    When I taught music, a student took one lesson and never came back. Years later, after he arrived on the scene leading a band, he told me that he worked on that one lesson for the entire summer. As you mention in this video, you’re giving us enough to work on for years. I believe it!
    Between the first 9 tips video and this one, you’ve laid out a progressive road map that, if followed, I believe will lead to expert skills.
    I’ll add that it’s obvious from your down to earth and (for lack of a better word) “organic” presentation style that you’re a genuinely unpretentious caring person. I’m sure I’m not the only one of your viewers who senses that.
    Back to the lesson, one of the most valuable things I learned was from watching you make several approaches to that last dive through the trees. The scouting of the path in reverse and the aborted attempts were as instructive, if not more so, than the final successful run.
    I’m enjoying your vlogs here as well, as they offer a moment-to-moment glimpse into the planning processes and (sometimes wild) inner dialogue of someone looking to push his limits to the edge.
    I guess I just want to express deep appreciation for your enormous efforts to pass along your knowledge and skills.
    You’re a gift and one of the best kept secrets on this site. I wish you thousands of likes and subs. Thank you, Tom.

      @@TheTomJon I’m heading out for my second sports mode flight with the DJI (only have the one pack). Acro in the sim, GPS IRL.
      I’m not too pleased with the DJI camera so far. We see published lots of fairly pretty footage of water, grass and shoreline rocks, but in my testing on leaveless trees, the branch detail in the low mids is just a smear. Reminds me of the original Mavic cam.

    Best start to finish explanation w/ great footage that I've seen yet! Many of these we use in FAA Part 91 aerobatic and some mountain-flying training (wing-overs & hammerheads) in CO and WY, especially in box-canyons and other environments that can lead you to an early grave if the maneuvers are not practiced. Muscle memory is the key like you said - and an aircraft is an aircraft, whether a drone or Piper Arrow... and flying skills are perishable and need to be practiced :-)

      I have about 1500 hours in RL since 2015 lol... I actually used to do Leth's training packs every morning with my coffee; then I discovered FPV and switched to doing drills like this in Liftoff every morning... Def give Liftoff on steam a try if you dont have it yet... it's AMAZING.... I rarely play rocket league anymore now that Liftoff has replaced it.... Just open this or Part 1 of these drills on your phone while playing Liftoff and go through them one at a time til you get comfortable with them.

I usually start with Liftoff and then play RL and I feel like it has helped my car control in RL. I could just be crazy but the fine adjustments on the sticks is key to master both.

    Hi TomJon. I heard those gunshots. I hope they weren't shooting at your drone! At 3:10 and 3:45, you do a roll but your throttle is not down. I thought you should put the throttle down during a flip or roll like your first one?

    • @TheTomJon
      @TheTomJon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice catch and attention to detail! I was flying into the wind here is my excuse; if you notice 3:45 I get "thrown around" but thats also because I didn't drop throttle enough. Filming this day was not ideal conditions... I could give a more convoluted excuse about how I don't use Air Mode and dropping thottle to zero with my drone is a bad idea... but alas they are all excuses. Indeed though, you should "drop throttle" mainly so you don't accelerate yourself with gravity towards the ground while inverted. Hope this explains it.

    • @360vroomers

    Can we do all these with DJI Avata?
    What's the best FPV drone to learn FPV? I am looking for drones that will not break my bank if I crash them (many times, lol)

    • @TheTomJon
      @TheTomJon  ปีที่แล้ว

      They'll be hard on the Avata as it's a cinewhoop and pretty underpowered for the weight (made for efficiency not power). Avata doesn't handle well if you thrust towards your momentum (propwash). If you havn't bought anything yet -- a beginner brushless tinywhoop kit is the way to go, they're insanely good learning tools.

Diving in deep to holes (most time crash, its so hard ) through small holes at max speed and fast turning is going pretty good. Play rocket league for 5 years in the top 0.2%, probably this will help to get a feel for it faster. Where I'm afraid of is that I'll get into bad habits. I use flat thumb on the sticks and i see you pinch it. Do i need to pinch it? If u ever wanna do training online, discord or whatever. Im willing for pay for it for sure :)

    • @TheTomJon

      You would just want to release the gimbal tension on the throttle axis (for me that is left stick up and down); and you can land with automated systems for sure... they are pretty good! @MrScottgp ปีที่แล้ว

    So you don't want to bank in turns? Isn't that the point?

    • @TheTomJon
      @TheTomJon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Negative; bank should be used as a micro-correction in high-level flying to fix timing mistakes. 2-axis coordinated turns are far more consistent than 3(4)-axis yank-and-bank turns. Yaw+roll = turning (don't have to adjust throttle if coordinated) ; Pitch+throttle = altitude ... using Roll + Pitch + Throttle (and eventually yaw depending on the degrees of your turn -- not to mention when your pitch increases over 45 degrees you would be Yaw + Pitch + Throttle completely changing the axis's) introduces way more inconsistencies and doesn't allow you to make quick independent axis micro-corrections. The term "FPV" has gained the notion of "rolling turns" because of DJI "FPV MODE" unlocking the roll axis of gimbals.
