In terms of the model inconsistencies on Xion... Xion shifting from her unhooded model to her hooded model "randomly" (not really) is intentional... Xion will only show her face to anyone she connects with which was at first to be ONLY Roxas. Any other characters will only see her as a "puppet" as shown in her hooded form. This includes Axel at first. This is why Axel reacted with a surprised face when Xion thanked him for helping her for the first time. Signifying that Axel now sees her face. So everytime her models shifts to her hooded form, it means she's engaging with anyone who isn't Roxas and (later in the game) Axel.
You know, everybody likes to clown on Sora for being confused all the time like he's stupid, and he definitely is a little bit of a himbo without all that much muscle, but this story barely makes sense to itself, has inconsistent rules which bend and break to make new subrules whenever the story demands it be so, and even without new rules made and proven to be real and followed properly, things still just can decide to defy or not follow them and nobody in universe will ever question them for maybe more than 2 sentences worth of notice. So, to Sora's defense, he's lucky he hasn't somehow just been written out of the stories and plot entirely and left for dead on the roadside by now. I think he deserves and has earned his confusion.
And let's not forget, he's not the only one that holds the idiot ball, BBS has the trio alternating, or holding the idiot ball at once, with even Eraqus having it at some point, which essentially sets the scene for the entire series. This idiot ball is present in order to make the story progress in a certain way without it getting resolved before the problem starts by being rational, or connecting the dots, ergo Riku in KH1, sure Maleficent was playing to his emotions like Xehanort did to Terra, but she's blatantly, and clearly evil, at least the old man was being sneaky about it. Though if any character gets clowned on harder, it's Terra, and on his defense, he's only been tricked by Hook, and Xehanort (and the latter was playing to his emotions, and insecurities like a violin, throwing in a sob story about Ven for good measures) Maleficent forces Terra to do her bidding at his refusal (which.. was actually Xehanort behind the scenes??) and with the Evil Queen, he was willing to give some benefit of the doubt, but upon seeing Snow White for who she was, knew that the Queen wasn't to be trusted, and went against her. (And then we have Ven indirectly taking part in poisoning Snow White by giving the old witch the apple she dropped, so out of the two, which one did the most damage?) Same as Hook where he used Hook's trust in him to his advantage, and freed Tinkerbell. He got pulled into the Deep Space world/space ship when he was minding his own business, and suddenly was arrested, and in a cell, so of course he fell under the assumption that Jumba was also imprisoned for baseless reasons, and even more, could relate to him/Stitch due to the stigma against the darkness he seems prone to let out, but it only lasted until Jumba turned on Terra. That got winded, but point is, some of these characters are unfairly clowned on, while the points where idiot balls are actually present tend to be few, but notably closer together, making it seem more than it actually is, Riku held his up until near the end of KH1, onwards he doesn't seem to hold it again, at least to memory. While Sora holds it at specific points to keep the Disney worlds' stories canon, or to not let him wise up against the villains until the finale of a game. It's for these reasons that the non-canon/new Disney stories turned out to be the more favored ones across the fanbase, ergo Big Hero 6, Toy Story, and Monster's Inc due to being post the related film, since the characters were at their best by not being forced to follow a set storyline other than acknowledging past canon ones, or if pre-dating a movie, allow it to remain consistent enough to not mess up the future one, (Halloween Town KH1) even if Sora doesn't return to that world again, KH2 kinda had this with some of their worlds as they had "part 2" to them, like the Mulan world, Halloween Town, and Pride Lands, where there was a separate story that wasn't just the movie in video game form with anime characters, plus Donald and Goofy inserted.
slight correction, it's not that people can't destroy the heartless, it's the fact they can't set the trapped hearts free. anyone with a sword can take down a heartless, but if that heart is not set free specifically by a keyblade, that heart is still lost to the darkness and reformed into another heartless.
But I wonder if there's also some FF XV magic system here, in that those close to the royalty get some of the king/prince's powers. That would explain why Donald and Goofy can slay Heartless with Sora and would make the Radiant Garden war not worthless.
@@OtioseFanatic Yeah... But KH1 is also the most retconned game of the saga. If he said "destroy", then as @ToxicMonster5 said, anybody can "destroy" a heartless, but only a keyblade can "set the hearts free".
Victor Valls just saying, pointing out how much the series has been retconned or more specifically retconns the shit out of the first game doesn’t exactly help with the case for the overall quality of the series. I said it once and I’ll say it again. This man is now the lead director of the FFVII remake and for the life of me it feels like I’m the only one worried about that.
It's actually something that ironically, ages well like fine wine, people were even debating if in the DDD Tron World, if Sam should've pointed out why his dad had an anime boy program around. To it's credit, he was in a data world, so it could be believable for him to look the way he does as either a glitch, or just the way he was coded to look like in there, anywhere else on the other hand, nope. XD
I'm pretty sure that Soras' JP voice actor said "I kind of want to play a villain character" one day and Nomura was all "Yeah I can make that work" and that's why Vanitas exists.
