswell. With love from Finland.
I was in sniper reserve cource few years ago... We were shooting with Tkiv 85. With this gun i shoot every bullet in ring 25mm in 150m during weekend. When i shoot with my own hunting rifles with basic cartridge what i can buy in store, there are quite often some flyes, and i thought that i am bad shooter.
My first hunting rifle was a Carl Gustaf 6.5x.55 Swedish Mauser. still is my favorite rifle very flat shooting cartridge, deadly accurate using Nosler tipped rounds.
I have always loved the Swedish Mausers since I was a small kid thanks to a friend of my fathers who was a gunsmith from Sweden in San Diego back in the 50s. Amazing shooting rifles. Shot an AR10 chambered in 6.5 x 55. Never thought to ask the guy how he built that rifle as the Swede round is longer than the 308.
+Jim Bush first to use smokeless next to the Belgian 1889. The 1889s are not common at all so most people attribute the 1891 as being the first mass produced smokeless Mauser rifle.

I have an 1896 6.5 X 55 the bayonet nose piece and rear sight was missing and I purchased Nos original parts and was able to attach the bayonet and frog. A very accurate rifle and fun to shoot. Better than my British 303 Enfield unissued brand new (1943) a very flat shooter. I bagged a trophy Elk with my Swedish Mauser 6.5 a true Cadillac of a rifle truly. And as you said not cheap to shoot as 20 rounds at $74.00 Trophy Grade Nosler Ammunition for hunting not plinking absolutely.
I had a gun buff friend who had a large number of military surplus guns on his walls and especially in his den. He had wooden dowels in the barrel tips to keep out dust and he had air purifiers in each room to keep dust down. His wife did not mind saying he was a very good husband and she was happy to let him sit in the middle of all those guns. She insisted he hire a house cleaner every two weeks to vacuum around all those guns on the wall. She was a looker and he was one of the happiest men I ever knew.
Always loved the Lee Enfield .303, especially the #4 Mk. 2. I recall when you could buy one of these great guns at Eaton's department Store in downtown Toronto for $10. Now, at a well known Ontario auction, in good condition, any Enfield goes for at least $600.
I have a Long Branch No.4 MkI* that is superbly accurate, but I think the days of $600 Lee Enfields is long gone, at least in the U.S. and if you want one in excellent condition.
currently restoring one now #4 mk1 version love my enfield rifles accurate reliable able to withstand harsh conditions.....hard to find since our government( Canada) in its infinite wisdom torched all the surplus mk 4s, enough to make a guy cry and they were priceless.......
I Qualified Expert with Both the M-14 and the M-1 Garand, while in the Marine Corps. Great Accurate Rifles. Our Sniper Rifles were both Civilian Hunting Rifles, That also are excellent and very Accurate: The M-700 Remington and The M-70 Winchester Both Outstanding, very accurate Rifles.
Always loved shooting the M14 while in the Seabees. 1st expert on rifle before going to m16. Then 1911 exp quals. Love to have all these firearms in collection, but I def would want an M14 in my collection 💪😊
The 700 has always been my go to rifle! From what I hear, the USMC had one of the best and most guarded secret modification program for their rifles. If I remember, the M700s were a long action, so they had adaptability between most cartridge's (i.e. 30-06 or 308). I know the Rem 700s in the Army was the M24 platform.
When i was 14, the Mauser from Argentine military were sold in barrels at grocery stores. In cosmoline, they had never been used. The local store had cleaned up one and it like a palace guard weapon for marching. High grade delux finish with jewelled bolt. Hard wood and mirror like blueing. Cost $20. Dad said i was too young! Could have a dozen , cleaned and saved 11 and sold them and bought a nice speedboat when i retired from Army a few years ago. I didd get a new Swede from 1900 with the click round target sight for $80 and another from 1944 with dings. Sold the dinged one a few years ago for about 400. They were both tack drivers. Really enjoy this channel.

Great video! An odd rifle I've found to also be very accurate as well (although underpowered) believe it or not was the 1891 Carcano. Although the Carcano has a poor reputation (Since the JFK assassination) as a poor and inaccurate rifle. I found it to be the first rifle I could easily strike an 18-inch target at 1,500 yards. But again, like you mentioned in your video, the 6.5 caliber is a perfect design. Great video, we need to shoot together sometime.

