Grenada lake is infested with gars, but I am not sure that there are any really huge ones like the one you caught, but it is the south. Muddy water, hot weather, and huge rain fall amounts makes the place ideal for tough fish that lie in wait for smaller fish being washed down the many creeks we have here. I guess the possibility of huge gar, is almost a certainty. Very muddy dark water, you can not see through it at all a lot of times. Sardis Lake is also nearby. I think New Orleans and Memphis gets more rain than Seattle, Washington. You always hear about the rain year around there, but I don't think Seattle is even in the top five cities with the most rain fall. Good luck and great fishing to you.

Gars are awesome. I’ve only ever seen the smaller varieties in florida (florida & longnose gars), and I’ve always wanted to see an alligator gar. I’ve swam near them, and they’re chill fish. So pretty.
Don't know how this ended up in my feed but glad it did. He put that fish on a leash & made sure it could still get oxygen, tried not to stress it out then released it. Cool catch & release.

I caught a 5 1/2 foot carp at a local creek/dam here in Kentucky. It was so heavy, that I couldn't lift it without help from my now husband. Everyone watched us from a bridge going over the creek and we had quite the crowd cheering me on. It was the biggest fish that I have ever caught! I couldn't believe how big it was! That was so much fun!

You realize he didn't kill it, nobody mentioned killing it until YOU brought it up, so what is the entire point of your line of questioning regarding killing it? And for what it's worth I'm glad he didn't kill it but at the same time you don't know his motivations, what if he caught it and donated the meat from the catch to an individual/family in need? Wrap your head around that before you respond please, since you're calling for common sense which you clearly lack yourself. Jesus should send help your way first imo.

It's actually a pretty common fish...fun to catch tho especially when they get big..I fish for catfish and catch gar all the time. Gar are the reason why I switched to steel leads.

You are living my best childhood memories. I remember fishing knee deep in mud on the Mississippi and Illinois rivers where we caught all sorts of fish. Never caught or seen any like the monster gar you caught in this video.

Did my heart good to see you release that big girl. When I was young, my uncle took me and my cousin (his son) fishing at a stock pond down here in South Texas, and I recall seeing massive water disturbances at the far end of the pond. I asked him what it was and why we weren't going to that end to fish, and he said it was alligator gars. So, I wasn't clear whether they were dangerous or just not good to eat, but have never gone after them cuz of that event. That was about 60 years ago. Guess I missed out on something good to eat, after all!!
I saw old photo's of Alligator Garfish that were 12" long caught in SE Louisiana. My Dad who was an avid Spots fisherman used to catch the young 15 to 20 pounders, skin them with a sharp hatchet and when he got home he would ''grind" the dark red meet in one of those old hand crank meat grinders then add seasoning , roll them in flour them deep fry his garfish "fritters". I hooked one once, took the hook out with a pair of pliers and let him go. I didn't want that thing in my skiff, they could do a lot of damage with those teeth.....JoeM.

They ain’t worth a damn and always eat n kill all the other good fish we like they r nothing but destruction nevermind the looks actually they are a cute fish imo but I kill as many as I can catch due to the prior reasons and so should everyone. @@shawnbrown5653 Its a natural part of the Eco-system. Those fish used to be twice that size swimming those rivers before settlers came the the south, and the ecosystem was 10x healthier back then as well.

Funny thing! I grew up in Miami/Davie. Everglades all my life, deep sea fishing, &lakes. From gators to peacock bass. Its how I grew up. I watch your channel and your brother deermeat all the time! I now live in Prague ok right up the road from where u guys ate catfish after Shawnee noodling. 25 years as an outdoorsman in Fla. Now living in Oklahoma for 15yrs. This year in Oklahoma I took down/harvested 23 hogs with my 556 on my 500 acre whitetail prop in Stratford Ok. Some were over 300lbs. Last bow season at same prop I took 6 whitetail. (10 in total with three man team )You are a brother from another mother my friend! Speaking of brother. Me Doug(Dark horse archery) from Redstone Co, and my Brother from Miami shores all hunt whitetail here yearly. I drop 1500 lbs of feed monthly at feeder locations . We are serious about it and have a blast! We put it down! Would of loved to meet you as we grew up so similar, literally.
Hit up the Guadalupe river or comal river or the canyon lake while you're there. Theyre all the the most beautiful rivers and lake...just beautiful. Crystal clear waters in the river and you can float on a tube down em and enjoy yourself

