  • In this episode we’re headed into the N. GA mountains to fly fish the famous Etowah River as it flows out of the mountains into the magnificent Montaluce Winery. Aside from the winery’s great wine, food and architecture, this section of the river is loaded with trophy trout.
We’ll not only be touring this beautiful winery with GM Matthew Garner and learning all about wine making, but we’ll also have Matthew join us on the river too. He’s not a fly fisher, but we plan to try really hard to turn him into one and to help us, we’ve invited our good friend “Big T” of Big T Fly Fishing and Soque River Outfitters.
So come along with us as we learn about the Etowah River’s history as well as that of the area - the Native American influences, US Army Ranger Mountaineering School, the Appalachian Trail, Veterans Fly Fishing, the gold fever, and a heck of a lot more.

Great video guys! I wanted to give a shout out to Chris Sloan, mid-May of this year I was fishing the South Holston. I was wade fishing below where Chris was fishing and I was struggling to figure out the right fly to use. Chris was catching a fish every other cast, after an hour or so he yelled at me and told me to come up there and fish with him. We introduced our self and he tied on a dry dropper rig for me and let me fish his spot and I started catching fish. I was telling him about this really informative video I watched on TH-cam, he said, "yea we made that video", I wasn't expecting to meet someone I follow on TH-cam, LOL To give a stranger some flies and let him fish your spot is not something I have ever encountered on the river. This speaks to Chris's character and I will try to be a better man because of him. Thank you Chris!!!!

hey Jeff great to hear from you... we had a great time together and truly enjoyed that time with you and your friend... those times together are a lot more fun than just standing around catching fish... met a new friend and that's the beauty of the sport! Hope to see you again!

Really great videos this season. Thanks for featuring great fly fishing spots in the southeast. Unfortunately, I’m kind of bummed that it may spur even more people to fish these waters.🤣🤣

thanks for the kind feedback... in most cases we stuck to either private waters requiring a guide service or a tailwater that is easily accessible... you may visit the waters, but you still have to learn how to fish them LOL. But we do try and strike the balance.

Unbelievable I live 10 mins from the winery. Know Matt (a really nice guy) and eat there once to twice a month.
And I’m a member of Gold Rush trout unlimited in dahlonega and some members are part of the veterans fly fishing initiative thank you for a great video.

appreciate the feedback... so Sam is one of the founding members of Gold Rush and we know Dr. M and Neal very well. They've done a great job with Veterans Fly Fishing and appreciate their contributions back to our heroes!