Mike Matusek There is sure nothing wrong with Carcanos. I lucked into a nice stash of 7.35 and took three like that to the range with my son last summer, along with a 6.5 Truppe Especiale just like them. That was one of the best times I have had at the range ever. The steel is primarily Czech. They were all so well made that there is no nee to serialize the bolts on them, since they all fit each other. Gain twist rifling makes them plenty accurate too. The don't have the smoothest actions in the world for sure, but they are fine rifles. So under-appreciated..
how do the remington 700 and M14 fare when compared to these rifles in accuracy??? was wondering also of WWII era rifles like the Lee enfield and the karabiner 98k???
About two weeks after you published this video, I went with my son to the Northern CMP store in Camp Perry. We satyed on base at the military rate and saved a tiny bit of money for a WW2 M1D (in the 2.5 million SN). I paid $939 for it and having been born in Greece, I was looking for an M1 that came back from Greece. Then my cousin took me to a gun store and I found a new production M1 Garand. Got that for $995. Ofcource I was rubbed by my son, who for graduation and RN license board present, he demanded one of the M1s. I gave him the new production. He' ll get the other in a few years any way. My eyes are not working the same as when I was in the army, accuracy is secondary at this point. I like nice looking rifles. You cannot beat the M1 Garant or the M1A in that respect. Unfortunately CMP has been zero balance on all but a few high dollar sniper model M1's for several months. I looked at getting one a couple of years ago but didn't pull the trigger (ha) when I had the chance. I know they've been zero balance a couple of times before too and found some more somewhere, but who knows this time. In the meantime, CMP being sold out has pushed up the asking prices of M1s already out there. Eventually I'd like to get at least a service grade but I don't want to pay a temporarily (I hope) inflated price for one.

I have all these rifles except for the Ljungman. My 1903 Springfields will shoot as well at least as any on your table. One more thing - a good 28/30 will shoot at least as well as an M39. More weight in the barrel and less in the stock. I won't mention my preference for the GEW-11 over the k31 at the range, lol. But - I sold my k31s for a reason.
Since you went on a mini Enfield rant, I picked up a post war 1948 No.4 Mk1 in unissued condition a few months back and man...she is just a dream to shoot. I've seen a lot of Enfields with rusty ladder apertures and the whole 9, but knowing I own one (even being a post war example) in essentially mint condition is a great feeling.
+Simon Doge Yup. Still in service but they are not in so good shape after long service. TKIV 2000 or Sako TRG-43 is the main sniper rifle. All tough the TKIV 2000 is waste cause Finnish sniper training is bad right now.
+Larry Finnish sniper training is actually really good. My friend was there and was not touched a gun before military service and after he came from there he is now a really good shot. And a plus, the finnish military is using The Dragunov in training and on the other things.
The Finnish snipers now days don't operate as classical snipers. They work with the platoon as a marksman and alone inside the fighting force. The rifle is mainly used as a "long range support weapon". Typical sniper example one trained in Kymeen jääkäripatalijoona shoots less than 20 rounds trough TRG. The trainigs lasts about one month. Dragunov is also discontinued rifle but some units still use it (example Rajajääkäri-joukot). The third rifle is RSTKIV 2000 which is barret m82 which the Finnish military doesn't have proper ammunition so the accuracy is something like 2 MOA. There are some groups that give extensive sniper training like Utti's Special yager-regiment, Immola's Special Frontier yager-comppany and the Combat divers.
I got Mojo sights on my 1886/11 swiss rifle. Shot 372 out of 400 in a 200 yard slow fire highpower match. I love that gun. I had a Swedish Mauser that was stolen. If you ever come across a 1923 with a timney trigger, and non standard sights installed, it could very well be mine.

