Duolingo should just link directly to your channel at this point, they explain none of this
RIGHT! It's so frustrating, this guy helps me so much with learning actual russian structure.
Duolingo is a game first, learning platform second, don't be surprised if they miss this stuff.
Fedya is a genius

love your channel, helps a lot
after *-и -у -ю -мя* always *neuter* as well
the hardest bit is *-ь* ending, most are feminine but can be masculine as well
What's up dear Israeli
it's not correct all the time for.ex. семя, земля are not neuter, бенгали is not neuter and ...
@@maiali6911 семя us neuter and земля doesn't end with -мя...
is the ending with д masc?
@@luckysstar777 probably yes.
I can't remember anything but diode-диод which is masc.
... ok. squad-взвод. factory-завод. ugly man - урод.
I think yes. 99% sure only masc.
This is incredibly helpful and I can't thank you enough, good sir....

This makes much more sense to me now! I am going back and redoing some old duo-lingo lessons that I completed. I understand now why the forms changed. I am so excited that things are starting to click! Thanks ! #BeFluentinRussian !
Well put together! спасибо

Thank you, I needed a refresher on that!
You are very helpful. I am saving to go to Russian in 2018.
Joesph Michael how was your trip
did you go?
Tell us about it
Very helpful, thank you
Helpful video. Thank you
This channel is the best
Thanks that was helpful
Such a clear explanation, tx!! :)
Thanks a lot for this...
Hi Fedor. Could you please start saying the names in russian of the topics you are discussing? This way it would be easier to learn while talking to other Russian speakers. For example you could say how to ask "What is gender of X?" or "Can you help me with conjugation of X". I would love to see that. Other idea I have is an explanation how to start writing cyryllic on computer keyboard and how to get used to it. Thanks :)
Even if i have 0 level your videos always useful thanks alot
Я 4 years late here but what a helpful video! Спасибо большое!
Thank you kind sir you have done me a great favour
Фёдор, кофе когда он впервые попал в Россию называли "Кофей" и по этому он стал мужского рода.
Кофий.
It was masculine like another drinks like чай, сок, etc. It was transformed later into кофе, but it still was masculine.
Nowadays in Russian language both masculine and neuter genders aren't a mistake. It's just because our people couldn't remember this exception too 😂 But masculine is a literary norm, while neuter is just colloquial and is a modern change. I don't like using кофе with neuter gender, and I like people who use it as masculine 😋
The history of the word кофе in Russian is quite complicated. Some say it's the other way around: first was gender and later came forms кофей/кофий but it wasn't common and at some point started to be considered voulgar in order to emphasize the difference between the strata (i.e. aristocrats, merchants, peasants, and bourgeois). The most propable version is that masculine gender comes not from gender of the word coffee in the language it was borrowed from but from influnce of french language (in which it's masculine) and culture on the upper class during XVIII-XIX centuries: coffee was accessible for aristocrats mostly and they usualy were French native speakers.
bruh guys its just masculine in french it became in russian too tho
I'm more curious of when "They" (presuming a government entity) attempted to change the gender of coffee that resulted in protest.
mb because drink is masc by default.
lol. beer, wine, champagne and "chacha" break my wisdom)
seems like alcoholics don't give AF)))
interesting. Are non masc drinks only alcoholic?
Спасибо
Спасибо большое 😊
Hii
Офигенно объяснил, особенно мне5 нравится что на ходу придумывал слова))
hey can you make vedio on ek 1 ,23 and 4 how to pronunce them this will be very helpfull for the russian language begginers
Favourite account for learning Russian:)
> "You can always look it up." -Here's my question: What do you recommend as reference sources for English speakers to look up details of Russian language? I have a history of going to Dictionary.com to look up English words, and I can use bing.com/translator (or translate.google.com), but I feel like there's something missing.
Это отлично
Спасибоооооо 👍👍👍👍
Спасибо bro. .bt I m a new student so my question is that your Russian consonant are same as we hv in English
i am watching this to be able to understand how to tell if a word that ends on -ь is feminin or masculine
*If it ends with hissing* (idk if it's called like that when translated into English) *consonant (ж, ш, щ, ч) before ь - it's definitely feminine.* (Russians btw learn this rule in another way: We learn that if noun ending with hissing consonant is in nominative case and feminine it ends with ь and in other situations you shouldn't add anything) *In other situations it's also often feminine, but not always, so you have to just learn it.*
