      I did do the carnivore diet for about 6 weeks, Yui. If you search my name and "carnivore diet," a long article should come up on one of my other sites.
      At the end of the day, I'm glad I gave it a try in the context of the situation I'm combatting. But I ultimately concluded that it's not right for me. However, I would say that I am still in the realm of carnivorish.
      I'll keep a list of things to ask Ron about this next time we chat and put this one on there. He has some good dietary suggestions in the Black Belt program as well, though ultimately personal testing is the key.

    What a great interview! I met Ron in Dallas several years ago. His passion for memory is incredible. His work and skills are simply brilliant.
    I spent 3 months at Jerry Lucas's ranch in California back in 1978. I was in college and took a semester off to go and study memory. I later went to work for Jerry in setting up seminars for him. I eventually started teaching part of the seminars myself.
    I opened my segment by sharing a story of the first telephone number that I attempted to memorize. To this day, I still know that phone number 43 years later. I also demonstrated memorization of the books of the Bible and even the genealogy of Jesus. (I would demonstrate it by reciting it forward, backward, and by listed ordinal number.)
    The method Jerry taught me was studied in great detail by the psychology department of the University of Arkansas. They invited me to come there and meet with a group of professors that were involved with the study project. I was given the chance to demonstrate the method by having them read a passage from the New Testament and me telling them what book and chapter they were in.
    Ron and Anthony have carried on what Jerry, Harry Lorayne, and Kevin Trudeau started many years ago. Thanks so much for doing this video and sharing it.

      It's so great that you had these experiences. And fantastic about this Bible demonstration. That's a great way to test memorization without having to recite everything verbatim.
      Have you maintained this memorization since then?

    Competition is mentioned in this interview a few times, in a friendly way. The word originates from the Latin "cum" (together) +petere (to strive). Nobody can play tennis alone, and so by both people playing, they each become better at tennis. Competition, in its original sense, is almost the exact opposite of how we think of it today.

    This video made me excited that I registered for the USA Memory Championship because I learned that I want to learn things I can use to help people. For instance, being a part-time nonstrologist now when I pray for people, I use sanskrit. Right now I am memorizing a mantra using an outdoor memory palace. Your pillar technique is helping with this.

      Wow - that's great. It's a very beautiful mantra.
      I could be wrong, but the logic of Advaita strongly suggests that all there ever was, was your life.
      This is one of the meanings of the old Zen prompt to try and remember your face before you were born. All that comes up (for most of us) is consciousness itself. Long live the "Eternal" Now!

I bought Harry's book in the 70's and did the Kevin Trudeau Mega Memory course in the 80's. I still have the little book of name links that came with the course. Can I also mention the great Derren Brown book Tricks of the Mind which triggeredmy return to memory training. Another magician/ memoriser. Thanks for a great interview yet again Anthony

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, Tricks of the Mind is great, and for many reasons. Very cool book. I wonder if Derren Brown has been interviewed about memory very much. That would be incredible to hear more about!

    • @kevingregory3498
      @kevingregory3498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AnthonyMetivierMMM Thanks for your reply Anthony. I think Derren is slightly averse to too much publicity and is a genuinely humble man. He is also now writing more about happiness via the Stoic principles of which I am also a fan. He has, through his agent, sanctioned me using his variation of the Major system if I were to set up a coaching course. I'm currently doing a course called Sellwhatyouknow which is heavily marketing orientated but nevertheless has a complete range of tools for someone like me who has mostly worked in the offline world. I would like to start something on the lines of the Livelong Lifelong Learning Club or Elsie for short! The seahorse would be our emblem ( hippocampal connotations).
      I'm not sure if I would be faken seriously as although I consider myself a student of memory and use it when I can, I've never entered the competitions (I don't have a competitive nature rather a co operative one) or any early life learning difficulties which seems to be a reoccurring theme amongst people like Ron White, Jim Kwik, Dominic O'Brien etc. Do you have any suggestions for me? Regards Kevin

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Kevin.
      I'm not sure what you mean by being sanctioned by Brown, but if it's an online business you want, here are two tips:
      1) Advice is the worst vice. Avoid taking it.
      2) Hire a business coach as soon as possible. Find the person who has the business you can to achieve for yourself and get them to walk you through it.
      I've followed those principles myself, and the only thing I would change is starting with both of those two principles sooner.
      Does this way of looking at things help?

