If you listen to enough Dream Theater, You'll come to Love James' Voice. I felt the same when I started listening to them back in the late 90's

    • @Opadei
      @Opadei 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

For me it's opposite. At first I really liked his singing. The more I listened it, the more I got bored and my ears got tired for that tone. Same happened to me with Bruce Dickinson, sadly. I used to listen a lot of Maiden and DT. :(
But, when I heard The Dark Eternal Night, I really liked it. It was something I hadn't heard from James before and it gave me hope. For both of those two singers I like the most when they sing low notes.
As a DT fan, sorry to say, but I can't stand James' vibrato.

I can appreciate the skill in his voice and singing, I’ve just never cared for the tone. Some songs it works, others I don’t care for it. But the guy is definitely a great singer nonetheless.

@@markgoguen8698 thanks for not being an asshole about it, I love james labrie, but obviously I have no problem with someone disliking his voice. Unfortunately a lot of people think disliking someone's vocals means they can be an asshole and constantly talk shit about the guy.

    Bridges In The Sky
    Endless Sacrifice

So glad that you finally react to my favorite Band! As for the Alien question: there is no chance that we are alone in this big - big world. Who knows, maybe is they even discovered us a long time ago but they realized how fucked up are we, like "dude, these humans are killing each other just because their leaders can't have an agreement about something, and some are killing each other just for fun, and they eating all their animals and plants cause that's how they work", so they put a massive red flag of their own on us and decided to never encounter with us, because if we discover that we are not alone, there will be the chance to conquer them and behave fucked up with them.

DT fan here! FInally you listened to their true virtuosity that Pull Me Under and Wither doesn't quite have much (although those songs are so great too emotionally)!
You should do METROPOLIS Part 1(the quintessential DT virtuoso piece), THE DANCE OF ETERNITY, STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS, UNDER A GLASS MOON and their huge epics OCTAVARIUM and 6 DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE! Dream Theater is known for virtuosity and changing time signatures! They are Julliard and Berklee virtuoso students and just decided to start a band and pushed each instrument to its limits. Each one of them, Portnoy, Petrucci, Myung Rudess, Moore, Sherinan and now Mangini are the Masters and their names are always included in the Best of all Time in their respective instruments! Also, John Petrucci's solos are the most beautiful I've ever heard and definitely one of the best melodic guitarists to walk on earth. If you can, listen to his solo work, Wishful Thinking (the 7min version), you'll be blown away!

This is the opener on their new album A View From The Top Of The World which is also the title of the closing song on the album and runs at a cool 20 minutes 24 seconds !!!
They have came back with a massive bang on my opinion, production, songwriting quality etc etc has all been jacked up.
If that wasn’t enough then Mr John Petrucci introduced us to his new 8 string custom guitar & the 7th track Awaken The Master has this new bad boy all over it. Taking John to a point where Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders was the first guitarist I heard with the 8 string and his ability is right up with the greatest shredders, Eddie VannHalen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, John of course and many others but Tosin was the king of the 8 string…… I think now he’s been schooled by John Petrucci and the song was written specifically to show off the incredible range and speed, tapping, sweep work etc etc etc and all packed into 9 mins 47 secs !!! This album may only have 8 tracks, each one is a masterclass in its own right but Awaken The Master is a MUST as your next Dream Theater listen !!!!! The album still rocks in at over 71 minutes !!! Hold on this is going to be an awesome looooooooong wild ride !!!!!

If you're enjoying DT, you DEFINITELY need to check out Haken. Try Pareidolia, 1985, or Carousel for starters.

    Carry me to the shoreline
    Bury me in the sand
    Walk me across the water
    And maybe you'll understand
Once the stone you′re crawling under
    Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear is the crashing down of hollow years

In case you're not aware, and nobody else has mentioned in the comments yet, the guys of Dream Theater are all music theory majors from Berkeley. That should make alot of sense given their extensive time signature changes during their songs. If you can read sheet music, I highly recommend looking at how to play any Dream Theater song, especially on guitar. It'll blow your mind!

Similar mission and ending of Battlestar Galactica. Trying to go to earth and see the natives when they finally arrived.
They decided to destroy all technology but it still evolved and history repeats itself.

Jordan Rudess' magnificent solo by the middle of the song was just ALIEN, out of this world, he never ceases to amaze me, I mean the whole band of course, but... come on that had to be highlighted. Hefner, HEFNEEEEEEER!!!!!! pay attention bro, you want to have your head blown off twice as much, you should check out "This Dying Soul" also by DT, but the live at Budokan version of it, plus you get to see them play it, watch the magic happen before your eyes, hope you can do this man!! here's the link to that one: th-cam.com/video/2wKx_SBjHDY/w-d-xo.html

You should listen to As I Am by Dream Theater next.
Save their song Octavarium to listen to after you listened to a few of their songs. Octavarium is their best song IMO you will be blown away great vocals and great everything. It's a 24 minute song too. Listen to the studio version ofc. PLEASE MORE DREAM THEATER. they just released a single yesterday and are releasing a new album this February. Their original drummer has returned. HOP ON THAT TRAIN. All eyes are on dream theater don't miss the train.

You want the very best (IMO) of Dream Theater? Check out "Illumination Theory" from the Breaking The Fourth Wall DVD. They perform the song with a choir and a symphony orchestra. it's long piece, though, but it has thought provoking lyrics, and a beautiful piece of orchestral music in the middle. A masterpiece!
Btw, you'll love Jordan's "keytar" solo! You won't expect it until it happens!

@@NatJulianBelza Right!! I totally forgot this was Dio’s song originally. Agreed, DT did a phenomenal job, while James vocals is very different from RJD, I think it suits the song very well. Everyone else just nailed their parts