a read somewhere (don't remember where) that кофе come from кофеин that's why it's masculine and not neutral
Thanks this confused me for a while
💚
Can neuter words end in ë?
if a word ends with -е, and its plural form ends with -я, would it be a feminant word ?
陈渝林 usually it would be a neuter gender. for example платье, солнце
❤✨
Ok
Кофе исторически был "кофей", оканчивается на согласную Й, оттуда и мужской род.
A question here:
"Are you saying that all russian words ending in consonants are masculine?"
But what exactly does it mean for them to be masculine or feminine? This is what I'm trying to figure out.
Adjectives and past tense verbs will change the endings according to the gender of nouns.
я думаю что кофе маскулинный потому что он сильный. ))))))))))))
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you know, my native language also has genders like this and feminine also ends in letter A haha
In french too haha
@@srsn9919 i though in French it was E for feminine words
@@anabeatrizbarreto33 There is no rule in french you have to learn everything by heart
i get it.
it's like takin a puch after sayin "muchachA"))
When you said masculine was consonants I thought feminine would be vowels. Boy was I wrong 🤣🤣
Лошадь, слякоть, грусть, смелость, глупость, радость , лопасть, пропасть, - это не исключение, а ещё одно правило которое ты не упомянул.
but what is the gender of a noun that ends in у or ю?
and when to use the different gendered forms of "это" (like is "это ручка" correct even though we are using the neuter form of "это" and "ручка" is a feminine noun?)
If you are a male and your name ends in a feminine letter is the noun treated as masculine or feminine? (like the name "Luca")
I always thought that Luca is a boy's name & Lucy is girl's name. Correct me, if I'm wrong))
In russian we have the proper name "Caша" wich is a tender form either for "Александр" ("Alexander" - boy)) or for ("Alexandra" - girl))
the only problem with "Caша" is to replace it with correct pronoun, ("he" or "she"?), if you're not acquainted before or don't know who's that "Саша"))
*This is a really good video! In my channel Russian language learners can find some lessons for beginners too (including some lessons about noun gender). Welcome!*
Russian language have no nouns thats ends on у or ю. Usualy it's foreing names and loanwords.
ЭтО ручка - this is a pen. ЭтА ручка - чёрная - this pen is black
Male names allways masculine and female names allways femenine no matter what endings thay have
There are no nouns in Russian ending in у or ю. These letters are just used in Russian nouns to mark dative case (for masculine nouns) or accusative case (for feminine nouns)
@@anabeatrizbarreto33 There are some actually (рагу, иглу, эму, меню), but they are indeed rare exceptions and I think all of them were adopted from other languages :)
Since he didn’t explain plurals i will explain it words that are plural always and will always 100% will end with an и or an ы
What is Neuter Gender?
What about nouns that acts like verbs like:
Спасибо! Is it different if a male or a female say it, if so: please make a video about that.
"Спасибо" is a middle gender.
I mean it's neuter gender.
It makes no difference, who says it.
Thank you
@@user-nc4pb3so3x Good! so if I write questions as a woman in Russian, or my older son does on this mobile, it won't make a difference.
а слово ДВЕРЬ как определить?)))
What about "печь", "ночь", "помощь" ? these are not exceptions. then it’s more correct to say that the feminine is “а,я,ь”
There are some confusing topics with spelling
Кот & Кошка
Кофе наверное было от слова кофеин - и оно мужского рода.
So much easier than in German, where genders are completely random.
Kофе is masculine because its a 'taked word' from another country
Duolingo is just good for tests and practicals they don't teach ,questions and answers
Is мать feminine?
Yes. Talking about people and family, all the words has the same gender as a person, that they describe.
(sorry, my English is not very good 🙃)
@@Kycko_ большое спасибо
I broke my mind guessin how people gonna learn that.
Lol. I didn't mind such a simple rules.
Lol. I couldn't remember the Coffee exception
And I'm gonna die trying to remember any other. SHOW THEM TO RUSSIANS!!!! )))
bruh moment
Since Iam Masquline, And Directly Knowing That My Guiter Is a She,,, I Should Go date with her
It should be added that the appeal to a human in the neuter gender is an insult. Maybe this is very hard for Russians to accept the idea of transgenderism.
