Animated series takes liberties with it and adds some needed interactions. I don't believe the "Sad Man." bit was in the comics or Spawn sadly telling Cyan to go to her mommy. My favorite part was when Spawn saved the girl, and sent her back to his wife, Wanda. It was a happy moment that symbolized the end of a horrifying nightmare for the girl. But also a sad moment for Spawn, symbolizing how he may never have a child of his own with the love of his life.
Anti-Heros are the most compelling, relatable characters ever. Even though they've done some tragic things the past like Spawn, they still have some parts of their humanity that still give them a purpose to fight back against the monsters they face head on and it can save them one day, just like Al saving Cyan from that perverted child-killer.
As Todd Mcfarlane, had mentioned in one of his interviews on the Spawn animated series he said that Keith David, was the perfect choice because of his voice bringing out the Spawn character to life.
Man, 20 years later and the show is as dark as ever. It remains grim and its treatment of political and criminal issues feels way too real. That's what makes it so spooky.
This is by far the greatest adult animated show I've ever seen. Nothing will ever top this. I wish they had continued it. Spawn isn't just a compelling character, his story with its characters is rich across time itself. Definitely my all-time favorite fictional character outside of Marvel and DC.

I'm being 100 percent serious here. When I was like eight or nine, ten at the very oldest, long before I had even heard of the Spawn animated series, which ironically given the fact that I was born in 1990, was airing on TV at right around that time, my father who my mother was separated from, sent me as a gift in the mail about three or four Spawn comics which I became obsessed with and read over and over again. I can't even remember what happened to them or what issues they were, but at the time I was horrified and fascinated at all the uncensored nudity, violence, and swearing which was the complete opposite of the stuff I usually saw on Nickelodeon at the time. For years after growing up I completely forgot I ever owned any Spawn comics but then more recently when I learned about the Spawn animated series from wikipedia, mostly because Keith David, who voiced Goliath from Gargoyles also voiced Spawn, it all came flooding back to me, as though a barrier in my mind had been shattered instantaneously.

