Very helpful video, I am just facing this one issue, I am able to view the video on my laptop but I am not able to save the video on my laptop. I get a notification saying ' Recorded video will be saved on the memory card'. I need it to be saved on my laptop. What changes are needed? This has happened on both, MacBook and Windows.
It wasn't working for me at first, I thought you were trying to trick us, but it turns out that you cannot have "connect w/ camera via access point" turned on in the settings on the Imaging Edge Mobile app. Thanks for filming it each step of the way!!

I've been tapping my iPhone screen like a mad man since I installed this app, no luck I'm afraid. It's ridiculous that you can't choose a focus point via the smartphone screen. This is a BIG minus to this application.
Phillip Skraba OK, thank you Phil. I thought i was losing my mind. Leave it to Sony to create an app that leaves out maybe the most important feature. I may be wrong, but i think that the Play Memories App had that capability. So they create a new app, which is supposed to take the place of the old one, only leave out the most important feature. I hVe the A7iii and i have been trying this for a while but even with the camera on Auto and AF and face detection on, it will not focus. i have to manually focus in. a certain spot and put my face there which only works for about 1/100 photos if i’m in the exact right angle. how did you get it to automatically refocus when you moved in the video please? Please i hope you see this i have been trying for so long
Really? It should work. Sometimes I have problems with connecting, I try it a few times, go in and out, and it connects. Yes, I really hope Sony updates this app more often and makes it more reliable.
It show all the photos you've taken whilst using the app, I haven't tested it using older photos taken without the app. I'll try it out when I get a minute.
Good Video - do you know if you want two screens - can you connect the A7iii via usb to your Mac - and at the same time us the wifi to connect to your iPad?
NOTE: This will disable Face Detect AF. In order to connect to the phone you have to turn on «ctrl w smartphone», and that disables Face detection. Aurofocus will still work, but not as good as it does with Face detection
Ohhh so is there a way to take a self-portrait focused with this app. I'm trying to practice at home but when I use the app, it doesn't focus on my face/eye! Do you know any other way I can focus my self? Thank you so much, sir!
Hi, I can't find this feature on the A6500, which is the baby version of the A7iii. I can only use Imaging Edge for monitoring pictures, but i can film using Imaging Edge on my laptop only, which makes no sense. Any idea ?
I have the sony a5000, and I can use smart remote for photos, but I’m not sure how to film videos using it? Whenever I press the record button for videos on my camera it just doesn’t work whilst connected to smart remote.
Hi, one little thing. Am I completely dumb or the app can set everything but focus, so you need to actually first focus with the actual shutter button and then leave it as it is? Thanks for any help.
That's correct, it's blurry until you press the shutter button and it takes a photo, then it focuses depending on the focus mode you have set on the camera. In Video it will focus automatically if you have it set that way on the camera. No problem, happy to help!
how about focus accuracy? It will help to check is everything is in focus and sharp when connected to laptop or pad because of the larger display? For example in situations when it is necessary to take interview, to be in frame together with other person and at the same time check basic things on bigger screen. I'm planning to shoot in manual focus anyway.
Manual focus for an interview setting is pretty hardcore, but if you're up for it sure. If you watch my last film on tethering, you'll see you can connect the camera to your laptop so you can use a really, really big screen to keep an eye on focus.
Great video but how do you delete already imported files from the imaging edge mobile app? The app says I dont have enough space to complete transfers.

Is there a reason why my mobile interface has less options than yours? I am running A7 and all I have are rotate, ev, shot and timer. Shutter, ISO, AWB are all gone.
I had the same issue with a couple of my cameras. Solution? Update the Smart Remote Control App of the camera (playmemoriescameraapps.com). After that, you will have all the controls available 👍
It uses the wifi connection between your camera and phone, so sure you can be on the beach, no problem at all, no need for an external wifi connection.
It drives me crazy when the image isn't mirrored. If you go into the settings on the app, at the very bottom you have the option to mirror the image. I hope that helps!