The nice thing about these rifles is you don't have to worry about a gas tube when you have to substitute black powder when smokeless powder becomes scarce. How to substitute black powder to make a powder measure pull apart a round you need to convert, mark the bottom of the bullet seat, then measure 1mm below the seat mark and cut off at the lower mark (1mm below the bullet seat mark) now you have a black powder measure. The finer the grain of black powder burns faster. You need that space below the bullet seat because of compression of the powder may cause the primer to not ignite the powder. Some firearms are originally configured for black powder. The 45/70 is one that comes to mind. You need 70 grains of black powder. The thing about black powder is smokeless powder is 3 times more powerful than black powder. So converting newer weapons you don't have to worry about over pressuring the firearm unless for some weapons that were originally designed to use black powder and you over fill the casing with black powder. As things after a SHTF situation bolt action, lever action and blowback operations black powder will work in. A weapon with a gas tube you might get 5 shots off before your gas tube gets blocked and you have to manually cycle the weapon. Having a Chronometer is helpful when you need to start using the different types of smokeless powder. If you do reloading you have a set of specifications. Let's say you run out of Ramshot True Blue. I don't use 5.56 rounds because I shoot from my left side. The brass from an AR15 or M16 gets thrown back into my face. However my 5.7 x 28 rifle and pistol I can use the 5.56 bullet and some of the powder charge from the 5.56 rounds to reload my 5.7 x 28mm brass. Just have to find out, using the Chronometer, the proper amount of powder needed. I hope that I gave everyone some good information that I received from another person who does reloading. I have very few rifles that have a gas tube. And one rifle in .308 has a gas rod and spring system for delayed blowback operation. As the 2 rods are pushed back to extract and reload the rifle chamber. When the rods push back forward it blows the extra gas back out of the gas port and cleans the gas port and the 1st rod section of the gas tube. This rifle, although it has a gas port and gas tube setup it won't jam or plug up the gas operating system.
So the gold circle on the end of the Swedish rifles is used to determine the "quality" of the barrel. I believe top numbers on the circle are used to determine the level of barrel erosion. The lower numbers which ranged from 0-3 determines the quality of the bore over time. Gunsmiths would indicate this by an indentation each time it was sent in for repair or replacement. Once the numbers were marked high enough it meant the barrel would need to be replaced. Earlier models simply mark which type of rifle it is (training, infantry, cavalry).
Furthermore, if you're looking to purchase a swedish surplus rifle it's good to look at the last known barrel quality. If it's marked with a 3, and higher numbers on the top portion, it isn't your best bet for an accurate surplus rifle.
I really respect that you are trying not to hurt the feelings of the Patriots nor the match-shooters by skipping the debate about Garand and K98, salute dear brother.
What you have to remember about the 98s is that many of them were used extensively in Ww1, mothballed and then used extensively in Ww2 to the bitter. Rifles used by the losing, and out numbered side of two long, desperate, total wars tend to have more shots run through them and less care and cleaning in the field. There are also less available which would have been unissued, so barrel wear can be more prevalent. That said German military doctrine squad tactics were based around their superior belt fed machine guns, with riflemen in a support role. That said, those 98s have a lot of use on them and I'm impressed by their accuracy and reliability.

You say it shoots 2750fps he interrupts and says actually it's closer to 2740fps as if there is any difference, you say a few hundred to 1 for mosin to m39 ratio and he says no it's actually 362-1, and finally you say how you got the guns then he goes I actually got a nicer one in Vegas then the m39 o ya this ones nice but the one I bought in a private sale has a much nicer stock than Eric's god that would drive me crazy... Concerning the GP11, we dont produce it anymore since 1990 if I'm not mistaken. We might re-produce some in the future and maybe it won't be berdan, but it will probably be closer to a RUAG match than a GP11. Since 2012 the Stg 57 has been officialy droped out of the reserve of the army so the only service weapons using the ammo are Mg51 machineguns, it's not enough to motivate the army to re-start production, they will probably kick those out of service too sooner or later because of the change in doctrine. For the 57 you'll probably see a batch comming, but they took the decision to destroy most of them. To give you a scale there were approximately 1 million of 57's produced, with 8 (yes, 8) barels per piece (yes, we tend to stockpile a little). So they are now destroying approximately 5-6 million new match barells because the leftists won. Going to puke, comming back in a few sec...... But don't worry too much for the GP11, in the 1990's when we stopped production there was something like 8-10 BILLIONS of rounds in stock, so considering our primers are the weak point of our ammo by far (give it 50 years max) you'll find GP11's that won't go off before not finding GP11's at all.

