It's not even in this track, many of the smiths songs had interesting sounds and instruments. Even with his new stuff he implements lots of different things.
"There's a club if you'd like to go, You could meet somebody who really loves you, So you go and you stand on your own, And you leave on your own, And you go home and you cry and you want to die" - I felt that and related to that so hard, definitely my thought process on a average night out.
I do better with meeting people when I go out alone. Its almost hard to believe. Girls will sit right next to me at an empty bar. I'll be back at it once covid is done. GL buddy.
That's why I didn't go out nights in my twenties, thirties, and now. Besides, I'd had enough of people after a typical day... After you've been kicked in the nuts psychologically by enough people, that "wanting to die" feeling goes away somewhat. Ya just don't care anymore...
@@nicholasrhodes4550 I know what you mean. I'm only 29, but it's hard to imagine that feeling evolving much beyond this point. Would you say that it does? I wish TH-cam still had direct messaging. Wouldn't mind talking about it at length if you want.
“There’s a club if you’d like to go, you could meet somebody who really loves you. So you go and you stand on your own. And you leave on your own, and you go home and you cry and you want to die.” How can somebody articulate something so heavenly painful?
I remembered being picked last in sports teams in school, but really the glass was half full. Everyone feels sad, its a mood. Sometimes you go to a club, and you find someone who loves Morrissey more than you, you go to bed with him, and you're on your own. But you still have " How Soon Is Now"
The fucking guitar sound in this song is absolutely spine tingling. Marr is a genius. Morrissey's vocals are absolute perfection too. Most underrated band ever when it comes to sales and general appreciation.
You must be joking? They were one of the most hyped acts ever. The darlings of the music press. They did some good stuff admittedly (& this track is a classic) but if anything they were overrated, not underrated
Mar wasn't such a good guitarist but he was amazingly creative in the way he took a few amps and effects pedals and used them to get a unique sound that was highly entertaining. Being a guitarist myself with very limited playing ability I've gotten better response from audiences playing with my band than hard core musicians did playing at the same venue .I made very likable sounds with the guitar that captured people senses. It not how good the musicians are , it's how well the audience listening , likes it .Kurk Cobain is another example of that . He barely knew how to play guitar . But he was a great entertainer with a very likable sound .
I learnt to play the song in about an hour . And I'm the worst guitarist from canarsie .There are a few different people showing how to play it on TH-cam
If I liked the song and I wanted to do a cover it may take me a week or so to do it .I listened to it and didn't think much of it . I listened to all the songs I could find on the Smiths and Johnny Marr because I like How Soon Is Now so much . I find it's the only song I like of Marrs and the Smiths. If Marr wrote the music to that song , he most likely wrote what came natural to him with the style and from what patterns he uses to practice with . Marr may be able to play that song with ease because it's in him . He may have trouble learning what music I have written . It's just repetitious practice .I'm learning How Soon Is Now because someone I know wants to do a cover of the song when she gigs out . She writes her own material ,both music and lyrics , but feels she want's to do a few covers in between her own stuff. Since she moved here from another town and doesn't have her band anymore I may get to play out as part of her band .I'm old and rusty but there's nothing more I like than playing in a band and gigging out . Here's the person's own materialwho want's to do a Marr's cover . If ya think it isn't to your liking be easy with criticism. People get their feelings hurt when people make negative comments of their art . th-cam.com/video/bSokxhIbJGg/w-d-xo.html
Morrissey is a genius writing timeless lyrics, his vocals and the rest of the band made beautiful music together. Without Morrissey's talent, the band would have never made it in the competitive and awesome decade of 80s music.

I was 18 and remember back in 1988, this was used in a Pepe Jeans commercial in England...I used to cry every time it came on. I’m 50 now, and it still gets me. Johnny Marrs guitar cries. I met Johnny a few years back and he said the song almost didn’t happen because of how complicated it was to get that now famous sound out of the guitar...apparently it took weeks to get right, but he said now, a kid could create the sound with an iPhone. Long live the kings
Back in the day when this song was new, it didn't play on the radio continuously but when it did people would stop talking and listen to it. One of those songs that transcends into your soul.
I worked with Morrisseys dad at the Bupa hospital in Whalley Range Manchester. He got Morrissey a job there once and that's when he wrote heaven knows I'm miserable now.
@@KrashyKharma It's actually a tremolo, possibly straight from the Fender amp, with an old-school rockabilly riff. Not wah or phase pedals. Really simple...but with all the 80's stuff layered over it. Timeless.
Leo Fender invented tremolo amps . He's amazing Mar just uses two of them at different speeds .Any guitarist could learn how in an hour to get the same sound
Amazing : to cause great surprise or wonder. I'm neither surprised or in wonder .More accurate is you are amazed by Johnny Marr sound . Me I just needed to find out how he got the sound he gets because I know someone who wants to do a cover of the song when she gigs out and I'm helping her with the effects .Without the lyrics the sound wouldn't have been what makes people like the song so much . Like Journey's Love Hurts . Without the lyrics , the lead break would have little effect on people's emotions ,which is the thing that captures the listen's attention
The Smiths were incredibly popular in Mexico. I partied in Mexico in the 90's and you couldn't go an hour without hearing this song playing in the clubs. This is such a badass hit. Brings back a lot of memories. Cheers.