So when you open the app on your phone, make sure your camera is set to video mode, tap settings on your phone screen, scroll all the way down to the bottom and it has to be there. Hi Shawn, it sometimes is a bit funny and frustrating to use, but it should work. Sometimes I have had to delete and reinstall it, as Sony really hasn't done the best job of keeping this app up to date. Let me know how it's going for you. I'll make a film about the desktop app too, it's a really helpful tool!
I'm afraid not, no. You can however connect it via usb-c to the laptop, I did a film on that recently. That should more or less get rid of the lag issue depending on the laptop you have.
Yes, they both have a lot of bugs that Sony could work on making a little more stable. I use this app to film myself and to take photos of myself when no one else is around to help me with testing gear. Most of the time it works, it's a little slow and there are quite a few functions such as touch to focus and playback that are missing. Let's hope Sony will continue to work on these issues.
@@PhillipSkraba no touch af? Sad but fortunately I think with face detection works 99% fine than others brand and you can put the product in front and automatically focus on it, right? Seems to help either.
Hi Shiv, sure you can. You have to manually turn the dial to video on your camera, and it should then allow you to see yourself, at least that's how mine works with my A7III.

Hi Lazar, sure, both those cameras are compatible with the app. Sony is very slow in updating this app, probably because it's free, however most of the options should work on both those cameras. Yes, there is a desktop app that works with a usb connection, I will make a film on that shortly, keep an eye out.
Phillip, can you elaborate on the location services? More often than not my iPhone and camera don't find each other. The app keeps searching the camera even though they are just one feet apart and were connected a few minutes before. Its driving me crazy since I usually notice it after a bunch of photos were taken. Adding insult to injury, "reseting" and starting again also too often does not work.
Eduardo, I have to tell you, I've had this problem a few times too. It connects, disconnects, it's not a 100% stable. It's very convenient, it just isn't stable as each phone is different, each has a different processor, and memory etc. That's why I prefer usin a dedicated monitor when I film, however, when I don't have one on hand, this setup usually comes in handy.
Can app let you tap a subject to Focus on the special subject ,or move to another subject to focus on during the video recording? It look like I cannot see where is the cameras focus on.

Hey thanks for the video, I’ve been having trouble with this process. It seems the camera is acting as the wifi / router. I already have a router and wifi so I don’t know if there’s any interference going on or not but it’s a little frustrating.
Hi! It's not a little frustrating, it basically is the cause of 99% of broken Sony preview screens. So you need to try to connect, and then connect, and keep doing that until it does. Ignore any routers. It's just you, your phone and your camera. Hide all hammers. On your camera press connect, on your phone press connect, and it should connect after 7,102 times. You'll get there. Once it connects the first time, the next time it only takes 17 times, so patience is key.
Thank You Emma, I'm afraid you can't actually switch between those modes in the app, odd, I know. You can have to manually switch between them on the camera for that to change on the app.

I'm using the iPhone 8+. This app is not easy to use, that's for sure. Apparently the NFC chip is in the tip of the iPhone, but connecting it to the camera by NFC is like pulling teeth. I just connect via the code scan.
Hey Phill, great tutorial and it seems to have worked in the past, but apparently, after apple released IOS 13 it stopped working because sony has yet to update their app. Is there any other apps out there that work in the same way?
@@PhillipSkraba yea sadly it doesn't work because Sony interface changed for the new cameras - But it would work on android with a usb type C to C + it will have to be paid version -20$ ) to work with sony a7iii
Well, when it is on continuous, it changes from a button to a slider, and if you slide it, it should then start firing off shots until you slide it back.

no, not really call, one of the most important thing is missing: FOCUS CONTROL with the app, what is Sony thinking of? if you hesitate between canon and sony, as camera are closer and closer, that kind of option may lead to Canon...
I don't think this would make me lean towards Canon, I use it very rarely, but when I do it does the job, focus, yes, shame that's no included. It was once...
I'm afraid they are too large, so you can only see what you're filming, not copy what you've filmed. The only way to do it fill the screen with the image and record your screen.
I can’t get mine to connect at all. I’ve tried this app and another app. Neither of them will work. My camera says the function is disabled even though it’s turned on.
Hi Phillip, good video. I'm having some problems with my Imaging Edge app and a7riii right now, as in M mode, all my shutter, aperture, iso options are grayed out, and AF is not working when I take pictures. Have you seen this issue before and any suggestions?

