    Thanks! Just did my dads 2014 passenger blend door (drivers side blowing cold, passenger warm and AC pressures ok). Only 4 hours to complete with your video. Just removed passenger glove box which involves taking off some trim, air bag, controls box and bottom cover then dropping fan motor. Used a 90 degree drill extension to drill one hole right where you stayed and opens it up with a step drill (watch the pipes behind!). Cut top of support bracket with grinder and bent out. Hand up inside fan housing and used a borescope on my iPhone to look into one of honecomb holes, with screwdriver in drilled hole to get back screw out. Borescope probably saved me hours of frustration! Not too bad a job once you contort yourself in passenger footwell and never had to take out console or CUE screen at all.

      Hey man that’s so awesome!! I hope it helped! So I left out the other parts of getting to the blower because I wanted to focus on the specific job at hand. I realized that there was an abundance of how to videos for the rest of the stuff, so I didn’t want to make this video too long and wanted to get straight to the point.

    This was very helpful. I’m doing the same repair right now.
    I found the same issue as you, there does not seem to be any non destructive way to remove the actuator. The GM manual instructs to remove the entire hvac system from the vehicle, which requires venting and recharging the ac.
    I did find that the vent pipe running behind the aluminum can be separated on the seam and then collapsed/folded in on itself. I also took the actuator arm off the door. I was able to get the actuator in and out this way. But I ended up accidentally breaking a weld prying against it anyway.
    The aluminum structure is for the lower air bag, so if you end up cutting or breaking a weld, I would recommend making proper repairs for safety
    Excellent tip on going though the air box “origami” style. That was brilliant.

    Before you do that, with the system off, try disconnecting the battery for about 10 seconds. My driver's side worked fine but the passenger side did not. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery solved my problem.

    I hear such a grinding sound occasionally and it makes sense since I feel air at the floor when I have the front defrost on but almost no air blowing on the windshield.

    I’m having the issue of passenger side not blowing cold. Would the actuator that is hard to get to be the one I need to replace? So we would need to remove the dash no matter what to get to that one?

    • @oscar_cooking
      @oscar_cooking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend taking the car to a shop that has a scan tool that can detect which actuator is failing. I have a scan tool, so that’s why it was easy for me to pinpoint which was bad. If I’m not mistaken, there’s 4 actuators in this car so it’s important you know which one is failing so you don’t do the extra work if it’s not necessary

    • @vickeymoore82
      @vickeymoore82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we took it to the dealership and they want $2500 to fix it. All they would tell us is that it’s the passengers side and they would have to tear apart the dash to fix it.

Mine stopped working after the coolant ran low from the problem upper radiator pressure hose cracked and leaking. Coincidence??? Its also amazing how different the fuse panels are on different years....trying to find the main HVAC module fuse. Grrrrr.

    For anyone wondering the right side actuator closer to passenger side is a temperature control door for driver side. Not for defroster, face, or feet.

    • @jeffz4021
      @jeffz4021 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the left one on the passenger side is the defroster & the right side one is the temperature ??

    • @fearcaboose

      The driver temp is on the drivers side, as is the mode control (defrost, feet, face, etc).
      The actuator replaced in this video is the passenger temperature. The other actuator in this video, farthest right and towards the door, is for recirculate.

    I have a 14' ATS and it is blowing warm air on the drivers side and cold on the passenger side on the AUTO setting. When I adjust the setting to vent and floor, it blows the hot air to the drivers side floor and sort of cool air from the driver side vents, while the passenger side remains cold. The system was vacuumed and recharged and a scan tool reading is reporting no codes. In your opinion which actuator may need replacing? Thank you for the assistance!

    • @oscar_cooking
      @oscar_cooking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you use a scan tool that was able to check for codes in the BCM?

    • @jasoncollins2538
      @jasoncollins2538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oscar_cooking I used a Innova CarScan Pro which should work as a BCM scanner and I am not getting any codes. The dealer reset something and the AC worked as it should for a short period of time. Independent shops checked it out and referred me back over to the dealer. Still don't understand how I would not see any codes if the issue is a blend door actuator or how the dealer could get it magically working for a short period of time if the part was bad.

    • @oscar_cooking
      @oscar_cooking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasoncollins2538 So one simple way to try and pin point which blend door it might be is simply putting both temps down to “Lo” and whichever side feels like you have it set on “Hi” is more than likely the side you want to focus on.
      My guess is the dealership tried to recalibrate the actuators, which May have worked temporarily because the potentially defective actuator might work at times

    • @oscar_cooking
      @oscar_cooking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 4 sets of actuators on these models
      2 are dedicated for the heater blend doors. The one I replaced on this video was the passenger heater blend door actuator. The other 2 are for the blower vents as in the ones that are in charge of air flowing to defroster, vents or floor. Hope that answered your question
