I am a Trinidadian, the rice dish looks like what we call "pelau" as to your curiosity it is indeed made like a stew with soy sauce or browning (burnt sugar sauce) and the roti is made of dahl (split peas) grains it's called dahlpouri, the 2 fry bread dishes (doubles) are usually served with alot more sauce and is usually served with channa, sweet sauce, shadonbenny, cucumber, chutney and pepper. Alot of topping to choose from 😁

The sour thing you’re tasting is most likely tamarind sauce. I always ask for extra on the side. At my local spot they have this sauce called “peppa sauce” its so good. The doubles looks more "gourmet" than the regular Trini doubles. The barra isn't normally so firm and there is more sauce in the doubles

That's dhalpurie roti. It's filled with boiled and ground split peas and then the roti is rolled and cooked with some oil. Then it's wrapped with curried potatoes and different meats or even shrimps.
I'm happy you like our food 🙂🇹🇹
    I like Korean food 😋
I always hear that Trinifmdad has the best KFC, but I had a spicy and sticky KFC in Busan, South Korea and it was pretty close to ours.

@time machine when East Indians came to Trinidad, they brought their style of food as well as many other cultural influences. The spelling however, of many Hindi words that we use in Trinidad, have changed over time.

Trini food is amazing! They have a fantastic street food scene. I was there in 2017 and in 2018 hosted by Reshmi and her family from Taste of Trini channel. 😋👍 Shared.

  • @dash3199

Oh my goodness. Totally fangirling rn. The doubles usually has chutney which is what’s giving that pickled taste, can also come with an assortment of sauces that can be sweet and/or spicy. The wrap is made of dhal puri roti which has a yellow split peas filling in between the layers and of course the chick peas potato and curry chicken wrapped inside. These are the indo infused Caribbean foods. The ox tail and rice with peas is the west African/creole infusion. So happy!!!!!! Thank you for trying ♥️