I’ve loved kingdom hearts since I was little but my god there is so much a dislike about it. Like I literally want to throw hands with the writing of KH3
5:00 No no, the Xion's hood inconsistency was made on purpose. Every person sees Xion differently. Roxas sees her as we all know her, Axel sees her with the hood on (at the shoot you've shown we are under his point of view), and Xigbar sees Ventus.
My issue is that Sora, Donald, and Goofy never remember Castle Oblivion even though their memories were supposed to be fixed, heck when they go to wake up Ven they don't recognize the place before Aqua restores it to it's normal state.
When Sora was put to sleep, Naminé said that in order to fix Sora's memories, she would have to destroy the ones from Castle Oblivion, because it was from the moment he entered that she started messing with them. Yeah, I know it was a cop out, since she could just recreate Sora's original memories instead of restore them.
LOL, I like how the few times Peach actually does stuff, mainly in the RPGs, it can arguably be justified by things like she's better at healing but not actual fighting so she's good when she's in a group... and she's also better at stealth and sending intel to Mario and stuff with a helper, but she's realistically outclassed by some villain like Bowser and their minions. :p Still wish she could do more, if she's able to do more there... but you know, it's hard to say if tradition for some classic running gag stuff like Bowser and Ganondorf is a good thing, or a bad thing and their should do something more original. :p At least we got plenty of original villains too and they kind of zigzag this thing. :? That being said, how much is Daisy ever, if ever, in the mainstream games, and do we get to see much of her kingdom (Sarasaland?) and villains like Tatanga, or even Wart from 2? :p I would love to see more of that, it would have been great... I still love Nintendo games a lot, but their could be even cooler by revisiting old shit that they dropped, or making some characters actually useful, or more useful. :p
Well I can at least explain the missing cape thing. Apparently the capes were too much for the psp to handle so they had to remove them cause it caused lag.
They added them back for a brief moment in re mind DLC which was dopeee but if they all had armors for themselves or like ven roxas and sora all stood together with like these badass armors with the capes , that would be fuckin sick
I fell in love with Kingdom Hearts because it's Final Fantasy x Disney crossover fanfiction with an OC and edgy plot, and many AUs of the same character and I was 11. So I never looked back or questioned anything that happened, even if I didn't understand
Point of fact: Roxas is likely as dumb as Sora given he has only ever experienced memories of a digital school and may have never learned a thing, other than Axel's lesson on the light spectrum, it's just that he's so jaded he questions everything.
Alright, but imagine everyone being awkward after reading someone's gummiphone entries (facebook profiles). All of Aqua's stuff is from 10 years ago. Alternatively, have Lea mediate the groups since he's probably met more of these people than Sora. Imagine Roxas figuring out Ventus used to be Lea's friend and accuse Lea of using him as a replacement. There could have been so many good set ups for drama and comedy. But nah.
Agree with two minor points that have so much potential 1.The fact some disney characters know about outside worlds was so exiting in KH1 butwas mostly shelved and 2. Giving Xion and Naminé puppet and artist nobody servants respectivly would be so cool Hezu is on fire , also the plethora of avatar expressions
You got to keep in mind the CGI scenes were always intended to just be teasers before the ideas were finalized. The black coats were created to hide their designs, same for the BBS armors (even the capes were removed because they caused lag). Design inconsistency of the Disney world are because Disney strict guidelines to how the worlds have to look like their movie
I honestly think Nomura might be the one who wants to keep stuff as silly little fun, but since he himself thinks that he is not a writer he, goes along with other writers who have some sort of fixation to explain how logistics in fairy-tales work. It was not his idea to hamfist Spehiroth into FFVII remake either, it came from higher ups and Nomura, like normal people, needs food to be alive. Though man looks like teenager in his fifties so that is not so obvious.
@@Yurikon3 he seems more like someone who starts off with a simple concept without much deeper though behind it, only to start crossing into convoluted territory once he tries to explain what's going on. Not helping is the other writers with their own ideas.
The thing about the girls are: -Xion is more of a "I can do it on my own." -Kairi is just the boring love interest that always have to be saved -Namine is just lonely and only has to be saved sometimes -Aqua needed saving bc she was trapped for years but she's also the "I can do it myself" God that hurt when you called Roxas dumb-
@Jolene Ju Yin Cheah Actually it's more like- Kh1: Sora Help... Now that you've helped me let me help too... Fair point you have magic and weapons and I have a hug, just stay safe okay. Kh2: I will find Sora via magic bottles... Holy crap stranger danger... Fuck yeah gay away * Thump! * Shit... Give me a fucking weapon! Kh3: Gonna train to at least kh1 Sora levels of capabilities... Fuck yeah got magic bomber powers... Shit. DLC: MAGIC BOMBER! Which is to say kh1 mostly passive but wants to do more, kh2 wants to do more but lacks the ability to do so until the end, and kh3 she is given every opportunity to do better but reverts to kh1, and in the dlc she's a magic bomber.