I found a match grade Enfield that was the only one with the numbered brass buttplate. I got it from Turner's in San Bernardino CA for 49 bucks back in 96. I took it and disassembled it, then soaked the stock in ammonia removing the crappy coating that was on it. Then with steel wool it was rubbed with Cherry-Wood stain matching all pieces. Afterwards verathane clearcoated. When assembled it looks stunning, and with handloaded rounds shoots 3100 fps and flat stacking them at 300 yds. The farthest I've shot was on the Navajo reservation in Winslow AZ, at 5000 yds and hitting within 3ft iron sighted. It's a good testament to the craftsmanship of the time with all those rifles, and the men who carried them into battle.
have shot that rifle up to 600 yds and scored marksman for 7 years. The same rifle british 303 is used in teh british bisley world match and shows up in top 3 for last 50 plus years. Bad oversight on your part me thinks

I have a K31 and just bought a AG42B. Bought the AG42 because a friend handed me a ton of 6.5x55 swiss brass. I'm a reloader so I like reloading for my surplus rifles.

My Ljungman is a tack driver but my model 96 will outshoot just about anything. My Dad bought a whole bunch of Gustav Mausers and some were nearly new. I got to keep 2 of them. The accuracy is mind boggling.

M14 is great rifle just heavy but they chopped it down more modern use but military contractors still use the socom m14 Sportized stock

We used the M14 at summer camp ROTC training in 1968. Pop up targets from 50 meters, a head only, out to 500 meters (547 yards) thighs and up targets. With the peep sight on the M14, I hit out to 500 meters very consistently.
In WW 2 a 4 to 5 MOA group was considered acceptable for a battle rifle. Obviously, some were better.

When I was a recruit in the Swedish National Homeguard, at age 15, I had a Mauser m/96, 6.5 mm, with ammunition, in my closet. At age 17 I was transferred to the regular troops at the Swedish National Homeguard and had a Swedish made, KG m/21 - 37, with ammunition, in my closet. The Swedish BAR:s are quite similar to the U.S. BAR M1918, calibre .30 Automatic Rifle (BAR), except that it has a separate pistol grip and are all made in the Swedish m/94 6.5 mm calibre. The Swedish modification was developed by the Swedish government arsenal, Carl Gustaf Stads Gun Factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden.
When I did my mandatory military service, in the Swedish Marines, we had the Ag m/42B. The AG m/42 was designed by Erik Eklund of the AB C.J. Ljungmans Verkstäder company of Malmö around 1941, and entered production at the Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in Eskilstuna in 1942.
We also had kpist m/45B, 9 x 19 mm SMG (Submachine Gun), and produced by the Carl Gustaf Stads Gun Factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden.
Other ordnance weapons were the Light Machine Gun m/58 - Technical data: GP MG - Kulspruta 58, KSP 58. Calibre, 6,5x55 or 7,62x51. Ammunition, 6,5 mm m/94 or 7,62 mm ptr 10. V0, 830-850 m/s and Granatgevär, Grg m/48, Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle, or the Gustaf Bazooka or M2CG, is an 84 mm man-portable reusable anti-tank recoilless rifle produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics (formerly Bofors Anti-Armour AB) in Sweden.

Here's a fact about the SMLE. Because the action locks in the rear, the bolt compresses, and tends to shorten over time. This increases the headspace, and after a while, you'll experience case separations. But the Britts had a solution. The bolt head screws onto the body. So they produced a series of bolt heads, of gradually increasing lengths. When you started to get excessive headspace, you just installed the next longer head. When you reached the maximum length, the rifle was returned to the armory, where the barrel was screwed into the receiver another turn. Unfortunately, most of the SMLEs I've encountered have had excessive headspace, and had the longest bolt head.
Yes, we still use the old Mosin actions in our TKIV 85 sniper rifles. Also, about Simo Häyhä: he racked 505 kills with his rifle and about 200 to 250 with his Suomi SMG. There is no accurate number to how many he killed with the SMG but it is generally accepted that he had 505 kills with the rifle. Greetings from Finland.

