I use the left over bobins when I start my weaving projects or a 2 inch cutting line for my towels .

I use a warping wheel there is no waste and colour placement is really easy to do, and no need to have a tension box

My loom came with a sectional warp beam but I could never find anything that explained it clearly and visually. This series has been extremely helpful, thank you. The weaving “rabbit hole” is where I am right now. So many ideas that I just need to focus on one and get going! Really enjoy these weaving videos.

I have always carefully unwrap each section and it is efficient. This is the first time anyone explained how to get each section off the sectional beam to thread. Thank you so much. I actually have 4 of 13 sections threaded and I am going to see if I can "finagle" all of them off like you did without screwing it up! Off to the loom!

I’m loving Huck Lace, Deflected Double Weave, and overshot at the moment. I have the equipment to do a sectional warp on my mighty wolf loom but haven’t tried it yet. You have inspired me to do more investigation of the technique. Your “waste pieces” from the cones could be used for Punched rugs. I keep all the extra yarn and try to incorporate into my rugs because you often don’t need a big section and it’s easy to change yarns/colors.

When I finish winding yarn on sectional, I unwind about a meter. Then I take 2 leash sticks, put one across back of all dangling yarn and one across front . I clamp them together. I have hooks on the side beams where I then clip/tie these 2 leash sticks on each side (rather than running the bar across leash sticks). That way each 1 inch section of yarn keeps in order and hangs at the level of my heddle eyes and there is enough to put through heddles and front beam. My back beam is removable. I do all my threading and tie in front before inserting my back beam. That way I don't have a couple yards of yarn hanging all over and getting tangled.
If you put your tape on the section where there is an over lap plus a half inch of sticking space you can just tape the section and tape it down at the same time with one piece of tape.
    Love my sectional warp beam.

Great ideas!! Thank you so much!! You know… initially I started threading from the rod and I had forgotten to put the warp ends around the back beam… what a good idea… I could have removed the back beam and replaced it while moving the warp ends to the back. Genius! Thank you so much!

Thank you for these weaving videos. I have a LeClerk Jack loom from the 1970s with a sectional warp beam. It was a very strange thing to START with that as most of the beginner instructions don't go into sectional warping at all.

Oh thank you Megan! YES… the universe also previously sent me a used LeClerc jack loom that was all decked out with a sectional warp beam and all the gear. It’s quite intimidating if you don’t know what it is. In Leclerc’s book “Warp & Weave” there is a brief section on sectional warping with illustrations, but it’s tricky if you’ve never really seen it done. I would just ignore the sectional beam and warp my regular “back to front” method :) haha

Total beginner and maybe I'm missing something but could you not skip the storage bobbins altogether and get the yarn directly off the cone it came on (I'm assuming it comes on comes). Just flip your bobbin holder so that it is horizontal or maybe even use a lazy kate?
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel, your vids, and how meticulously you break down all of this knowledge into delectable bite sized nuggets. I have learned so much from you. Thank You!

Thank you so much!! Yes! You could absolutely use the coned yarn directly! The only trouble is if you are sectional warping, you need as many yarn packages as you have ends per one inch (or two inches, depending on your sectional beam). So if I was using 20 EPI, I would need 20 cones. If it’s 40 EPI, I would need 40 cones. That’s where it gets expensive. So if you can split your cones to storage bobbins, then you don’t need to buy as much yarn 😆

Gotcha! Thank you for explaining that. Seemed like too simple and easy of a solution that some one would have tried already .@@sweetgeorgia

You mentioned 2 issues: time and waste. The Warp Wheel solves both because you wind directly from the cone eliminating the need to use intermediary bobbins which are time consuming to wind and wasteful. It also tensions the warp so a costly tension device is not needed. I have the AVL Warp Wheel admittedly expensive but I didn’t need a tension box or a yard counter which built into the WW. (I have no relationship with AVL Looms.)

I just got a new loom that has a sectional back bar. Do I have to sectionally warp for some tension (or other) reason? Or can I dress front to back if I choose?

How are you getting set up to sley the reed? I guess what I mean to ask is how are you finding your start point? I have an old Mira loom that has a hook in the centre to support the rod that the heddles are threaded on. I thought that might be an easy shortcut to figuring out where to start because I could start in the middle and work out, knowing where my section is that is in the middle and knowing where the middle of the shaft is. I'm still not sure if that's ideal, I was just trying to avoid measuring!

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Oh yes, if you know how many heddles you need on each shaft, you can count them from the centre out towards the right and then you start threading from there. I’ve recently tried splitting my warp in the middle and then threading out in both directions from the centre, but it feels awkward. I think I would be better served if I just took the time to count the heddles on the threading draft and then count the heddles on each shaft 🤣

Im nearly half way though my longest warp so far making clasped weft tea towels. I used a warping mill do mine and there was incredibly small amount of waste

Lovely. Is yours a vertical or horizontal warping mill? Do you make 1” chains and feed them through the box?