@@hezureviews Also, I don’t know if you’ve only seen the Days movie. Because in the actual game, Xion has more in terms of personality. For example, she’s so driven to succeed at her job that she spends almost an entire day off training with her Keyblade because she says and I quote, I wanna get really good at it.
i'm pretty sure the "nobody is aloud to know about other worlds" thing is disney's fault ironically. they're really sticklers for what kh can actually do with the disney stuff.
You're right. Disney didn't want their properties to cross over, so they had Square put in the world order rule. And then Disney made crossover episodes of their cartoons because fuck it.
They set the rule before realizing the fan gold mine they've closed off. They can't exactly just remove it after it was cemented for various games, who knows, if we do go into an alternate universe route for KH4 and onward, this rule might not be as much of a problem as it was prior, or at least not be as strict with it.
@@observersbirdhouse I mean in theory, in practice Donald killed himself with Zetta flare, Sora can do it a max of two times before erasing himself from existence, and Goofy could know the question to which the answer is 42 but that would never matter since nobody ever listens to him.
@@85Lokiloki they're anything but that, lol, in a way they do a better job at explaining the plot than the story itself (and if you want an amped-up version of that, listen to project destati's stuff, majestic). But it's done so seamlessly that it manages to tell the story in a more straightforward way.
Can we just talk about when you play as kairi you find out all her ability’s and you realize she strong as fuck. She controls light, can teleport, super speed. She had no reason to be kidnapped, she’s damn near untouchable. How she get kidnapped?
I have a feeling she intentionally got captured. I mean she must have know how the outcome would have been if events played differently in the war. The girl LITERALLY brought Sora back from the dead so maybe she has a hidden power to see possible outcomes in the future. Maybe, being captured and letting the events play out was the only way to win. She is a princess of heart and maybe they all have hidden powers not yet explained. Her nobody can manipulate memories of multiple people even though Kairi herself doesn't have that ability. Not only that Kairi has memory loss of Hollow Bastion, her home, but due to what? Does she have some hidden power that Xehanort didn't want to her to fully realize and ruining his plans. Only the new game can give us answers.
28:42 Remember when Roxas, while he was still on the Organization XIII, was going through all that angst because he was a part of somebody else? Imagine what would happen if he found out that there was a second (or even third, with UnionX) layer of him being another person.
I just wanted to point out when you mention KH3’s renders and how they’re all different, it’s because Square changed KH3’s engine from their in-house luminous engine to unreal engine 4. When we got the first KH3 trailer in 2013, that was made with the luminous engine and we wouldn’t get another look at the game until 2015 when they made the switch to UE4. The team had to learn UE4 while developing KH3 and that’s why it looks so drastic from 2015 to present with the release of remind. Hope that cleared things up!
There’s also a possibility that Disney would try to shoehorn in and replace the current Disney world that are being used with their live action counterparts and Nomura said no So they’d be able to sabotage kingdom hearts in revenge
I know I'm early in the video, but the reason Xion's hood is on in one scene and off in the other, depends on who's looking at her. Roxas sees her as the black haired Kairi and Axel sees her as just a hooded girl (in the novel he sees her as Namine before he sees her regular face), even Xigbar sees her different he sees Ven. When I first played 358 Days on the DS I was confused about that as well.
The hood for Xion was on purpose. Roxas considered Xion to be a somebody, while Axel didnt really consider Xion to be someone. It was a matter of who's perspective it is.
About Xion having her hood on in some scenes when she doesn't in other adjacent scenes, it's implied in a few occasions that Xion takes on different appearances depending on who sees her. For example, when you first meet her, she almost exclusively wears her hood, but as Roxas (and later Axel) spend time with her, some resemblance of an identity forms to create Xion as we know her; however, with characters like Xemnas or Vexen, who are aware of her true identity and purpose, they will simply see her as hooded puppet. In a very peculiar series of circumstances, Xigbar apparently sees Xion as Ventus, yet Axel and Saïx do not see her as Ventus. It is possible that this one peculiarity is due to Xigbar actually being Luxu from the Era of the Keyblade War as it is common knowledge that Ventus exists during that era (why, however, I have no idea; time shenanigans, I assume).
How would any of you feel if they had a Simpsons world in a sequel. Hell imagine a sequel where Sora, Riku, and Kairi find themselves sent across various worlds of properties that Disney owns but didn’t create like Marvel and Fox properties and other Square Enix owned properties like Dragon Quest and Gex and even the Disney TV Shows and other obscure Disney stuff like Paperinik. Maybe Sora is accompanied by Deadpool and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Riku is accompanied by Gex the Gecko, and Kairi is accompanied by the Slime from Dragon Quest and Xadhoom from Paperinik. Also how horrifying would a keyblade that traps Heartless in cutaway gags be?