My first rifle was a 303 Enfield, it was most inaccurate rifle I've ever had, and I've had dozens since then.
I picked up M91-30 hex at cabelas years ago. Had been refinished, red paint in the lettering and factory stamp, and the bore pristinely shines. All but the stock looks brand new. That thing performs great. If only I could find SP ammo for it now.
Wow, I am impressed, you guys have a wealth of knowledge. In the Marines, I trained with the M1 and I packed an M14. Aa a boy, I bought 8MM Mauser from 42, for $60. I mainly hunt moose, because I love the taste. Eventually, I converted it to a 8X06 with a stainless barrel and a fiberglass stock. We call it a poor man's Magnum. I guided a few rich hunters who turned up their nose at my rifle, but it bailed out a few of them. I've hunted with the same rifle for nearly 70 years and that's the sum total of my rifle expertise, but I look forward to your videos in the future.
K-31 is King Kong for accuracy. A K-31 is a target rifle in wolf's clothing. The Swiss could not help themselves. Very high precision build. Lapped barrels, target grade trigger, excellent sights, match grade service ammunition The M96 is Queen Kong for the stated reasons in video. 6.5x55 and the 7.5x55 are cartridges of superb design as well, even by today's standards.

FWIW: Because the Swiss Army was comprised of citizen soldiers, the soldier placed a small tag under the rear buttplate with his personnal info. I had a brief communication with the soldier until I never heard from him again. An interesting guy.
You are correct @ 12:10 , the Finnish 7.62 TK 85 (tarkkuuskivääri = marksmanrifle) is basically a Mosin-Nagant on steroids. It uses a substantially heavier barrel and has a beefier wooden stock, but still uses in some cases literally antique Mosin receivers and bolts. If I'm not mistaken those rifles were modified by Valmet. I've shot with those quite a lot, during my time as a military police NCO in Pori Brigade, in Kosovo (along with the awesome SAKO TRG 42) and during my military refreshers.
One of the problems with those rifles is that since they use the basic Mosin-Nagant action, you can't use stripper clips to load them since the telescopic sight is in the way and it's a pain in the ass to load each shot individually. If the FDF still wants to keep using those (since the TRG42 is waaaaayyyyy more expensive rifle to procure and maintain), I'd like to see a switch to a stock that would allow the use of detachable magazines, something like the Mosin-Nagant stock produced by Archangel. Using a polymer stock would also reduce the weight quite substantially, the rifle weighs like 7kg which quite a bit more than a rifle like that would actually require.
The more I learn about Finnish firearms and the modified Mosin's they produced it makes me appreciate even more the gun culture that my grandfather and great grandfather tried to instill in myself as a young man. Trust your hardware, know it was made to the best abilities of the time, and to take your time and make one shot count.

7.62 Tkiv 85 is the sniper rifle that is based on the russian mosing-nagant. The Tkiv 85 is the standard sniper rifle for finnish defence forces and it is really nice to shoot aswell. With love from Finland.
I was in sniper reserve cource few years ago... We were shooting with Tkiv 85. With this gun i shoot every bullet in ring 25mm in 150m during weekend. When i shoot with my own hunting rifles with basic cartridge what i can buy in store, there are quite often some flyes, and i thought that i am bad shooter.

My first hunting rifle was a Carl Gustaf 6.5x.55 Swedish Mauser. still is my favorite rifle very flat shooting cartridge, deadly accurate using Nosler tipped rounds.
I have always loved the Swedish Mausers since I was a small kid thanks to a friend of my fathers who was a gunsmith from Sweden in San Diego back in the 50s. Amazing shooting rifles. Shot an AR10 chambered in 6.5 x 55. Never thought to ask the guy how he built that rifle as the Swede round is longer than the 308.
The finnish Tkiv 85 sniper rifle is based on a mosin and It's still in use, so yes.

The 1891 Argentine Mauser is not the first Mauser. The 1871 and 71/84 was around before the 91 and sold abroad.

I collect guns over here in the UK but for the historical side not shooting anymore. I am ex British Para and was a Sniper in the Falklands in 1982 .so I am quite envious of what you have in your collection and the prices you can buy them for in the US.

