"Overall Sir, your blade will 'kkiieellll'!"😁
Should get them to do a bit more in-depth history of the weapon they are to forge.
They legit never look happy when they win
For some of the next episodes, make a Croatian Yatagan. A bit longer then Turkish and it was two of those tucked on the back of the Croat Dalmatian regiment until the early 20th century.
6:30 -10 points for using an endangered species for the handle. -10 more for wasting it
I like the fact that both smiths respected each other equally.
It seems to be a common thing on this show. Honestly the hosts are respectful to the smiths. I haven't watched a lot for yrs but seen quite a few lately, obvious reasons. I like that I don't see a clear agenda from hosts and no one trying to grandstand for the camera.
@@JoeSmith-iv3sf Right!? So nice to have a good show that's not toxic!
Ya Gabe said Dave can do it better then you have Dave saying gabes gonna do it
Lol the other guy smiled when the other guy blade chipped and handle cracked.. he knew if his blade can stay alive it was a guaranteed wind
I just like that it just seems genuine. They don't create situations to create or stage conflict. I am certainly not a Smith by trade but it looks like it's real work. The contestants bust their butts to make the best blades they can which ultimately is what the show is about, and the host treat them as such.
It's almost like the real world with well functioning adults lol. We can all hope at least.
“You’re blade is so light it really feels as if it’s not there” still proceeds to cut through two huge bones with almost no blade damage
as blacksmith hand making sword, blade are much stronger and it art. same with old architecture like old temple around America, Indonesia, Cambodia, thailand, India, Arabia, Egypt beutiful only with hand

The funny coincide is that, not only the blade is a Turkish one but also the forge hammer (0:25) is also from Turkish manufacturer Sahinler.

I'm sorry but this show is honestly making me have a genuine interest in blacksmithing and I'm a short fuse away from buying a forge.
You've been inspired by the show. Now, will you be better than these smiths, or just another person with a forge? I look forward to seeing your work.
Me too
Virutosah but why do you say sorry
It got me into forging and it's fun go for it
Same here. Looking at the stuff to start.
I don't know why even I bother to give this info but somehow I wanted to.
Yatagan is a curved type sword used by ottoman elite shock troops aka, the janissaries. The most noticeable thing on it that it's inward sharp and never double-sided. There are a few reasons for that;
The first reason is that like in greek kopis, the inward sharpened blades are transferring at least %40-50 percent of more force in one side on vertical or attacks from upward. The reason is the by leaving one side blunt, the ottoman blacksmiths have discovered that they can make a heavier but at the same time, more balanced weapons. Chemically, yatagans blunt side was made usually of iron in order to gain flexibility and the edge was made of high-quality carbon steel to absorb the impact. Another trick is its weight ratio. This blade allowed janissaries to eliminate armored European knights in close combats.
Janissaries were not as much as armored as knights but their brutish training from very early ages allowed them to precisely using this weapon along with many other gunpowder guns. On the other hand, knights had a full plate, good trained and very well protected, most knights were not using a gorget(small piece of plate in order to protect neck and collarbones sometimes) in order to look around freely. Their helm was usually closed and their sight was fairly limited in close quarters except for their devastating cavalry charge, which not required any sight. So the gaps around the neck trapezius area were mostly allowed janissaries to strike a lethal blow to chainmail and this kind of blow was usually fatal. In the 15th era, a pain of yatagan was called ``head scissors`` in Europe after some catastrophic events. (etc. battle of Mohacs, the battle of Kosovo 1448).
Secondly, yatagans are more than swords. In Turkish culture, its at least important as what katana was for the samurai. It was used by a lot of people just because of their artistic beauty and its ears. (usually pummels has quotes from the holy Quran etc). In a street fight, it was a custom to use the blunted side for the stronger opponent to balance the odds.