In terms of your first sentence forget the simpsons world. How about a/the futurama world. The reasons are that 1. It allows Fox to keep teasing that futurama could return as an animated series, as they love to do 2. KH has used a lot of Disney worlds in their games that we've never returned to. 3. While it is a stretch over Simpson's, it will be fun and have a few more possibilities for enemy's and story. 4. Bonus-I just want to see it happen.
YES! I've always found it weird how subdued KH is for being a "crossover", there's so much in Disney and Square Enix's libraries and yet they purposely limit themselves to what is most popular, heck in SE's case they limit themselves to three-ish games with the occasional bone being thrown in the form of blink and you miss it references. Where's the love for most of the FF6 cast? Or the FF12 cast? Or Bravely Default? Or Parasite Eve? Or Mischief Makers? The Disney side is hardly any better given everything they own. I've yet to see anything for the Haunted Mansion, or Gargoyles, or even less talked about movies like Robin Hood or The Rescuers. Nomura's given lazy excuses for this, saying he wanted to stick to movies only for "timelessness", not doing other SE games because "he's not comfortable working with characters he didn't creates" despite, A. He was only ever a character designer and didn't write for any of the FF characters that are in these games from their home series, and B. being a crossover and writing other people's characters is the damn point.
Not Simpson's, if you wonder why there's a Fairly oddparent's movie where Timmy Turner channel flips through multiple TV show worlds and briefly visits a Simpson's tip off world, in which Timmy appears in a Simpson's style, which I don't want to see, and addresses a serious issue with trying to do anything in that world, all the adults are idiots and all the kids are jerks, to try to have them act differently would make them unbelievable as those characters, and to have them act in character would be impossible to work around. As for Disney owned properties, yes, but only if they work and are not Marvel, I just don't like the feel of Marvel here it's hard to explain.
Small correction. So in a nutshell (or an eggshell, if you like), two birds that weren't really chickens created a chicken egg, and hence, we have an answer: The egg came first, and then it hatched a chicken.
I love that others are pointing this out! Also it just occurred to me that even given the original context of the question she's using it wrong, as it was meant to denote the uncertainty of a situation.
Figure out the Dark Souls, Sonic, and TWEWY Lore it's even Harder, because they have more Complex Stories! And Dark Souls have most of the Story in Lore Format, unlike Kingdom Hearts!
You’re soo right! In 29:45, Aqua should’ve stayed evil, Sora could’ve easily found Ventus in Castle Oblivion due to him possessing his heart inside him, their connection could’ve been used as a plot point for Sora to find Ventus.
but that wouldn't have worked though cause only Aqua actually revert Castle Oblivion back to the Land of Departure. No one else is able to do that besides Aqua, so they really wouldn't be able to get Ventus back with out her. Btw, Ven is ONLY in Land of Departure, not Castle Oblivion
I honestly stop playing this for alittle while jsut to head back to Kingdom Hearts 3, but thanks to you fixing this up alittle In your version made me feel better.
24:42 Well, technically she was walking on the darkness realm, where time doesn't flow at the normal speed. On 2.8, she says that for her it may have passed a couple of hours or a couple of decades. And Ventus was in a coma, so for him it felt like a nap.
I actually really like the juxtaposition when the anime characters interact with the live action Disney characters, something about that really grips me.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU For years I've felt like I've been the only person to notice these things about this series. I love most of the ingredients in KH, no reference intended, it was a large reason why I got into Final Fantasy as a child and re-evaluated my younger self's stance on the Disney canon, and yet everything about it is a mess that seems to be getting messier. It certainly doesn't help the KH versions of the characters from both FF and Disney are shells of who they actually are.
Namine was a biproduct of Kairis heart being inside Sora for the whole of KH1. That's why her power is very specifically over Soras memory. She's Kairis nobody with a special connection to Sora.
You had ALLOT of fun working with the game's own weird and wonky universe rules to materialize an absentee plot character that shouldn't exist but would fit perfectly along the series guidelines. Your depths of knowledge and creativity both intrigue me and utterly terrify me. Friking FANTASTIC job.
Kingdom Hearts for me is the perfect mix of bad writing with ridiculous events but great characters and epic moments. I don't want Kingdom Hearts to ever not be stupidly written. It is too much fun as the mess it is now.
@@madestmadhatter I definitely think she missed the mark on a few things. Like when she said that Xion had no personality. Though to be fair, maybe she only watched the Days movie and that’s where she got that idea from. In the actual game Xion has plenty of things going on in terms of character and personality. She’s really driven to succeed at her job for example, and even spends a day off training with her Keyblade because she said and I quote, I want to get really good at it. This also means that she gets pretty down and insecure when she does fuck up. Like when she failed to beat Riku.
