    Smacked it out of the park Josh. HOME RUN! One of the many strengths to your vids ... is also the voice over that shares how you think through the project. That's a nice touch and the volume is good too. great work man

      Thanks Thor for the awesome comment again! I am going to practice more voice overs. I did not think about that but you are right it lets people know how you think. I will keep the audio where it is at. Thanks again!

    What’s the slope angle for 3” main drainage line? 1/4” every 1 ft? Is this a rule of thumb for all sized pipes?

    Hi Josh, my builder left the washer drain opening sealed , what should I do to open it up ?

    I have 2"x4" stubs. If I drill a hole in them for the 2" PVC pipe, I lose the structural integrity. Should I just run the p trap/drain outside the wall?

    • @yeahiwasder4dat326
      @yeahiwasder4dat326 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's load bearing, use a stud shoe. If it's interior and not load bearing the wall is fine as it's only there to hang drywall.

  • @okranch5819

    Why do you need a trap if it is glued? Can’t clean it out? Thanks for taking the time to do these videos! I have learned a ton!

    • @ThrasherGnar

      It’s to prevent sewer gases from escaping up from the main drain pipe(water barrier)

    So, I have a stupid question. I have this exact same sharkbite outlet box. How in the heck do you get the drain knockout out?!? There's a little hole in the middle that was no problem to pop out; however, to get the whole knockout out seems impossible! It's one continuous piece of plastic! They advise to glue everything together *before* removing the knockout, but now that I've done that, I think it's made it even more impossible to remove the thing!! How do you get the thing off? I literally think it's one piece, so do I need a special tool?

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! The best way to remove that is to use a screwdriver that is a flat head and a hammer. Then kind of use it like a chisel and bust it out. Yes it is very strong so you got to put some muscle behind it. I was worried about breaking mine to when I had to knock it out. I hope that helps you!

    Why do you have the bottom of the pipe curving upward? Isn’t that going to make it harder for the water to drain properly?

    By code the vertical pipe from the trap to the outlet box must be 18-24 inches.

    The hot water washer hose will not come off. Tried to loosen and tighten the hose to hopefully get some movement but it wouldn’t budge. In doing so, the whole valve assembly moved about an inch to the left and right a few times. It occurred to me that I was bending the copper tube below and behind the drywall. Should I be worried? Fill time for the washing machine didn’t change. Should I be worried? Is the copper pipe much stronger than I give it credit for?

    How can I add a box drain for a water filter system in the power bathroom ???

  • @Fleetwoodjohn

    I’m getting ready to install one of these as a retrofit on an older set up and I am stuck on the proper mounting height I’ve heard anywhere from 32 to 43 inches. Anyone know the reasoning to height. I get the part about not creating a siphon. Also the part about not wanting to see it behind the washer. Help???

    Thanks for the video. Have you done any better methods besides the hammer for the 2 inch drain cap?

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually use a little hammer. You probably could use a screwdriver and then hit the end of the hammer on an angle from outside of the box if you want.

    All of your DWV videos are good EXCEPT for the fact that you never mention or talk about the under the floor component of the project. Be nice to see a video of the crawl space drain system that you must already have in place.

    Hello. Nice video. Thank you. Would you have a rough idea of about what it would cost me to pay someone to do this for me? How much would a plumber charge to install the box and hook up to existing drain and water connections? I know there's a lot of things to consider, but just a round about figure. Thanks

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey David! A plumber in my area would charge $50/hr for this job. I would guess it would be about a 4hr job in an older house on a crawl space if drains and pressure lines were easy you get to. Hope that helps!

    I just bought a home with a new washer box installed already. Can I use a 🔨 and 🪛 to pop it out while it's installed already? I'm afraid it will fall into the drain. I saw a video and the guy said to cut it out with a razor. I tried and broke my blade. What's best way to remove it while installed? Thank you.

      Hey Tommy! Yes I had to use a hammer and screwdriver to punch it out. It is very tough plastic. Hope that helps!
