Yessss MJ2005, one of the most complete gunpla reviewer, reviewing one of the most complete 1/144 gunpla. Best 10 minutes I spent today. Thanks for the concise yet dense information!
That being said, the frame hasn't been a major selling point for RGs, not in the visual sense at least. I'm glad they included that in the offerings just for people who like their inner frames
Thanks for showing a fully decaled fully panel lined kit, as most reviewers tend to miss this and only show us it's out of box build which doesn't really show the true visual prowess of a real grade. also big thanks for bringing out the inner frame manual thing, you're the only one so far to mention this and that helps a lot as I'm also waiting for mine to arrive. I'm also amazed at how Bandai managed to give the gramps a very "prototype-y" look next to the Hi Nu (which has a very polished look in comparison, given it's successor spirit) at 3:57, Just as it would be in the canonical sequence of events in the UC era, it's as if they've planned the gramps to look amazing without making it look more polished than the gundam it's supposed to precede a decade before, despite being produced as a model kit 3 years later in the real world. 6:26 it's insane that this new kit mount its weapons this way, not even the RG Hi Nu does this as it relies on traditional mounting holes and C-clips instead, the bazooka and rifle attachments on the arms are very well thought out, unlike the Hi Nu which often clashes with its binders or its weirdly designed wrist. The color separated eye is amazing, even more so when Bandai could print details on a decal so tiny, I hope the RG Akatsuki follows this trend, it's blue twin eye needs to be light piped like the Epyon.
showing out of the box is better since it shows what we are getting. the pictures on the box and manuals are painted and decaled to show what it could be
I try to be as comprehensive as possible, so I'm glad I'm able to show you what the kit looks like OOB and with a bit of effort put in, as well as provide information that others will tend to miss. While I only pulled out random RGs for comparisons, that shot kinda shows you the canonical lineage of UC mechanics despite their engineering gaps IRL. Kinda magical if you think about it The ways the weapons are mounted still satisfy me a lot, as they are simple, effective, and low-risk. Granted the Hi-Nu is larger than life by design, but that goes to show the simplicity of the Gramps can work out sometimes. Those eyes are amazing, I agree. Sure, the differences between the standard stickers and lens details are imperceptible at a glance, but it's still a nice and well-executed touch for extra details to be represented.
@@kidrobot. Speak for yourself, not everyone builds their kit that way, sure some people are too scared to meddle further with their kits once built but for people experienced enough to know how to panel line and apply decal and stuff, they want to see what it looks like in its full glory, and the photos on the box art are either in CGI, or are too small to be appreciated, the fact that MJ is showing us this build in both OOB and fully detailed with panel line and stickers attached (unlike the other gunpla reviewer) is something I'm happy about.
@@erlienfrommars lol? they(bandai) held a poll and the majority only straight build. as evident in the reviewers that don't go the extra mile like you said. so you are speaking for yourself(the minority). also yes, not everyone builds the same. but for straight builders you get what it looks like straight out of the box. for people who paint and decal, it won't be representative because people use different paints/liners/decals/etc.
Apparently some people are unhappy that I praise the reviewer for going beyond a straight build and showing us a fully detailed kit that Bandai intentionally left there to fully take advantage with.
I'm very impressed that the interframe looks very very sturdy and will not fall off on you which really proves how far we've come in the real great technology. Ask for the figure itself I'm just in awe at how good everything looks how everything looks very articulated and the fact that apart from some small minor parts everything is in place perfectly well. Granted some design cues are a little on the this is gonna be a you'll like it or not situation but there's no denying that the amount of poses you can do with it and it won't fall off and swap all around is definitely a good sign of a good real grade. Hell I'm giving it major props especially with the added bonus of having the traditional universal adapter points so you can slap on a High-grade backpack and go completely bonkers with whatever design you can think of making this probably the first real grade to actually give you more room to make some custom builds, at least with the backpacks. A very fantastic and solid review of the kit that kick-starts the 40th anniversary and I'm still in awe how awesome this thing looks!
