We can all have our own opinions, but I've always thought Bobby to be a very straight shooter. When Bobby first became ill, I searched online and came across an email address for him and sent him a thoughtful email. He actually took the time to write me back. I truly believe he valued his fans and appreciated hearing from them.
My favorite Heenan quote is, responding to Gorilla Monsoon's statement that the Wrestlemania was at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Monsoon told Bobby, there will be free drinks. Bobby quipped, "I'll be there!"
According to Jesse Ventura, he hated Hogan because he wanted to form a wrestler's union, but Hogan ratted him out to Vince McMahon. I don't know if it's true or not.
Hogan and Ventura were apparently friends until Jesse learned that Hulk had ratted him out to McMahon about his plans to unionise the wrestlers. Hulk Hogan was allegedly earning more than all the other wrestlers put together and allegedly foresaw his slice of the WWF pie becoming smaller if his colleagues demanded a larger percentage.
Only a true narcissist would be incapable of understanding as to why Jesse Ventura might have felt betrayed by Hulk Hogan, an individual whom he had previously considered a friend but who metaphorically speaking stabbed him in the back at a crucial juncture in the wrestling business. The WWF was massive back in those days. There was a good living to be made for everyone if the profits were to be shared-out more fairly. The highest earners and the biggest draw to the sport could still have enjoyed a lavish lifestyle if they and the owners of the business were prepared to allow some of those profits to trickle down to those wrestlers who earned a lot less. Is that really such a difficult concept to grasp? Perhaps it is. For I guess that these are the times of greed and rampant self-interest in which we now live. I've seen Jesse Ventura give a number of speeches, interviews and presentations which are available online. I don't know how anyone could hear such a talented individual speak only to suggest that such a man is "very stupid". But then again I don't have a self-contained flat up my own a*se.
That’s funny to hear, because Bobby’s on screen persona always went out of his way to express his contempt for Hogan. Some of these guys were such brilliant hilarious actors. So entertaining. GOAT.
That's the beauty of their professionalism and a testament on how good they were. They made you believe they really hated each other. But they were really good friends. Hogan even wrote a 2 page foreword on "Bobby the Brain: Wrestling's Bad Boy Tells All" book on how much he admired Bobby.
Whoever is behind this channel needs a huge THANK YOU! Absolutely made me go back to my childhood. The older I get the more I miss these days and the more I forget them lol

According to Jesse Ventura's RF Video/Title Match Wrestling Shoot Interview, Jesse said that his friendship with Hogan went downhill when Hulk snitched to Vince about Jesse forming an union.
Exactly! Vince went and fired all the wrestlers that were trying to convince everyone to form a union. Vince admitted all of this during a deposition when Ventura successfully sued him in the 1990s. Paul Tagliabue, the former NFL Commissioner, met with Ventura in Vegas and told him that the wrestlers should form a union, which is where Ventura got the idea from.
If your to young to not know or seen Bobby Heenen announce and preform “like in his weasel costume” you need to watch some. He was an amazing speaker and would keep you entertained as an announcer in the WWF and WCW. RIP sir
Wow. As a kid I never would have imagined myself sitting here right now watching this and hearing Heenan say that stuff. That is really wild. Long ago my dad told me that all of those guys in wrestling that "hated" each other were actually buddies. The kayfabe stuff was just an illusion and here we see that very clearly. Heenan wanted to manage Hogan that whole time.
I remember, many years ago, going to see Wahoo McDaniels fight Ivan Koloff in one of the meanest, bloodiest fights ever. After the show we went to a little dive diner just up from the auditorium and they were sitting together at a table eating and laughing with each other. Was cool as hell (got both autographs), but kinda sucked because it showed me (as a younger fan) that wrestling was all staged.
GREATEST wrestling talent ever! He could talk, he could bump and wrestle proven by his "Pretty Boy Heenan" run. He could get guys over, het heat, work commentary with the best of the best. Nobody else before or since like Bobby Heenan.
What I really love and appreciate about Bobby is he straight to the point mindset that wrestling is a business and about 3 things, being a draw, getting over and making money. His love for the business is so clear and I really respect that. Bobby Heenan is the absolute GOAT when it comes to all things pro-wrestling.
Looking back at my youth Bobby was definitely a huge part of the entertainment in the business, so good at making you hate him, definitely an icon of that era
Another great video Title Match! I wonder if this wrestling notion is true : that your great admirations come from your best enemies. I think Heenan has a point that Jesse Ventura had some jealousy because Hogan became the star Ventura felt he could have been and was worse that he had to be on the sidelines and watch. Also , The Ventura-Union-Hogan scandal burned the bridge completely.