I have an 1896 6.5 X 55 the bayonet nose piece and rear sight was missing and I purchased Nos original parts and was able to attach the bayonet and frog. A very accurate rifle and fun to shoot. Better than my British 303 Enfield unissued brand new (1943) a very flat shooter. I bagged a trophy Elk with my Swedish Mauser 6.5 a true Cadillac of a rifle truly. And as you said not cheap to shoot as 20 rounds at $74.00 Trophy Grade Nosler Ammunition for hunting not plinking absolutely.
I had a gun buff friend who had a large number of military surplus guns on his walls and especially in his den. He had wooden dowels in the barrel tips to keep out dust and he had air purifiers in each room to keep dust down. His wife did not mind saying he was a very good husband and she was happy to let him sit in the middle of all those guns. She insisted he hire a house cleaner every two weeks to vacuum around all those guns on the wall. She was a looker and he was one of the happiest men I ever knew.

Always loved the Lee Enfield .303, especially the #4 Mk. 2. I recall when you could buy one of these great guns at Eaton's department Store in downtown Toronto for $10. Now, at a well known Ontario auction, in good condition, any Enfield goes for at least $600.
I have a Long Branch No.4 MkI* that is superbly accurate, but I think the days of $600 Lee Enfields is long gone, at least in the U.S. and if you want one in excellent condition.

Our Sniper Rifles were both Civilian Hunting Rifles, That also are excellent and very Accurate: The M-700 Remington and The M-70 Winchester Both Outstanding, very accurate Rifles.
I was a sniper for a few years. My go to rifle was a Winchester Model 70, in 300 Win Mag. Made a 1500yd shot with it.
Always loved shooting the M14 while in the Seabees. 1st expert on rifle before going to m16. Then 1911 exp quals. Love to have all these firearms in collection, but I def would want an M14 in my collection 💪😊
The 700 has always been my go to rifle! From what I hear, the USMC had one of the best and most guarded secret modification program for their rifles. If I remember, the M700s were a long action, so they had adaptability between most cartridge's (i.e. 30-06 or 308). I know the Rem 700s in the Army was the M24 platform.

When i was 14, the Mauser from Argentine military were sold in barrels at grocery stores. In cosmoline, they had never been used. The local store had cleaned up one and it like a palace guard weapon for marching. High grade delux finish with jewelled bolt. Hard wood and mirror like blueing. Cost $20. Dad said i was too young! Could have a dozen , cleaned and saved 11 and sold them and bought a nice speedboat when i retired from Army a few years ago. I didd get a new Swede from 1900 with the click round target sight for $80 and another from 1944 with dings. Sold the dinged one a few years ago for about 400. They were both tack drivers. Really enjoy this channel.

An odd rifle I've found to also be very accurate as well (although underpowered) believe it or not was the 1891 Carcano. Although the Carcano has a poor reputation (Since the JFK assassination) as a poor and inaccurate rifle. I found it to be the first rifle I could easily strike an 18-inch target at 1,500 yards.
But again, like you mentioned in your video, the 6.5 caliber is a perfect design.

Mike Matusek There is sure nothing wrong with Carcanos. I lucked into a nice stash of 7.35 and took three like that to the range with my son last summer, along with a 6.5 Truppe Especiale just like them. That was one of the best times I have had at the range ever. The steel is primarily Czech. They were all so well made that there is no nee to serialize the bolts on them, since they all fit each other. Gain twist rifling makes them plenty accurate too. The don't have the smoothest actions in the world for sure, but they are fine rifles. So under-appreciated..
how do the remington 700 and M14 fare when compared to these rifles in accuracy??? was wondering also of WWII era rifles like the Lee enfield and the karabiner 98k???

About two weeks after you published this video, I went with my son to the Northern CMP store in Camp Perry. We satyed on base at the military rate and saved a tiny bit of money for a WW2 M1D (in the 2.5 million SN). I paid $939 for it and having been born in Greece, I was looking for an M1 that came back from Greece. Then my cousin took me to a gun store and I found a new production M1 Garand. Got that for $995. Ofcource I was rubbed by my son, who for graduation and RN license board present, he demanded one of the M1s. I gave him the new production. He' ll get the other in a few years any way. My eyes are not working the same as when I was in the army, accuracy is secondary at this point. I like nice looking rifles. You cannot beat the M1 Garant or the M1A in that respect. Unfortunately CMP has been zero balance on all but a few high dollar sniper model M1's for several months. I looked at getting one a couple of years ago but didn't pull the trigger (ha) when I had the chance. I know they've been zero balance a couple of times before too and found some more somewhere, but who knows this time. In the meantime, CMP being sold out has pushed up the asking prices of M1s already out there. Eventually I'd like to get at least a service grade but I don't want to pay a temporarily (I hope) inflated price for one.

