Apparently the undertale music is done by just one guy. Toby fox(who made the game). It also uses notes outside of the normal scale or something.

You should do Waterfall. It's a really great song with a very different tone that I think you'd find interesting.
I'm a simple man, and I like a good old fashioned Bonetrousle. I'd actually recommend a video by Doce titled "Nyeh Heh Heh! + Bonetrousle(normal version + trailer version)", which mixes the character theme, then the battle theme, then the trailer version that was used only for the trailer. Because otherwise it's a song that's less than a minute long.
Fun fact: the dummy in the game tends to repeat his last words in his sentence 3 times like this, this, this. It’s also reflected in this song where a lot of the last segments in a cord repeat 3 times. Not only does it make the rhythm that much better but it’s just such a cool little detail.

On the topic of covers, don't take it as a recommendation since you still want to do other songs of the game, but fyi there even was a huge orchestral live concert covering most of the game's entire soundtrack for Undertale's 5th anniversary. And yeah, generally it's reeeally popular with many other covers in general.
Also on a sidenote: Undertale's music makes huuuuuge use of leitmotifs and re-occcuring themes that connect certain songs cause it fits story-wise. I think some of songs might fall short when listened to on their own because the many connections between the songs get lost. But really that's the case anyway for every game without having played it when listening to the respective OST regardless of leitmotifs, so I think it's fine to just experience them on their own. For reference, Megalovania is the only song in the entire OST with no re-occuring melody from other themes of the soundtrack, every other has melodies that are used at least twice.
there is two main reasons for megalovania not being like any of the other songs, sans isnt like any of the other characters and megalovania wasnt made for undertale, its a separate song toby made before undertale and keeps using
You should react to a lot of music from Undertale it's just incredibly good. I would recommend 'Hopes and Dreams' and the iconic 'MEGALOVANIA' but there are many more. I also recommend you to play the game which is a unique experience if you don't now much about it and is awarded as one of the best games of all time and is also one of my personal favourites.

if you want something really wild and chaotic I recommend *"BIG SHOT"* from the Undetale spin-off game series, *Deltarune*
it's also got alot of motifs that can be found in the original Undertale OST, this one being one of them, which are thematically significant to the character the track belongs to. But it still stands on it's own as a fun listening experience.
I feel like Toby Fox would take insult of Deltarune being called an "Undertale spin-off game series" which is wrong on "game series" cuz all the chapters are a single game so it is not a game series it's just a game, and the series would be "Undertale series" because that's what Toby called it, and Deltarune being called a spin-off feels very wrong, it isn't a prequel or sequel but an alternative universe but being called spin-off just feels wrong

But I can't think of a better way of labeling it that isn't a total mouthful.
And calling Deltarune a game "series "is alot more likely to draw in ppl who don't know about the game than calling it one single _unfinished_ game.
And the fact is that with its connection to Undertale and Undertale coming out first, Deltarune will always be somewhat viewed as derivative of Undertale. And I don't think that's a good or bad thing, it just is.
you always help me listen to my favorite stuff in a way i never thought i could, i always notice new stuff when you break the song down, so id love to see you breaking down megalovania as well, also the "hopes and dreams" OST is incredibly good!
Hey Tony, been a watcher since you first started to dip your toes into the water with anime/game music. I've always loved music but never had much of an ear. You pausing to go back and really break down parts is what really got me to be more of an active listener, even when passively enjoying music. Never apologize, and keep being passionate about discovery. XKCD Did a great comic on it, but every so often you get to see someone be part of the lucky 10k people each day who experience something beloved for the first time, and your approach at engaging it is just so positive and full wonder. I love it. I'll keep watching, keep putting out great content.
As someone who is a huge anime/video game fan but hearing impaired, I love that he breaks down the songs. It takes me so, so long to understand a song beyond a noise scramble, let alone one with vocals. Vocals normally have to be fairly slow and super distinct for me to even have a chance to comprehend it lol.
Because he breaks the songs down the way he does, I can focus on the parts of the song he's highlighting and going back 5 or 10 a few times to actually hear the notes. I can tell his reactions to Undertale are gonna be awesome since there's so much repetition and layering going on. He's taking shows and games that I love and dialing my personal understanding and appreciation of their music up to 11.
For one of their anniversaries they did a live orchestration of all the songs, it's amazing!
Hopes and Dreams should definitely be the next one, it's truly amazing
There's an artist named RichaadEB who does a bunch of metal covers of songs. He has covered a ton of Undertale songs, including Dummy (his version is called Electric Balboa), and I think you should totally check out his takes on the Undertale themes