I have a7ii which is supported but their isn't a control with smartphone function on the camera none of my raw files will transfer to my phone says it's 1080p as resolution even tho they are 24megapixel raw stills I don't have this problem with my 50.6 megapixel Canon 5ds I can transfer and view those raw photos in all their detaill on my phone im about to return the a7ii too it's been nothing but a headache anyone have any advice on how I can transfer my raw photos to my phone this shouldn't be this hard I take as card out put in phone transfer down that's all it takes on my Canon why not on the Sony?!?!??
Hi Taylor, I agree with you, even with the a7iii, this app is very frustrating. I see Sony did an update 2 weeks ago, it should work better and have a few more options, but I'm afraid Sony is very slow at getting updates out for this app and it still has a lot of bugs, as well as the connection being very bad most of the time. I usually just go oldschool, download the photos to my laptop, output quickly via Lightroom and send those to my email or airdrop them. I only use this app as a backup monitor for my Sony, otherwise I feel like I want to rip all my hair out.
Well, not in the app, no. I adjust all of that in my camera, actually I set that all up the day I bought it and have never changed it, apart from as tweak here and there. What is the reason you would need access to those functions on the app? Serious question - *not being rude.
Phillip Skraba I saw a person doing that on TH-cam via “tethering”. Just because I get all kinds of colors depending on time of day (o have natural light sitting near my green screen and always get orange cast in my face, so I need to bring saturation way down)
I believe that both Apple and Android work with this option, yes. I don't own an Android phone, but I see Imaging Edge Mobile is available for download, so should work!

Looks like no zoom control. I want to buy the RX10M4 but can't find anything that will give a remote zoom function anywhere. Old cameras had remotes that worked but no screen.
No zoom control I'm afraid! I'm sure they could add zoom control and touch focus, as with these two options added this app would be awesome. Lets hope they will keep updating the app!
Sure, if the app is available for download, which they usually are, then it should work no problem. If it's an iPhone only app, then there is always a fullscreen button on the bottom left of the screen to enlarge the app to iPad size. I'll try it out on my iPad when I get home, if you beat me to it, let me know if you managed to get it to work.

I also have a Neewest monitor on my 73. I am wanting to start a TH-cam channel; so I guess it is/ will be nice to start and stop video without getting out of my chair every time. Lol. Well, from experience I can tell you that I personally don't recommend using a monitor for TH-cam, I have a few of them, and I use the Camiror, it doesn't distract me, I see if the camera is recording, I see the frame but I'm not constantly looking at the monitor and I have use of face detection. If however you're filming a film, sure, a monitor comes in super handy. As for the remote, I use one, I love it and without it I'd go mad, so I can really recommend it, my model is the Sony RMT-DSLR2, it's fantastic, works really well and has a ton of options I sometimes use. Good luck with the channel, key is consistency and quality content. I recently lack consistency and I already see a serious drop in my channel.
I don't see why not. I use it for long exposures so not to touch the camera, I believe if you set it to bulb there shouldn't be any problem. I can check that out later.

Dear Victoria, looking at supported devices it seems the A7i is supported, so it should work. I'm pretty sure the setup should be similar to the a7iii support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/imagingedge/en/devices/#emount
There should be an option in the menu to turn on control with smartphone, I don't have the a6000 so I'm just going on what option I have in my camera, but I'm guessing it's pretty similar. Your camera is on the compatibility list, so in theory it should connect and work.

Hi Julia, I'm afraid the a7ii has less options on this app than the a7iii, this is possibly why you can't access everything I can. You do have one big plus though, touch AF, which for some crazy reason isn't available on the a7iii. Do you want to connect to the computer for the desktop app? It's possible you need to change the usb connection setting on the camera depending on what you want to do. Mass storage for reading the memory card, pc remote for controlling the camera, auto usually doesn't work that well.

