    EPISODE 93
    Okay, we have a lot of BIG news! These developments only really happened yesterday, so this is fresh off the press, and I was up all night finishing this video.
    It seems we might have resolved our issues with the county, but we are going to have to make some big changes - which will be very challenging, exciting, and hopefully positive in the long run!
    Also - Rosie has her own exciting news, Pete tells us what he's doing, Rowan tries to remember what he's doing, and chickens get incarcerated.

    I know some people would have liked to see me fight the county to the bitter end. Just remember that I also have to think about the owners of this property, and my top priority is to avoid bringing undue stress and responsibility onto them. The County's reputation has suffered enough from this ordeal - I have nothing else to prove, and I'd rather get on with my work in peace. Furthermore, I am now convinced that this move (inevitable at some point) is going to be a really great thing for the project and channel in the long run!
    Addressing the other important concern - Don't worry, I think Pancho will be spending some time with us wherever we end up!

Wishing you all the best.

    It really sucks having to move the project and losing access to the workshop so close to the boat, but in the end being in Port Townsend in a shipyard will give you so much better access and time of day to finish everything. Too bad the county is losing such a historic project, but their loss!

      Thats what I figured I think leo would totally be on board if the county said we want to use your project to create some good publicity for the county. And also some good online PR. Because the county is know for its boat building history. So to have a local project of some young lads and gals who restore a sailing yacht in someone's backyard to preserve an old ship and its story. I don't think there could be better PR for that county if they make a video with Leo and show their support online.

      @waynemapp6333 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yes, I agree Port Townsend will be better for the completion of the project.
      I suspect there is a quite bit more to the county dispute than just the one neighbour who has publicly complained. In these situations it is common for several other people to also complain without wishing to be identified.

  • @daveincanada4794
    @daveincanada4794 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    Leo nailed it: the move would have to happen sooner or later, so by moving sooner he can remove a distraction that has dogged this project. The move will become yet another interesting chapter in this story. The rebuilding of Tally Ho has been a great tonic in an otherwise soul-withering year. When Tally Ho finally launches, I'd love to be there in person! What a party that would be!

    Leo is, by any reasonable definition of the term, a master boatbuilder. That doesn't mean "best boatbuilder ever", it means - well - this. One of the important responsibilities of any master craftsman is to turn out apprentices. So it's wonderful to see Rosie move on and progress her career. It's what ought to be happening.

    Well what have we learned in from this instalment? That in a country full of lawyers, a resolution to the County situation would emerge by engaging a good one?...Nope. That Rosie is talented and motivated enough to be given a shipwrights job?...not really, we could all see that. That the planking was a tour de force? nah that's been obvious for weeks. No, what we have learned is, cordless planers are a really good idea.

    It is mind boggling that a County is forcing a move of one of the most incredible restorations on one of the most beautiful ships in the World. This vessel will be going on to international fame, and this County's contribution was to kick it out of the County!! Here in BC Canada, towns and cities will go to great lengths to attract people, the largest fishing rod, the largest tree, and here this County has one of the most incredible Gems on this planet and they are saying go!!. How about instead the Country invest in barrier between them and the neighbor who is complaining, or offer him gift card for few days hotel in town a month in compensation. How about instead of trying to end this project they shout from the top of the highest hill about this incredible journey of restoration.

      Simple. Loud people get the most attention (as the saying goes "yell loud enough, someone will come see what it's all about"). It just so happens that this time around, it aligned with the corrupt local government who, when they saw that there's potential to steal more money from the people, as all politicians and people in power do these days, instantly jumped on the opportunity. Frankly, i've seen this happen one time too many. It's a shame, that around the world, we've come to be ruled around by individuals who took office, not because of their achievements, or by the recognition of others, rather, because they were the smarter thief, cleverer wolf, in dog's skin, around the sheep.

    Fantastic outcome Leo. I knew that the right approach to resolve this issue. I'm glad the public support helped influenced the county. I'm happy for Rosie's advancement to a paid job in Port Townsend. You maybe interested to know in the e-mail that I sent to county one of things I stressed was the benefit that this project had in helping develop the skills of volunteer interns like Rosie. To me, Rosie's development with the TALLY HO project is evidence that this project has provided a unique opportunity in the marine industry sector of Washington state that would not be readily available elsewhere. I stressed that it is the type of entrepreneurial project that builds industries in regions that face major challenges in attracting new investment and new businesses and the county should be doing everything in its power to support new business start ups. It's disappointing to know that you will have to move TALLY HO to Port Townsend Boat Yard before completing all the work. That would have been a better option and I would encourage the county to rethink the time-line of when the move has to take place. Giving Leo and his team to complete almost everything at the present location will be a major advantage and one has to remember that the amount of dust and noise will drop considerably after the upper deck is installed and the interior work begins. In my view it will be a bigger feather in the county's cap to see TALLY Ho leave the county when it is finished except for things like the construction and installation of the mast and the rigging, which will have to be done in the Port Townsend Boat Yard, as well as the final treatment of the exterior of the hull. One last word: good luck with your career Rosie. It's nice to have met you.

    With over 35 years of woodworking under my belt I first followed this project at the second or third video posted here. I actually thought it would be interesting to see what this kid from England knew about being a shipwright. To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting much. How pleasantly surprised I was to see not only that he was very knowledgeable and bright, but how centered he was in his mind (with a zen like quality) as he approached and move forward with this project. Now that the planking is almost done I'm sure that Leo has been thinking about the interior. I would also hope that he would draw upon my 25 years as an interior specialist. From complex light weight cabinetry to upholstery, my knowledge and experience is always there if he needs it.
    Leo,
    I wish I could say with confidence that this old son of the Chesapeake Bay would be able to meet you and shake your hand one day, but unfortunately I doubt it will happen. I won't say the "N" word because you just never know (oops, I went and said it anyways, knock wood). If you ever need some advice on the interior OR if you find yourself at the mouth of the Patuxent River one day, look me up. You have friends here.
    Yours,
    William "Kidd" Mesmer
