Hi Dr. Malke. Love to watch your vids every time.
I am an NEUROSURGERY aspirant. But I've heard that this is very hard to get into a match for IMGs. What should I do ? Can you make everything clear about it please???

If I want to get into general surgery then should I have to start from now ?I’m in my medical school third year.
What’s the best way & best best time to start preparing?

Hi Dr. Malke, I wanna thank you a lot for being such an inspiration for me and for lots of others, I really appreciate your hard work. May I ask you a favor?
Can you make a video in Arabic telling us your story with your original Syrian accent , tell us how could you overcome all the struggles that face us being arabs, how could you modify your mentality to pursue your dream for such a competitive speciality. What was your cultural background and how studying at Aleppo was, how could you adapt living at the us at your first months. I wish I could know all of these stories that would me feel like as you are a true friend "which is an honor I would like to have🥰"

Hi , very informative. Can u please let us know the importance of ABSITE in getting advanced into categorical position from a prelim year ?

    Great video,
Please suggest me which type of elective is best telerotations or on-site?
What’s the major difference between these two?

  • @MalkeAsaad
    @MalkeAsaad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Additional comments:
1- In order for the same program to match you as PGY1 categorical or take you as PGY2,3 categorical you need to have a good ABSITE score as well which really might be a surrogate for STEP scores.
2- Another route after PGY2 prelim is to do one year of burn fellowship or critical care and then apply again for PGY3 or even the MATCH.
3- Another thing is if you don’t have visa issues and you are in a state that gives full license after 2 years of ACGME-accredited training, you can either moonlight as a surgicalist or do wound care and pursue that as a career and make a lot of money 💰

How many minimum electives should anyone do to get matched into Neurosurgery, ortho-surgery or interventional cardiology???
And after how long from that electives, one can apply for research works and how many( or how long) researches should somebody do to make higher chances to get into desired specialities????

I would really appreciate if you could give me your opinion on this. I'm applying this match for gen surg and there are some programs that offer both categorical and prelim. my scores and statistics according to residency explorer is in the average or top 25%. should I apply to both cat and prelim in the same program? or should I pick either prelim or cat? what do you think the program will think if I apply to both cat and prelim in their program. I would really appreciate if you could help me decide... Thank you!

Why not to become a surgeon in your own country and provide services to people there itself. I’m sure most of the regions where IMGs come from are in need of good doctors. Why to raise the competition for US graduates. Quite a lot of them are not able to secure a surgery seat in their own country while an IMG is able to. This is unfair.

    • @timthomas6248

It’s called competition or survival of the fittest. Best example is how sports clubs (baseball, soccer etc) would buy top foreign players because they are better than what they can get at home. If you aren’t as good then don’t discriminate against someone more talented just because they are foreign just raise your game higher. Peace ✌️

Before applying for match- Research: 2-3 years.
Another 2-3 years before getting a categorocal position.
Total: 4-6 years before getting settled.
Even, this is mostly for general surgery let alone other more competitive specialities.
Isn't is too risky and too lengthy?