so bandai went from mini mg to mini pg for their rg line. ooooh man, can't wait for them to make rg 2.0 zeta. I'm still sad that my rg zeta is now too weak to stand, some missing part and some broken part 😮💨

Bandai is pulling all the stops for this RG 2.0 kit. MS proportion did suffer due to the amount of stuff bandai put in the kit but still a great gunpla overall. Great review as always
Then again, proportional accuracy is largely out the window when it comes to RGs. That being said, how you take to it is fully subjective, as what that compromise resulted in is objectively undeniable. Glad you liked the video
Very nice review MJ! Always love the effort you put in your Videos. 🧡 Very nice looking kit, but missed opportunity by Bandai for not doing an dual release with the 0 Gundam. :(
Now that is near perfection. HG revive has no little plane. This super thing. It can go after hg red comet char’s Zaku. Maybe Zaku can get makeover now. Maybe Unicorn can also have makeover to be less fragile when assembling it because new Gundam rock solid.

Wow, the level of detail on this RG RX-78-2 2.0 is mind-blowing! It's like having a miniature PG in my hands. This might just be the perfect balance of quality and affordability! What do you guys think?
The true king of gunpla is here, and I'm sure Mecha will gush out further as he enjoys the articulation for the most part once his review has been released. Otherwise, I can't wait to assemble this kit next month, the new joints intrigued me along with the beautiful technology despite it's appearance being based on the PG Unleashed.
If MGK doesn't make a 42-minute review dragging everything out, and still arbitrarily decided to not go through the articulation in detail/miss some points, then sure I'll give him a pass (we all know what happened with his IJ Type II video when he didn't). That being said, hope you enjoy the build.
@@mj2005gundam Unfortunately it's only around 30 mins and as for the articulation segment... This man can't catch a break about the abs when the ankles are not limited like- Mecha, have you seen this Gundam having a man like abcrunch pose in the anime, huh? Are you expecting the God Gundam level of ab articulation? He's blaming the core block system for that as an excuse to me XD
@@reannoire4330 If you want me to be really pedantic, it would clock in at about 55 minutes if you count the build like he does in every other video. A lot of repeating points, and while I'm not one to judge, he did also forget that the backpack port can be stored away, the secondary dropping mechanism in the waist, and an opening panel behind the legs that give even more ankle articulation. Our videos are flawed in our own ways, but I think acknowledging what has been done to maximize movement, especially the core block, is much better than stating how it's limited by ignoring the work done.
@@mj2005gundam I agree with those points. I will read the manual and check it while testing it in case of misunderstanding like what happened to me with my Epyon, fortunately it's a sturdy kit but- I don't quite get why the PS parts can be a little bit tight that later leaves a stress mark in some joints. It already happened with my Epyon's right shoulder if I didn't notice a familiar mark, which saved me from the brink of doom.
No. The front and rear cameras aren't directly linked by a clear piece. Instead, the light path between them is blocked by a part of the frame, while the clear connecting portion is inside the frame
2:21 Is it just me, or is Real Grade frames look more realistic compared to the HGIBO frames? I mean it has more detail compared to the IBO frame's skinny frame.
I mean, you're comparing apples to oranges here. the HGIBO frames are made on a tight budget for structural purposes only; while this kit can afford to have a fuller inner frame thanks to the higher budget range of an RG, making it good for visual and structural purposes.
Wow, rg gundam ver2.0 build and inner frame is just amazing of mechanical design. Switch rg kit get the ver 2.0 Treatment hope is sinanju or zeta both their kit are notorious fragile. Are you gonna do a complete video just like the rg freedom
We can only hope that Bandai would make 2.0s of the most problematic releases in the past. That being said, it would unnecessarily take up some precious RG slots. As for a Cheese vs Cheese, I'll have a think about it in a bit, as I wanna take a break from recording after I get my essays done, heavily hinging on when the Lighting Buster is slated for release
I kind of wish they gave some of that waist Articulation to the force impulse spec 2 like it can move side to side. I know the suit can bend forward but not back but I guess that's how the core splendor was design compare to the RX-78-2 unit.
