  • Ohio State coach Ryan Day has already given his first press conference previewing the rematch with Oregon, so THE Podcast Daily is shifting gears from the usual Talking Tuesday into some takeaways. Bill Landis and Austin Ward chat about the offensive line rotation, the carryovers the Buckeyes can take from the first round victory over Tennessee and ways the mindset might be different for the program now that it has again proven itself as a viable national-title contender.

It's bonkers that after the quarterfinals either Oregon or Ohio state will be out of the tournament, and Penn state (lost to both) will be in the semifinal without beating a power 4 team... 🙄 😂

9:32 I've been in & out of Southern message boards over the last 3 years and I regularly consume their podcasts. There is a prevailing (and inaccurate) thought-mainly because of the losses to Michigan-that Ohio State is a “soft” program. Leading up to this past game, (some) Tennessee players had the mentality that they were just going to run right through the Buckeyes and plant a flag a midfield after an easy victory.

Hi Jerrico, there is a great film breakdown over on Eleven Warriors where the host claims that we did not try one of the dumb-ass zone blocking run plays, that our guys just can't execute because of the leverage disadvantage it leaves our guys in on contact with a defender. This is why we appear soft on the O line and have for years, because we have been a "zone" team. Counter or other non-zone running plays allow our guys to fire off the ball and engage the defender in a more favorable, below shoulder pad level leverage point. Basic football.

Even though Bill picked the Vols, he is still by far the best on the show. I appreciate his humility in admitting he was wrong. He always has great thoughts. Austin’s arrogance continues. I have never heard him say he was wrong. He is the least qualified to critique coaches and players yet he always finds negatives. He needs to own up to being wrong as well as admit his level of competence and expertise is sooo low compared to Ryan Day and his staff. He just sounds like the 10% fringe.

There is a great film breakdown over on Eleven Warriors where the host claims that we did not try one of the dumb-ass zone blocking run plays our guys look foolish attempting. This is why we appear soft on the O line and have for years, because we have been a "zone" team for years under Day and Frye. Counter or other non-zone running plays allow our guys to fire off the ball and engage the defender in a more favorable, below shoulder pad level leverage point. Basic football. Because we are "zone team", we evaluate our starting lineup based on zone performance, so we really don't know what we have, then guys like Hinzman and Montgomery kick-ass and we wonder why we did not see them all year long. The Vols were expecting more of the soft zone blocking and it showed in there confusion when our big guys came at them low and fast. This is obvious basic football stuff that has escaped Day and Frye for years, so I and many others on the "lunatic fringe" have lost patience with this clown show of a coaching staff.

The Bucks, preparing for the Rose Bowl, and that has different concerns, and different discernment, for different persons. Fans who can forget all of Ryan's short comings, and his inept coaching, and his failures in big games, these fans are willing to fall in line with his historical failures, and this transition is fomented, predicated on one win at Tennessee. And yes a solid win, coming one game, after the loss to Michigan, a historical loss, possibly the worse loss in the whole of the team recording. Sooo...we have these hood winked fans who are driven by emotion, Ryan continues his blundering inconsistent meandering, and all while being promoted by fans who enjoy a sense of blindness, and yes, fantasy is less painful than excepting the reality of Ryan's boomerang coaching style. In closing, the Buckeye fans, those who prefer reality over fiction, they have there guard up, they are waiting for the next bomb 💣 drop, the tires are soon to fly off of the clown car, and of course Ryan will be doing the driving, when it happens, the emotional snow flakes will be exposed, and the rational fans will say, I TOLD YOU SO!!!