@@JuliaLauber I understand, well, in your shoes I would look for a used a7iii, it's a fantastic camera and I think you'd be able to find in good condition used for just the body in more or less that price range now. When I shoot self portraits I usually have AF set on face detection and my settings are the same, so the only thing I'm ever worried about is AF.
Hi, very helpfull video. I just have one problem. I have a6000. when I connect it to a smartphone and switch to video mode, the camera displays info "unavailable in this shooting mode. switch to another mode". Any ideas why is that and how to fix it?
I'm afraid video mode isn't available on every Sony camera Bartek, check out the compatibility chart to see if the a6000 supports video through the app. The app generally has a lot of problems which I hope Sony will update soon. Stay safe out there!

I have a question though - I was able to connect the app and use the remote shutter, and everything looks the same except for some reason, even on Manual mode I can't change any thing on the app (shutter, ISO, aperture, white balance) like it seems everyone else can! I have the Sony a7ii if that makes a difference. I tried googling but I can't find any solutions :(
That is an odd problem. Have you tried the classic, uninstall - reinstall solution? When you try aperture or shutter priority can you change any of the settings?

I'm afraid I don't own the handgrip, it seemed way too expensive for me to add to my kit at this moment in time. I didn't realise you had to go through the app, if that is the case then you might be ready for a fight as the app can be a real pain in the ass. @@PhillipSkraba I just switched from Canon and I love how EOS R screenwork and Canon App was just like you have your camera in your hand...all function work from your phone..I just try to do self portrait today to learn my new A7r4 and all my pictures are blurry due to camera focus.. Sony System is way better in many ways but two things is lagging and its better remove app and menu set up..
@@keyun211 The menu setup I love now!! It's real complicated, but once you get it you'll love it! I have to make a film about my settings. The app, yea, it lags like hell, I wish they did a better job with it. I've never had problems with blurry images though, the A7RIV is giving you blurry images?? Only through the app though right??
I believe playback of videos will only work if you install the Move Edit add-on. Then you can playback videos and even edit them into a short film on the go! I'll make a video about it!

Dear Phillip, I Got My New Sony A7R IV This Monday Just Gone, Imaging Edge Mobile Installed On My Galaxy S10+, I Wish Sony Would Do Like The Samsung Is Have A Switch In The App Which Says NFC Which Is So Simple, Anyway Sony Camera Works With The Phone, Will Have To Test It Under Conditions To See If The Signal Fails, If It Works It Will Be A Good Way To Have A Lightweight Monitor & Storage. Hi Lee! That's a mighty good camera you got there! You can wirelessly tether that to a laptop, which is awesome! I do not have the patience to connect via NFC, so I don't use it as it causes me to have Tourettes. It is fantastic when it works, but when it doesn't, well, I'd love Sony to do some more work on this app!

I'm afraid not, it should be an option, however Sony hasn't added it. I hope a future update will add touch focus.

It's not that big a deal, I learn to live with it, recently I just bought a mirror, it's simple and requires no batteries.

Sure, you could do, it sometimes dropped signal, but most of the time it's quite well behaved.

Yes, that's correct Wasim. I use a monitor quite often with my Sony cameras and I'm used to that unfortunate side effect.

Hi, I can't find this feature on the A6500, which is the baby version of the A7iii. I can only use Imaging Edge for monitoring pictures, but i can film using Imaging Edge on my laptop only, which makes no sense. Any idea ?
I have the sony a5000, and I can use smart remote for photos, but I’m not sure how to film videos using it? Whenever I press the record button for videos on my camera it just doesn’t work whilst connected to smart remote.
Hi, one little thing. Am I completely dumb or the app can set everything but focus, so you need to actually first focus with the actual shutter button and then leave it as it is? Thanks for any help.
That's correct, it's blurry until you press the shutter button and it takes a photo, then it focuses depending on the focus mode you have set on the camera. In Video it will focus automatically if you have it set that way on the camera. No problem, happy to help!
how about focus accuracy? It will help to check is everything is in focus and sharp when connected to laptop or pad because of the larger display? For example in situations when it is necessary to take interview, to be in frame together with other person and at the same time check basic things on bigger screen. I'm planning to shoot in manual focus anyway.
Manual focus for an interview setting is pretty hardcore, but if you're up for it sure. If you watch my last film on tethering, you'll see you can connect the camera to your laptop so you can use a really, really big screen to keep an eye on focus.
Great video but how do you delete already imported files from the imaging edge mobile app? The app says I dont have enough space to complete transfers.