I have all these rifles except for the Ljungman. My 1903 Springfields will shoot as well at least as any on your table. One more thing - a good 28/30 will shoot at least as well as an M39. More weight in the barrel and less in the stock. I won't mention my preference for the GEW-11 over the k31 at the range, lol. But - I sold my k31s for a reason.
Since you went on a mini Enfield rant, I picked up a post war 1948 No.4 Mk1 in unissued condition a few months back and man...she is just a dream to shoot. I've seen a lot of Enfields with rusty ladder apertures and the whole 9, but knowing I own one (even being a post war example) in essentially mint condition is a great feeling.

Well as a sharpshooter trained Finn here, we were practicing with the Tkiv 85 (tarkkuuskivääri 85), based on the mosin nagant.
At 5:10, M96's stock disc reads: bore diameter 6.51 (triangle on #1); bore condition at 3rd condition. #1 indicates the top bore condition.

+Simon Doge Yup. Still in service but they are not in so good shape after long service. TKIV 2000 or Sako TRG-43 is the main sniper rifle. All tough the TKIV 2000 is waste cause Finnish sniper training is bad right now.
+Larry Finnish sniper training is actually really good. My friend was there and was not touched a gun before military service and after he came from there he is now a really good shot. And a plus, the finnish military is using The Dragunov in training and on the other things.
The Finnish snipers now days don't operate as classical snipers. They work with the platoon as a marksman and alone inside the fighting force. The rifle is mainly used as a "long range support weapon". Typical sniper example one trained in Kymeen jääkäripatalijoona shoots less than 20 rounds trough TRG. The trainigs lasts about one month. Dragunov is also discontinued rifle but some units still use it (example Rajajääkäri-joukot). The third rifle is RSTKIV 2000 which is barret m82 which the Finnish military doesn't have proper ammunition so the accuracy is something like 2 MOA. There are some groups that give extensive sniper training like Utti's Special yager-regiment, Immola's Special Frontier yager-comppany and the Combat divers.

I got Mojo sights on my 1886/11 swiss rifle. Shot 372 out of 400 in a 200 yard slow fire highpower match. I love that gun. I had a Swedish Mauser that was stolen. If you ever come across a 1923 with a timney trigger, and non standard sights installed, it could very well be mine.
TKIV-85, made by Valmet in the eighties, used old mosins for parts including the receivers. Some of the parts might date from 19th century.

The nice thing about these rifles is you don't have to worry about a gas tube when you have to substitute black powder when smokeless powder becomes scarce. How to substitute black powder to make a powder measure pull apart a round you need to convert, mark the bottom of the bullet seat, then measure 1mm below the seat mark and cut off at the lower mark (1mm below the bullet seat mark) now you have a black powder measure. The finer the grain of black powder burns faster. You need that space below the bullet seat because of compression of the powder may cause the primer to not ignite the powder. Some firearms are originally configured for black powder. The 45/70 is one that comes to mind. You need 70 grains of black powder. The thing about black powder is smokeless powder is 3 times more powerful than black powder. So converting newer weapons you don't have to worry about over pressuring the firearm unless for some weapons that were originally designed to use black powder and you over fill the casing with black powder. As things after a SHTF situation bolt action, lever action and blowback operations black powder will work in. A weapon with a gas tube you might get 5 shots off before your gas tube gets blocked and you have to manually cycle the weapon. Having a Chronometer is helpful when you need to start using the different types of smokeless powder. If you do reloading you have a set of specifications. Let's say you run out of Ramshot True Blue. I don't use 5.56 rounds because I shoot from my left side. The brass from an AR15 or M16 gets thrown back into my face. However my 5.7 x 28 rifle and pistol I can use the 5.56 bullet and some of the powder charge from the 5.56 rounds to reload my 5.7 x 28mm brass. Just have to find out, using the Chronometer, the proper amount of powder needed. I hope that I gave everyone some good information that I received from another person who does reloading. I have very few rifles that have a gas tube. And one rifle in .308 has a gas rod and spring system for delayed blowback operation. As the 2 rods are pushed back to extract and reload the rifle chamber. When the rods push back forward it blows the extra gas back out of the gas port and cleans the gas port and the 1st rod section of the gas tube. This rifle, although it has a gas port and gas tube setup it won't jam or plug up the gas operating system.
So the gold circle on the end of the Swedish rifles is used to determine the "quality" of the barrel. I believe top numbers on the circle are used to determine the level of barrel erosion. The lower numbers which ranged from 0-3 determines the quality of the bore over time. Gunsmiths would indicate this by an indentation each time it was sent in for repair or replacement. Once the numbers were marked high enough it meant the barrel would need to be replaced. Earlier models simply mark which type of rifle it is (training, infantry, cavalry).
Furthermore, if you're looking to purchase a swedish surplus rifle it's good to look at the last known barrel quality. If it's marked with a 3, and higher numbers on the top portion, it isn't your best bet for an accurate surplus rifle.