    Thanks to both of you for this conversation! It is valuable to see a glimpse into the way your minds work.
    My method for cards uses the major system but a little differently than what you guys mentioned. Each suit is a number (spades is 1, hearts 2, clubs 3 and diamonds 4). I then place the number of the card in front of the number of the suit. So, when I see a 9 of Diamonds it is the number 94 (which for me is a pear.) The 9 of clubs is 93 (a bomb). The face cards are different groups of people (spades are cartoons, hearts are family members, diamonds are rich people, clubs are star trek characters.) Perhaps, we can benefit from each other's ideas...

    Hello, Anthony! :)
    It's great to see you and Ron White!
    I love the top memory myth mentioned by Ron: "It doesn't mean your're a memory expert, you can catch everything in memory when you're not focused on."
    I've got some peer pressure when they knew that I can memorize huge amount of information. They expect more from me. :)
    I would feel embarassed when I couldn't answer them accurately.
    But I learned to ask myself these questions:
    1. Did I intentionally memorize the information that I have forgotten?
    2. If yes, did I apply the Magnetic Memory Method diligently? (e.g. Kogcaves)
    If the answer is "No" to either two questions, I will just shrug it off and move on. :)
    I appreciate Ron sharing his story on how he actually memorized the thousands of names.
    It reminds me to develop or adjust my existing memory strategy (MMM, thanks to you, Anthony) depending on the type of information I would need to memorize.
    I am shy to say this, but I have gotten another promotion at my work because of MMM. (If I could recall it correctly, I have posted a comment before and I think it was your birthday when I got my first promotion.)
    Thank you so much, Dr. Anthony Metivier! :)

      Yes, I've experimented with that at various times. I still prefer the speed and haptic benefits of drawing them, though. Part of the memory benefits for me come from reconstructing journeys in minimal ways that force you to work with only the details you remember.
      I actually have to count how many words my Sanskrit comes up to. I wonder how close it is to the names. Even if the volume is close, I'm not sure I could accurately spell it all because I've memorized the sound and meaning only thus far. It would be interesting to see how I might need to change the approach to Memory Palaces if I made spelling a requirement.

      @@AnthonyMetivierMMM I see your point about relying on the crutch making a video of a particular Journey. Because at some level the mind needs to be forced to work for the neuronal connections to take place. ___________________ I know what you are saying about having a system in place and then trying to add spelling to it. Sometimes it just doesn't fit. _______ But you said in one of your videos, something to the effect of having a mirror Memory Palace in heaven or hell to compliment The Memory Palace on Earth. Perhaps using the first letter of a particular Sanskrit word......... to magically transport you to another location or something. That is an interesting point about spelling - it's definitely a convention at the end of the day.
      But, since these conventions live in our brain cells, they're also deeply personal. So it's little wonder if people get attached to things like this.

    Hello Anthony, it sounds like in your memory technique you work purely on the strength of the associations that you make. Therefore, you could have 1,000 lockers, and as long as you knew the associations between each picture (or peg), you can memorize at least a 1,000 units of information, which you attach to your picture or peg for each locker. The genius behind this is that it allows one to store lots and lots of information. Good job.

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I think it all comes down to strength of association - and for me it's the space itself that is the key association. That's why numbers are so useful. 02 is always directly to the right of 01, so there's no need to "see" anything. I can feel it spatially.