Is there a reason why my mobile interface has less options than yours? I am running A7 and all I have are rotate, ev, shot and timer. Shutter, ISO, AWB are all gone.

I had the same issue with a couple of my cameras. Solution? Update the Smart Remote Control App of the camera (playmemoriescameraapps.com). After that, you will have all the controls available 👍

It uses the wifi connection between your camera and phone, so sure you can be on the beach, no problem at all, no need for an external wifi connection.
is there a way you could flip the mirroring screen of the footage? I don't like have it mirrored... looks weird to me
It drives me crazy when the image isn't mirrored. If you go into the settings on the app, at the very bottom you have the option to mirror the image. I hope that helps!

So when you open the app on your phone, make sure your camera is set to video mode, tap settings on your phone screen, scroll all the way down to the bottom and it has to be there. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version. If this doesn't work, I'll send you a screenshot tomorrow 🔥

Hi Shawn, it sometimes is a bit funny and frustrating to use, but it should work. Sometimes I have had to delete and reinstall it, as Sony really hasn't done the best job of keeping this app up to date. Let me know how it's going for you. I'll make a film about the desktop app too, it's a really helpful tool!

I'm afraid not, no. You can however connect it via usb-c to the laptop, I did a film on that recently. That should more or less get rid of the lag issue depending on the laptop you have.

Yes, they both have a lot of bugs that Sony could work on making a little more stable. I use this app to film myself and to take photos of myself when no one else is around to help me with testing gear. Most of the time it works, it's a little slow and there are quite a few functions such as touch to focus and playback that are missing. Let's hope Sony will continue to work on these issues.
@@PhillipSkraba no touch af? Sad but fortunately I think with face detection works 99% fine than others brand and you can put the product in front and automatically focus on it, right? Seems to help either.

Hi Shiv, sure you can. You have to manually turn the dial to video on your camera, and it should then allow you to see yourself, at least that's how mine works with my A7III.

Yes, it's okay for video, frustrating at times, but it does the job. No, I'm afraid you can't adjust focus from the app. It's best to leave it on AFC

Hi Lazar, sure, both those cameras are compatible with the app. Sony is very slow in updating this app, probably because it's free, however most of the options should work on both those cameras. Yes, there is a desktop app that works with a usb connection, I will make a film on that shortly, keep an eye out.

Phillip, can you elaborate on the location services? More often than not my iPhone and camera don't find each other. The app keeps searching the camera even though they are just one feet apart and were connected a few minutes before. Its driving me crazy since I usually notice it after a bunch of photos were taken. Adding insult to injury, "reseting" and starting again also too often does not work.
Eduardo, I have to tell you, I've had this problem a few times too. It connects, disconnects, it's not a 100% stable. It's very convenient, it just isn't stable as each phone is different, each has a different processor, and memory etc. That's why I prefer usin a dedicated monitor when I film, however, when I don't have one on hand, this setup usually comes in handy.
Does it save movie and photo into sd or just in the smartphone?
It will save to you SD card, you can however download photos to your smartphone via the app.

Can app let you tap a subject to Focus on the special subject ,or move to another subject to focus on during the video recording? It look like I cannot see where is the cameras focus on.
Apparently the latest update does let you do that, yes. I haven't tested it out though.

I do it in camera, the app isn't the best when it comes to focus. No tap to focus on the A7III.

I’ve been having trouble with this process. It seems the camera is acting as the wifi / router. I already have a router and wifi so I don’t know if there’s any interference going on or not but it’s a little frustrating.
Hi! It's not a little frustrating, it basically is the cause of 99% of broken Sony preview screens. So you need to try to connect, and then connect, and keep doing that until it does. Ignore any routers. It's just you, your phone and your camera. Hide all hammers. On your camera press connect, on your phone press connect, and it should connect after 7,102 times. You'll get there. Once it connects the first time, the next time it only takes 17 times, so patience is key.
great video, but you didnt show how to switch from photo mode to video mode in the app? cant find it...
Thank You Emma, I'm afraid you can't actually switch between those modes in the app, odd, I know. You can have to manually switch between them on the camera for that to change on the app.