I got this kit and planing to paint it. One thing I don't like is too many holes showing innerframe it makes the kit looks to have black spot all over it. I'm not sure what to do with it between paint it the same color as armor or use silver to paint those spot.
Part of those were covered up by metallic silver stickers in the final build, so I guess that's a viable approach to go, as unifying those details with the armor might look a bit weird with the different levels between them
If I do get this kit I'm coloring the out vents blue. Say MJ, where did you learn to customize gunpla? I want to get started but all the guides are in Japanese.
I just asked people with experiences in communities to give me some advice. Then it's really all about taking the plunge. I started with spray painting before working my way to hand-painting and airbrushing. As for scratch-building, I started with the AGE-1 Razor (bad idea), then was forced to scratch build other stuff for kits to fill in their gaps (which you'll see in due time). But most importantly, after asking for advice, you gotta take the plunge and start somewhere. Otherwise, you won't have the chance to mess up and learn.
@@mj2005gundam Thank you for your detailed reply. I'm guessing a lot of it comes down to trial and error and building the skills. I better get started.
It's good but I feel it's more on the High Grade side than the Real Grade side. It's solid, but I wouldn't call it an RG anymore. A highly detailed HG with inner frame and beautiful gimmicks. I might get one
I went to the Gundam base Thailand, and it was sold out in a day. They told me that the restock was gonna be on Saturday, and I was leaving on Monday 😭💀
@@mj2005gundam It depends tbh. Was pretty random before but mostly got the kits following week after release. Narrative Ver.Ka was different story as I didn't got tracking details before I got parcel xD
Quick Question: Are there any loose parts or things I should be aware of before getting this kit? I love how cool it looks, but I am just worried things will start to fall apart when I play with it. I like to play with my Gundam models like they are action figures (I'm such a kid lol).
Like I mentioned, the only points of attention are the looser shoulder panels and if you bend the torso back wrongly. Plus, it has survived a 10-minute review (filmed over like 4-5 hours) so it's as solid as a rock even after a lot of play
As far as I know, I think this shouldn't be a first rg kit cause it looks pretty complicated but i havent built it yet so idk. I think you should look into rg kits that came out after 2017 since I think any kits after that year are mostly good and don't heavily rely on the ms joint system.
No. This kit is way too intricate as an entry-level RG. I'd suggest getting something like any RG Impulse, RG Wing, or RG Tallgeese to start, then work your way up to kits like the RG Sazabi and RG Hi-Nu before tackling this one.
RG 2.0 may look subjective thanks to its highly mechanical/overdetailed look, but at last, Bandai made an articulated core fighter, which was hard to achieve back then.
If you assemble everything properly, it shouldn't break at all. My tip is to not force the joints during assembly. If you cannot bend them during assembly, that means they're not aligned correctly. Just take your time during the build, and enjoy the results
If you have that experience, I'd pin the difficulty to a 5 or 6. I'd definitely recommend being awake and lucid while building it, but you shouldn't have much trouble if you have built MGs before that
107 toys had already announced option parts set for (RG RX-78-2 ver2.0) rx-78-7,rx-78-6,rx-78-5,rx-78-4, rx-78-1 And oh boy am I going to make a bunch of bad financial decisions.
Can the shield be held upside down like the Origin version? Like with the handle in the hand? Or just rotated around but without being able to hold the handle?
If you wanna just flip it upside down, you can do that. But for having the handle be upside down as well, I cannot test that as the mounting assembly seems to be buckled into the underside like the HG Destroy's backpack, so it cannot be taken out easily if at all. They seem to all look the same, so if it works, you need to make your mind up before assembly. Worst case scenario, the mounting assembly cannot fit upside down.
Bandai sure has delivered on this one. They really learned a lot from the Real Grade Nu Gundam. ❤ But you know what's the downside of this Gunpla kit? The add-ons are P-BANDAI! GRRRR! 😂
To be fair, no version of the Granddaddies of recent (minus the EG Full Package) has all the weapons included. Not the MG 3.0, not the PGU, and the HGUC Revive's hammer and javelin are locked behind magazine expansion sets. Looking at it from that angle, I think it's completely fair that the extra weapons are DLC.
