How to Hang a Sliding Barn Door
Nathan installed the Z-Bar Knotty Alder Wood Interior Sliding Barn Door Slab with Hardware Kit that can be found at The Home Depot. The kit comes with all the materials required to assemble and hang the door, though Nathan choose to add additional 3/4" stock in this application because the wall was not plumb and the door would have hit the baseboard otherwise.
For a finish, Nathan and Stephanie stained the door using a water based stain by Minwax. Both the stain and the rags and brushes needed to apply it can be found at home centers.
Comparing Roofing Materials
Tom compared a variety of roofing materials, including asphalt shingles, cedar shingles, metal, and clay tiles. These can all be found at a variety of home centers or from a roofing contractor and are more available in some regions of the country depending on the housing styles.
How to Troubleshoot Solar Panel Damage
Ross explained that squirrels will use solar panel wires as chew toys if they aren't properly protected. He suggested installing a solar panel critter guard to prevent squirrels and other critters from getting behind the solar panels.
How to Build a Simple Dry Well
Installing a simple dry well requires few tools and materials. Mark lined the trench with landscape fabric, which can be found at any home center. He then filled the trench and the hole with crushed stone, which can be found at masonry supply stores and some home centers. The pipe he installed was two sections of solid PVC pipe and one section of 4" perforated PVC pipe. The pipe and the PVC glue required to secure the connections, are found at home centers.
When installing a dry well in a small yard with little space for leeching, Mark also suggests installing a plastic basin in the hole to allow for more controlled drainage. This yard was massive and slightly sloped downhill away from the house, so the plastic basin wasn't necessary.

i remember the very 1st episode - project house in Dorchester in 1979 Ive seen every episode of This Old House up to present and I still enjoy the show to this day :
I love how much you guys have grown since the 70's. This show is so soothing to the soul. I just wish my Dad was still here because he would have loved this show.
My first thought about the barn door was that it would cover up an outlet. And it did. I wish they'd shown how to relocate the outlet to maybe 4-5 feet further down the wall so that whether the door is open or closed, the homeowner has a fully-functional outlet on the wall. As-is, they can only use the outlet when the door is closed. That's a great way to get your phone charger destroyed when your spouse comes out of the bathroom.
Next year on TOH, How to remove a sliding barn door and replace it with the latest trendy thing.
Thank god its pretty much on its way out. I dont care how cool your wife or GF is, we need a door on the freaking bathroom. That shuts and locks. Kids are also a huge issue. With these doors.

Barn Door: Please in a follow up to this great installation video I suggest mentioning the easily installed accessory hydraulic door stoppers/closers. You can slide the barn door at any reasonable force/speed and these units not only dampen/slow the speed, but additionally then finish closing the door flush in the open or closed position. PS - easily added and installed even on completed doors at a later date. Relatively inexpensive too.

Nice to see all these great videos. With all the rain during summer 2023, recently my dry well was so flooded that it backed up into my washer drain out. Consequently my basement flooded. What a mess. Would love to move the well away from under the back door deck and expand it out further into the yard. Perhaps bigger so this never happens again. Would love some help. Thanks! In the first segment that ladder/staircse to the office looks like an accident waiting to happen. In the drainage segment they did nothing to address getting the runoff from that downspout further from the house.

Insulation on those solar panels was made from delicious soy oil just like Romex electrical wire in your house.

Sorry guys, you missed a very big step on this one. You either just did not comment about CALLING BEFORE YOU DIG, or didn't call them. You certainly did not point out the importance of such a call. Even on private property, there can be hidden digging hazards, up to and including unmarked electrical utility crossings property, to gas lines crossing a property to get to the next property. ALWAYS call before you dig, NO EXCEPTIONS that I am aware of.

I've watched TOH since I was a kid and I've gotten so used to hosts having great charisma and the ability to make me believe they're genuinely invested in the projects, this new Nathan is nice but he's almost monotone and very quiet! :/

Insurance Companies in our state only give homeowner 12 yr life on asphalt shingles, no matter what grade they are. Homeowner doesn't replace them after the 12 yr mark, insurance is canceled

I have a about a 100 plus year old dug well on my property I used for water the first two years. Now I use it for gray water and as a dry well. Works perfectly.

@@augustreil that I no longer use yes. Also It stopped replenishing water after 2 years hence the reason I went with a drilled well. It was surface water and had to be filtered twice to be used.

The manufacturer probably says that it has to be replaced and cannot be just repaired at the wires. Possible liability and safety issues, also they probably want to make more money just selling the company or homeowner a new one

What about the downpipe from the roof directly onto the grass. And if all the roof water outlets are the same, surely that will create a waterlogged lawn? I am just a viewer, not an expert, so this is a question not a criticism.
Agree. That’s where the foundation water is coming from in the rainy season. I would have suggested to connect both in a “Y” joint then running into the well or further off down into the property.

Another garbage job by Mark. No glue on his joints, he only puts the drywell another 20 feet away instead of further off into the huge lot, and then just ignores all the downspouts on the house that dump water against the foundation. The owner's problem will still exist and they may as well have just not done anything. Next time have it all run in pipes off the property or to a far edge in a passive system if you can do it or pumped if not.
He said they glued them up.They just didn't show it because it's a waste of time
