I think pretty much everybody in the clip at 2:12 was in high IQ mode. First baseman quickly abandoned the play at first and threw it home. Pitcher hit the deck immediately. Runner did those acrobatics to get to the play. Catcher didn't waste any time arguing the call and immediately threw to second to keep the play alive.
In baseball, when you are on defense, every player must think to himself before the play even starts "If the ball comes to me, what am I going to do with it?"
@@esta7763And on the flip side of that, the batter has to be thinking to himself “what pitch is coming, where is it gonna be, and what should I do with it?” Baseball is a thinking man’s game.
I just watched Baez get kicked out by AJ Hinch for pimping an off the wall double and forgetting there was only one out in the inning… seeing the decline is sad…
For some wondering on Lester and the pick to 1st... for some reason Lester could not consistently throw a pick to 1st... so a lot of times they just let guys steal on him lol... he was fine pitching, but to make a pick off throw, guy just had a serious case of the yips with it. That's why the Cards player had such a ridiculous lead off - and sometimes teams told Lester to NOT throw to first... because he'd throw too high or miss the 1st basemen lol.
Too many plays are just great athletic, not high IQ. Some are just low IQ too. Firstbase coach needs to watch the throw back to the pitcher, and tell the runner to stay on the base.
The vast majority of these are just basic baseball plays. Guys know where the ball is supposed to go under any circumstance. They're great plays and a lot of instinctive plays, but I don't see how they are high IQ.
I think 3:25 is more of a 0 IQ play by Tommy Pham. 18 feet off the bag staring right at the pitcher who's looking directly at him. Takes another step. What did he think was gonna happen
John Lester only threw about 2 pickoff throws a season and was often inaccurate with them. It was a well-known mental block of his. He just could not throw to first from the mound.
Man cubs were lucky to have baez for their title run. Hes great. I was sad to see that whole core go
He was great. Now he's dog shit

At any level I'm always impressed by the ability of ball players to think so quickly

Hearing Al Michael's make the call was golden.
Throwing a guy out left handed from the far side of the mound is insane
Always showing us clips that I haven’t seen before. Keep digging for these awesome clips!
The mid 10s to about 2020 were some of the smartest players for the Cubs
WOOOO!!! Go sports!!
That watermark directly in the center of the screen is oddly distracting
Phillies Tigers 🐅 Triple play

5 of the clips in these videos were Baez, I think no other player has even 2
Defensive/ base running Baez: 💪😤
Offensive Baez: 🥴🫠
@@cripwalklover8380 Rizzo is here a lot.
Wits and skill
3:15 John Lester actually picking someone off???
Hopefully Javy can make a comeback because it’s sad seeing what he’s like now
El mago El sucks.

Hi
6:45 one if my favorite baseball highlights of all-time
2:39 oka it was good cuz he made an accurate throw but if he threw it all fd up then it would’ve been a negative in moment
I mean compared to the average person's ability that's one of the hardest plays any player could possibly make.
So much talent holy moly 😊
Same clips, different titles.
2:32 that dude looked safe
He wasn’t.

There were some hi IQ plays, there were also some low IQ plays, and many of these were athletic plays.
is 5:05 a high IQ play or just seeing your teammate gets signaled so you go?
1:46 you get base on balls all the time, but how many times do you see 'ball on base'?
Rundown at 4:20 was out, no way he was in the base line
The rule is that he can’t be more than 3 feet out of the baseline to avoid the tag. There’s no way that was more than 3 feet.
Damon 2009 WS?
4:02 doesn't the infield fly rule apply?

I was taught that rundowns should take no more than one throw.
If you have a shit runner, yeah
☕🤟🤘✌
how is 4:19 not illegal?
The general rule is the runner has 3 feet either way as part of his baseline to run in. The ump believed he was within that and ruled him safe
You need to look up the rule for the runner's base path.
The SC in the middle of the screen is too much, thumbs down wont be back
2:28 How the fuck do you do that?
9:10 so filthy lol
so off the walk, once he passed/touched third base hes able to be tagged immedietly is what I'm seeing lol?
First
Javier Biaz is the ONLY exciting thing about baseball
Was*.... and even back then, it's all subjective
You are the LEAST exciting thing in these comments.