No authority, as I never had the MG 3.0. That being said, if you don't mind the robust silhouette, this is arguably better than any of the RGs or scare number of 1/100 kits I've built, with only the FM Raider coming close
@@mj2005gundam Yeah. I had to wait months for my God Phoenix from HobbySearch. I think that was due to Action Toys not being expedient than HobbySearch.

Perfect grandaddy!! Too bad it's not having full loaded weapon like hg origin granddaddy do 🗿
Nah
Different storylines, different settings
So the Main camera works as light-piping at a certain angle? * even using a torch function directly from a smartphone *
No. The front and rear cameras aren't directly linked by a clear piece. Instead, the light path between them is blocked by a part of the frame, while the clear connecting portion is inside the frame
fingers crossed we get more 2.0s for the older RGs. and maybe even some rg grunt suits
Last RG grunt was the Z'gok IIRC. We can only pray that the wait for another RG grunt would be over soon
2:21
Is it just me, or is Real Grade frames look more realistic compared to the HGIBO frames?
I mean it has more detail compared to the IBO frame's skinny frame.
I mean, you're comparing apples to oranges here. the HGIBO frames are made on a tight budget for structural purposes only; while this kit can afford to have a fuller inner frame thanks to the higher budget range of an RG, making it good for visual and structural purposes.
@@mj2005gundam I never built RGs before so I wouldn't know 😅
F for Lunamaria. May your sacrifice never be forgotten.
Respect for her to take the fall
Wow, rg gundam ver2.0 build and inner frame is just amazing of mechanical design. Switch rg kit get the ver 2.0 Treatment hope is sinanju or zeta both their kit are notorious fragile. Are you gonna do a complete video just like the rg freedom
We can only hope that Bandai would make 2.0s of the most problematic releases in the past. That being said, it would unnecessarily take up some precious RG slots. As for a Cheese vs Cheese, I'll have a think about it in a bit, as I wanna take a break from recording after I get my essays done, heavily hinging on when the Lighting Buster is slated for release
if you look closely on the head vulcan, it's a bit sunken compared to the cgi counterpart.
And I thought it was a me issue
5:38 time for a JJK inspired build.
Jujutsu Kaisen? What's the reference with the separated torso and legs?
@@mj2005gundam the honoured 1/2
@@mj2005gundam spoiler
gojo split in half
Yes....
...
.
Gonna spoil the thing below.
Gojo dies after being bisected by Sukuna.
I love how THICC it is, it looks like the Perfect Gundam from Thunderbolt.
Glad you like the chunky looks
I kind of wish they gave some of that waist Articulation to the force impulse spec 2 like it can move side to side. I know the suit can bend forward but not back but I guess that's how the core splendor was design compare to the RX-78-2 unit.
Well, lessons learned from the RG Impulse mold and implemented into this guy
@@mj2005gundam yea but I wish we can see this level of detail in the impulse.
Now I want to see a RG GM or 2.0 Zaku
Fingers crossed
no chest or wrist vulcans like the hg orgin version i kinda loved those features 😢
This is the vanilla RX-78-2, not the RX-78-02.
I got this kit and planing to paint it. One thing I don't like is too many holes showing innerframe it makes the kit looks to have black spot all over it.
I'm not sure what to do with it between paint it the same color as armor or use silver to paint those spot.
Part of those were covered up by metallic silver stickers in the final build, so I guess that's a viable approach to go, as unifying those details with the armor might look a bit weird with the different levels between them
@@mj2005gundam Oh! Thank you. I'll use my silver paint for those black spot then. I need to finish painting my RG Tallgeese before unbox Gramp 2.0
I want the real Granddaddy
I mean the real Granddaddy
This kit: Perfection.
That is if the looks suit your fancy. It is perfect everywhere else
Hello! What coat are you using? I m new to this hobby and I love your work
I use Mr Super Clear matte spray for the topcoat. Hope it helps
@@mj2005gundam thank soo much
I dont think enough people are talking about this crazy thing using the STANDARD BACKPACK. I genuinely never wpild have seen it coming.