I know. I kinda got a little mad to but I shook it off and I’m still fine with it. It’s pretty reasonable. Kingdom Hearts just has some things to work on

The main issue with Kingdom Hearts is that Aqua doesn't have more screen time. When Aqua isn't on screen, all the other characters should be asking "where's Aqua?"
To my understanding, Disney has a rule that Disney characters can only interact with characters they already have interacted with in Disney propertys before. So who Disney characters can interact with is limited, to my understanding that's the reason for the meddling thing (I'm told Donald and Goofy are the only exceptions)
28:39 Naminé doesn't have the power to meddle with people's memories, she has the power to meddle with Sora's memories. That is because she's half Sora half Kairi's nobody. At most, she could also control Kairi's memories too.
Actually, she can meddle with other people's memories. Just people connected to Sora....which is nearly everybody. It's why no one remembered him until his memories were restored to normal.
@@cillbipher2613 Yeah... I forgot about that whole thing... my God, Nomura, why do you have to do this? Did it even matter really? I mean, as far as I can remember, he just used that power as a throwaway line in KH2 when the group meets the Radiant Garden gang. And in fact, in 358, the OC gang (Riku, DiZ, Naminé, the whole Organization...) can remember Sora like normal, so I don't even understand what's happening here. At some point Riku said something on the lines of "The fog is clearing more and more", so does he remember him or not?
@@85Lokiloki Riku very likely experienced a hazy memory where he remembered Sora, but not completely. DiZ remembered completely because he didn't have a "connection" to Sora. He and Sora never really met at all. Naminé obviously remembers because she can't be effected by her own power. If she forgot who Sora was, she would literally have no idea what she's doing. And the Org is just like DiZ. They don't have a connection to Sora. And in Axel's case, he was hanging around with Sora's nobody and a bunch of people who talk about Sora so...
@@cillbipher2613 I see your point in that Org XIII and DiZ just "knew" Sora but never met him and therefore didn't have a connection, but why did the Radiant Garden gang completely forgot about him but not Riku? It can't be because he had a stronger connection because Kairi completely forgot about him. And what about "Robed Figure"? If the rule is that those that have directly met Sora formed a connection through which Naminé deleted Sora's existence, why didn't Xemnas forget about him? And the same goes for Axel, since he met Sora in CoM.
@@85Lokiloki Originally KH was going to have a simple plot, but Hironobu Sakaguchi felt that Kingdom Hearts would be a failure if the story wasn't as epic as a Final Fantasy game. Nomura took his advice way too far.
13:49 Holy...this actually blew my mind, I never put any thought to that. I know Naruto does that multitple times with its characters but I did not notice for this game.
If I could rewrite or change some aspects of this series I'd start by giving the player more choice. The game wouldn't be centered around only Sora but Kairi and Riku equally, allowing the player to choose which character to begin the game with, each having their own unique Dive into the Heart sequence that will prophesize their character developments . I'd change the way the three end up being separated, they would have actually managed to set sail on their raft together when their world is consumed by the darkness, the trio would witness their island swallowed up by a world eating void and as they struggle to sail away from its pull just when all hope seems lost the Keyblade chooses Sora, suddenly heartless begin pouring out of the void looking similar to the Demon Tide from KH3. They are attracted to the Keyblade and since Kairi and Riku are near Sora on the raft all three are pulled into the void ending up in different worlds. The three would follow the Sky Land and Sea archetypes a lot more closely, Sora representing the Sky and it's limitlessness and freedom, Riku representing the Sea and it's depth, mystery, and unpredictability, Kairi as the Land and it's steady and stable progression. I'd allow these archetypes to determine which worlds and situations would best suit each character's development either opposing or complimenting them. They'd reunite around 20% through the game after Riku and Kairi obtain their own Keyblades and the player would then be able to freely switch between the three. Not forgetting the other characters of course, who the trio would meet along the way. Mickey, Donald and Goofy are traveling together trying to find a way to stop the growing darkness from consuming all worlds. The Seven Princesses of Heart will still follow the same route, Kairi being the seventh, but due to Kairi now being a more competent and dependable character she will develop great control over the powers light will bestow upon her. The Final Fantasy group is admittedly difficult to fit in because of the vast differences between each game, but I don't blame the Disney characters and I disagree with your point about removing them, the Disney characters have this heartwarming effect on the story that I'm glad I was able to experience as a child and I've come to learn how much I value them over the years. Of course it'd also be really neat if Sora, Riku and Kairi receive their own set of Keyblade armor once they become Keyblade masters.