This can be done anywhere, it uses the wifi direct connection between your smartphone and the camera, so you're good anywhere!

I'm using the iPhone 8+. This app is not easy to use, that's for sure. Apparently the NFC chip is in the tip of the iPhone, but connecting it to the camera by NFC is like pulling teeth. I just connect via the code scan.

Really? I had mine working the other day. It can be a pain, and a tad frustrating, but it'll work in the end.

Shutter and Camrote are good, Monitor + is cool but like you stated won’t work with the A7III, hopefully they’ll drop an update for that.

It only works in single shooting setting . I can change it to continuous shooting but than it won t take a photo . What dod I do wrong ?
Well, when it is on continuous, it changes from a button to a slider, and if you slide it, it should then start firing off shots until you slide it back.

I'm afraid they are too large, so you can only see what you're filming, not copy what you've filmed. The only way to do it fill the screen with the image and record your screen.

Hi Phillip, good video. I'm having some problems with my Imaging Edge app and a7riii right now, as in M mode, all my shutter, aperture, iso options are grayed out, and AF is not working when I take pictures. Have you seen this issue before and any suggestions?

I have a7ii which is supported but their isn't a control with smartphone function on the camera none of my raw files will transfer to my phone says it's 1080p as resolution even tho they are 24megapixel raw stills I don't have this problem with my 50.6 megapixel Canon 5ds I can transfer and view those raw photos in all their detaill on my phone im about to return the a7ii too it's been nothing but a headache anyone have any advice on how I can transfer my raw photos to my phone this shouldn't be this hard I take as card out put in phone transfer down that's all it takes on my Canon why not on the Sony?!?!??
Hi Taylor, I agree with you, even with the a7iii, this app is very frustrating. I see Sony did an update 2 weeks ago, it should work better and have a few more options, but I'm afraid Sony is very slow at getting updates out for this app and it still has a lot of bugs, as well as the connection being very bad most of the time. I usually just go oldschool, download the photos to my laptop, output quickly via Lightroom and send those to my email or airdrop them. I only use this app as a backup monitor for my Sony, otherwise I feel like I want to rip all my hair out.

It saves it on the camera, but you can transfer it to the phone.

No, I don't have that problem with my A73 series cameras, connecting it to a hdmi port disables face detection though. Thank You!

Well, not in the app, no. I adjust all of that in my camera, actually I set that all up the day I bought it and have never changed it, apart from as tweak here and there. What is the reason you would need access to those functions on the app? Serious question - *not being rude.
Phillip Skraba I saw a person doing that on TH-cam via “tethering”. Just because I get all kinds of colors depending on time of day (o have natural light sitting near my green screen and always get orange cast in my face, so I need to bring saturation way down)

I believe that both Apple and Android work with this option, yes. I don't own an Android phone, but I see Imaging Edge Mobile is available for download, so should work!

Looks like no zoom control. I want to buy the RX10M4 but can't find anything that will give a remote zoom function anywhere. Old cameras had remotes that worked but no screen.
No zoom control I'm afraid! I'm sure they could add zoom control and touch focus, as with these two options added this app would be awesome. Lets hope they will keep updating the app!
There is zoom control with zoom powered lenses at least in my a6000

It's very annoying you can't touch focus, maybe one day in an update.
FYI. in the a7ii the touch focus in smartphone is working fine, I don't know why it wont work on a7iii.

Sure, if the app is available for download, which they usually are, then it should work no problem. If it's an iPhone only app, then there is always a fullscreen button on the bottom left of the screen to enlarge the app to iPad size. I'll try it out on my iPad when I get home, if you beat me to it, let me know if you managed to get it to work.

Well, from experience I can tell you that I personally don't recommend using a monitor for TH-cam, I have a few of them, and I use the Camiror, it doesn't distract me, I see if the camera is recording, I see the frame but I'm not constantly looking at the monitor and I have use of face detection. If however you're filming a film, sure, a monitor comes in super handy. As for the remote, I use one, I love it and without it I'd go mad, so I can really recommend it, my model is the Sony RMT-DSLR2, it's fantastic, works really well and has a ton of options I sometimes use. Good luck with the channel, key is consistency and quality content. I recently lack consistency and I already see a serious drop in my channel.

