I do shoot fairly often, sporting clays. I shoot SxS and over-under for that though. My brother shoots an 870 for clays, and all things being equal it is generally fine, with the only issue being the extractor started going out and jamming up, but that didn't happen for years and thousands of rounds. I like 870's just fine, but I know in recent years Remington has had QC issues as they've been handling bankruptcy etc. Mossberg...hasn't.

The Remington 870 is the Greatest shotgun of all time!!! It’s a solid design, extremely reliable, and one of the smoothest actions on a pump you’re ever going to find. For all the issues you have, I gotta say it’s you, not the gun.
You need to spend more time with it, get some training.

???? I retired from police work after 30 years and your comments are a surprise. The 870 is the gold standard. The new 870 action is just a rehash of the gun first made in the 1950s. You need to put some muscle into working that slide. Not sure what shotshell you used but 20-25 yards is pushing 00 Buck perhaps you need to try some slugs. It's a home defense gun right?, up close and personal, from my experience few people own a home with a room 25 yards across. You admit you aren't much of a shotgun shooter perhaps some dedicated range time will change your opinion. With that credential I'd be hesitant to review anything, particularly the best selling pump shotgun of all time. They aren't carried 24/7 in tens of thousands of cop cars all across the country for no proven reasons.

I prefer the 21" vent-rib barrel with the remchoke option. I use the extended turkey choke with loads from #6 to #8 for a yard/home defense gun. With the slightly longer barrel and the extended choke....my shells are always on target. I feel that even with the lighter load....I will be putting more lead on target than using buck of any number and a cylindar choke. Plus, with the rem-choke system...the barrel becomes much more versitile for other stuff.
I've seen Hickock45 use his short barrel for really fun slug shooting. He hits targets that are pretty far away too.
You can totally trick out an 870 with tons of great items. I would also recommend a non-MiM extractor...they are a pretty cheap upgrade. And you can keep the MiM for a backup if ever needed.
The Hogue pistol grip and forend are an awesome upgrade. I highly recommend it if you want a small house gun option. I have both...the yard gun and the house gun....just incase. Of course, both can be quickly reset to bird gun or deer gun in about 10 minutes.
I also recommend putting a light coating of gun grease on the Parkerized finish ever now and again. It will keep the scratches from rusting up on you....depending on the humidity level in your area.
    Thanks for the video!!

The reason the home defense shotgun doesn't have a sling is the same reason prison shotguns don't use slings.... during high stress situations the sling can get caught up/wrapped/tangled during the pumping action. Put a sling on your hunting shotgun never on your home defense shotgun.

The 870 has a ribbon spring ejector riveted to the receiver. The ejector can be recontoured for better ejection. The reviewer has little experience and it would be reasonable for him to consult some one with more experience.

  • @bodhisattvya
    @bodhisattvya 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

1.)This is why shotgun instructors tell you to pattern many different loads in your shotgun until you get one that patterns to your satisfaction. A shotgun barrel is just a hollow tube.2.)You're using cheap, imported buckshot. Try Federal FliteControl or the Hornady VersaTite Wad. You'll get a much tighter pattern than you would with unbuffered buckshot out of a shell. You might also try copper-plated shot that helps prevent pellet deformation.

The original Wingmaster is the F150 of the shotgun trade. Moddable to the extreme and absolutely reliable. That is a pretty typical pattern size for that type of ammunition at that range. The cheap buckshot like that is just pellets in a hull with a felt wad. They produce the largest patterns. If you want tighter you need to get a higher end hunting load that’s made with a shot cup and grex (buffering compound). Which will produce tighter patterns. And if you want the tightest patterns you need to buy federal flitecontrol or Hornady versatite loadings. Which will produce pretty absurdly tight patterns out to some pretty ridiculous ranges.

You obviously don't know what your talking about and should research before you talk crap. 1- Shotguns usually shoot high, 2- those patterns are pretty good for home defence. 3 - That ammo has no buffering in it at all, which will have a lot of spread.

  • @lckgilmo43

You know why it patterns like that? It's because the barrel that you have doesn't have a choke. You'll have to buy a barrel that can take chokes. If you want a tight pattern full choke will do it but you can't fire slugs. Use a improved cylinder choke. Then you can fire slugs and buckshot a little bit more accurately and completely safe.

More than likely, your problem is going to be your extractor Remington. I’ve been putting in Mim extractors get a solid metal extractor and I’m pretty sure your problem will go away. I had the same issues probably about after 50 rounds put through it from being brand new, I started having stove pipes and very weak extraction, although Remington 870 s don’t really have the greatest extractions are ejection anyway, but the upgraded extractor knock on wood has done the trick for me, and I haven’t had any problems since

The quality and reliability in the new remingtons is back... Any 870 made before 2021 and post 2000 is pretty much a gamble in terms of its mechanical reliability and workmanship. For almost 20 years, Remington limped along making weapons of dubious quality which was a terrible shame given the fact that the 870 was a great gun and among the best pump shotguns ever made. And don't even get me started on what they did to Marlin..🤬 Hopefully, Roundhill Group will stay committed to bringing back Remington's rep for quality products.

First, your Remington is fine. You are the reason your spreads look so scattered. You chose cheap ammo. You need to educate yourself on ammunition. If you don't want spreads, you need to purchase an ammo with a specially designed wad that reduces spread. Also, at 10 yards you were apparently flinching, causing your pellets to throw to the left.

The problem isnt the gun, its the soyboy reviewing it. I have one, and it works great!! Theres a reason law enforcement, and military stand by this beauty. If you dont want it sell it so a real man can shuck those shells.

Use #5 shot turkey loads... Good for self defense from 2 legged turkeys.

Okay don't blame the guns patterning because you only have an 18 1/2 inch barrel so it's not a beyond 10 , 20 or more yards kinda gun it's a home defense gun so it's a 7 yards and closer for better patterning !! I have a late 80's 870 magnum with a 21 inch barrel with the remchokes and I use the improved cylinder and have a lot better patterning then yours but also not at any distances further than 7 or 8 yards !!! I also think it's your cylinder bore that's giving you such a poor patterning !!!

He’s wanting it to do something it’s not designed for

Every single 870 made after about 2007 is fucking garbage.
I’ve got a 1980s Wingmaster Police kitted out for home defense. It’s a fantastic gun. The Remingtons made in the past 20 years are horrible quality.

I would never ever put a light on a 12 gauge pump. I don't want the bad guy knowing where I'm at. Lights, opticals, garage door openers are nothing but gimmicks for firearm novices. Racking the slide on a shotgun is a universal sound any criminal will recognize and he will be doing his damnest to get out of the house after hearing that sound, no flashlight needed. Everyone thinks they're on a swat team lol