I'm from Dallas and have lived here my entire life and I've passed by the Trinity river plenty of times and knew that people threw almost everything in that river because sometimes it has an awful smell when you're on the highway but I never knew that people fished there and that we had fish that big in there I would like to fish with homie one day.

I don't know man. Seems kind of pointless to fish just for your own enjoyment. Either eat what you catch, or don't fish. I mean, to hook and injure a fish, take it out of the water and screw with it purely to give you a dopamine rush seems, ironically, needlessly cruel. When I hunt, I eat the animal, and make useful products or art out of what I can't eat. When I fish, I eat what I catch. If I have no need of the quality meat, then I don't do either. I'll probably never understand people who fish (or hunt for that matter) only for sport, and not sustenance.

Gabe that brings back memories. I was fishing as a teen in a 12 ft boat with my Dad in Georgia and had 3 under our boat as long as the boat. Never caught one that big though. We didn’t have anything nearly big enough tackle wise to bring one in. My father had a reverence for them.

Just saw video of 3 guys taking turns over a hour to catch a fish estimated 600 lbs. in a river. I don't know which State though. Try typing in TH-cam search 600 pound fish. It looked bigger than the gar caught in video above. 😳

Done and done, my friend. I also told my son about your channel. We live in North Mississippi. Grenada lake is infested with gars, but I am not sure that there are any really huge ones like the one you caught, but it is the south. Muddy water, hot weather, and huge rain fall amounts makes the place ideal for tough fish that lie in wait for smaller fish being washed down the many creeks we have here. I guess the possibility of huge gar, is almost a certainty. Very muddy dark water, you can not see through it at all a lot of times. Sardis Lake is also nearby. I think New Orleans and Memphis gets more rain than Seattle, Washington. You always hear about the rain year around there, but I don't think Seattle is even in the top five cities with the most rain fall.

Gars are awesome. I’ve only ever seen the smaller varieties in florida (florida & longnose gars), and I’ve always wanted to see an alligator gar. I’ve swam near them, and they’re chill fish. So pretty.

I caught a 5 1/2 foot carp at a local creek/dam here in Kentucky. It was so heavy, that I couldn't lift it without help from my now husband. Everyone watched us from a bridge going over the creek and we had quite the crowd cheering me on. It was the biggest fish that I have ever caught! I couldn't believe how big it was! That was so much fun!

Did my heart good to see you release that big girl. When I was young, my uncle took me and my cousin (his son) fishing at a stock pond down here in South Texas, and I recall seeing massive water disturbances at the far end of the pond. I asked him what it was and why we weren't going to that end to fish, and he said it was alligator gars. So, I wasn't clear whether they were dangerous or just not good to eat, but have never gone after them cuz of that event. That was about 60 years ago. Guess I missed out on something good to eat, after all!!
They have the texture of chicken nugget but taste way better.
I saw old photo's of Alligator Garfish that were 12" long caught in SE Louisiana. My Dad who was an avid Spots fisherman used to catch the young 15 to 20 pounders, skin them with a sharp hatchet and when he got home he would ''grind" the dark red meet in one of those old hand crank meat grinders then add seasoning , roll them in flour them deep fry his garfish "fritters". I hooked one once, took the hook out with a pair of pliers and let him go. I didn't want that thing in my skiff, they could do a lot of damage with those teeth.....JoeM.

