@@750UT I’m about to replace the upper carburetor boots and rebuild the carburetors once again. I finally found a set of used ones that are in really good condition. Stay tuned for more videos coming soon
Pulled my carb before you posted this video still haven’t put them together because I couldn’t find the upper car boots, as well as the vacuum diaphragm for the inner workings of the carb
@@fitchpaintingrepairllc9871 I found the diaphragms as well but not the rings, saw the same video as you for changing them, I ended up shooting a shot in the dark and calling every junkyard in my state, luckily found a set of carbs with a good diaphragm I’m putting it together as I write this comment. Loved your vid on this bike
Ended up getting it together and running, was idling so I took it down the street for a test drive it died a block away when I was slowing down and now won’t start since, I’m wondering if I flooded it? Maybe my pilot jet was backed out too far? I’m not sure
What i do with the top air boots is a boil them in water till soft and roll them on one side of them and put them into the frame and it gives enough room to get the carburetor back it. And yea those uppper boots are hard to find luckly i found a pair a few years ago
This might work for a good set. Mine are already damaged and can’t be done that way. The good news is I have located a very good set of used ones. Will post a new video when I do the install
Hey man, I need some guidance I have the same bike, she will start and run on choke, but as I roll back the choke up, it bogs down and shuts off, no visible vacuum leaks, if I remove the choke cables from the carb, can I spray some carb cleaner in there? My carb boots are mint, and look pliable, not cracks at all, fresh gas , new fuel hose n filer around the aux tank, and tips before I attempt a carb pull Thanks, hope your search for a new location is going well
Check the fuel filter isn’t clogged. Install air filter if testing without it. Check for pinched fuel lines. Check with vacuum gauges the carbs are synchronized. If these steps don’t help then the carburetors need to be pulled and cleaned out. If they are clean check float level height is correct. There is a fuel pump in the lower tank under the seat. Check for proper fuel pressure. If the air fuel screws have been tampered with check they are set correctly
@@fitchpaintingrepairllc9871 Thanks man, yeah I replaced the fuel filter and the hoses that ran from the aux tank to the fuel pump. They were cracked, it just stalls when I push the lever off choke, nothings been tampered with, on the carb it’s all set the way it was from the factory, so I’m guessing the there’s a clog
@@gfernandez24 if it runs while the choke is on try riding it with some fuel system cleaner in a fresh tank of gas. It might help dislodge a clog or dissolve tarnish build up. Sounds like the pilot jet is clogged. Does it run fine if it’s above 3500rpm? Or does it lack power on acceleration? Ive had leaks around the choke cables before and the bike would only rev up when cold with choke fully engaged. With the bike running at a high idle try spraying carburetor cleaner around all hoses and cables. If the idle stumbles or jumps you’ve got a leak. Also this symptom can be caused by a weak coil or one that is cracked. Pull the coils and look at the back as this is where they normally fail
Check the exhaust has no leaks. Also check the carburetor and intake are sealed. Pop on decel is usually caused by cold fresh air mixing with the hot exhaust gases. This causes the unburnt fuel to spontaneously fire making a pop sound. If running straight pipes you might need to add a small baffle or change the jet size in the carburetor
It’s what works best for me. I just meet a subscriber that is restoring his ‘86 and he pulled the whole engine out with the carburetors still attached. Then after a top end job put the motor in with the carburetors already installed. There is very little clearance and easy to damage the rubber boots. The top boots cannot be replaced. I’ve been looking for more than 10 years. So far only used ones available. If you find a supplier or someone that can make some please share the info. Good luck with the bike
@@fitchpaintingrepairllc9871Good Morning, have you or anyone you know ever tried using sea foam? If so any harm in trying that before pulling the carbs? I saw all your vids, I know you said you don’t show the how too on video, and I haven’t found anyone on YT showing how to do that. Enjoy the day!
@@gfernandez24 if the bike can be run it might help clear a minor clogged jet. Check the condition of the lower fuel tank and filter located mid frame on the left side. If you have good fresh fuel that is 93 octane, a fuel system cleaner additive is good to run every other tank or so. You could have lots of water condensation buildup in the lower tank. I use cheap fuel treatment from Walmart every other tank. I use about a 1/3 of the bottle per fill up. 2-3 times a year I add a cap full of marvel mystery oil to the fuel. Also just before oil change I top of the engine with about a 1/4 bottle of mystery oil. This helps lubricate while cleaning deposits. Good luck with your bike. Reach out if you need more advice
@@fitchpaintingrepairllc9871 thanks for the tips, I remove the upper tank and looked down the secondary tank, zero gas in them, the previous owner now told me he drained it the last time the bike ran because it’s what caused the issues, but never put gas in it, it looks clean, but has that varnish smell, I’ll follow your step’s first before I go through pulling the carbs off, it’s worth a shot. Thanks again for your advice. 👍
Thanks for the video. Saves me from buying one of these bikes. ... *Whew*
@@a.b1266 they are fun to ride and reliable but parts can be hard to find.

Do you know, the manual says to back the pilot jet out 2 turns from gently seated if that’s 2 360 degree turns or 2 180 degree turns?

They are one of the tightest to get the carburetors out, shitty design. Good video though!
I finally found a set of new/used upper manifolds. Also need to change the main jet and jet needle jet height. Stay tuned for a new video coming soon
