I heard a good take on this, it's probably a bad idea to go after kickers right now with Fielding actively on the roster right now. Wait for the season to be over first.
@ I don’t understand that logic. It’s not as if Fielding doesn’t know he won’t be the starter next season anyway. Why wait for a “good time” to find a top replacement?
Merry Christmas Saban We still are greatful for your retirement!! 😂 Blessed to have Jeremiah Smith is an understatement. He's a gift that never stops giving.
I don’t agree with the take on defensive tackle. Those guys behind the guys now were all high recruits. They haven’t been in a position to say that they can or can’t do it. So on that one I completely trust the staff. We need a damn kicker
They could definitely use a 340lbs+ Nose Tackle sized D-Lineman or two because the only player similar to that on the roster is Kayden McDonald. Even if they don't convert the defense to Knowles' 3 Man Front, with the Jack, they will still need another player to clog the interior to stop the run, eat double teams, collapse the pocket, and for short yardage/goal line situations. Every other Interior D-Lineman on the roster is a 3 Tech or 3-4 DE, so if McDonald gets injured they are scrooged and it's not realistic he can play without being rotated.
Locklyn could turn Donaldson into a righteous fullback, and two RB schemes could be deadly for opposing teams, and the extra protection for Sayin will be comforting, and our TE room is full of TEs, not projects to make TEs out of other players. Thurman and Klaire is a natural 12 man line. Merry Christmas, Buckeye nation and to you three and family. Go Bucks!!!! Ho, Ho, Hooo.
If they could pick up a stud Center they could bump Hinzman back to Guard, his most dominant position and he could still be the backup Center in an emergency. But then that may cause Tegra, Siereveld, Montgomery, or some combination of them to jump in the Portal. They know they need to go somewhere to play to get noticed by NFL Scouts because they all have sports agents now.
Eleven Warriors film study host noted that OSU, who is know as a zone run team, DID NOT RUN ONE ZONE PLAY. Our genius coaches finally got their heads out of their butts. Just maybe they finally figured out that the over-reliance on zone put our O line at a disadvantage where our guys over the years have been consistently caught on their heels, surrendering leverage early and often by letting the defenders under their pads with the inevitable TFL and LOS ending up on our side of the ball. Urban Meyer noted the latter on BTN in a look at the Michigan game film. This has given the appearance of our big guys being soft over the years. On Saturday our guys were firing off the ball, staying under the pad level of the opponent, establish leverage against the defenders, resulting in control of the LOS. Note I did not say domination. That's coming if they keep it up, but the coaches have to stay out of their way. Has anyone pondered the question why our best O lineman is a 3 star transfer Alabama? Could it be that Day and Frye did not have enough time to screw him up like the rest of our big guys? Montgomery was outstanding Saturday and Hinzman has been excellent, especially at left guard, so why have they been on the sideline for most of the year? Could it be that our genius coaches have been recruiting and evaluating starters on the stupid, bad habit developing, zone blocking schemes that our big guys have not been able to consistently execute for years, so they really don't know what they have in non-zone run plays. The waste of all that skill position talent in Judkins and Henderson drives me crazy when I think about it.

Literally the only player in defense , who when they come on the field you notice in a bad way is constantly Kanu. Feels like he makes more bad plays than good and if he was heavily in the rotation next year I would much rather that be some of these portal players
A 3-4 defense in the BIG10 is not a good idea I could see it being used occasionally but never full time they keep recruiting 225lb DEs It can't work as your base defense but they will need another stud in the middle that can collapse the pocket
Get out of 1999. 3-4 multiple front defense is what modern football is run on. Michigan just won a national title with a 3-4 defense. Saban dominated college football with a 3-4 defense. And the infamous 2011 Bama defense only gave up 600 yards rushing all year. It’s still a top rush defense scheme
Nobody plays any specific “base” defenses all the time these days. They are all variations of a theme depending on what the given opponent’s offensive schemes and philosophies are. Don’t get excited.
Iggy could raise his draft stock immensely if he comes back and cuts down on the Holding/PI Penalties. He has the attributes to be a stud lockdown Corner, especially with all the experience he has.
I think players are waiting to see what happens Saturday night. If they lost, Ryan Day was probably gonna get fired. He didn’t lose so they’re signing.
I hope Ryan Day gets an elite field goal kicker for Christmas. He may be on the team now if Rob Keys can develop Nick McLarty into an elite field goal kicker and weapon as a punter.
QB: I really think OSU MUST get an experienced QB with proven track record in Portal - cannot just rely on 3 guys who have not played a meaningful snap yet‼️
If that was true, then we should just stop recruiting QBs out of HS. Everyone has to get their first start somehow. Our room next year will have two #1 QB recruits. Can’t ask for much better
Maybe, but if you were one of the top five tight ends in the country and you had a chance to play even part time for the Buckeyes and get paid… not a tough decision.
Well if they are soon going to be required to spend at least $20M yearly on their roster, from the recent NCAA Settlement, they might as well start now and budget to be in the top tier to remain competitive.
The team is absolutely moving away from using two true defensive ends that can be solid against power/counter, while also providing some pass rush. They will be looking for more 3-4 outside linebacker/wide 9 defensive end types (Abdul Carter) on the edge who excel at rushing the passer while being able to drop into space sometimes. Hicks will be used in a Jalon Walker type role, inside linebacker on standard downs and edge rusher on passing downs. Defensive line will be more 3-4 defensive end type players.
No, they aren't. They will run forms off all defenses. Their base will still be 4-3. You need to pay attention to throw coach and the games. No where has Day said they would run it as a base defense.
