If you fish a lot or hook into big fish, you've got to check this out!
Braided fishing line gets twisted with every rotation of the reel when a fish is taking out line and pulling drag.
And you'll need to untwist it and check the integrity of your line before you re-rig and get back to fishing.
So in this video, you'll learn how to get the twists out of your braided line.
Watch Capt. Mark Hollywood Johnson show you the easiest and fastest way to unspin your line so you can keep fishing like a pro!
    Check it out!
Have any questions about how to do this?

For those who don't have a boat - - 1) Cast out 30 - 40 yards and take up the slack on the line. 2) Put the line in the clip on the reel. 3) Loosen the drag so the reels spins freely. 4) Wind the handle backwards - 20 times. The reel should turn - that's how the twists go away. 5) Un-clip the line and tighten the drag. 6) Wind in the line. 7) Cast out as far as you can and do it again until there's no twist in the line.

Tip: if you put the rod tip in the water at the start it will speed up the line from coming off the reel.
Thanks for the video. You guys are doing a great job.

I'm having this problem with Spiderwire brand, using a 10lb braid on my 2500 Fierce. I was thinking about replacing the line but will definitely try this. Is very disappointing while trying to do fishing and having to deal with line getting all twisted. Never had a single problem with PowerPro. Great video Salt Strong.

If you don’t have a boat you can buy a PVA bag put a few stones in it tie it on to the end of the line and cast it in to a lake as far as you can. The pva will melt now reel in with the line under tension and it will take the twists out. May have to do it a few times. Or walk along the water’s edge letting out line in to the water as you go. Now real it all in. If you can get to a high building you can let the line out from the top and then wind it in under tension and lastly a fast moving river with a bridge let the line out so it’s carried away from you in the flow and bring in back in under tension.

I fished mono for decades and it never gave me any issues. I twitched over to braid because everyone is raving about it and it seems like the latest and greatest. I have never casted so many birds nests in my life. It does this on both rods. I bought a top end braid at Cabela's as well. I will be going back to mono I think. The braid seems like such garbage and it a massive PITA. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

One trick is to tie a quality ball bearing swivel or even a couple in tandem on your line, then tie a big weight on the other side of the swivel, then wedge the weight in a fence or something so it won’t move but the swivel can still turn and work properly, then just open your bail and walk out further than your longest cast, close the bail, tighten the drag, and reel in and walk towards your stationary weight, the swivel or swivels you tied on your line with help get rid of the twist in your line, that’s why quality ball bearing swivels have to be used so they spin properly, just remember to keep tension while reeling and walking, and that should eliminate the twist, I’ve done this with really heavily twisted mono and flouro

I have used braid since Fireline came on the market. I use it on everyone of my rods, from panfish to shark with mono leaders.
I have never had a problem with it in all those years. This year I have been having problems on 3 of my reels and a buddy also has the same problem on one.
The problem is when spooling new line, reeling in a lure/jig on our panfish/crappie setups it twists the line. The line isn't slipping on the reel nor is the drag to lose. I have tied my line to something and walked off all the line. I then went back to the rod and started untwisting it by hand via pinched finger and walking the length of line to the end multiple times that is no longer tied to car, tree, fence, etc. Here's the problem, when it's good and straight I go back and start spooling it back on while pinching it up near the 1st guide. Within a few turns of the handle it has twisted up again up to where my fingers are pinching it.
This twisting is so bad it causes wind knots on a pretty regular basis. The reels are only maybe 6 yrs old and I take care of them and also never lay them in the dirt, sand, etc. or dunk them.
I can't figure it out,I have taken the bail roller completely apart, cleaned it thoroughly and re-lubed it with Quantum hot sauce oil (not the grease) and made sure it's spinning freely. I have spooled on new line from a different spool and it twists. I have tried letting the water current take the line off and then respool..... but it's still twisting it.
I thought it may been the age of the line as I get about 7 yrs out of braid, but I respooled with new as did my buddy and there it is,twisted again.
Any idea WTH is going on,it's 3 different reels out of maybe 40-50 I own and use. The 3 that it's doing it on I have 6 of the same models 3 1000 and 3 2500's. It's doing it on 1 1000 and 1 2500 of the same model and a 2500 of another..

No boat, no problem. Get a mate, a battery drill and go down a deserted stretch of beach. Put line end in drill chuck (tape it on a bit of small diameter wooden dowel etc), one of you walk the line out (with the drill), then use the drill to unspin the line (forward or reverse, not sure which way), then reel it back up. Should only take a minute or so.

    • @bigtrout

No good solution that I know of. Best to buy bulk spools of line and change the line when the twist becomes problematic. Even dragging behind a boat is just temporary, it will twist again.

There is a special lead called the "Spin Doctor." It is designed to counter spin your line. I don't use it. I either use a normal bank sinker and cast out and try to press the spin out of the line, or I have a couple spots on the river I can use the current like they do the boat.