    I noticed that Ron White looks to the right when he is remembering and to his left when he is accessing his imagination. This is for NLP students. It kind of goes against the " person who looks to the left is accessing memory" general stereo type.
    Just an observation, not meant to start a debate with anyone. Just an observation I thought was interesting.
    Also, I understand that the image may be reversed due to recording and TH-cam. I have noticed that when watching TH-cam, the writing is seen as "backwards". I'm not making a determination, but I'm interested in knowing which way his eyes move when he accesses his memory.
    Thanks for reading this comment.

      Thanks for this.
      I don't think this particular point in NLP is particularly well-demonstrated, and one would have to cultivate a far larger data set than this video to be within statistical relevance for a valid study of one individual, let alone establishing a principle for groups.
      It's possible that the image was reverse as we were using Zoom and it sometimes does that, yes, But the point remains the same that NLP has a huge burden of evidence on this particular point. Indeed, everything that is true in NLP is true because it's true, not because of NLP.

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People use memory systems to do the equivalent of this, though I haven't seen a citation of this specific outcome. But if you know how cards are typically memorized, then the record now is I believe under 12 seconds for 52.
      But I'm not sure how exactly you would divide individual seconds given the procedures that mnemonists use. It's an interesting question.

      @@AnthonyMetivierMMM (I didn't intend for this to be so long lol.)
      Hmm, I'm not sure I can point to anything specific right off the bat. I was introduced to you through your interview with Curt Jaimungal. If I had come across you before seeing the interview I probably would have just ignored your channel completely and written you off as another clickbaiter.
      Perhaps that sounds harsh but there's a ton of BS online and there's no way I can go through all of it to see what works and what doesn't, it's usually best to assume it's all flash and no substance.
      I haven't watched very much of your content (although I plan to watch more) and there hasn't been any implementation as of yet with what I have seen and I think this is the main support for my continued open-mindedness.
      There's also something else keeping me lured in. See, I have your book, The Victorious Mind, along with 500+ other books from other authors (some bought, some pending), and I have this problem with wanting to read everything all at once so I didn't get very far with your book along with dozens of others that I'm about a few chapters in with each of them, but from what I did read I immediately understood the story you were sharing regarding mental illness.
      I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and suicidal ideation is a near constant thing for me. I don't want to die before I know this and this and this and this and this and this thing on and on and on it goes I'm interested in learning so many things yet at the same time I want to be unconscious and no longer experiencing anything at all. It's like some kind of tight rope I can never get off of to stable ground. I want to get to the other side but the risk of falling is there with me until then.
      Anyways, I hope that as I make my way further through your book that perhaps the same things that helped you will help me as well. I'm going to stop typing here. Thanks for taking the time to read.

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your candid thoughts.
      In our community, we call the desire to read it all "The Faust Syndrome."
      Wanting to have it all is like selling your soul to the devil. You wind up losing the thing that is most precious: Time and especially the present moment.
      The important thing is that you are reading. Many don't, so congrats on that.
      And there's no universal rule that one actually has to read books from beginning to end.
      However, the thing I hope you can pick out in this discussion with Ron is that you really can memorize thousands of pieces of information with a high degree of accuracy.
      And I know you can do it as well.
      So if there is one book or program that must be completed from beginning to end, it is a memory book, possibly more than one.
      Neither Ron nor myself learned it all from one source. I'm not sure a person alive ever has.
      But being thorough in taking steps with the practice is very important.
      About suicidal ideation, I know how tough it is. Not a day goes by when I don't have to work with it myself.
      But the threat is now gone and the peace I've achieved is real.
      And part of it came from ceasing my own cynicism about "click baiters."
      Solid memory training, especially with the goal of cleansing the mind, will help you embrace more. And often you'll find that there was a lot more genuine help in the things that previously seemed insidious than it seemed.
      In any case, a properly trained memory is WAY better than "too good to be true." It is the cleansing of the very thing in which the notion of memory itself rests.
      That's why I keep polishing that lens day after day and please just shout out if there's anything I can do or say to help you do the same for yourself along the way. :-)
