I'm around 160 with about 35 -40 lbs of luggage. No racks. I also was regularly bottoming the front. I had my local shop replace the oem spring with a straight rate spring that was quite a bit longer. He was able to remove all but one of the shims. The forks sit much further up in the stroke during static sag, and I haven't bottomed out since then. So far, so good on the rear at my weight and load. I've done the SM500 twice now on my 390. Once completely stock other than skidplate and pegs, and then again with the new fork springs, AX41 front, 14 tooth sprocket, and FuelX. Man, what a difference. Thanks goes to you and @ADVMatt for beta testing most every mod. 👍👍
Hello Nate, the SM500 is my favorite ride on the 390. I need to run it again in the spring with an actual decent tire. (I had a bad bearing in my spoked wheel, had to go back to the cast with an 8K+ TMM) It sounds like you have heavily farkled you 390. I was running a larger rear sprocket, I will try the 14T front next time,
Totally agree!, higly recommended These Hyperpro progressive front springs and rear shock are absolutely the best there is. I do not have the rear shock with the external reservoir, but the emulsion rear shock (also adjustable). I paid around $800,- It improves handling in cornering ánd braking as well. By the way, this company is located in the small village of Werkendam, The Netherlands and they make everything themselves. I live just 8 miles from them 🙂.
Hello DCB, thats amazing! I love to hear from people where interesting things are made. I met a fellow in Pennsylvania that lived in the town they make the 390 Adventure! The suspension parts are so good, I recommend them to anyone with the bike. Its a HUGE change for the better. Frank
I live in the Algarve, my g/f is from Breda (we often stay with her brother in Breda) My question is… can they fit the springs if I visit their factory ?
Right on! Upgraded to the Hyperpro progressive front springs and the reservoir rear shock. HUGE improvement in off road handling. Still dialing in the comp. and rebound on the front but, noticeable difference.
Hello Dan, I need to tweak mine when not loaded, I have it set for full camping gear, and its harsh when I take the bags off. Time to stop being lazy! - Frank
Great video. You covered some really important aspects to the suspension and setup. The stock shock is sprung really well, it just doesn't have great damping. Ouch, the new price is $999. Well, others can benefit from our experience.
Hello Matt, I do not regret the extra $$$ I paid to have it so soon after release. I am glad it's coming down though. It's hard to recommend a truly premium priced item. - Frank
Great video! Thank you for sharing, Frank. I am 150lbs ish but yet still bottom out when during aggressive off-road (with full off-road gears), probably it's time for me to look at the hyperpro spring upgrade, including the rear shock.
Hello Max, I have two recommendations for trail tires: Front: AX-41 - Just amazing on road, and off. My favorite tire. Its never stuck and still wllows me to enjoy the road. Rear: MItas E-07+ - Lasts forever, amazing on road, amazing offroad. Its what I have on for the second set now. I have not tried the AX-41 rear yet, (I have one) but I have not heard that it is a long-lasting tire but is amazing while it lasts. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Hello Max, Thank VERY much for ther kind words Max. I am just trying to have fun here, but I do sincerely appreciate it when others enjoy what I do. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Hi I recently purchased a 2021 KTM 390 and definitely like the idea of replacing the springs and possibly replacing the rear shock but my question for you is not related to your video, I’ve noticed your front fender is this a stock fender or an aftermarket upgrade… please advise.
I haven't been 150# since Nixon* was deciding whether to buy TDK or Maxell tape. So far, I haven't abused my bike as much as you do. I'll save the bucks for new tires ... or socks. thx S * he was a president ... of the U.S. ... ... of America! geez, you young f*rts

Great video.
I would like more trail oriented tyres for my 390.
Please may I ask ? Any recommendations?

@@OneOldManRiding Thank you for taking the trouble to write 👍🏻
Sir, I like the way your express things! (Many of your countrymen make great ADV and bike videos, but are verbose !)