Exactly! Vince went and fired all the wrestlers that were trying to convince everyone to form a union once Hogan spilled the beans. Vince admitted all of this during a deposition when Ventura successfully sued him in the 1990s. Paul Tagliabue, the former NFL Commissioner, met with Ventura in Vegas and told him that the wrestlers should form a union, which is where Ventura got the idea from.
WrestleMania III was a huge night for Heenan as well as for Hogan and Andre. I would to hear him talk about that night, as well as the weeks leading up to it, beginning with Jack Tunney's announcement that Andre's suspension had been lifted.
Hogan also ruined then WWF wrestlers’ chance at becoming unionized by telling McMahon what the wrestlers wanted to do. Vince McMahon admitted what Hogan did while giving a deposition. That’s another reason why Ventura didn’t like Hogan.
@@Duck_Dodgers He already said "so what." We all love and respect Heenan, but Ventura had gripes beyond what Bobby's stating in this interview. Jesse has always come off as a fairly honest guy, and the reason I say "fairly," is because we all lie to some extent when something matters to us. That being said, Vince also tried to prevent Jesse from acting in films with Schwarzenegger, like "Predator." Vince was angry because he wanted a piece of that "Predator" pie. Still, I believe Bobby's an honest guy, and knew more about the business of pro wrestling than most ever will.
I think Jesse's dislike of Hogan was the reason he left WCW in 94. Once Hogan joined Jesse couldn't put the beef aside and left. So yeah there was and probably still is, huge beef there.
It's possible. But Bischoff said he fired Jesse because they were about to start a Nitro or some other televised show and Jesse was supposed to be commentating on it. Jesse was nowhere to be found so Bischoff went to look for him. When Bischoff found him, Jesse was sleeping in the back and that pissed Bischoff so much because he thought Jesse didn't care about the job, so he got fired on the spot.
@@andrewvincent7299 Bischoff specifically said that it wasn't the only reason he fired Jesse. Bischoff has mentioned that if that was the only issue, he wouldn't have fired him. It was just the last straw.
He is totally right here . Jesse was awesome on the mic but was not a good wrestler . Its funny cause Jesse in one of his interviews said he don't think of Hogan , he had a state to run but I believe Heenan . Jesse was jealous , like a lot of guys were of Hogan .
Heenan was at his best in "uncensored" and "UN-supervised" situations. He could have done stand up comedy and slayed audiences. his wit was that quick. No other manager came close.
I heard another wrestler say something that paints Johnny Valentine in a negative light. He filled a wrestlers inhaler with deodorant or some substance ready for when came back from his match. Can you imagine if he was having an asthma attack?
He's right. Neither of the Valiants are someone I'd have beers and talk the business. Kevin Sullivan? I was a mere padawan in the presence of a Master. Haku? Bob Orton? JJ Dillon? Sam Houston? All wonderful.
I'm glad I was able to watch a whole lot of Prime Time Wrestling on Peacock. Bobby really dominated that show. I had no idea that show existed before getting access to that WWE library. I didn't start watching wrestling until 1996 and Bobby was already in WCW by then.
@@XjasondagX- That was out of surprise. Cornette uses too much shock value when he talks and tells stories. it’s kind of pathetic seeing a 62 year old man spaz out like he was ADHD, hold 25 year old grudges, and talk like an elementary school kid who just discovered what curse words are. I’m not even going to go into what I think about his followers.
Jesse could never be the star Hogan was but the genius of McMahon saw that Jesse could be a star as a broadcast commentator. I think Jesse was the greatest commentator ever, he was hilarious and his voice was perfection.
I heard Ventura say, many years ago, that the wrestlers were trying to organize a union, and that Hogan told Vince McMahon about it and Vince squashed it. He said he considered Hogan a "friend" until this.
Bobby is wrong about Hogan being concerned about Jesse Ventura. Remember, when Jesse Ventura was Governor of Minnesota, Hogan actually had Vince McMahon call Jesse in order to ask if Jesse was going to have Hogan arrested when Hogan visited Minnesota to promote a book. Hogan did this because Hogan believed Jesse was still angry with him due to the fact that Hogan stopped Jesse's plan to form a Union in the wrestling industry, which Hogan stopped by ratting everybody out and telling Vince McMahon. Jesse said, "Vince, tell Hogan I have far bigger concerns in life than Hulk Hogan." There is no doubt Bobby Heenan has things backwards on that particular subject - at least from that point in time.
I Think this is the first time I ever heard Heenan speak positively about Hogan. Goes to show how much these guys were about keeping the appearance the story in real life.
Actually no, most wrestlers were cool with him, its the melter and cornette fans who twist everything negative. The wrestlers that do hate Hulk all unironcally have the worst reputations with the other wrestlers - Brett, Savage, Shawn, Warrior, etc.
