Sometimes some people say that characters like Dhalsim are too stereotyped. But I think it's good that in pop culture they create stereotyped characters. Because it is precisely the stereotypical characteristics of nations that make them so interesting and memorable. For example, if you depict a Russian without a hat with earflaps or some other characteristic features of Russian culture (such as balalaika, vodka, etc.), then you get another boring white European who will be indistinguishable from a German or a Canadian. Also, if you remove the turban, yoga, etc. from Dalsim, you will get an unremarkable character from Asia. It's great that there are, for example, Japanese samurai and Chinese kungfu, it gives us cultural differences and diversity. Dhalsim is one of my favorite video game characters and because of him I became interested in Indian culture and mythology.
Facts my ethnicity is Indian but like everyone knows no Indian can spit fire or stretch their arms like that lol. As a kid i loved Dhalsim just because he was Indian
@@Kali-8 in fact, street fighter characters mix stereotypes and original ideas and fantasy. For example, in the Indian arena of Street Fighter 5 there is a yogi who levitates in the left corner of the arena, this yogi is stereotypical but at the same time he is holding a smartphone in his hands, which makes him not quite stereotypical. By the way, the fact that Dhalsim is drawn out is connected with the stereotype that in India everyone knows yoga and is very plastic, but it's just exaggerated. And his name is also stereotyped from the name of Indian food Dal. And the wife of a Dhalsim is generally called Sari. I hate when people "wish" for things that are in their control. You "can" go get a console and moderate your time wisely. It doesn't make since to act like you can't.
When I first saw Dhalsim in SF2 in the arcades at the age of 9, I used to think he was black lol! When he performed his special moves I use to think he was saying " Sho Got Fire!" and " Sho Got Flame!" 😂😂😂
@@architectsengineers229 Yeah I do. I'm a big fighting game fan who kept up with Street Fighter from SF2 till today. What's your point? And yes I know Dhalsin is actually Indian and he's saying "Yoga Fire!" What I said was just a joke, and I'm black.
No offence, but it's not really evolution when you don't show the new moves that demonstrate how he evolved, eg the yoga teleport in Hyper Fighting, yoga blast and inferno in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, custom combos/V-ism in the Alpha series. Or show three SFIV games with the same set of moves in all of them without showing what made him different (focus attack and Ultra 1 in the first, introduction of Ultra 2 in Super SFIV, and the red focus attack and Ultra Combo Double in Ultra). And if you're going to throw in Mugen games and Street Fighter X Mega Man (which don't really tell us how he evolved) why not SSF2T HD Remix?
I'm sorry. I never liked Dhalsim or Blanka. Street Fighter was a video game about the worlds strongest fighters and yoga isnt a martial art. If Dhalsim new traditional Indian martial artists and if Blanka new any Brazilian martial artists that would be a different story.
