I know that youre thinking of the leitmotif's as "remixes" but its actually a storytelling device in the music. different characters, locations, and events have motifs associated with them. its "renixed" into other tracks to indicate that the thing the music is playing for is relevant to what the leitmotifs are connected to. its actually quite genius as it works as a sort of musical literary device throughout the games plot, foreshadowing future characters and events, showing a different side to existing characters, and clueing you in to whats going on in the plot.
absolutely true! tbh its also fun to watch someone connect certain songs without knowing how theyre connected... guess i gotta watch the playthrough to see if he catches the motifs when he can see the characters and learns the story lol
undertales excellent use of leitmotifs is maybe my favourite part of the game... theres so much interesting stuff to find once you realise that examining the ost gives you hints to characters, their stories and relationships.

1:11:25 So, fun fact: apart from some of the art (which was done with the help of Temmie Chang), this _entire_ game - the writing, the mechanics, even the music - was created by ONE guy! Toby Fox is such a legend that he's even been brought on to compose for bigger games such as Pokémon!
We often say he did everything but actually temmie Chang made some area and character sprite designs and toby got a bit of help for some of the songs too but yeah toby did like 90% of the whole thing. Sorry I had to be the 🤓 guy but we should give credit to everyone that help create this masterpiece

Shall I be the one to ruin the mood and make y'all aware that TobyFox also made a LOT of music for the most popular webcomic on the Internet "Homestuck"? Its actually the project he did before making Undertale all his own, and one of the characters who shares MeGaLoVania as a theme (Vriska Serket) is from there. The "Megalo Trio" with Dr Andonuts as well.
A testament to how good Toby is composing that someone who has NO context for the game can accurately guess what's happening in each song 80% of the time.

Yeah, I've heard about that reward. I've personally never gotten to dodge all of the kickstarter names. But from what I've seen on other videos, It opens up the mysterious door in the room that appears after the Gyftrot encounter where you can encounter the secret boss "Glyde". Inside is the Annoying Dog's room, with some jokes and the Annoying Dog sleeping in the center of the room.

The fact the entire game was made by like 3 or 5 people, with Toby doing most of the work and it still is this popular, still stands up as a great game years later, and has new people reacting is kinda crazy.

Every single time I watch somebody react to this lovely soundtrack, I am always the most interested in what people say about the vibes of the song. I've listened to this soundtrack maybe thousands of times and I've come to understand what every song means to portray, so the feelings that people get for the first time listening is always fascinating. So many times have people managed to get the exact vibe you're meant to get from the songs! I think that just goes to show how well made this soundtrack is and how much love and care was put into it!

To answer your question, track is named after the game title because (spoilers ahead)
this track is played when you're told the lore of what happened in the Underground before you came down, with all notes perfectly tied together to specific moments in the story. It also takes place in a more nostalgic-type version of the new home you end up in first stages of your journey (except this version is almost at the end of it), which induced feelings of nostalgia.
So yea, it's pretty much the main theme, Basicly it was designed for one purpose: making people cry waterfalls

Why it feels like the game ends with music multiple times is because there are different paths in the game.
Neutral, Pacifist and Genocide.
Each with their own ending and the game encourages you to complete the game in this order after beating each ending.
So that’s why there’s 3 pinnacle boss tracks.
The game doesn't encourage you to do Genocide, it actively fights against you but is aware that players want to leave no stone unturned

Fun fact: The most touhou inspirired track "Battle Against a True Hero" is the personal favorite track of the Touhou seiries' sole developer, ZUN.

When you called out the Scott Pilgrim anime during Hopes and Dreams it was a really on the nose connection because Hopes and Dreams was directly inspired by the band Anamanaguchi which is doing that shows ost.

Toby Fox was actually inspired by Touhou Project, which is quickly apparent in the gameplay for the battling system, referenced in the design for some characters, and even the soundtrack itself. Battle Against a True Hero is probably one of the tracks most inspired by Touhou, with a similar soundfont and instruments used in it. Touhou Project's soundtracks absolutely slap too.
Most of the ost reminds me of “The Neverending Story”. It’s an old movie from when my dad was a kid, but despite me being 18, I still go back to that movie every once in a while. Undertale taps into that part of me so, so well.

You keep calling them "remixes", but there are no remixes on this OST. Each melody represents either a character or a place, and they get combined in ways that tell you what's going on.
If you enjoyed this, I would also recommend the OMORI ost! It also majorly incorporates pianos and violins and I think you would like it!

This might sound weird, but after you finish undertale, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the smash bros version of megalovania after you do. It's an amazing reharmonization and it has little nods to in-game things