I mean, I don't see why it's a big deal. The Gundam always uses the traditional backpack, and the kit had to respect the source material
@@mj2005gundam Im saying it's great, I genuinely hope more rg gundams do it.
I'm not the biggest fan of the new head design, but everything else about the kit is just👌
You gotta love the engineering they've put into this kit
It's good but I feel it's more on the High Grade side than the Real Grade side. It's solid, but I wouldn't call it an RG anymore. A highly detailed HG with inner frame and beautiful gimmicks. I might get one
Well, goes to prove my point further. The only thing this kit can be docked on is subjective tastes
I went to the Gundam base Thailand, and it was sold out in a day. They told me that the restock was gonna be on Saturday, and I was leaving on Monday 😭💀
Missed it by a little bit, sorry about that
That was fast. Saqra didn't even update me with postage number yet.
I was lucky to get my HLJ order in. Saqra takes quite a long time to get orders processed and shipped, that's like the only downside
@@mj2005gundam It depends tbh. Was pretty random before but mostly got the kits following week after release. Narrative Ver.Ka was different story as I didn't got tracking details before I got parcel xD
Part of me wishes we had 5 more filler kits just so the 45th anniversary kit could be RG #45
If only they weren't P-Bandai, we might have gotten or shot past that
I bet some madlads would go on installing HG RX78 Origin's backpack with the shoulder cannon 😂🤣
Good luck dealing with the detail difference
Good one, but so much like PGU in RG. I'll go for something like MG 2.0 in no time (great frame, simple outer armor)
Again, it's just visual preferences that this kit is limited by. You're completely entitled to having your preferred iteration of the Granddaddy
Question: Can I get this as my first RG or any recommendations for a first RG?
As far as I know, I think this shouldn't be a first rg kit cause it looks pretty complicated but i havent built it yet so idk. I think you should look into rg kits that came out after 2017 since I think any kits after that year are mostly good and don't heavily rely on the ms joint system.
I suggest you go first with bigger RG like Sazabi, Zeong, Nu, and Hinu.... Newer RG isnt that hard to build but it really needs your full attention...
No. This kit is way too intricate as an entry-level RG. I'd suggest getting something like any RG Impulse, RG Wing, or RG Tallgeese to start, then work your way up to kits like the RG Sazabi and RG Hi-Nu before tackling this one.
@@mj2005gundam ah I see. Thank you.
I think next year Bandai will release the RG Zaku 2.0 and or the first RG GM.
Let's see what happens
RG 2.0 may look subjective thanks to its highly mechanical/overdetailed look, but at last, Bandai made an articulated core fighter, which was hard to achieve back then.
It's mechanically impressive, and that's all the grounds for deserved praise
It’s kinda a bummer how there’s not pilot figure…
Slight bummer, but they've been phased out since the RG Zeong
What's next? ZZ? Wing Zero? Ex-S?
ZZ would be the next frontier if you ask me
RG RX 78-2 2.0 🤝 MG Narrative C-Type: having a soild core fighter without any issue.
(unless you bend the torso back wrong). Also, the RG Impulse would like to speak.
Looks amazing, I just hope the joints don't break like my original RX's di :c
If you assemble everything properly, it shouldn't break at all. My tip is to not force the joints during assembly. If you cannot bend them during assembly, that means they're not aligned correctly. Just take your time during the build, and enjoy the results
Question, How hard is it to build on a scale of 1 to 10? I already build MGEX Unicorn Gundam and MGEX Strike Freedom. Is this harder than the MGEX?
If you have that experience, I'd pin the difficulty to a 5 or 6. I'd definitely recommend being awake and lucid while building it, but you shouldn't have much trouble if you have built MGs before that
I pray we will get GP03 Stamen with this kind of frame
We can only pray that it would be made in the first place
107 toys had already announced
option parts set for (RG RX-78-2 ver2.0) rx-78-7,rx-78-6,rx-78-5,rx-78-4,
rx-78-1
And oh boy am I going to make a bunch of bad financial decisions.