He went for beauty over durability.
I noticed ebony always breaks on the test
He was hoping for a banana, a nice soft banana 🤣🍌
Lesson learned: NEVER use ebony!
I'm always rooting for those competitors without power hammers or something else.
I think we all do. Seeing some green kid with no equipment is satisfying.. Please know though that many blacksmiths who make a living at it do not have all the fancy toys.
And as we see it’s still incredibly effective to work with your own hands. It may take longer but the effort pays off! Literally an artwork 👍🏼
Yeah, my german grandfather was a master smith like his father, grandfather and so on and my gramps once said to me, as I showed him this show and some guy used a powerhammer, "a real man doesn't use a powerhammer, if someone needs one in his forge you know what that guy needs in his bedroom"
This is stupid so we all have to respect the guy who drives a shitbox of a car just because its a shitbox...
@@matthewfarrugia5095 no of course not. But if someone doesn't use the power hammer and still has a perfect product you gotta respect it. Also neither is a powerhammer the Ferrari, Koenigsegg or Mercedes of the smithing industry nor handwork the Dacia of the smithing industry
"I'll do my celebrating behind closed doors" might be the most respectful thing I've ever heard on a competition show. No celebrating in front of the guy that just lost, just quiet happiness. It takes a very big person to be a graceful winner like that.
Yatağan is an iconic Turkish sword. Janniseries and irregular infantries used it.
"Im gonna use ebony, because its a pretty wood, but its a little brittle"
*Me eating cereal in my underwear* ohhh hoho you better not
"I have major blade and handle damage, but it's not over yet."
I mean, your opponent's blade is in perfect condition. It's pretty much over.😂
You never know. The silks could break his opponent's blade

I'm pretty sure that line was thrown in after the fact in editing.

I love this show for many reasons. How cool Will Willis is, how amazing the judges are, the awesome bladesmithing we get to watch. But my favorite thing about this show is how respectful and wholesome the contestants always are. History channel hit it out of the park with Forged in Fire
note that Yataghan was used against heavily armoured european cavarly and infantries, and Turkish light infantries equipped with yataghans absolutely obliterated them, average infantryman could deliver insane amount of damage to heavy armor with Yataghan. after the disasters in Kosovo and Nicopolis, europeans called it hand scissor, since Jannisarries used 2 Yataghans at the same time, like japanese samurais.
Kelle makası olmasın
Some corrections to history diatribes and fantasy tales posted in the comments. The fantasy stories about yatagans were fabricated later then transported in the past. Battle of Kosovo was in 1389, Battle of Nicopolis in 1396, second Battle of Kosovo was in 1448. That was late 14th century and mid-15th century. But yatagans were used by the Ottoman Turks about TWO centuries later, from the mid-16th century (mid-1500s) up to late-19th century. They could only be used (and most like were not) during the Battle of Mohacs in 1526. The fantasy stories about yatagans were fabricated much later, then transported back in the past when the weapon did not exist.
@@zvonimirtosic6171 lol what?😂 Did you think yatağans got invented at ottoman empire? Yatağans were always used by the Turks since central asia. No fantasy here. Don't cry!.
İ feel so strange. Because YATAGAN is my village. My whole grandparents live there and my grandfathers are blacksmith. It's nice seeing that weapon here.
The guy kinda put himself to fail he knew that wood was weak and still went with it pretty much gave the guy the big W with trying that tho the other guys blade did ten times better. I legit thought it was gonna bend in the strength test but nope
His blade still would have chipped
The handle would’ve been completely fine if he didn’t fit it so poorly.
I also think he didn't harden his blade,
at least they didn't show it
@@kshatriya1414 idk man the guy even said the wood is weak its soft and he pretty much knew what he did and even kinda hinted that something could go wrong if he uses the wood. He went for more cosmetic than function
@Tyler K. No. He just chose an edge profile poorly suited for the test
Yatağan is not a Persian sword, it is an Ottoman Turkish sword, its blade is very sharp and its back is soft, which prevents it from breaking. You are making a program, at least make them tell the truth.
Dave is a funny dude.”I hope they cut it on a banana or something soft” 😂😂
The more and more of these Forged in Fire videos I watch on TH-cam, the more I’m convinced Doug is the most enthusiastic of the judges and the most enthusiastic to test the weapons, he just loves it, he just craves it

I like how Gabe won. In the first Round, he got screwed over by Josh who just left him there after Gabe helped him get his Leaf Spring. And then Josh did not survive the test for that knife. Kind of Karmic.
The use of double Yatagan was common and this use was also called Turkish scissors.