What you have to remember about the 98s is that many of them were used extensively in Ww1, mothballed and then used extensively in Ww2 to the bitter. Rifles used by the losing, and out numbered side of two long, desperate, total wars tend to have more shots run through them and less care and cleaning in the field. There are also less available which would have been unissued, so barrel wear can be more prevalent. That said German military doctrine squad tactics were based around their superior belt fed machine guns, with riflemen in a support role. That said, those 98s have a lot of use on them and I'm impressed by their accuracy and reliability.

Concerning the GP11, we dont produce it anymore since 1990 if I'm not mistaken.
We might re-produce some in the future and maybe it won't be berdan, but it will probably be closer to a RUAG match than a GP11.
Since 2012 the Stg 57 has been officialy droped out of the reserve of the army so the only service weapons using the ammo are Mg51 machineguns, it's not enough to motivate the army to re-start production, they will probably kick those out of service too sooner or later because of the change in doctrine.
For the 57 you'll probably see a batch comming, but they took the decision to destroy most of them. To give you a scale there were approximately 1 million of 57's produced, with 8 (yes, 8) barels per piece (yes, we tend to stockpile a little). So they are now destroying approximately 5-6 million new match barells because the leftists won. Going to puke, comming back in a few sec......
But don't worry too much for the GP11, in the 1990's when we stopped production there was something like 8-10 BILLIONS of rounds in stock, so considering our primers are the weak point of our ammo by far (give it 50 years max) you'll find GP11's that won't go off before not finding GP11's at all.

The brass disk has something to do with barrel inspection and proofing, if I recall, it had something to do with the wear and throat erosion.
I found a match grade Enfield that was the only one with the numbered brass buttplate. I got it from Turner's in San Bernardino CA for 49 bucks back in 96. I took it and disassembled it, then soaked the stock in ammonia removing the crappy coating that was on it. Then with steel wool it was rubbed with Cherry-Wood stain matching all pieces. Afterwards verathane clearcoated. When assembled it looks stunning, and with handloaded rounds shoots 3100 fps and flat stacking them at 300 yds. The farthest I've shot was on the Navajo reservation in Winslow AZ, at 5000 yds and hitting within 3ft iron sighted. It's a good testament to the craftsmanship of the time with all those rifles, and the men who carried them into battle.

Great video. I'm actually going to clean up my grandfathers K31 this month and I'm really looking forward to getting that bad boy running again. Right now I'm just doing a marathon of your videos as I have discovered that my SG 550 is just caked in carbon, so I'm cleaning that up as long as I have the spare time.

I have a K31 and just bought a AG42B. Bought the AG42 because a friend handed me a ton of 6.5x55 swiss brass. I'm a reloader so I like reloading for my surplus rifles.

My Ljungman is a tack driver but my model 96 will outshoot just about anything. My Dad bought a whole bunch of Gustav Mausers and some were nearly new. I got to keep 2 of them. The accuracy is mind boggling.
The fins still got steam rolled in the end lol.
