    Lyrics below:
    Harmful elements in the air
    Symbols clashing everywhere
Reaps the fields of rice and reeds
    While the population feeds
    Junk floats on polluted water
An old custom to sell your daughter
Would you like number twenty three?
Leave your yens on the counter please
    Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
    Hong Kong Garden
    Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
    Hong Kong Garden
    Oh oh, oh oh
Tourists swarm to see your face
    Confucius has a puzzling grace
    Disoriented you enter in
    Unleashing scent of wild jasmine
Slanted eyes meet a new sunrise
A race of bodies small in size
Chicken Chow Mein and Chop Suey
    Hong Kong Garden takeaway
La la la, la la la la la
    Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh
    Hong Kong Garden
    Ho-oh, ho-oh-oh-oh

The Hong Kong garden is now called the noble house, it’s located in chislehurst kent (my local takeaway), opposite was a clothes shop called spellbound and just up the road is a cafe called mirage. A lot of the late 70’s punk bands were from around here, back then they were dubbed the Bromley Contingent. This is My most favourite song ever and it is 40 years old today....

My dad’s girlfriend was a goth in the 80s so recommended me a few bands but I found Siouxie a few months ago after I developed an interest in goth and punk (I also really like riot grrrl) and they’ve quickly become my favourite band to listen to. If you think the title sounds like the name of a Chinese restaurant, you're right. Said Siouxsie: "I'll never forget, there was a Chinese restaurant in Chislehurst called 'The Hong Kong Garden.' Me and my friend were really upset that we used to go there and like, occasionally when the skinheads would turn up it would really turn really ugly. These gits were just go in on mass and just terrorize these Chinese people who were working there. We'd try and say 'Leave them alone,' you know. It was a kind of tribute." (from , August 6, 2001.

Here in Ireland, we haven't been allowed watch TV or Netflix for just over one year. Also, water is very restricted & we are only allowed one visit to the toilet per month. Food is delivered to our door once every five weeks. And thats just rice. This lockdown shit sure is hard. TH-cam is the only thing we have. Please donate some money so me & my family can go to live in North Korea for a better life. Please....i beg you to save us 🙏

Man, that is such a killer tune, Ive always loved this song, and seeing her dancing with that arrogant cool demeanour and, brimming with pure raw talent. I remember Souxsie in bleached blonde hair posing and sniggering amongst a Punk mob in a TV studio during an infamous Sex Pistols interview. I was even thinking to myself at the age of like 12- that hard-faced girl will never turn out to be anything useful. Boy was I wrong about this talented beauty!

Deane Walpole Blimey, back in the day in England, the Joe Strummers and Gary Numans of this world were just a dime a dozen. Now they have assumed status as mythical God's, and rightly so in this now barren landscape of pop monotony

With due respect, why is a stream of abuse of Hong Kong so brilliant? She knows nothing about the place, and even got our currency wrong. The yen is the currency used by China, not Hong Kong.

A curious, edgy, captivating amalgam of punk immediacy and pop smarts, this song was truly something special in the post-punk world in which it arrived, and remains fresh and raw to this day. Steeped in the best type of pop song catchiness, its awareness and intoxicating riff grab you from the very start, coupled with a brash, upfront vocal that teems with confidence (maybe arrogance) that is arresting. When I heard this for the first time (like all songs that do something to you), this stopped me in my tracks right away. The video does the song great service also, expressing much visually from what would seem on the surface to be very little. Siouxsie's dancing and 'matter of fact' delivery say more in a few minutes about indie attitude and punk aesthetics than most bands could deliver in a lifetime. Some kind of greatness in barely three minutes, it's cool yet controlled, chaotic at the edges yet unbelievably hip.......this will never fade, despite some lyric analyst naysayers' comments. I cannot tire of hearing this; I'll love it forever. Thank you, Siouxsie and the band. For me, your 'city' will never 'lie in dust'!!

I'd say observations like "Manchild", 'from Boomerang' (The Creatures, which was Siouxsie and Budgie's side project), is about an actual vendetta between two families in Columbia. Also inspirations for imagery, for example "Congo Conga" (probably my most favorite B-side!) has lots of African imagery in the lyrics

the least she could do is get it correct though..."put your yen on the counter please". Hong Kong isn't part of Japan and doesn't use Yen as a currency. My friends and I were laughing at how ludicrous and wrong her lyrics were. Great song nonetheless