azzlhe marohomaru so like she got pregnant and he forced her an abortion. He also almost never spent time with her and left her alone. And also in the comics he camouflages as her new husband and has sex with her.
Nothing paradoxical about it, you can say the same about any average joe holding a gun or joystick for the military - the only difference is that an assassin acknowledges he is getting paid to murder people, and usually far more specifically than anything the military takes part in. The sort of self righteous fools that think they are doing good for their country by going and shooting up and bombing someone elses country are the real whack jobs of the world in my opinion.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn was an animated television series which aired on HBO from 1997 through 1999. It was based on the Spawn comic series from Image Comics, and was nominated for and won an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Animation Program (longer than one hour). An unrelated series titled Spawn: The Animation is in production since 2009, with Keith David reprising his role as the titular character. Like the comic book, the series features graphic violence, sexual scenes, and extensive use of profanity. Todd McFarlane's Spawn was ranked 5th on IGN's list of The Greatest Comic Book Cartoons Of All Time. Game of Thrones has 67 episodes so far over 7 seasons with an 8th on the way yet HBO'S Spawn ONLY GOT seasons 3 with 18 episodes.. Whoever greenlighted the cancellation way back in 1999 should burn and burn HE OR SHE They will BURN
Do you know more about future projects about Spawn? I watched the 1997 live action movie a decade ago and with Spawn's release in MK 11 now I wanna see more of this character
You'd think by now we'd get a Spawn movie during the comic book movie era but it's taking too long, hopefully our patience will be rewarded because Spawn deserves do much respect
I remember my mom buying me this series at a garage sale when I was like 5 years old. I was a big Spawn fan back then and we both thought it was going to be a light hearted cartoon series. When I got home I started watching it with my brother and we both were in awe after seeing all the violence and nudity in the first episode. I’m pretty sure my dad threw the VHS away after that episode.I don’t know what triggered me to TH-cam this but I’m glad I did. This series kicks ass.
Honestly this series was made on hbo so HBOMAX or Syfy is the only place in my opinion were it should be not to mention the same people who made this series should be the only ones doing this exclusively not to mention spawns own comic book writers should be the only ones handling it in my opinion
They need a good studio, a big budget and some TLC. Stay true to the source. These people need to stop trying to feed us their version of an already established character. The Comic book staff knew what they were doing when they produced the product. Don't veer too much. Do that movie companies and you'll have a HIT!!! You have the tech to do these films well. Do it. I'd stick to McFarlands vision!
Same here. I started crying when Spawn said to her "You...you go to your Mommy now. She'll take care of you. You're gonna be alright now." And then Cyan with the silent "Thank you." Damn. I'm crying again just typing this. Beautiful scene. Just beautiful. 😥😢😭😭🥺🥺
"Warriors can feel forces massing against them. The agonizing wait for battle becomes a way of life. Turning and twisting their dark souls, feeding the tense rage that boils deep in every hell spawn; A rage.. at the unfairness of their plight....and a feeling still deeper.....that they earned it" best quote ever
I'm not like most people who have been a fan of Spawn forever. I've only gotten into him and I have to say. I absolutely love everything about him. This cartoon is probably the best I have ever seen. The scenery, the people and the fact there isn't much music is all too good.
I've always loved the interplay between light and shadow depending on who is on screen. And Keith David is amazingly delightful in his voice acting roles. Spawn and Goliath from Gargoyles are top notch.
The fact that despite only meeting Spawn twice and seeing some of his supernatural abilities, the only thing Cyan can say about him is that he's sad drives the scene home for me
I just quit my job at amazon. I’ve finally had enough of their bull crap. I Worked there for a year. Everyone i knew is gone, quit and or fired. Now i gotta rest and look for a new job elsewhere. Thanks for uploading this. Spawn was a good movie, didn’t know there was cartoons. That’s what working at amazon was like, a prison.
This shows how powerful the human mind and soul is. Even in a body straight out of hell he chooses to fight for good. I will never lose hope in humanity!
Been a fan of Spawn since '92. I never had HBO and sadly missed this show. I saw the first few episodes at a friends house a while back, thanks for this Truckin Dad! I am hoping that Spawn makes a come back the next few years with the reboot film!
Yep not to mention the mentally ill are 4-10 × more likely to be attacked. At the same time they are 4-10 less likely to attack someone but all the media says is how they are violent, dangerous and ruin everything for the more fortunate.
@Roy Batty ok got it. On the flip side though do you want to be locked up in Arkham if I hit you in the head and a crooked doc calls you mentally ill? Counterpoints to all points really. I think the answer takes a lot more work then one would first imagine.
World wide human reality never changes. Perhaps society might reduce each year more unwishable social violent events rates but will never disappear 🫥 it.....the fact .....this is not paradise
