Your channel deserves so much more traffic! I love browsing your website I didnt even know you had youtube channel! I love that your focus is medicinal plants, which is really what I like growing (datura, tobacco etc) not just food. Next year I am going to be growing Ma-huang and yarrow so I am happy to hear your tips on that! I am also trying some Wild Lettuce this season as well (watched your video on that also). Keep up the great work! Cant wait to see more medicinal plant videos.
I love my yarrow, got a multitude of colors. But above all the ability to stop blood is amazing. Was removing a pane of glass that had broken and a shard fell and hit my interior wrist, it was fairly deep and was bleeding really good. I immediately grabbed a large handful of yarrow, crushed it and applied to the wound then went and bandaged it. After a few minutes, I opened the bandaging and it had stopped bleeding. I have used it on numerous people since and have told my whole community they are welcome in the garden and the benefit of the yarrow.
I like that you mention the seed library being the less monetary version of a seed stock selection. Unfortunately a lot of the destruction on this planet is enabled by big corporations using money as an incentive to others to support them and their work to pillage and rape the land for it's resources to ultimately create more profit for themselves. I wanted to thank you for your plant walkthroughs and your energy. It's really therapeutic and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate what you do.
Fantastic video and the ma huang seeds I purchased 12 years ago have been great to see grow all these years. Now I have more knowledge on proper care for these nice plants.
I'm so inspired by your work. Thank you for the garden tours and videos. Isn't this an example of permaculture farming that people are getting back into?
What can beat a free herbalism lesson? Thank you for your book, "Making Plant Medicine ". It helped me tremendously battling stage 3 lymphoma. Your advice on American ginseng is a lifesaver for chemo patients
what a great plant walk. love all the diversity you have created. Very interesting about the tobacco plant seeds needing fire to germinate; fire to be born and fire to transcend into smoke. Can you do a video on how to harvest and cure the Klip Dagga ; Cordao. Mine grew gigantic and have wonderful orange flowers (Thank you so much!) I love that I can see from your gardens where exactly the seeds I have grown out come from!!
Yes! I found me in 5 years! Thank you! I am a bit of a hermit but have given my life to the land I hermit on. I have wanted to experiment with haoma from the Avestas or hum or hōm etc. I was prescribed a stimulant by a doc that I found to do the same effect as speed did when I try in high school but I don’t like being dependent on cities for my goods. Can I legally grow the ephedra species to use medicinally? Have you or can you legally give help or advice to me on such? I understand if not. I live in wimer oregon and am planting a green roof with fast draining medium I thought might work well with this? Thank you for you hard working wisdom to share.
I can't ever get the seed to germinate. I've tried everything. Can you do a video about actually germinating the ma-huang. Is there a difference in the medicine strength between the mail and female
I could use a video on how to sprout and grow ma Huang. I tried to start some indoors this fall with a grow light and none germinated. A couple of questions I had are how to sprout them and once it gets going is it hardy enough to handle NE Ohio lack of sunlight and abundance of rain?
Hi, thanks for watching! Its not a video, but all your questions are answered here: strictlymedicinalseeds.com/product/ma-huang-ephedra-sinica-packet-of-5-seeds/
So very excited to begin or give this another try rather. so may I ask why the white lava rock is something you recommend over the blends I have found on Amazon? Also, when beginning my seedlings, should I even add Coco Core to the mix? This is Mel Sanchez by the way the girl that just left the very long detailed message 20 minutes ago lol
Hello Mel, White pumice is an excellent choice as an ingredient for the potting soil and to surround the developing and mature succulent or xeric plants. It drains perfectly. The white color reflects light back up into the plant. Commercial cactus mix or coarse, sharp sand may also prove useful. Try to find an inexpensive option and use lots. Richo
How does growing in the tropics affect the plant in terms of starting the seeds and harvesting? We just got some of the equisetina and sinica seeds from you and are so excited to start them! We live in Honolulu, HI.
I've found that ephedra tends to decline in pots. Every once in awhile you'll get a good one that goes to sexual maturity in a pot, but generally they're happier when planted in the fast-draining soil, or if potted, yes, given some outdoors time. You can check my book "Growing Plant Medicine Vol 1" for the in-depth ephedra monographs.
Isn’t datura hallucinogenic/poisonous? I know the Jimson weed grows like crazy on the roadways here and around my home. With small children I tend to rip it out. The flowers are big and beautiful but I don’t want to risk it with kids. I’ve had it grow near other plants and was worried it could infect other edible plants but wasn’t sure so I would rid it. Is this a concern? I usually wash my hands after dealing with it, but I don’t want my strawberries or tomatoes or any other edibles infected by the datura stramonia that grows wildly here. Any thoughts?
well, you are right, we note in our literature/presentations that datura should never be ingested. Toxic stuff is everywhere, so the best approach is to educate so that even if a child is somewhere other than the places where it has been ripped up, they still know not to eat it.
I've been trying to germinate ephedra sinica for the past 3 years, I've been purchasing them from White Buffalo and I've tried every way possible including sticking exactly to their instructions (wb).
hit waitlist for ma-huang seed online at strictly medicinal seeds, we are looking at a good harvest this year probably in July or August. When the e-mail hits your inbox, do not hesitate. Check "Growing Plant Medicine" vol 1 for complete propagation scenario
I can't find a safe source for catnip seeds. When I ask "Does this contain Nepetalactone when grown?" I get people who don't know what that is or will reply that the seeds are for ornamental catnip which defeats the purpose.

I like "web of life", something all of us need to promote rather than reconstruct a technological ideal that really exterminates life. Thank ya'll.
Great information and knowledge. Please keep doing these videos! I love seeing how your plants grow in the wild. And very true about the fire.

Are those white flowers I. corymbosa?
What is the fast-draining medium you use for your ma huang? I'm in the Willamette Valley and mine are struggling. Love your videos and education.
Coarse, sharp sand and whte pumice from Eastern Oregon, not far from you. I suggest reading the Ephedra chapter in "Growing Plant Medicine Vol 1."

Great video! When growing Ephedra in pots would they be alright to overwinter outside? Or would it be best to bring them indoors?