Technically the main battle theme from Off called Pepper Steak, is also electro swing. But it's more of a combination of industrial and electro swing, making it rather unique.

Im not sure if anybody told you about this. But the entire undertale soundtrack is done by one person everything from the electronic sounds to the acoustic instruments and composed together. I think there's about a hundred tracks but with alternative versions and remixes would come up to about 50 distinctly different tracks

Also one thing to note with Dummy, it's somewhat used for Ghost Fight and Spider Dance. As Toby Fox didn't use many things for the OST, and recycled parts to help make new themes. So if you listen to enough of the Undertale themes you can start to notice leitmotifs from earlier themes of the game in later ones. And honestly that is fun to notice once you get used to them.
Man these undertale songs are such bangers. Theres several full orchestral renditions of the whole soundtrack that are incredible and it's a really cool listen once you listen to most of the soundtrack.

If you are doing a 'whole' review of Undertale OST, then i can't wait! There's a lot of good melody. My favorite is Spider Dance, i just love the rythm.
Funny to hear you mention microtones early in the song, as he did use microtones in certain songs. As far as i know, this is most prominent in ASGORE.
This style of music generally known as chiptune music :3 due to the chip/bleep sounds it makes.

By the way, if you do wind up doing a bunch of Undertale music in your vids, the creator Toby Fox has been making a game called Deltarune which is like an alternate universe thing and it's got a lot of great songs too, some of which I like even more than the Undertale songs. You should check it out.

Yes. I love the wet kick drums in the background of the latter half of this song.
Another song that is very similar to this one (as in the original melody is literally just jumbled up, but it keeps the same soundfont) is "Now's Your Chance To Be A" from Undertale's "sister game" Deltarune. It's a short, slightly over a minute, but amazing nonetheless.
Of course I would recommend all of Undertale and Deltarune's songs, but gotta do it one at a time, after all. I would actually recommend you play them too. Hearing the songs in the context of the game is just a whole different experience.

one of the coolest parts about all of this stuff is toby fox is entirely self-taught. some of the most iconic video game music of all time, and he never really had a teacher. stuff's WILD.

DUMMY Ghost
Undertale is a really nice game with a good Story and most important : characters. The characters and there music is very unique. You don't have to be some pro gamer to play the game, with I like alot!
Hesangasong has a really good piano arrangement of Ghost Fight and Dummy. (Dummy is basically a remix of Ghost Fight) M. Bulteau has a great arrangement called Spider Swing. It's a mashup of Ghost Fight, Dummy, and Spider Dance, which uses the same leitmotif as them.

If you want more video game jazz, check out the band "YMCK". Their whole shtick is they're a jazz band, but in each album they do it in the style of what a particular game console was capable of (i.e NES, Sega Mega Drive etc).
You should really play the game, Deltarune too. Every single piece of music in it is memorable and very well composed. It's also regarded as one of the greatest games of all time

Dummy, ghost fight and spider dance all have very similar melody, the thing in ur thumbnail is a fight with its ost being ghost fight not dummy but of course as i said they all sound very similar so its understandable u found the wrong image, spider dance is the most popular one among these 👍

If we're talking good game OST's, Shadow Of The Colossus is a goldmine. "A Despair-filled Farewell" is the best in my opinion. "The Opened way" is a close second. You should consider checking those out. Trust me, they're amazing.
Hopes and Dreams would be my recommendation for the next one. Or Attack of the Killer Queen and Big Shot from Deltarune would also be jamming (Deltarune is a kinda sequel/spin-off/alternate universe thing to Undertale and it’s great)