I don't see why not. I use it for long exposures so not to touch the camera, I believe if you set it to bulb there shouldn't be any problem. I can check that out later.

I have the same problem sometimes. You're better off just using a usb sd adapter to transfer, much quicker and no doubt safer!

There should be an option in the menu to turn on control with smartphone, I don't have the a6000 so I'm just going on what option I have in my camera, but I'm guessing it's pretty similar. Your camera is on the compatibility list, so in theory it should connect and work.

Hi Julia, I'm afraid the a7ii has less options on this app than the a7iii, this is possibly why you can't access everything I can. You do have one big plus though, touch AF, which for some crazy reason isn't available on the a7iii. Do you want to connect to the computer for the desktop app? It's possible you need to change the usb connection setting on the camera depending on what you want to do. Mass storage for reading the memory card, pc remote for controlling the camera, auto usually doesn't work that well.

@@JuliaLauber I understand, well, in your shoes I would look for a used a7iii, it's a fantastic camera and I think you'd be able to find in good condition used for just the body in more or less that price range now. When I shoot self portraits I usually have AF set on face detection and my settings are the same, so the only thing I'm ever worried about is AF.
Hi, very helpfull video. I just have one problem. I have a6000. when I connect it to a smartphone and switch to video mode, the camera displays info "unavailable in this shooting mode. switch to another mode". Any ideas why is that and how to fix it?
I'm afraid video mode isn't available on every Sony camera Bartek, check out the compatibility chart to see if the a6000 supports video through the app. The app generally has a lot of problems which I hope Sony will update soon. Stay safe out there!

I have a question though - I was able to connect the app and use the remote shutter, and everything looks the same except for some reason, even on Manual mode I can't change any thing on the app (shutter, ISO, aperture, white balance) like it seems everyone else can! I have the Sony a7ii if that makes a difference. I tried googling but I can't find any solutions :(
That is an odd problem. Have you tried the classic, uninstall - reinstall solution? When you try aperture or shutter priority can you change any of the settings?

I'm afraid I don't own the handgrip, it seemed way too expensive for me to add to my kit at this moment in time. I didn't realise you had to go through the app, if that is the case then you might be ready for a fight as the app can be a real pain in the ass. @@keyun211 It's so annoying, I know! I wish they added such a simple feature. I use it as a monitor sometimes when I'm out and about and need to see what I'm filming, for that it's great. If it could touch focus, they it would be fantastic!
@@PhillipSkraba I just switched from Canon and I love how EOS R screenwork and Canon App was just like you have your camera in your hand...all function work from your phone..I just try to do self portrait today to learn my new A7r4 and all my pictures are blurry due to camera focus.. Sony System is way better in many ways but two things is lagging and its better remove app and menu set up..
@@keyun211 The menu setup I love now!! It's real complicated, but once you get it you'll love it! I have to make a film about my settings. The app, yea, it lags like hell, I wish they did a better job with it. I've never had problems with blurry images though, the A7RIV is giving you blurry images?? Only through the app though right??
Can you use the phone has remote shutter for bulb shooting?
I believe it works for bulb and burst, you have a slider instead of a button in that case 🌟

Image edge works flawlessly on my s9+ with A7sii, it's kinda laggy sometime but totally useable, I like this app a lot
John W I just wish they added touch to focus, apart from that it does a fairly good job.

Hey Phil, do you know how to see video playback on on the app? I can see photos but it says ACVHD not available.
I believe playback of videos will only work if you install the Move Edit add-on. Then you can playback videos and even edit them into a short film on the go! I'll make a video about it!

Hey I currently have the s10plus when I use the Sony image app to download pictures from the a7iii the images comes out horrible when I use the s7plus and the sony image app the pictures resolution is beautiful can you please help?
The images will only download at a certain resolution, it's better to copy them to your computer and then send them to your phone.

Hi Lee! That's a mighty good camera you got there! You can wirelessly tether that to a laptop, which is awesome! I do not have the patience to connect via NFC, so I don't use it as it causes me to have Tourettes. It is fantastic when it works, but when it doesn't, well, I'd love Sony to do some more work on this app!