The 80's ruled ! And this is not a coincidence, all these bands came from the UK....

that ringing guitar note right before he says "You shut your mouth" is pure brilliance. I've never heard the same note struck 4 times that ever sounded so good. The skill level there is first day beginner can play it. But putting that note in that key at that moment was genius.

***** No. I'm saying that calling it ahead of it's time is calling it shite in a way, cuz music now is fucking dreadful and that's why it wouldn't be a compliment. I think it's an excellent song.
Didn't have a privileged childhood, but one thing I was graced with during my childhood was that my parents had me grow up with good music. Born in 1991, and I wouldn't change a damn thing, I got a taste of old music and current music of that day. Not the meaningless, repetitive "messages" they play on the radio to kids today. Keep the old music CURRENT!!! Let children EMBRACE the music of the past. Back when music actually made you FEEL something. Back when music MEANT something!!!!!
A song for all our youths. God that helplessness you feel when you’re desperate to meet someone but too shy to do anything about it. But thankfully a thing of the past.
The best thing about this song was dancing to it in night clubs. I'm not sure most younger people realize that almost all of these alternative songs were great dance songs. Turn down the lights, turn on the strobe if you have one, and just dance to one after another for an hour or more. Yes, by yourself...if someone else is around, they do their thing on the dance floor and you do yours.
@@protovision2010 As a friend of mine pointed out decades ago, punk (hardcore, industrial, etc.) was music meant to dance to...including slam dancing. In the '90s we saw it replaced largely by music to slit your wrists to. LOL

That takes courage to admit that we need love just like everybody does
Johnny Marr created such a unique sound. What a songwriter, and original guitarist.
It's not even in this track, many of the smiths songs had interesting sounds and instruments. Even with his new stuff he implements lots of different things.

"There's a club if you'd like to go,
You could meet somebody who really loves you,
So you go and you stand on your own,
And you leave on your own,
And you go home and you cry and you want to die" - I felt that and related to that so hard, definitely my thought process on a average night out.
💕💕💕
I do better with meeting people when I go out alone. Its almost hard to believe. Girls will sit right next to me at an empty bar. I'll be back at it once covid is done. GL buddy.
That's why I didn't go out nights in my twenties, thirties, and now.
Besides, I'd had enough of people after a typical day...
After you've been kicked in the nuts psychologically by enough people, that "wanting to die" feeling goes away somewhat.

He’s articulating his life. Namely his childhood. He was always an outcast and bullied.

But so relatable..
I remembered being picked last in sports teams in school, but really the glass was half full. Everyone feels sad, its a mood. Sometimes you go to a club, and you find someone who loves Morrissey more than you, you go to bed with him, and you're on your own. But you still have " How Soon Is Now"
Just a hauntingly beautiful, totally relatable piece of music, art and magic.

Nice one!
God, those Johnny Marr's guitar riff are marvellous
Mar wasn't such a good guitarist but he was amazingly creative in the way he took a few amps and effects pedals and used them to get a unique sound that was highly entertaining.
Being a guitarist myself with very limited playing ability I've gotten better response from audiences playing with my band than hard core musicians did playing at the same venue .I made very likable sounds with the guitar that captured people senses.
It not how good the musicians are , it's how well the audience listening , likes it .Kurk Cobain is another example of that . He barely knew how to play guitar . But he was a great entertainer with a very likable sound .
You know...back when I heard this song and those riffs, back in 84, It blew me away and gave me the chills.AMAZING:)
I learnt to play the song in about an hour . And I'm the worst guitarist from canarsie .There are a few different people showing how to play it on TH-cam
@@steveh7682 OK try playing william it was really nothing and see if you think he wasn't that skilled
It's just repetitious practice
.I'm learning How Soon Is Now because someone I know wants to do a cover of the song when she gigs out .

The best thing about this song was dancing to it in night clubs. I'm not sure most younger people realize that almost all of these alternative songs were great dance songs. I was born in 1987 but my dear father was a huge fan of the Smiths and I was raised with their music and Morrissey's. I absolutely love the Smiths. Definitely reminds me of my childhood.😃
I was born in 1973 so just the right age to appreciate The Smiths as soon as they starting banging out the tunes.
Love that riff til the day I die. So haunting and foreboding. Like descending down the rabbit hole of loneliness. Beautiful 😌
Probably one of the most brilliant masterpieces the music ever created
