    A lot of people still don't understand DC fast charging. 250KW doesn't matter if it only peaks for a few minutes and you have to get the pack to less than 10%. You are correct - it's all about the charging curve. If you can sustain 130-150kw for 20 minutes from 10-80% or even slightly lower time, that's the key.

    • @JohnCap523
      @JohnCap523 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But it doesn’t peak for a few minutes on eGMP EVs, like it does on Teslas.

      @@JohnCap523 if you have the option, you'd of course go to a 800v station. But the point is that if tesla is your only choice, it's not that bad.

      @@BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry Basically, people don't want to have to set a destination for multiple reasons including using Waze or Google maps and just knowing where they are going. Just having the option is nice I guess since it's available for other cars

    Interesting to see this the other way around, thanks Bob. Certainly helps new owners understand why non-Tesla chargers will be the better option for road trips when speed/power is the main consideration. For longer stops, remote locations with V3, or just to avoid congestion, Superchargers might still be the preferable option. Either way, the extra choice is nice to have.

      @electricprincipal543 So unbeknownst Pat was a teacher at Lincoln high school school when I was a student from 99-01. If I can remember correctly he was in charge of setting up a student based tech support that I was part of.
      On to the next subject, I also own a Kia EV9 which supposedly was going to get supercharger access tomorrow, but that looks like it's getting delayed, which throws a wrench in my plans driving to my mother's home. Chicago to Manitowoc. I had such a difficult time charging the EV9 at the Van horn DC charger with the payment system. Looks like I will be taking the Ioniq5 instead . I just looked at the tesla app and it says the Manitowoc superchargers will work with the 23 with adapter. So I am going to try it out tonight down here as a test. Traveling with the Ioniq5 with 2 dogs a 5 year old space is limited. Thanks Corbin for turning me onto your channel!

    Yes there are some people who think...the car has a nacs port you can Only use a tesla charger now.... Nope, it's just a connector, you are free to use any charger you want to. Using a supercharger is a great backup option if nothing else is available. I have been to an Arco that had 3 chargers / 6 plugs 4 CCS, 1 NACS (tesla) and 1 chademo. Or like you did use an adapter to use any CCS charger.

    Currently, in rural SW Colorado CCS charging locations greatly outnumber the Version 3/4 Superchargers locations accessible to nonTesla EVs. Outside of the I-70 and I-25 Interstate highway corridors there are currently only three Version 3 Superchargers (Montrose, Telluride & Alamosa). In the same area there are over twenty nonTesla DC fast charging locations.
    Even around Grand Junction, the biggest town in western Colorado and right on I-70, there is only one Version 2 Supercharger. Apparently there are plans for additional Supercharger locations in places like Durango, Cortez, Pagosa Springs, Gunnison and Grand Junction, which should be Version 4 and open to nonTesla EVs. However, only Durango has advanced to the "permitting" phase.
    Not complaining just pointing out charging options do vary geographically. I welcome every step towards universal access to public EV charging.

    Charging speed in KW is almost irrelevant. What really matters is how many mph of charge are you getting? Tesla vehicles are so much more efficient than the Ioniq 5 that they make up some if not all of the difference in charging speed in KW. I have ultra efficient tires on my Model 3 Performance and I get 4.54 miles per kWh. Therefore, I can go a lot further without charging for a long time. I unplug before the Tesla curve starts to really drop. I have added less kWh than an Ioniq 6 would have but I still added about the same range. It is a trade off. Do you want to have high speed charging or ultra efficient driving? Both give you good range.