This series had me in my feels man, Spawn was AWESOME. One of those shows I can watch repeatedly, Spawns story is heartbreaking, exciting - scary at the same time. All the voice actors were tight, David Keith as Spawn was top notch.
Ive said it before but who else thought it was cool when Violator broke the 4th wall and referenced the comic books? “...that wasn’t in the goddamn script!...” Referencing Spawn killing Billy in the comic!
@@wander300 Spawn didn't just kill him, he shredded him into pieces and put his limbs and head on Sam and Twitch desk with a note ending in ".... I made him scream". The comic book took no prisoners.
-CASTRADOMIS- all he got was tossed into a wall and shot in the head?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!! After everything that he did, in a series as dark as this, you’d EXPECT him to get a terrible, slow, painful, dramatic death! Not some quick little cop out like that!
Spawn would’ve let Violator win if he massacred Billy, the whole point of Billy kidnapping Cyan was because Violator wanted to see Spawn absolutely lose it.
I always used to pick up spawn comics from the super market when I was mad young. My mother had NO clue how violent and mature the content in those comics were. If she had known it would have def been banned from my house growing up lol. I remember the comics clued me in to this HBO series and I would stay up SUPER late and always hope I could catch the animated episodes at random. I was waaay too young to be reading and watching Spawn, but I loved how gritty and raw it was. I had NEVER seen an Anti Hero before and I was really sucked into the Idea of spawn when I was just a kid. A Renegade Hell spawn General who turns his back on Satan and his armies and struggles against his dark nature and tries to do good with his Hell powers to make amends for his past. All I knew back then was Superman, Batman and spider man. The Spawn series and comics blew my 10 year old mind!
Are you a comic fan because if you are you should have known about this comic character n your days even as a kid Wasn’t even born In that era and I know about this character
Yea these comics used to be at tenth planet and i remember there would be more spawn comics than anything at that comic store did i watchbit religiously no but i watched and read enough to know
I remember seeing the Spawn movie when I was about 8 years old and remembering how fkn cool it was. My Parents had HBO, and remember watching the animated series for the first time and just being blown away by it.
Batman: I'm the World's Greatest Detective. Spawn: I'm Hell's Greatest Soldier. Batman: I know Kung Fu. Spawn: I'm good with Chains and Bullets. Batman: I have every single Bat vehicle you could name. Spawn. My suit is alive and takes me anywhere. Batman: I'm rich. Spawn: I'm dead. Batman: You win.
Everything about this series was awesome, the script, the voice acting, the violence, the clown/violator.. dark af. I rediscovered this series 10 years ago and been waiting ever since for more, but it’s never gonna happen :/ This is what the actual movie should’ve been like, but Hollywood ruined it.
One of My favorite aspects of this Show is the way they Portray just how Gritty/Dirty this City is. In a lot of these scenes, It's like I can almost smell & feel the Moisture and the Filth of the Alleys. No other Show has done that for Me like Spawn has & I absolutely Love it for that. My Mom and Dad started watching Spawn when She was pregnant with Me. Now here I am, 23 Years Old watching it Myself. I can see now why Her and My Dad Loved it so Much. It's an amazing Series!!
Back in the early 2000s I had to import this series all the way to germany on vhs, because it wasn’t available over here. I showed it my friends and they absolutely loved it. We had Spider-man cartoons but nothing like this! I just finished it here on TH-cam! Almost 20 years later!
I never saw this show when it first aired (I was 5 at the time it debuted and didn't watch a lot of adult animation back then), in fact, I didn't know it actually existed until I discovered it years later. Finally watched the series in 2009 when I bought it on DVD (making it the first HBO series I bought on DVD, followed by The Sopranos) and watched the entire series. It was excellent, and it quickly became one of my favorite animated series of all-time and it was quickly enlisted into my Top 5 animated series of all-time. To me, Spawn truly defines adult animation in North America.
Its even more depressing when you realize hes not only saying goodbye to the child he and his wife could never have but always wanted AND saying goodbye to the only reason he came back to earth and became a Hellspawn in the first place
Aside from the fact that this HBO series of Spawn is a very intense Kick-Ass series, I can't help but to be drawn into all the the characters so easily. Twitch of course with his genius, the homeless alley people that I feel sorry for and so on.
Who remembers hbo back in the late 90s and early 2000s? I was a kid but caught as much as I could and even then I could tell it was good television. Spawn is a great example. Keith David's voice brought some real weight to the titular character. Some real emotion and dark story here.

I was born 1993 and I never seen Spawn animated series only the movie played by Michael Jai White.😁

azzlhe marohomaru so like she got pregnant and he forced her an abortion.

Todd McFarlane the creator of spawn himself
Game of Thrones has 67 episodes so far over 7 seasons with an 8th on the way yet HBO'S Spawn ONLY GOT seasons 3
with 18 episodes..
The way Todd McFarlane created this cartoon series beats every single kind of comic book cartoon series to date, this is absolute genius.