I REALLY like some of your criticisms so far, but for a lot of them you're simply misinformed or uninformed entirely on the matter. To give a couple examples, the "teaser trailers" as you called them, often referred to in-game and in the community as "secret endings", are nothing more than concepts that will make their way into the next major installment. (Also regarding the capes specifically, they were removed entirely from BbS because of the PSP's limited hardware. In the HD remaster, they made Terra's armor sprout a cape in a cutscene to please people who complained about the lack of capes.) This changed starting with DDD, but before then that is the case. The second is, your complaint about " inconsistent rendering"... You're comparing the final 2019/2020 renders to the pre-rendered CGI reveal trailer from nearly a decade ago, the second trailer from half a decade ago when the game had already been scrapped and started over from scratch in a totally separate game engine, a mid-development trailer from three years ago, and then a trailer toward the end of development two years ago. Comparing them is fine, but it's not a valid complaint in the slightest. The only issue there specifically is KH3 should've been announced in 2018, not 2013. Rendering between those trailers was obviously going to get better over time as the developers make the game and refine their assets.
"If I were inserted into a world where my actions or words had little to no effect on the world as a whole, I know I would get depressed" Basically summarizes Jevil in a nutshell.
@@hezureviews Originally KH was going to have a simple plot, but Hironobu Sakaguchi felt that Kingdom Hearts would be a failure if the story wasn't as epic as a Final Fantasy game. Nomura took his advice way too far.
If you love Kingdom Hearts, I suggest checking out the Legend of Heroes series. It's one of the best Jrpgs with one of the best consistent world-buildings in gaming.
@36:41-.-So, hear me out. We know of two confirmed incidences of people losing there hearts without there body becoming a nobody: throughout KH1 we see Kairi’s body without a heart, and it’s not a nobody, it’s just sleeping; we see Ventus’s body without his heart in both KH:BBS and KH3, and it’s not a nobody, it’s just sleeping. So what’s the difference between Kairi and Ventus’s case and Sora’s? It could be that both Kairi’s and Ventus’s hearts were pure light, while Sora’s wasn’t, but Kairi ends up getting a nobody after Sora loses both of there hearts, so that seems unlikely. But KH2 introduced the concept of the soul, why? It’s seemingly only introduced to explain why the nobodies are animate and can think, but as opposed to what? Sleeping…? So, maybe, in Kairi and Ventus’s cases their _souls_ went _with_ their hearts, which causes their bodies to be sleeping (and presumably not dead) _instead_ of becoming a nobody. Now, in HK1, Sora’s only experience with the Keyblade was his adventure in that particular game, and she only used it for basic magic, closing doors, and whacking people on the head, so (assuming such a thing is possible) Sora would not necessarily now how to separate his heart _along with_ his soul, but Xehanort is a keyblade _master_ (and an old one at that) and so (if possible) it would make sense for _him_ to know how. Which leaves the question, what about Xehanort’s body? It’s implied in KH3:rM that after Xehanort’s heartless and nobody were defeated, Terra’s body reformed without a heart or soul (possibly because his soul was in Lingering Well?) while Xehanort got his own body, along with keeping Terra’s heart. So there are two possibilities: 1). Xehanort’s heart and soul went back to his old body or 2). A new body for Xehanort was created, and Xehanort’s Old body is still out there somewhere as a sleepy boy. I wouldn’t put it past Nomura to pick up the ladder option and have Oswald or something puppet it for its power. (This story mechanic makes less sense the more you think about how it’s used.)
Oh sick, another hour long video! Love me some video essays. EDIT: And now I’m grumpy. THE TIDUS LAUGH IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND STUPID EDIT 2: The Vanitas taunting Ven about stealing his friends idea is super good, and makes the whole “It’s always about your friends/At least I have some” exchange even better!
If I recall, in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, the Genie is responsible for Sora existing, because when Ventus visited Agraba, he acquired the lamp. Afterwards, he used 2 of his wishes progressing through the level, and once he finished, he used the final one to wish to make an anti-version of Venitus.