It's funny how you see people differently when you get older. As a kid watching wrestling, depending on your personal values, you cheer the good guys and hate the bad guys. The managers copped it worse because of the way they'd interfere in the matches, and you just want to see a fair match. Then you get older, understand wrestling is business, and now that it is mostly a work (kayfabe was strong when I was younger), and you begin to see the bad guys for what they are; an essential component to any match, because if there were not bad guys, who would you cheer for? The same can be said of any movie or TV show. I used to hate Major Burns and Major Winchester in MASH, because I was too young to understand their role and appreciate their characters' motivations. Once you can see past the surface, things become a lot clearer, and the lines between good and bad become very blurry, at least on TV.
Bobby "The Brain/Weasel" Heenan is a smart man, who was the manager of (many) champions; he was also great on the mic/stick, with his promo work & funny zingers at "Prime Time Wrestling's" late co-host, Gorilla Monsoon (post-TNT ("Tuesday Night Titans") show; pre-"Monday Night RAW" days from the Manhattan Center, in New York (specifically mid-town Manhattan); when the first RAW shows were only 1 HOUR long.)... Now, RAW is like 3 hours long, just like WCW's Monday Nitro show. "Oh, Will you Stop !" - Gorilla Monsoon
I agree Heenan was easily the greatest manager, but people are sleeping on his commentary with Gorilla Monsoon. He and Gorilla had some absolute gems since Heenan basically stayed a heel in commentary while calling. I didn’t know until after he died that he and Gorilla were like best friends in real life and it killed his when gorilla passed away. He was in WCW at the time and had to do commentary on Nitro the whole night while mourning the great Gorilla Monsoon.
Anybody who thinks there is a better Manger in wrestling today needs to listen to Bobby talk for 5 min then they would understand he knows more than anybody in wrestling than most management.
I think it’s the opposite. I think Hulk Hogan thought about Jesse Ventura as Ventura gained success outside of wrestling. Ventura starred in better films, became Governor of Minnesota, and hosted his own television show. Jesse Ventura said “I cannot be friends with someone I don’t trust.” I fully agree with Ventura.
Heenan stayed true all those years. When Hogan turned heel in WCW, Heenan, as an announcer, said he appreciated the attitude change but still hated him. He never put Hogan over in a positive way in all those years. Kept the character alive from start to finish.
Hogan and Ventura both copied Billy Graham. Hogan got over big time in the ring. Ventura had health issues and he couldn't do much in the ring. Ventura was actually more famous for his time as a commentator than he was as an in ring guy. He was one of the greatest on the mic.
It's interesting to watch interviews from different people about this world and see the differing opinions. Heenan loved Hogan but many others don't. Different people say different things about Ventura too. Personally I have to say that Hogan put on a far better show in the ring. That guy could work the crowd with the best. Ventura was a much better commentator than a ring presence. He was great at that. Much better than Hogan would have been. One thing that doesn't vary though is what people say about Bobby Heenan. Everyone says good things about him.
If Hogan is good enough for the Brain, he’s good enough for me. The Hogan hate turns me off. He made wrestling mainstream which helped everyone in the business. I know he’s flawed, but the jealousy is ugly.
The only legit reason to hate Hogan is the bigoted stuff he got busted saying. I forgave it but I can understand if other people don't. If you hate Hogan because he played politics EVERY wrestler did that.
When he said Jesse wanted to be Superstar Billy Graham, it made me realize Jesse was dressing and acting kind of like Graham. I never thought about that before.
@@dr.floridamanphd I'm a Minnesotan. The reason Jesse wasn't more popular is because Minnesota's a libtard state. Blue until the damn wheels fall off...
@@dr.floridamanphdTo be fair this was a state where the political elite turned Paul Wellstone’s funeral into a campaign rally and was the *only* state Reagan didn’t take in his ‘84 election, it’s solid blue. His love for the business is so clear and I really respect that. Bobby Heenan is the absolute GOAT when it comes to all things pro-wrestling.
Looking back at my youth Bobby was definitely a huge part of the entertainment in the business, so good at making you hate him, definitely an icon of that era
I love the brain being 100% straight up
Another great video Title Match!
@@darrylskylar8757 Gene Upshaw gave Jesse the idea.
💯📠
So what
@@Duck_Dodgers He already said "so what." We all love and respect Heenan, but Ventura had gripes beyond what Bobby's stating in this interview.
So what?
Hogan was/is a stooge.
Bobby Heenan was the absolute best heel manager & commentator. Him & Gorilla used to have me dying laughing…I can hear Gorilla now…”Would you stop!” 😂
Love Bobby he is honest and straitforward.
@@andrewvincent7299 any link to that, i used to hear too but can't find it anymore on TH-cam
@@andrewvincent7299 Bischoff specifically said that it wasn't the only reason he fired Jesse. Bischoff has mentioned that if that was the only issue, he wouldn't have fired him. It was just the last straw.