Funny thing! I grew up in Miami/Davie. Everglades all my life, deep sea fishing, &lakes. From gators to peacock bass. Its how I grew up. I watch your channel and your brother deermeat all the time! I now live in Prague ok right up the road from where u guys ate catfish after Shawnee noodling. 25 years as an outdoorsman in Fla. Now living in Oklahoma for 15yrs. This year in Oklahoma I took down/harvested 23 hogs with my 556 on my 500 acre whitetail prop in Stratford Ok. Some were over 300lbs. Last bow season at same prop I took 6 whitetail. (10 in total with three man team )You are a brother from another mother my friend! Speaking of brother. Me Doug(Dark horse archery) from Redstone Co, and my Brother from Miami shores all hunt whitetail here yearly. I drop 1500 lbs of feed monthly at feeder locations . We are serious about it and have a blast! We put it down! Would of loved to meet you as we grew up so similar, literally.

I'm from Dallas and have lived here my entire life and I've passed by the Trinity river plenty of times and knew that people threw almost everything in that river because sometimes it has an awful smell when you're on the highway but I never knew that people fished there and that we had fish that big in there I would like to fish with homie one day.

I don't know man. Seems kind of pointless to fish just for your own enjoyment. Either eat what you catch, or don't fish. I mean, to hook and injure a fish, take it out of the water and screw with it purely to give you a dopamine rush seems, ironically, needlessly cruel. When I hunt, I eat the animal, and make useful products or art out of what I can't eat. When I fish, I eat what I catch. If I have no need of the quality meat, then I don't do either. I'll probably never understand people who fish (or hunt for that matter) only for sport, and not sustenance.

Как-то по радио слышал, что щук такого размера лучше не отпускать, ест много(причём себе подобных) , а пользы ноль. Менее крупные более плодовиты. Так что если заботишься о популяции, лучше не отпускай.

Glad y'all kept the smaller one and let that dinosaur live. A 7-footer is a trophy fish, and I bet it was at least 40 years old.

Awesome catch! Biggest catch I’ve ever reeled in was an Alligator Gar…just a little bit bigger than this one, straight out the Suwannee River, Dixie County Florida. Great video. Brought all those memories back for me. It was a good day

37. Her Lord accepted her with a gracious reception, and brought her a beautiful upbringing, and entrusted her to the care of Zechariah. Whenever Zechariah entered upon her in the sanctuary, he found her with provision. He said, “O Mary, where did you get this from?” She said, “It is from Allah; Allah provides to whom He wills without reckoning.”
38. Thereupon Zechariah prayed to his Lord; he said, “My Lord, bestow on me good offspring from Your presence; You are the Hearer of Prayers.”

35. It is not for Allah to have a child-glory be to Him. To have anything done, He says to it, “Be,” and it becomes.
36. “Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”
37. But the various factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieve from the scene of a tremendous Day.
38. Listen to them and watch for them the Day they come to Us. But the wrongdoers today are completely lost.
39. And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded. Yet they are heedless, and they do not believe.
40. It is We who will inherit the earth and everyone on it, and to Us they will be returned.
41. And mention in the Scripture Abraham. He was a man of truth, a prophet.
42. He said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship what can neither hear, nor see, nor benefit you in any way?
43. O my father, there has come to me knowledge that never came to you. So follow me, and I will guide you along a straight way.

49. When he withdrew from them, and from what they worship besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob. And each We made a prophet.
50. And We gave them freely of Our mercy, and gave them a noble reputation of truth.

Gabe that brings back memories. I was fishing as a teen in a 12 ft boat with my Dad in Georgia and had 3 under our boat as long as the boat. Never caught one that big though. We didn’t have anything nearly big enough tackle wise to bring one in. My father had a reverence for them.

Just saw video of 3 guys taking turns over a hour to catch a fish estimated 600 lbs. in a river. I don't know which State though. Try typing in TH-cam search 600 pound fish. It looked bigger than the gar caught in video above. 😳