i swearrrr so many kh characters have lost a lot of their traits. character development peaked with kh1 riku and then it stopped deadass. i mean, ofc characters can change over time, but that’s character development, and what’s happening rn is more or less sonic-franchise level forgetting about their character’s personalities. unfortunately, instead of being dynamic, they’re reduced to stock characters who only have selective traits that fill their role as a character. they done it with vani, aqua, kairi, and they’re beginning to do it w roxas like PLSS if there’s anyone who was on the right road for character development it was him 😭🤝 and then like you said they screwed him over when he had the most indifferent reaction to seeing ventus in the world. and don’t even get me started on aqua, like they worked on her character dev in 0.2 to which she was lonely and desperate bc of her lack of friendship. so it ticked me off so bad when she saw ven and just patted him on the head like he was a puppy or something. you’d expect her to completely break down or something but no. idk if i’m just being pedantic, but i am a real sucker for good character development so the lack of good characterisation within the franchise is so annoyinggggg

31:25 To your rapid fire questions: -Light is a tangible force of good in the KH universe which leads to happiness and rainbows and love. -Princesses of Heart are women with no darkness on their hearts. In KH3 retconned it into "women with an specific and unique power of light inside them". -"Why are there no natural vessels of darkness?" Don't know, probably there will be in KH4 twenty years in the future. -"Why can a Lingering Will exist?" At the beginning I thought it was Terra's heart, but since we know it is inside Terranort, there's no explanation... -Naminé was made when Sora stabbed himself in KH1 to free Kairi's heart. Supposedly, she was made with Kairi's heart and Sora's body, that's why she can meddle with Sora's memories. Roxas was made with Ventus heart and Sora's body, and Sora was reconstructed with Sora's heart and body and Kairi's power. -Xion was an imperfect copy of Roxas. Unlike Rikuplica, she needed the original's energy to sustain herself. She was implanted Sora's memories to acquire his power to wield the Keyblade. In fact, now that I think about it, maybe she was a perfect copy of Roxas, but it was the real Sora's essence inside her what was absorbing Roxas. -Memories are like a part of the Heart. We haven't seen physically a "memory", but still. -The crystal thing will be explained in KH4. It was the bad ending, so it's provably not cannon (unless Nomura wants to split the timeline into two, one for the good ending and one for the bad one). And I haven't heard the soul theory, so I don't know about that.
You made a point about characters like the Tron ones looking like they don't belong in the same world as Sora and the others buts that's kind of the point. Sora and the gang are outsiders when they enter the Disney worlds so it's international, tho they could ease on the uncanniness.

From what I understand, Disney is the reason why the Disney worlds couldn't actually be involved with the KH story besides "being in peril" idk why and I honestly stopped caring. Disney's intervention with KH is ultimately it's downfall.
dont even get me started on post kh3 content and the mobile game unchained story. u make all this seem so convoluted but the more u dig the deeper it goes, its insane.
What rules are inconsistent or are bent & broken?
Nomura would never write him out. Sora is Nomura’s son.
That kid can cut skyscrapers in half. He's not lacking in muscle at all.
Would you say that KH is more convoluted than HS?
slight correction, it's not that people can't destroy the heartless, it's the fact they can't set the trapped hearts free. anyone with a sword can take down a heartless, but if that heart is not set free specifically by a keyblade, that heart is still lost to the darkness and reformed into another heartless.
True
But I wonder if there's also some FF XV magic system here, in that those close to the royalty get some of the king/prince's powers. That would explain why Donald and Goofy can slay Heartless with Sora and would make the Radiant Garden war not worthless.
Leon downright says “Only the keyblade can destroy the heartless. That is why they fear the keyblade.” In KH1
@@OtioseFanatic Yeah... But KH1 is also the most retconned game of the saga. If he said "destroy", then as @ToxicMonster5 said, anybody can "destroy" a heartless, but only a keyblade can "set the hearts free".

So, princess peach syndrome
Princess Peach Syndrome is a sign of Bad Character Development!
To be fair, Peach has kinda learnt to do that Damsell in Distress thing with style.
Still wish she could do more, if she's able to do more there... but you know, it's hard to say if tradition for some classic running gag stuff like Bowser and Ganondorf is a good thing, or a bad thing and their should do something more original.

I think Only Sora can be seen as the dumb among the sky protagonists, since he is supposed to be like a shounen protagonist.
But nah.

Design inconsistency of the Disney world are because Disney strict guidelines to how the worlds have to look like their movie

You're right. Disney didn't want their properties to cross over, so they had Square put in the world order rule.
And then Disney made crossover episodes of their cartoons because fuck it.
They set the rule before realizing the fan gold mine they've closed off. Maybe, being captured and letting the events play out was the only way to win. She is a princess of heart and maybe they all have hidden powers not yet explained.

Your fixing kingdoms hearts plots inconsistencies?......so you’ve chosen death.
There is a reason Aqua doesn't age in the Realm Of Darkness. Because time flows differently there from that of the Realm Of Light.
More like NO time exists in the realm of darkness
I just wanted to point out when you mention KH3’s renders and how they’re all different, it’s because Square changed KH3’s engine from their in-house luminous engine to unreal engine 4. When we got the first KH3 trailer in 2013, that was made with the luminous engine and we wouldn’t get another look at the game until 2015 when they made the switch to UE4. The team had to learn UE4 while developing KH3 and that’s why it looks so drastic from 2015 to present with the release of remind. Hope that cleared things up!
They even lost a whole year of dev time due to the engine switch.
Aqua didn't age because time passes slower in the realm of darkness
This whole story is an example of under the influence with a pen.
or a writer who thinks his shit don't stink this franchise is in desperate need of a reboot
What a headache right??
28:26 technically they aren't sisters Xion was made from Sora's memories of Kairi while Namina is Kairi's nobody.
@@lizardlord4k Agreed, hell imagine having a world based around the Owl House or Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!

7:04 Tifa is me trying to get into and figure out the Kingdom Hearts but just give up...