It's a refreshing take on Hogan. He has his faults, but at the end of the day, Hulk Hogan was, and still is Pro Wrestling.
The Brain was a very genuine, forthright guy. Yeah, most of the criticism of Hogan is player haters, straight up.
Apparently Bobby didn't think much of Valient or Ventura.
Bobby was one of the best at cutting promos and later doing commentary. He is missed.
It's a shame he never had a podcast.
Bobby was a class act when out of character, not a four letter word came out of his mouth, unlike Jim Cornett where every other word is the F bomb
You clearly have not seen the January 96 Clash of the Champions lol. He definitely let a four letter word out that night
Btw it's cornette..
@@CBright7831 on top of it he's a socialist nut case.
@@CBright7831it’s less him “doing shock value” and more that you’re “shocked” at hearing a grown man swear. Sounds like a fuckin *you* problem lol
THIS INTERVIEW IS PHENOMENAL!!!
Most interesting. Thanks for posting. Liked and shared.
Bobby was a hell of an announcer too, particularly in WCW, he had me believing that he really hated Hogan, but apparently not so
Jesse could never be the star Hogan was but the genius of McMahon saw that Jesse could be a star as a broadcast commentator. I think Jesse was the greatest commentator ever, he was hilarious and his voice was perfection.
I agree. It's a BIG reason I like a lot of the old broadcasts so much. Jesse's commentary.
Bobby was so believable. You really believed he hated Hogan with a passion. Man is he missed.
I heard Ventura say, many years ago, that the wrestlers were trying to organize a union, and that Hogan told Vince McMahon about it and Vince squashed it. He said he considered Hogan a "friend" until this.
Such an intelligent, perceptive man. Rip
Jesse is still angry at hogan for that
I really enjoy these shoots with The Brain. Smart man
Jesse Ventura was and still is jealous of Hulk Hogan
Say what you want about Hogan, if you've met him in person you know what a cool, mellow guy he is for real. I trust what the Brain says.
I miss and love you. Much respect Mr. Heenan!
I Think this is the first time I ever heard Heenan speak positively about Hogan. Goes to show how much these guys were about keeping the appearance the story in real life.
Kay fabe 4 life
Nice to hear somebody of his stature say good things about Hogan. Most videos are wrestlers trashing him.
Love Bobby, he was awesome, and so funny! RIP Brain.
Amazing Isn't it, on screen Heenan HATED Hogan but behind the scenes were great friends.
Heenan was a businessman. He knew he could make more money working with Hogan than he could with anybody else. Heenan was no dummy.
Heenan managing a heel Hogan would have been amazing!
Bobby was hilarious. He made me laugh so much.
Anybody who thinks there is a better Manger in wrestling today needs to listen to Bobby talk for 5 min then they would understand he knows more than anybody in wrestling than most management.
RIP Super Star Billy Graham. He was so ahead of his time Hogan and Ventura idolized him.
💯 Do you remember when he and Bischoff were so bitter about it, they had Hollywood do a terrible Presidential bid on TV for a pointless angle?
But yet Hogan has waaaaaaayyyyyy more money.
Heenan stayed true all those years. When Hogan turned heel in WCW, Heenan, as an announcer, said he appreciated the attitude change but still hated him. He never put Hogan over in a positive way in all those years. Kept the character alive from start to finish.
Hogan wouldnt work with Rude or Roberts. He wouldnt put Hart over.
It's hard to picture but it would still have been interesting to imagine Hulk Hogan as a member of the Heenan Family wrestling stable.
Heenan vs heyman
The insults would be off the charts.....
Rip heenan
"Jesse was a great talker, wore some strange outfits, but when the bell ring.. it was over"
Thats why he's called The Brian.
This man was such a part of my childhood. I hated him as a kid. As a man now i love him and miss him. What a giant of the business.
Hogan and Ventura both copied Billy Graham. Hogan got over big time in the ring. Ventura had health issues and he couldn't do much in the ring. Ventura was actually more famous for his time as a commentator than he was as an in ring guy. He was one of the greatest on the mic.
god, I love hearing this man talk. 100 percent truth
Hulk Hogan's gimmick was a Superstar ripoff too. It wasn't an accident that every other word out of his mouth is "brother".
Yeah, I think Hogan was far more of a Billy Graham copycat. But props to Hogan, he got it over to a cosmic degree.
@@RedfishCarolina In any event, it shows just how influential Graham was in the wrestling world.
Randy savage Scott Steiner Hulk Hogan copied Graham aswell
When Graham returned to the WWF in 87 Jesse kept accusing Graham of copying him. It was hilarious 😂
Jesse did fine as a Actor & Govrrnor

He was so good at governing that he quit after 4 years 😂
By the end of his term his approval rating was 43%.
