  • A bit of real world testing of the Engel MT45FP, how much power it uses and in theory how long could it run off a 100aH battery.

    Thanks mate, Im a new engel owner and love it. Keeps my drinks cold for work. I end up getting the 39l combi and been running 24/7 for last 2 months.

    You forget to mention :) I have a 27 yr old 30 lt Engel and it uses similar AH to yours on a 25 C day. However, go to a 40 C day and in 8 hours it, coincidentally, also uses 25 AH, (100% cycle rate) with 16 hours of hot day and warmish night to go, lol. I've also measured the interior of my 4x4 at 60 C on really hot days. The figures I quote are from actual tests I've done. So @ 50% Depth of Cycle on a 100 AH battery, it will need daily charging in the summer. Which is why I have both DC-DC and solar options on my Auxiliary battery as do you. :) I suppose that's another video, lol....... BTW I like you battery box.

    I haven't watched this yet but thought I'd share my experience. i get a tadd under 24hrs in my car running on an 80ah AGM battery before the built in medium cut off switch kicks in, which I believe is around 10.5 amps compressor running. 60th anniversary 40l. Brand new battery. I'd let it go lower but Engel's lowest cutoff I believe is far too low for AGM

    Hey mate, good video, but where does the 40% duty cycle come from? Have you measured that it is 40%, or is it an assumption? What ambient temp were you running?

    • @jamesjohnson8316
      @jamesjohnson8316 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good point. You’d have to sit there for an hour and time how long the compressor runs and then calculate it. Maybe he did though.
      Good video thanks mate.
      I have the same fridge and left it for 3 days with a 100ah battery. I was was worried I drained my battery to low but a guy at jaycar told me the Engel will cut off automatically if it detects the battery drops below a certain voltage, not sure if that’s right.

    The only problem is what was the Ambient temp and what temp was the fridge set to, ??

    Real world is a very different story. Engels duty cycle isn’t accurate to specs. I’ve got a combi and it runs a lot more than the advertised duty cycle.
    Set at -12 degrees it’ll easily chew 40-50 amps per 24hours
    Set at 0 or 2-3degrees and it’ll still chew 30-35

    I have a 100ah battery and have my 32l engel running for about 9 hours a day. Easily lasts the working week and more.

    Iv had one for years there fantastic but recently shit itself replaced the condenser with one in hard rubbish worked fine I was surprised.. but I go through lead acid batteries pretty quick for some reason.. or maybe lead acid batteries are just shit?
    How much does the average 12v fridge draw? What about Waeco's?

    • @Unfastened
      @Unfastened  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the average fridge would draw 0.5 to 1 amp more. The Engels are very efficient. It's that swing motor..

    Hi mate i have a similar setup with my 40l engel and 110amp deep cycle aux battery plus a 110w fixed solar panel. However my amp meter is just on the cheap side and I cannot actually tell other parameters from it. What brand is the monitor you have? Cheers

    • @Unfastened
      @Unfastened  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UT210 series

    • @robertobassetto967
      @robertobassetto967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Unfastened so rewatching the video, it seems UT210 series is actually a solar regulator. At the moment i am running a c-tek D250Sa dc-dc for my solar etc. I guess that module you have Won t work in my case... any thoughts?

  • @CamperKev
    @CamperKev 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That's what makes the Engel so special. The low current draw thanks to their brilliant and unique swing motor. For more efficiency, remove the bag and add a voltage step up transformer. Why don't you differentiate between Amps and Amp/Hrs? Batteries are rated in AH not Amps.