Btw, Ven is ONLY in Land of Departure, not Castle Oblivion
alternate title grown women has a mental breakdown over the clusterfuck called the kingdom hearts story
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
For years I've felt like I've been the only person to notice these things about this series.
I got to 5:00 and thought to myself "Oh no. She's really *isn't* familiar with the series if she thinks that's an error."
"You know Nomura would pull this shit himself! Don't deny it!" I'm not! LMFAO!
Yeah, the nobody segment was my favorite segment.
Kingdom hearts has to be one of the most convoluted franchises ever made.
Kingdom Hearts for me is the perfect mix of bad writing with ridiculous events but great characters and epic moments. I don't want Kingdom Hearts to ever not be stupidly written. It is too much fun as the mess it is now.
At first I was like "Yeaaah, buuuuut..." and by the end of the video I was holding my head murmuring "You're right."
To be fair as she went on her points became less and less subjective or misinformed
@@madestmadhatter Don’t you mean less objective? Not subjective?
@@austinjohnsen4430 why do you think her opinions were initially factual nut became more about personal preference as she went on?

Kingdom Hearts just has some things to work on
I love Tangled and was extremely disappointed with how they had to stick so strictly to the movie. There could’ve been so much banter! Also great points on character issues. Great vid! I was dying at the Danny Phantom reference
You know what I just realized she would rather him possibly have TV shows they stopped him in the Big Hero 6 TV show you who they mad at this one or the Tangled one does you might not understand this but wow Kingdom Hearts wow they really don't want your that PV show do they remind me on a movie so see what they have to get Disney TV shows and Disney Channel original movie and oh my God I can't wait to see how long that would get so bad how's the weather today if you need her legs are like it's deadly lost our house The Owl House oh my God I want to see the show so bad but it takes time but it but it's on a giant open of a giant Titan yes I'm not kidding but I still want to see it in Kingdom Hearts come on give me Disney TV show for Kingdom Hearts give me Gravity Falls amphibia DuckTales reboot houses on season Disney reboots in Kingdom Hearts like Maleficent the movie Maleficent making into quinoa Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland are you going to see that in Kingdom Hearts so bad
The main issue with Kingdom Hearts is that Aqua doesn't have more screen time. When Aqua isn't on screen, all the other characters should be asking "where's Aqua?"
"There's a Xehenort missing."
Bitch, no.
We JUST closed that can of worms!
_Do not_ go opening it up again!
Small note about finding Roxas, sora had his heart but they were looking for his body. I suppose they should've said that explicitly but oh well~
To my understanding, Disney has a rule that Disney characters can only interact with characters they already have interacted with in Disney propertys before. So who Disney characters can interact with is limited, to my understanding that's the reason for the meddling thing (I'm told Donald and Goofy are the only exceptions)
I love Kingdom Hearts. You know what I love even more? Tearing it apart like a rabid guard dog!
Of course it'd also be really neat if Sora, Riku and Kairi receive their own set of Keyblade armor once they become Keyblade masters.
thats cool

" I hate kingdom hearts" is the common expression of all KH fans
When I ask my friends about kingdom hearts they always hesitate to explain. Now I know why.
Oh sick, another hour long video! Love me some video essays.

For Nomura the ground comes first before either of them
I missed you! Also I’m surprised you’re talking about Kingdom Hearts... now this is gonna be good
If I recall, in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, the Genie is responsible for Sora existing, because when Ventus visited Agraba, he acquired the lamp. Afterwards, he used 2 of his wishes progressing through the level, and once he finished, he used the final one to wish to make an anti-version of Venitus.
Do u mean roxas?
I love how you just tear it all apart, I love KH for all its flaws, flaws and all it cures my heart of it's hurt :)
i swearrrr so many kh characters have lost a lot of their traits. character development peaked with kh1 riku and then it stopped deadass. i mean, ofc characters can change over time, but that’s character development, and what’s happening rn is more or less sonic-franchise level forgetting about their character’s personalities.
unfortunately, instead of being dynamic, they’re reduced to stock characters who only have selective traits that fill their role as a character. they done it with vani, aqua, kairi, and they’re beginning to do it w roxas like PLSS if there’s anyone who was on the right road for character development it was him 😭🤝 and then like you said they screwed him over when he had the most indifferent reaction to seeing ventus in the world.
and don’t even get me started on aqua, like they worked on her character dev in 0.2 to which she was lonely and desperate bc of her lack of friendship. so it ticked me off so bad when she saw ven and just patted him on the head like he was a puppy or something. you’d expect her to completely break down or something but no.
idk if i’m just being pedantic, but i am a real sucker for good character development so the lack of good characterisation within the franchise is so annoyinggggg

31:25 To your rapid fire questions:
-Light is a tangible force of good in the KH universe which leads to happiness and rainbows and love.