If they turn out well, I might review those too. No promises though, as that means getting 5 more of this kit
I wish this and the PG Unleashed didn’t have the core fighter gimmick.
Why so? If anything I wished that there'd be a dummy so as to display the Gundam and fighter together
GASSED!!!
Glad you're excited. Yet another UK slang I need to learn
New to Gundam and model kits. How much does this one costs?
3500 yen at base. Of course it'll depend on where you are from that determines the additional charges
Bandai sure has delivered on this one. They really learned a lot from the Real Grade Nu Gundam. ❤
But you know what's the downside of this Gunpla kit? The add-ons are P-BANDAI! GRRRR! 😂
To be fair, no version of the Granddaddies of recent (minus the EG Full Package) has all the weapons included. Not the MG 3.0, not the PGU, and the HGUC Revive's hammer and javelin are locked behind magazine expansion sets. Looking at it from that angle, I think it's completely fair that the extra weapons are DLC.
I got this kit but I will never have it built 100% built as I plan to do it in it's iconic pose with it's missing arm and head.
You'll need a tall display for that if you also have the RG Zeong effects to go with it
So in short the new RG's coming out are master grades but shrunk and have much more details than a regular MG??
Essentially like building mini MGs yes
In your opinion is this kit on par or better than the rg hi nu gundam?
It's on par with the Hi-Nu in terms of engineering, but better in terms of being a marvel due to it being on par despite being half the size
I feel this is like a mini PG Unleashed
It basically is. All that's missing is the stages of inner frame assembly
do you think this is better than the Master grade 3.0? mine is just a floppy mess rn
No authority, as I never had the MG 3.0. That being said, if you don't mind the robust silhouette, this is arguably better than any of the RGs or scare number of 1/100 kits I've built, with only the FM Raider coming close
I am just waiting on HobbyLink Japan to ship me this guy. I bought a 2nd one to paint.
Ooh, G-3? That being said, hope your order comes soon
@@mj2005gundam Yeah. I had to wait months for my God Phoenix from HobbySearch. I think that was due to Action Toys not being expedient than HobbySearch.
I'd like to get my hands on a 1/144 Grandpa, but too bad the RG 2.0's weapon set is P-Bandai. I'll pick the HG Origins version instead.
Fair enough
I would love to build this but school is a pain in the ass
Mate, I get it. I built and reviewed this while I had an assignment breathing down my neck.
I hope they make RG barbatos in the future. Or RG OO gundams. 😢
We can only dream of that at this point
If I were to get an RG, this will be my first one XD
In that case, good freaking luck with it. Unless you've built MGs and PGs in the past, this will pose a noticeable challenge
Phenomenal rg. But i hate rx 782 design. Will wait for rg sinanju 2.0 or rg zaku 2.0
That's a bit visceral, but fair enough
I hope they will remake Sinanju and Zeta
Farfetched, but not impossible in the next century or so
Its going to be a standalone like the mg 3.0
Though it is an indication as to what the RG line might be like from here
this better than the first one
By a country mile
The inner frame looks great but that chibi head style makes it a hard pass for me
Understandable, the looks don't really satisfy everyone
GILA !!! PGU versi mini
Basically what it is
They should have save this kit to be RG#45 for the 45th anniversary.
That being said, there aren't 5 more filler releases in retail to make it in time.
Where's the HG Gyan Strom review?
Just let life take its course, please. I have a lot on my plate right now, and I wanna take a break after I get the last of my essays done. Please be patient with me
@@mj2005gundam Lmao, take it easy fam 😂🤣
should I get as my second real grade?
I mean, you can try if you have experience backing you up

Dude, I just got lucky, and worked diligently. No competition necessary here
@@mj2005gundam nah im just messing around dw about it
Where can i buy this?
Depends on where you're from. Your local stores, online stores, you can get them anywhere so long as it's available. Just gotta wait a few months if you're not from/near Japan or America
